00:00Hello everybody, I'm Mark Goldbridge and I'm doing your Ruben Amerin press conference reaction
00:06I'm also talking about topical things in relation to Manchester United as well
00:10Lots to talk about as Amerin prepares for Leicester and gives injury updates and also updates on the future
00:17But before I get into that, let me start talking like that and let me talk to you about De Ligt
00:21De Ligt has been called up for the Netherlands
00:25International break he wasn't actually in the squad
00:28He is now mixed opinions on this
00:32Obviously, it's great for De Ligt and I'm sure he wants to play for the Netherlands
00:35so you've got to be happy for him and it's a
00:37Vindication of how well he's been playing recently should have been in the squad anyway and is in the squad
00:43So we can't really cry about that. What I will say on a personal level is I was actually quite happy
00:48He wasn't in the squad because he gets two weeks off and gets a bit of rest and he's such an important player for us
00:54So look I do get a little bit nervous about
00:57Injuries and this team and there's a large part of me now over this next two weeks international break
01:03Who will be just expecting at any moment in time De Ligt got injured in the game last night mark
01:08So, um, that's my concern. You can't live like that. He's in the Netherlands team because he's played
01:13Well, he deserves to be in there. He shouldn't been left out in the first place. So congratulations to him
01:17I just hope he doesn't get injured
01:20so smash a like on the video or get a comment in about De Ligt because I think he deserves it and
01:26Koeman's a bit of a tit for leaving De Ligt out of it. And anyway, let's talk about let's just talk about
01:33transfers not transfers and
01:36Injuries for a moment one of the questions that was asked of Ruben
01:39I remember this is fresh off the press the embargo just only just came out a few minutes ago
01:43So I'm live at half one. This is only just coming out. You'll get it here first
01:48Mason Mount, do you think you'll be ready for Sunday?
01:50And how much are you looking forward to working with him after a prolonged period out because he's obviously been out for a while
01:57Ruben Arum said already said that I really love Mason Mount. I see him. I know he suffers
02:02I know he does everything right? He eats right? His physical aspect is perfect. He's trying too much
02:08Maybe he's thinking too much about everything. He was a European champion
02:11He's really talented player and when the player does everything like he does he will always have the support of everybody in the club
02:17So we'll try to manage the load and you already saw some players that had a lot of problems during one time in some moments
02:23He can stay fit and I believe a lot in Mason Mount and we need players like
02:27Mount and any chance he'll play on Sunday. I think he's going to the bench
02:31We'll see but we need every player and if he's fit, I'm going to take him
02:35He cannot play too many minutes, but just five minutes of Mount is perfect
02:38So Mason Mount should be back on the bench on Sunday now, obviously, I think everybody straight away is going to go
02:44It's a long time between Friday lunchtime and Sunday. There's all of Friday afternoon. There's all of Friday evening
02:50There's all of Saturday and there's all of Sunday morning for Mason to get injured again
02:54but look fingers crossed he should be in the team on Sunday and coming back and I
03:01think that when we talk about
03:03We've been through this position with Phil Jones some of us so to me
03:07It's not you you are allowed to say that I don't think Mason Mount is going to be a good signing for United
03:13I think he's going to be injury prone and I think he's going to go down as a big waste of money
03:16You are allowed to say that I say that but what I always counter it with is a lot of people didn't really understand
03:23Why ten hog bought mounts? I?
