00:00How about this, though?
00:01We just had a caller call in and say, hey, I'm still not sold on the final five.
00:05In other words, talking about the final five minutes of games.
00:08I don't want to focus only on the final five of the game.
00:11I want to focus on a few different five-minute stretches throughout the game.
00:15If I've got it right, it's usually pretty early in the second quarter.
00:19There's five minutes there.
00:21And then there's a five-minute period kind of toward the end of the third quarter and
00:27into the beginning of the fourth quarter.
00:29Those are the five-minute stretches that I want to talk about.
00:32They're called the non-staff minutes, and they haven't looked like this since Kevin
00:35Durant played with the Golden State Warriors.
00:38Here's what Steve Kerr said about that after the game yesterday afternoon.
00:41Yeah, it just feels, the game feels easier right now for us.
00:46Every play is not as crucial when there's a consistency of the game.
00:52You can make a mistake and keep playing and not feel like, oh my God, we've got to flip
00:58things right now.
00:59So I just think the consistency of what we're seeing defensively is setting the tone, points
01:06off turnovers.
01:07Again, tonight was a big disparity in the game.
01:11And that group with Draymond, Jimmy, BP, when Steph's off the floor, their defensive rating
01:19is just off the charts.
01:21And so we're setting a great tone.
01:22And then Jimmy, you know, Jimmy just, the game makes sense when he's out there.
01:25He gets to the line.
01:26He makes simple plays.
01:28He keeps the game under control for us.
01:31And so you can feel the difference for sure.
01:33Does anybody know what net rating is?
01:36This is like when you take your defensive rating and your offensive rating and you put
01:40it in a big fishbowl together and you shake it up and it kind of spits out like how you
01:44are as an all-around basketball team.
01:47Golden State Warriors, since Jimmy Butler arrived, net rating, fifth, fifth in the entire
01:52NBA.
01:53They were 16th before his arrival.
01:55Now they're fifth, just in this period of time.
01:58In this six games, they are, by metrics, if you want to use this one, they're essentially
02:04like a top five team in the NBA.
02:07The way that they're, and I know that's easy to like, okay, who'd they play?
02:11What's on the schedule?
02:12All of that stuff.
02:13Exactly, yeah.
02:14So it's not a perfect metric, but that's what they're doing right now.
02:18That's what they're putting out there.
02:20And if you look at the non-Steph minutes just in yesterday's game, where Steph goes out
02:26with 3.41 to go, Warriors are up nine in control.
02:30You got Jimmy and Pods and Buddy and Kavon and Guy.
02:35That was your five and you went on to end the quarter up 15.
02:39So you went from up nine to up 15 in the three and a half non-Steph minutes, as we like to
02:45call them, which normally, as you were mentioning before, those would be nail biters.
02:50And you had Moses who played a little bit in the first quarter and he goes out and Kavon
02:54played Buddy.
02:55And you're starting to see the rotation where Butler goes out early so he can get two or
03:00three minutes and then he comes back in for Steph.
03:03So that's the non-Steph minutes where Jimmy comes back in and now he's the guy who can
03:09kind of lead that second unit.
03:10And I can't help but think when Kaminga comes back that I think that Kaminga is going to
03:15line up with Jimmy Butler in those minutes where maybe Moses plays with Steph at the
03:20four and then when it's going to be Jimmy Butler without Steph, that's when you might
03:25have Kaminga out there.
03:27Maybe.
03:28I'm super curious to see what that looks like and I think we're still probably at least
03:32a couple games away.
03:33We'll ask Steve, then he won't tell us and then we'll speculate.
03:36That's probably how it'll work.
03:38But actually, Anthony Slater will be on with us in 10 minutes and he might have a better
03:42take on when Kaminga is going to be back.
03:44Some have speculated it might be Thursday in Orlando, maybe it'll be this weekend.
03:49How they use him, how quickly they use him, how quickly he gets to 25 minutes, I think
03:54is up to him.
03:56I don't think that's been determined yet and we'll ask Anthony that.
03:59But I would imagine that that gets determined based on how quickly he's able to A, get up
04:04to speed and B, fit in.
04:06Fit into the basketball they're playing because it is a little bit of a different style.
04:10It is.
04:11I do think a lot of it will fall on the shoulders of Rick Celebrini who is the medical and the
04:16fitness and the team medical guy.
04:20So he'll make the determination on what the ramp up is and I can't help but think about
04:25how long it's been since Kaminga has played.
04:27By the time he gets on the floor, it'll almost be two months.
04:29Crazy.
04:30It's a long, long time.
04:32So I do think that it is prudent to have a slow ramp up, especially when things are going
04:37great.
04:38You can say to Jonathan, we're going to be patient with you.
04:41We're going to ease you back into it slowly.
04:44And part of that is, and you don't say it to Jonathan, but it's like, look, we're playing
04:49awesome without you.
04:50We've won five of six.
04:52We don't want to totally upset or upturn the apple cart just yet.
04:56So we're going to go ahead and ease you back in and we're going to make sure we take care
05:00of you.
05:01I'm sure they will.
05:02Yeah.
05:03But, I mean, if you had lost five of six, you might be a little bit more eager to rush
05:06him back.
05:07That's my point.
05:08Maybe.
05:09Maybe.
05:10Yeah.
05:11Dude, this is one hell of an ankle sprain.
