00:00Palace issued a statement refuting Vice President Sara Duterte's claim that her father, former
00:05President Rodrigo Duterte, was a victim of state kidnapping. The palace clarified that Duterte's
00:11arrest followed legal procedures and was in line with international commitments. The former
00:17president was flown to The Hague to face charges of crimes against humanity before the International
00:22Criminal Court or the ICC. The case stems from his administration's bloody war on drugs
00:27and allegations of extrajudicial killings dating back to his tenure as mayor of Davao City.
00:33According to the palace, kidnapping is defined as the forcibly taking of a person without legal
00:38authority. The ICC however requested assistance from the International Criminal Police Organization
00:44or INTERPOL, of which the Philippines is a member and has obligations to comply with. The palace
00:50also assured the public that Duterte's arrest was conducted in accordance with standard operating
00:55procedures and denied allegations of mistreatment, stating that the former president was given proper
01:01care during the transfer. The palace also maintained that Duterte's arrest was due
01:06to his failure to respond to ICC notices. It was issued by an authority, by the court.
01:14If there is an issuance of any order from the court, we have to comply.
01:22Especially with us, what happened was through INTERPOL. So, I don't see any kidnapping.
01:28We completed the paperwork. They were given one year to act on the alleged complaints,
01:36but there was no action. If there was a lack, and they say they were not given due process,
01:43they are the ones who turned away from their right to be heard by the prosecutor.
