What do you think of the new Town Hall Square in Sheffield city centre
Transcript
00:00It's a bit confusing at the moment. I haven't seen the plans for what it's
00:05going to look like at the end but it could very well look very nice because
00:09it's a bit, a councillor faced with a very difficult question when it
00:17comes to dealing with town centres because town centres need people to come
00:23and visit them to buy and sell services and the trouble is that
00:30some of this stuff like you see on Pinsent Street here is often perceived as
00:35being anti-car. People won't be persuaded out of their cars. They will go
00:41elsewhere to the out-of-town shopping centres or buy online. I think online has been a
00:48bit overrated but I remember this area here with the Goodweird
00:55Fountain in the middle. There have been crowds coming out of all four, one, two,
01:00three, four, five, six roads that meet at this point so it's a little bit, you know,
01:08the council have got to weigh that up. Q. What do you think of it?
01:14I'm going to be absolutely on the fence on this. Sorry.
01:24The first thing that comes to mind is something like the square at the end of the Ramblas.
01:28Q. Where's that? In Barcelona. So yeah, I mean if there's any way of approaching
01:33something like that it would be super cool. Q. What's so good about it? I think what's nice is
01:39it's hot weather, people can kind of gather there and just relax and chill out and that kind of thing.
01:45Closed off, yeah. Q. Why? Why? Well, it's better for people walking, isn't it. You don't have to look at your buses and all.
01:55It means it's a lot more comfortable to walk, more peaceful.
01:59Q. What do you think the council should use that square for? What would you like to see?
02:04Q. Because it's a big old area they've created. I don't know, really.
02:10They could do a cleaning job and all, but I'm not going to.
