We asked: What do you think would improve Sheffield City Centre?
Transcript
00:00To be honest, if they just worked out what they wanted in terms of all the
00:05construction work and got it done instead of all these little bits and
00:09pieces constantly being done.
00:13More housing, definitely more housing. I think Debenhams should be an apartment,
00:19that they should have some green space at bottom, near where Office World were
00:23and places like that. Definitely needs more green space and more residential
00:27parts of Sheffield in the town centre.
00:31Generally just more money invested in it to smarten it up.
00:35Parts of it are just really tatty and run down.
00:39I mean, the approach on the train from down south to Chesterfield up to here is just awful.
00:48Here's been regenerated, but at the other end of town now,
00:52a lot of markets come from down there. It's just a ghost town.
00:57Good balance, but what I'm very impressed with, and I think is award-winning,
01:03are the patients and the workmen that are working on them.
01:06Is that because they've been polite or because they're doing a good job?
01:09They've been polite and they've been professional.
01:14Could you tell me what you think the conclusion of the city centre will be?
01:20I think that's a very difficult decision. I'm glad I'm not the person who has to make it.
01:24It would be nice if we had more of the big shops back.
01:28It would be nice if it had more of the atmosphere that it had before Covid.
01:32Covid was a big downer and unfortunately I don't think we've been able to quite reorganise
01:40and get back to what it was before, which makes it less inviting for people to visit and to shop,
01:46which is a great shame. The loss of Coles, which is John Lewis, was also a big blow.
01:52If it were possible to do something about that, that would be good.
01:56It's a difficult decision to make.
01:59Let all these young ones not go on street corners and gang up and keep knives and security.
