00:00Thank you all for coming out here today because we are at a critical turning point in American
00:12history.
00:18In 1900, life expectancy in the United States was 48 years of age.
00:25In 1900, 20% of all children died before the age of 5 in the United States of America.
00:35And then, what happened?
00:37A public health movement began to spend on every family the health care protections which
00:46they needed, vaccines, Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, access to food, access
00:54to clean water, access to clean air, and now we've added 30 additional years of life expectancy
01:01since the progressive health care movement began in our country.
01:06That is what the Republicans are fighting to roll back because they have always harbored
01:13an ancient animosity towards all of those programs which they never supported in the
01:20first place.
01:21They want to cut Medicaid by $800 billion.
01:28Right now, 70% of all people in nursing homes are on Medicaid.
01:37Half of those people have Alzheimer's.
01:41Most of the children born in the United States, it's because of Medicaid funding.
01:47330,000 people in Massachusetts alone are on Medicaid with help for their disabilities.
01:56Medicaid is more than a line in the budget.
02:00Medicaid is a lifeline for every American family to ensure that they get the help which
02:07they need.
02:09That is what is on the line.
02:11They want to cut $230 billion from SNAP, from food assistance.
02:1850%, 50% of all children in the United States at some point in their lives will be on SNAP,
02:28will be in need of food assistance.
02:31They want to cut $330 billion for Title I, education for poor children in our country.
02:39Less for the kids with disabilities in the school across our country.
02:43They want to wipe out these programs that have provided the protections for every single
02:50family in our country.
02:52They are our victories and they are coming for our programs which we have fought for,
02:59which you have fought for, which generations have fought for.
03:04Just over a few weeks, Donald Trump and Elon Musk have taken a chainsaw to our health care
03:11system.
03:12They want to cut Medicare.
03:13They want to cut Medicaid.
03:14Why do they want to do that?
03:15They are selling out your care to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.
03:23Donald Trump, Elon Musk and their Republican enablers in Congress are pursuing a Make America
03:30Sick Again campaign to keep the billionaires rich again, more than they have ever been
03:39in our country's history.
03:41Their cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act will make health more expensive.
03:47Their work to add work requirements to Medicaid will force Americans to go through more red
03:53tape to get their care and their cuts to community health centers and hospitals mean Americans
03:59will need to wait longer for care from providers who are overworked and underpaid.
04:04Musk, Trump and Republicans want to give billionaires more money to spend on luxury trips and vacation
04:11homes and private schools and concierge medicine for them.
04:16But what is left behind is the rubble of the public health system that has been put in
04:22place over the last hundred years for every family.
04:25But every dollar they hand out to billionaires is one dollar taken away from Medicaid and
04:30SNAP and health care and education and housing and veterans health care, whoever earned it.
04:37Social Security, Alzheimer's research, all are going to be slashed.
04:42Billionaires get enough support off the backs of Americans already.
04:47We need to make sure we fight so everyone else gets it.
04:50So on the floor of the Senate, I voted no on Robert F. Kennedy as the Secretary of Health
04:56and Human Services.
04:58I will vote no on Trump's NIH director.
05:03I will vote no on Donald Trump's FDA commissioner.
05:09I will vote no on every one of Donald Trump's nominees for everything.
05:16I am going to vote no.
05:22And I am going to vote no to a funding plan which the Republicans want to put on the Senate
05:28floor that will gut the health care programs of this country that serve every single American.
05:35I will vote no.
05:42And we must make sure that we put the Republicans on record that they are going to try to destroy
05:50Medicaid and Medicare and education programs and clean air and clean water and food for
05:58kids all across our country.
06:00We're going to make them accountable.
06:02We're going to make sure that they have to pay the political price.
06:08So they think we're knocked down.
06:10We are not knocked out.
06:12We are up.
06:13We're going to fight.
06:14And we're going to win.
06:15We're going to win.
06:16We just have to keep this message out there.
06:18We have to make sure that they know that these programs are essential for everyone.
06:23The past is just a memory.
06:25The future is the hard reality of the poor, the sick, the elderly, the disabled in our
06:31society.
06:32We have to make sure that a nostalgia for a time that never existed is replaced with
06:38the idealism that we need for all of these health care programs to be protected.
06:44Thank you all so much.
06:45You cannot make America great again by making America hate again.
06:50We're going to fight them every single step of the way.
06:53Thank you all so, so much.
06:54Let's go get them.
