00:00Good news is that dengue cases have been on a decline from last year's number.

00:04The bad news is cases could surge any time if the conditions are right for the carrier to breed.

00:09As such, the Department of Health is hard at work on clinical tests and new methods to eliminate

00:14or slow down the spread of dengue, while preaching greater vector control measures

00:19that work well against mosquito-borne diseases, such as insecticide-treated nets, or ITNs,

00:24and Indoor Residual Spraying, or IRS. Our Bienvenido Manalo fills us in with more.

00:33Even though the heat of the weather is experienced in intensive ways,

00:36the health department is still strictly warning the public about the threat of dengue,

00:40because the dengue does not choose the season.

00:43I think our increase may be related to warmer weather. So,

00:47it doesn't mean summer, but the dengue is still there all year round.

00:52I'm dengue.

00:53According to DOH, more than 4,000 dengue cases were recorded from February 2 to February 15,

00:592025, 10 percent less than dengue cases from January 1 to February 1.

01:04The most recorded cases are from Calabarzona, with more than 12,000,

01:08followed by the National Capital Region and Central Luzon.

01:11Most of those affected by dengue are still children age 14 and below.

01:15The case fatality rate is lower this year at 0.35 percent, compared to 0.42 percent last year.

01:22Although new dengue cases have gone down, the department expects a surge in the rainy season.

01:27Because of this, the department continues to discover other ways to prevent the deadly disease.

01:52In some parts in Taiwan, it's very promising, but it's not that cheap.

01:58Today, the Department of Health conducted hospital rounds at Rizal Medical Center

02:03in Pasig City to ensure the hospital's readiness to respond to dengue.

02:07According to hospital records, there has been over a 60 percent increase

02:11in dengue cases in the city from last year. Most of those affected are children.
