Japan’s defense minister is traveling to the Philippines to strengthen security ties as concerns grow over China’s increasing military presence in the region. Robert Ward, Director of Geo-economics and Strategy at the International Institute of Strategic Studies, says this marks the first such meeting primarily driven by fears of a potential conflict near Taiwan.
