00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World, my name's Theo Hewson-Betts and this is our Manchester Weekend Roundup,
00:05the video where I talk you through some of the biggest stories and events that took place in Manchester over the weekend.
00:10We're going to start with some of the stories from the Manchester World website, so let's jump into it.
00:14Firstly, a plot of land in Werneth, which was once home to the Hertford Mill, is set to be turned into a new neighbourhood for Oldham.
00:20Plans would see the 35 hectares of space used to build more than 90 new homes and apartment blocks.
00:25The mill had stood there for a long, long time, but the Grade 3 listed space became a danger since a fire ravaged the building back in 2014.
00:33The teenager fell to his death there a year later and the building was demolished in 2023.
00:38This is a positive step forward for the area, with Labour's ambitious housing target plan seemingly prompting a real push from local leaders to build homes and accommodations.
00:46More plans will come out over the next few years, but it does seem to be a sensible and popular move.
00:51We're going to move on to sport now, and before we get into some of Rich Faye's wonderful write-ups on Manchester United's draw with Arsenal,
00:57around 5,000 Manchester United fans took to the streets of the city to protest the ownership group at the club.
01:02Jim Ratcliffe arrived at the club around a year ago to great excitement, but the redundancy of hundreds of club employees,
01:08the hiking of tickets up to £66 and the removal of concession tickets have seen him lose a lot of respect within the fanbase.
01:14It isn't helped by the failure of the club to improve on the pitch.
01:17There was some improvement over the weekend though, with an encouraging performance and point earned against Arsenal.
01:22Rich Faye has put together a few pieces on the grain, the first a breakdown of the performance,
01:26with Bruno Fernandes' wonderful free kick a real highlight, and another on Christian Eriksen's word on Rasmus Hoyland.
01:32The young striker has struggled in his second season with the side, but compatriot Eriksen has done his bit to boost his confidence a little, which is well worth a read.
01:39And that's all for this week, please stay tuned for future updates, follow Manchester World, and we'll see you again next week.
