00:00Democrats are saying they may shut down the government.
00:03I mean, okay, I just can't imagine they're going to do that.
00:09I mean, how are they going to explain that to the American people?
00:11They want, they want every, they don't want the military to pay?
00:16They want, listen, I'm supposed to, on Monday, I'm supposed to go with the EPA administrator,
00:21I'm going to take him to St. Louis to see in person the site where we have nuclear waste
00:27still burning in St. Louis.
00:29And the Democrats are what?
00:30They're going to shut down the government so the EPA has to stop all of its remediation
00:34and monitoring work?
00:35We can't monitor the nuclear burn in my state?
00:38Better not happen.
00:39So on Department of Education cuts, at this point are you concerned that there could be
00:42cuts to programs like IDEA to Pell grants?
00:46Are you at all concerned that there'll be issues with getting those kinds of funding
00:49out of the department?
00:50My hope is it'll make it easier to get it out, that the funding ought to go directly
00:55to local school districts, parents who have IDEA plans.
00:59That would be my hope.
01:00I mean, obviously these details are being finalized, but that's my message to the administration
01:05of the department is, hey, use this as an opportunity to move that funding to local
01:10school districts, to parents.
01:12So, you know.
01:13Your thoughts on the tariffs that President Trump is putting in?
01:17Well, let's see where they end up.
01:19I mean, the president has revised these several times.
01:21So, listen, I think the bottom line is, when I think about the economy, I think it's time
01:27for congressional Republicans to start thinking about a tax cut for working people.
01:30I'm all for renewing the president's tax cuts.
01:32We've got to do that.
01:33But I think we probably need, additionally, to do something that's going to actually
01:36cut taxes, put money back into the hands of hard-working Americans.
01:39I think they need it, based on what we're seeing.
01:41Are you worried, sir?
01:42Senator, have you been in touch with your state education officials?
01:46Oh, yeah.
01:47So, what is it?
01:48Are there things that they rely on for the school to do that they're going to have to
01:53make up and walk it their own?
01:55Well, funding.
01:56I mean, we get funding.
01:57Missouri gets funding, certainly.
01:58And my hope is that that won't be interrupted.
02:00Listen, I'm all for fewer people, fewer employees in Washington, bureaucrats in Washington
02:04taking up head funding.
02:06I'd love for everything that they make, all their salaries, all that stuff, to be moved
02:09to states like mine, at the local school districts.
02:12But what about Title I funding?
02:13Because that's supposed to help the disparity between low-income schools, higher-income
02:17schools.
02:17I mean, how is that going to be done locally when it's at the federal level that kind of
02:22tries to level the playing field there?
02:24Well, the checks are written at the federal level.
02:26So my point is that I hope that the funding will still be available.
02:30But in terms of having thousands of employees at the Department of Education who are getting
02:35paid and taking a chunk out of that funding in general, I'd love for all of that to be
02:39moved to local school districts and to states.
02:44You don't think the big-picture coordination that happens at the Department of Education
02:48will end up being cut by this at all?
02:51I don't know the answer to that.
02:52I don't know the answer to that.
02:52But my hope is, my message is, that I hope that we are going to move that funding to
02:57local school districts and states.
02:59All right.
02:59Thank you, guys.
03:00I've got to go.
03:00These two murdered children destroyed school.
03:03We can use the money here, Senator.
03:05We can use the money here for our schools.
