00:00With just a few weeks until Australians are set to head to the polls, things aren't looking good
00:03for the federal government. News poll shows the coalition is ahead 51-49 in the two-part preferred,
00:09while YouGo projects the opposition to win 73 seats at the upcoming election,
00:13putting Peter Dutton in poll position to become prime minister.
00:17Some say you have to take these results with a level of caution because the contest is so close.
00:21At the 2019 election, for example, many polls showed Labor was ahead by a few percentage points,
00:26but this fell within the margin of error and the coalition eventually won government.
00:30It also takes a lot to boot a first-term government, and one has not been voted out
00:34in almost 100 years. However, cost of living concerns, a global turn against incumbent
00:38politicians and Labor's relatively small seat margin could put Anthony Albanese's
00:43administration at greater risk.
