00:00Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has rejected Uri May's appeal to be registered
00:07as a political party, according to his chairman, P. Ramasamy.
00:12On February 27th, the Kuala Lumpur High Court granted Uri May leave to initiate judicial
00:16review proceedings against the government's decision after the Registrar of Societies
00:21rejected its application on July 4th last year.
00:24In a statement, Ramasamy said they appealed to the minister in accordance with due process,
00:29but it was rejected before the court hearing could proceed.
00:33He said in a letter dated March 7th, an official from the ROS conveyed the minister's decision
00:39without providing any reasons for the rejection.
00:42Ramasamy said the rejection of Uri May's registration must align with the constitutional
00:48provisions that guarantee the right to form political parties and associations.
00:53He said while the rejection was not surprising, it shows that Uri May's growing political
00:58influence has unsettled the current government.
01:02Uri May's lawyer Shamshir Singh Tind told FMT that its legal team would be filing a
01:07notice to the court today to amend the party's judicial review application and statement
01:12in light of the development.
