00:00An elderly man was fined RM30,000 by the Sepang Sessions Court today
00:05for uploading an offensive post on social media about the Yang di-Pertuan Agong
00:09and the Conference of Rulers on Facebook.
00:12Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman meted out the fine in the fault of six months in jail on Johari Ismail, 67,
00:19who pleaded guilty to the charge.
00:21Johari was charged with knowingly using Facebook to initiate the transmission of offensive communication
00:27with the intention of annoying others.
00:29The link was seen at the office of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission
00:34at Tower 1 Jalan Impact Cyberjaya at 12.59pm on February 9.
00:39The charge was framed under Section 233 Sub 1A of the MCMC Act 1889,
00:45punishable under Section 233 Sub 3 of the same law,
00:49which provides for a fine of not more than RM50,000,
00:52imprisonment of not more than one year or both,
00:55and a further RM1,000 fine for each day the offence continues.
00:59The prosecution was handled by MCMC Deputy Public Prosecutor Fatin Hadni Khairuddin,
01:05while Johari, who has four children, was unrepresented.
