00:29Analysts were left scrambling for answers and even Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki was caught completely off-guard by this trade

00:42This trade defied all logic

00:45I mean Luka was fresh off a historic season putting up numbers that even surpassed LeBron James's best MVP years

00:53In two decades of following the NBA, I've never seen a trade this outrageous, this controversial, or this downright scandalous

01:04And let's be real, neither has anyone else

01:08Is this fake? It's fake. Did he get hacked?

01:11There's zero chance and everyone's freaking out about it

01:15But honestly, how funny would that be?

01:19After the initial chaos, the dust settled. It was official, Luka Doncic was a Laker

01:50Calling him out of shape, questioning his work ethic, and attacking his character

01:55They talked about he was in love with the hookah, calling him Hookah Doncic

03:23And honestly, fans wouldn't have even cared, because in most cases, they'd be right

03:30But instead, the player they chose to drag through the mud

03:34The one they called fat, the one they accused of bad work ethic

03:38Was the same guy who just averaged 34-9-9

03:42Led his team to the NBA Finals

03:44And gave everything to that franchise

03:56A stat line like that isn't just elite, it's historic

04:00It's the NBA version of Connor McDavid torching defenses

04:04Patrick Mahomes carving up the secondary

04:06Or Shohei Otani dominating as both an ace pitcher and a power hitter

04:11Yet, instead of celebrating Luka's greatness, the Mavericks sent him packing

04:16Then dragged his name through the mud

04:19I mean, the new Mavericks owner, Patrick Dumont, publicly questioned Luka's work ethic

04:25Basically saying he doesn't work hard enough to deserve a spot on the team

04:31But what I had a hard time with was him trying to kick Luka on the way out

04:36Disrespecting him every step of the way

04:40But the smear campaign wasn't over yet

04:44In a recent article from The Athletic, sources within the Mavericks organization

04:48Likely Patrick Dumont and Nico Harrison

04:51Allegedly called Luka lazy, ripped into his weight issues

04:55And even took shots at his social habits, like beer and hookah

05:00And if that wasn't enough, they flat out predicted his downfall within the next five years

05:06Word for word

05:09They came out and they just, you know, basically just said

05:12Hey look, this guy here is an alcoholic

05:16Instead of showing gratitude for making the Mavericks relevant over the past half decade

05:21Logging more minutes than anyone in the league last season

05:24And leading them to the 2024 NBA Finals

05:27They dropped this hit piece?

05:31This isn't just low, it's a full on disgrace

05:36And people across the league, including NBA media, are calling them out for it

05:41Rachel Nichols recently took to X and summed it up perfectly

05:46I don't get why the Mavs are sharing this stuff

05:49All this talk is going to make Dallas look even worse, say less

05:54And when Markeith Morris was asked about Luka's conditioning, he had this to say

05:59I hear stuff about him not being in shape

06:02But if you can go on an NBA game and get 30, 15, and 10 like it's nothing

06:17Another shameless smear campaign the Mavericks pulled off against Luka

06:21Was when they got a reporter to go on ESPN and claim that his weight had ballooned to 270 pounds

06:29At this point in time he is rumored to be the 7th heaviest NBA player in the league

06:35As a diehard NBA fan who tracks every random stat imaginable

06:39The moment I heard 270 pounds, I thought, wait, seriously?

06:46So let's put that number into perspective

06:49This is a list of the heaviest NBA players according to 2K

06:54Now, 2K isn't gospel, but it's usually right in the ballpark, so let's roll with it

07:01At the top you've got Zach Eaddy at 305 pounds

07:04Yousef Nurkic at 290

07:07And right behind them at number 3, Nikola Jokic listed at 284

07:12So, we're supposed to believe 6'7 Luka is only 14 pounds lighter than a 7'0 Jokic?

07:20Yeah, okay

07:25Come on, if they're gonna make something up, at least make it somewhat believable

07:29When I looked at this press conference, he didn't look 270 to me

07:33I know what 270 looked like, 270 looked like that right there

07:36It don't look like that

07:40Yeah, no one was buying that 270 pound nonsense

07:45I mean, the moment he landed in LA, he looked like his usual 230-240 pound frame

07:50Nothing close to 270

07:53Even the Lakers official website has him listed at 230

07:58And even Anthony Edwards didn't hold back, calling it out right away

08:03He didn't look 270 to me

08:05And the fans? Yeah, they weren't buying it either

08:09If he is 270, Zion was 575 last offseason

08:14If that's fat, then I don't know what to call real fat people

08:22The math never added up, and neither did the story

08:47There is highlights from when Luka Dacic was still on the team

08:52And you guys won't believe this, they censored him

08:56They recently dropped a hype video, and if you watch closely

08:59You'll notice certain players blacked out with a Dallas Mavericks logo covering them

09:05Yeah, they actually tried to edit out Luka, basically erasing him from the team's history

09:13This is beyond embarrassing

09:16So petty, so cringe

09:18Like, what are you even doing?

09:20There's not other pictures, videos that you could get?

09:23You have to censor him out?

09:27The Mavericks did try to explain this away

09:29Possibly by paying a former employee to claim it was just standard procedure

09:35But here's the thing

09:41So if this was really standard procedure, why was Maxi still there?

09:46The inconsistencies only made fans more frustrated

09:49And when they caught wind of this, their reaction was clear

10:18And whatever credibility they had left

10:32If the Mavericks were truly concerned about Luka's weight

10:34His so-called laziness

10:36Or his work ethic

10:38Why didn't they just sit down and have an honest heart-to-heart conversation with him?

10:43Niko didn't have to do it

10:44Patrick Dumont didn't have to do it

10:46But did they forget they still have Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki on staff as a part-time advisor?

10:53They easily could have had Dirk sit down with Luka

10:56Lay it all out

10:57And tell him straight up

10:58Look, a Max contract isn't coming unless you make some changes

11:04This could have been handled quietly, professionally, in the offseason

11:07But they didn't

11:09Instead, Luka was completely blindsided

11:13And even after trading him

11:15Why are they still going out of their way to slander his name?

11:19The NBA claims to care about its players, its communities, its values

11:24So why is a team actively smearing a superstar

11:55Remember when Nico Harrison claimed that the Luka trade was strictly between him and Rob Planka?

12:01Well, now his story has completely changed

12:05Reportedly, Nico Harrison reached out to Minnesota to propose a trade involving Luka for Anthony Edwards

12:11But was rejected

12:14So, was this just another flat out lie from Nico and the Mavericks organization?

12:19Honestly, at this point, does it even matter?

12:22Because we all know the truth

12:24This trade was a scam

12:54And fans literally call him made of glass

12:58You don't trade a 25-year-old MVP candidate in his prime for a 32-year-old made of glass?

13:06Where exactly do the Mavericks think Davis will be in five years?
