00:00Malaysiakini journalist B. Nanta Kumar pleaded not guilty in the Shah Alam Sessions Court
00:06on Friday to a charge of receiving a bribe from a Pakistani national last month.
00:12The 42-year-old entered his plea before Judge Datuk Muhammad Nasir Nordin.
00:18He was charged under Section 16A subsection A of the MACC Act 2009 for allegedly accepting
00:24money in exchange for removing and not publishing articles related to a foreign worker syndicate
00:30on the Malaysiakini website.
00:32The alleged offence took place at a hotel around 11.45pm on February 28.
00:39If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of no less than five times the
00:44amount of the bribe.
00:46Judge Muhammad Nasir granted bail at 10,000 ringgit with one surety and ordered Nanta
00:52Kumar to report to the nearest MACC office once a month until the case is resolved.
00:59Case mention was fixed on April 23.
