Some snow showers are going on to the east of the Great Lakes, but across the Northeast, it's going to be a cold Saturday morning before warmth arrives to start the new week.
Transcript
00:00That blast of wintry weather continues in the Northeast.
00:02We're tracking gusty winds, chilly air,
00:04and that is tonight's top story with lake effect snow
00:06and flurries that have been losing steam
00:08throughout the day, but they're not done yet.
00:10Others closer to I-95 have seen a little bit of sunshine.
00:13Meanwhile, record low temperatures
00:15have impacted Texas and other South Central states,
00:17but a storm system passing through
00:19will bring cold rain and some ice
00:21along parts of East Texas and the Gulf Coast.
00:24This weekend, we're also tracking a milder weekend ahead,
00:27though, across the country.
00:29Let's start you off with a look in Buffalo, New York.
00:31Definitely a snowy view here.
00:34And, you know, earlier we watched a car drive off.
00:37There's now a lot more cars
00:38that have joined on the road, Jeff.
00:41Yeah, I think I'm a bad example sometimes.
00:44I talk about some really dumb stuff here sometimes,
00:46and here we are two hours later, you're bringing it back up.
00:48So we have a few more cars in the park.
00:49This is highly exciting, 21 degrees in Buffalo,
00:53and there's somebody walking around out there.
00:57But overall, we're dealing with some snow showers.
00:59There's some light to moderate snow
01:00across the interior northeast.
01:02And one thing I want you to be aware of,
01:05if you're not near a radar site,
01:06and if you're, say, in Erie, PA,
01:09you're kind of between the Cleveland radar site
01:11in Buffalo and State College in Pittsburgh,
01:13there's still snow out there.
01:14It's just being overshot by the radar pulses.
01:17You can see clearly the area around Syracuse radar site
01:21there grabbing the low-level stuff,
01:23but it's overshooting the snow that's falling
01:25equally as significantly over the Finger Lakes right now.
01:28So just keep that in mind.
01:29Now, the area near I-95, here we have too much downsloping,
01:33and we are not seeing any snow out there right now.
01:36As we take a look at the current temps,
01:38I don't think we're gonna see any more snow near I-95,
01:41at least for the weekend.
01:42Current readings down to the upper teens in Burlington,
01:4519 degrees there.
01:46Meanwhile, to the south, we're at 35 into Washington, DC,
01:50and it's gonna be a cold start to the day this Saturday.
01:53In the deep blue here, most of the northeast
01:54will have accuweather real field temperatures
01:56in the single digits.
01:57Farther south, accuweather real field temperatures
02:00will be in the teens in Baltimore, DC,
02:02all the way down to Virginia Beach,
02:03even Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
02:06All of Kentucky, accuweather real field temperatures
02:08into the teens early in the morning.
02:10And we'll even be dealing with sub-zero accuweather
02:13real fields up into northern parts of New England.
02:16So Saturday's gonna be a cold day.
02:17We'll have some light snow east of Lake Ontario.
02:19That really shrinks down to flurries in that area
02:22near Watertown on Sunday.
02:24Temperatures hedging back up to near average,
02:26and you'll notice a lack of snow out there in most areas.
02:29A couple of flurries east of Lake Ontario.
02:31There will be a disturbance that blitzes through
02:32early in the day Sunday.
02:34We'll be painting some additional snow
02:36over the mountains north of Interstate 90.
02:38But then into Monday, this next system will bring
02:40a little snow to northern Michigan
02:42and also in far northern parts of New England,
02:44but rain, snow mix for New York State
02:45and light rain showers into other areas.
02:48And you can see these temperatures
02:49are gonna be way up, 49 in Pittsburgh, 42 in Buffalo,
02:52so I don't even expect an accumulation there.
02:55But there may be some accumulations up near Jay Peak,
02:57near Burlington.
