America’s strong support for Israel and its actions in Gaza are having a ripple effect on the US Presidential race. A new poll done by NBC News shows that President Joe Biden’s approval rating has declined to the lowest level of his presidency at just 40 per cent.

00:10This is a question that's increasingly being asked, with new polls showing him trailing
00:14in a head-to-head contest with Donald Trump and, importantly, showing that a majority

00:21Worryingly for Mr Biden, 70 per cent of those polled between the ages of 18 and 34 amongst
00:28Democratic voters do not approve of his stand on Israel and Palestine.
00:32This is important because Arab Americans and Muslim Americans are an important voter group
00:39in swing states like Michigan, for example.
00:41They have a large number who actually vote in these states, and that could make a difference
00:47if there is a neck-to-neck fight next year in November.
00:51So this is something that Mr Biden's team will have to calibrate, but it's a tough choice
00:55because Jewish Americans are, of course, a very strong voter base as well.
00:59They are important in other swing states and this could be the determining factor in 2024.
