A 44-year-old former bank officer claimed trial at the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh, Melaka on Tuesday (Feb 25) to 26 counts of charges for soliciting bribes amounting to RM153,622.47 between 2018 and 2023.

00:00A former bank officer has pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court in Ayakero
00:06to 26 charges of soliciting bribes totaling more than RM153,600 between 2018 and 2023.
00:1644-year-old Mohamed Rais Mohamed Ramli entered his plea before Judge Elisabeth Payawan on Tuesday.
00:24He is accused of soliciting bribes from a legal firm as an inducement to facilitate
00:29case referrals for housing loan transactions with Malaysia Building Society Berhad Bank,
00:35allegedly through bank executives under his supervision.
00:39The offences were allegedly committed at a restaurant on Jalan PM 5, Plaza Makota,
00:45Melaka between January 2018 and December 2023.
00:50The charges were brought under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act,
00:54which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment
00:57and a fine of either five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
01:03The court set bail at RM37,000 with one surety and imposed additional conditions.
01:10The case is scheduled for mention on April 9.