05:12Good Lord.
05:13What the hell was this injury?
05:15Classic grade two.
05:16Classic?
05:17Yeah.
05:18I don't know any ankle sprains that are classically two months.
05:20Well.
05:21That's a long time for an ankle sprain.
05:23Yeah.
05:24Not really.
05:25I mean, when you look at it, and we can get Doc Pandy on again, and he's always available.
05:29I'm sure he's going to text us right now.
05:31He's out there listening.
05:32Hi, Doc.
05:33And you have, well, they said three weeks before we even will reevaluate and you wait
05:37from there.
05:38And I think it's been seven weeks.
05:41I'll try to get the exact timeframe.
05:43Yeah.
05:44You got hurt on January 4th.
05:46And here we are on the 24th.
05:47So that's, that would be 51 days.
05:50So we're at seven weeks and three days right now.
05:53Seven weeks and two days.
05:55Normally I would say it's a six to eight week thing.
05:58So I do think that he's right on schedule for the timeline of a grade two.
06:02And also this is his first ankle sprain.
06:06And like Steph Curry, he probably sprained his ankle 20 minutes ago and he's like, ah,
06:11there goes that again.
06:12Yup.
06:13Yup.
06:14Sprained my ankle.
06:15Yeah.
06:16But this is like, I don't know, man, this, you know, the way they talked about it the
06:18second that it happened where, and even now Steve was on with us on Thursdays, like JK
06:23is a ways away still, you know, we're speculating he's going to be back Thursday or this weekend,
06:28but maybe it won't be.
06:29Um, Fozzie in the East Bay on Willard and Dibs.
06:33Hey Fozzie, what's up?
06:34What's up boys?
06:35Thanks for taking my call.
06:36Yeah, man.
06:37Uh, yeah, look, uh, I'm okay.
06:40I'm okay with, um, Jimmy Butler.
06:43I'm not taking anything back with that.
06:45Every time he touches the ball in the post, I feel like it's a bucket, whether he's getting
06:48to the line or he's just going up, getting a bucket, but I will redo my pod take earlier
06:54this year.
06:55Uh, I was ready to trade him for a bag of chips, especially when, uh, we were hearing
07:00that he was untouchable with the Lord marketing, uh, talks, but yeah, this guy has been balling
07:05out ever since he came back from injury.
07:08And, uh, he's turning into a solid piece for us and, uh, that, uh, floater, man, it's
07:12looking like a signature move for him.
07:15And also just looking ahead, next four or six games, I really feel like the Warriors
07:19can, can go at least five in one or six to no even, but a team's looking real good.
07:27Love Jimmy on the team.
07:28Cheers boys.
07:29Fozzie.
07:30Thanks.
07:31Fozzie.
07:32Yeah.
07:33I like if we do measure greatness and we often do, we do this to Brock Purdy, right?
07:37You're supposed to elevate everybody around you.
07:39If, if, if that's how we're going to measure it, then Jimmy is off to one hell of a start.
07:44Um, I still don't know if we're fully confident that this isn't just like coincidence or who
07:49knows what the vibes is that what's doing it.
07:53I don't know.
07:54I don't know.
07:55But everybody on the team suddenly looks good.
07:58Everybody.
07:59I don't see like who's out there that has your ire right now.
08:05Even Buddy Heald shut everybody up over the weekend.
08:09Am I right?
08:10Well, in Sacramento, Sacramento, and then yesterday it came out with a new hairdo and
08:16now everybody loves him again.
08:17Well, you love him cause you're winning and you love him because he's your ninth man.
08:22Maybe your 10th man.
08:23And last night's a good example where not last night, it was yesterday afternoon and
08:27he played what 14 minutes and he took four shots in his time on the floor.
08:33And one of them went in!
08:35It went through the hoop?
08:36Yeah!
08:37All the way through?
08:38Yeah!
08:39That's crazy.
08:40They would have only won by 21 if it wasn't for Buddy.
08:43Yeah, so I do think that people are loving on Buddy for, a big reason is because Buddy's
08:49now your ninth or 10th man.
08:51And so yeah, Buddy, get in there, jack up a few.
08:55If they go in, you get more time and if they don't, it's okay because we don't really need
08:59you like we needed you back in November.
09:01Did you know that Buddy Heald played 18 minutes and was a plus 19?
09:04I saw that.
09:05Yeah, he's a plus 19.
09:08Plus minus, man.
09:09He's a heady player, man.
09:10Yeah.
09:11Gotta look out for that guy.
09:12I love plus minus.
09:13It's so stupid.
09:14Pods is averaging 15 a game since Jimmy's come in six games.
09:19And you want to talk about plus minus, he was a plus 30 yesterday and he's been a plus
09:24in every game.
09:25And he had 13 rebounds.
09:28Yeah.
09:29Brandon Pajemski had 13 rebounds.
09:33Flash out to the Court of Gold documentary on Netflix when Steve Kerr walks up to Anthony
09:38Edwards and goes, hey, when are you going to take this unbelievable talent and go get
09:43a rebound?
09:45Brandon Pajemski, 13 boards.
09:49Dude, power forwards are jealous of that number.
09:53That's a whole week for Andrew Wiggins.
09:56That's crazy.
09:58That's crazy.
10:01And he had eight.
10:02Those are two top rebounders in the game yesterday.
10:05It's attitude and effort rebounding.
