00:00With the oak tree of Tittybottle Park in Otley scheduled to be felled in January but eventually
00:07removed on the 7th of February, works to replace Otley's deteriorating pedestrian footway
00:12have commenced. The groundworks for the installation of a
00:16temporary footbridge over the River Wharf are underway, and Leeds City Council, together
00:21with contractor Balfour Beattie, have released this new animation which gives an insight
00:26into what the next stages of the project will look like.
00:29The 10 minute video is now available to watch in full online and shows how the temporary
00:34bridge will be installed along with how the old walkway will be taken down.
00:39It goes on to show how the new walkway will be attached to the ancient bridge before the
00:44temporary bridge and worksite are removed. The installation of the temporary footbridge
00:49is due to start in April and is expected to be open in June, subject to weather conditions
00:54and river levels. Mill Lane is now closed for vehicles through
00:58to November, although there is still access for the car park of the Adlington House Retirement
01:03Apartments. Leeds City Council have warned that Otley
01:07Bridge could see some occasional traffic management during the night and some potential weekend
01:12closures. During the scheme, the Council have said they
01:15will regularly engage and update residents about the progress, and discussions with Otley
01:20Boat Tire are taking place to assess the impacts of them operating this summer.
01:26The Council has offered to work with the Wharfdale Men's Shed and donate them part of the old
01:31Oak Tree Trunk. The charity are planning a community project which offers people the
01:35opportunity to get involved in potentially crafting park benches for Otley.
01:40The works are set to be completed in Autumn.