03:25Think now under Amram you can see why you would want mount
03:30I mean ten hog didn't buy mount because he knew the end of the day. Hmm. I'm gonna get sacked
03:36Hmm, and then I'm rims gonna come in and he plays with two number tens. Hmm. I got two number tens
03:42You know, he's not that's not why we didn't buy mount because ten hog was gonna get sacked and Amran plays with two tens
03:47I don't really know why ten hog bought mounts in the system that he played but in this system
03:53Mason Mount would work and I think Mason Mount's a good footballer, but
03:58Phil Jones wasn't terrible as a center back
04:00He just never stayed fit and I think that's the big problem with mount is like I don't trust that he's ever gonna stay fit
04:07But if he can between now and the end of the season it would be such a help because he is a good player and
04:13Also asked do you feel as though the work that you're doing the tactics the ideas you have albeit is slow
04:19They're starting to show themselves
04:21And I'm rim said I feel that in the last few games that we can understand better the idea of what we want to do
04:27We are better understanding the plan for the games. We're giving more time to the team to win or draw games
04:32We are not suffering one goal and then losing our minds and suffering another goal
04:36So we're understanding the moments of the game and also we're understanding better the way we want to play and I think
04:41What we're really talking about there is the system and the players getting used to the system
04:46they shouldn't take from the start of December to the middle of March to
04:52Understand the basics and that's fundamentally where I think everything's gone wrong
04:57I think the press some fans some ex-players
05:00Obsessed so much about the system and the formation and I've seen it from day one that actually although it's a 3-4-3
05:08Sometimes it's a 5-4-1 it changes the system changes and I'm rim signposted that in December his system changes
05:15So it's not actually structurally
05:17I mean, I've even heard certain ex-players saying he's too rigid and stubborn with his system
05:24You know, I would reflect that back and say you're full of shit like
05:28Watch Manchester United it changes game to game. It changes in the game
05:32The problem we have and I'm room sort of alludes to it. There is the low
05:39The low understanding IQ of the players and
05:43the inability to do the basics and
05:45also the weak mentality of some of these players and
05:49I think what I'm room is saying there is that look the obsession with the system is ridiculous
05:54If we're hitting long balls instead of playing the pass if we're shooting instead of playing the pass
05:58Then we're not making the right decisions mentally
06:01If we're misplacing a 10-yard pass or booting a goal kick out of play. We're not using the ball correctly
06:07We're not using our minds correctly
06:09And I think what I'm room is alluding to there when he says we know we're drawing games and you know
06:14We're not letting goals go in and then you know that that define us
06:17It obviously is so much in the head with these players and we know that
06:23So we've got so much evidence over the years of players downing tools or you know shooting instead of passing
06:30I don't think it's the system or the formation
06:32I think what you're trying to do here is reprogram players and it takes time and we saw it against Sociedad last night
06:39We conceded an early goal that could have dictated the rest of the game
06:43But we got back into the game and I think what I'm rooms trying to treat teach these players is to learn new habits
06:48Around the way things happen in a game and the way you can change them
06:52I thought the second half was completely different to the first half last night
06:55What kind of selections do you think you'll be making for the rest of the season and I presume this is alluding to?
07:00Premier League Europa League now get in the comments. Do you care about the Premier League like?
07:06Honestly, you can't just say I don't care. Let's lose every week
07:09You can't do that, but I would like to see us rotating a little bit
07:12I would like to see some younger players play and I think to do that though
07:16The reason I'm asking you is that as a fan base we need if we get beat by Leicester on Sunday
07:21But he rotates we need to sit there and go don't really care
07:25Understand why he's doing it. It's prioritizing the Europa League now
07:28I don't think you'll do that against Leicester because we've got an international break
07:30But after the international break when we've got like City at the weekends and then Leon midweek and stuff like that
07:35I think then is when rotation should happen. Anyway, this is what Amriem had to say
07:39It is an Amriem press conference reaction. He said with different competitions
07:42We have to rotate because we're risking a little bit some players. For example, Casimiro was tired
07:47We didn't want to risk Agaté because today was a decision in one competition and our Agaté wanted to stay here
07:53I think we have Mason Mount. He's going to return as well
07:56Mainu, maybe he will return in a few weeks. I don't know for sure Harry Maguire will try not to risk
08:01We'll see for Sunday. We need all the players again. I think against Leon
08:05It's going to be a different kind of game the physicality they have the same physicality
08:10It's going to be a different game more demanding in that aspect and we have a lot of difficult games in the Premier League
08:14So hopefully that is a hint as to what some of us want if Leon is our season and it is
08:20And I think every round you go through in the Europa League the closest you get to that prize
08:25We're into the quarterfinals now. So I think the priority
08:29Clearly Amriem is alluding to it as well. The priority is the Europa League and I don't know what
08:36Well, I'll find it out for you now. I don't know what games we've got
08:40coming
08:42Up around Leon, but let me just double-check here
08:48April
08:49Yeah, so we've got Man City on the Sunday before
08:54Thursday Leon and then Newcastle away on the Sunday in between I mean that they're difficult games in the Premier League Man City and
09:02Newcastle are difficult games, but realistically
09:06Newcastle away, you've got to rotate
09:09You've got to you've got to say look, we're probably going to lose that game and we've got to look at that as a fan base
09:14That's why I'm asking the question Man City before Leon in the Manchester Derby and then Newcastle sandwiched between Leon
09:22We've got to be willing to sacrifice those games to protect our players for a bigger game
09:27And you beating Man City and Newcastle will not get us into the top half of the table beating Leon will put us into the semifinal
09:33of the Europa League which puts us one one tie away from the final which could win us 80 million pounds and a trophy so
09:38I think I think we all know what what what what needs to happen there?
09:43How important is it to climb up all those different spots to get the money in the season in relation to the league?
09:48Everything is important and we need to continue with this feat
09:51I mean if anyone can put in the information in the chat how much you get for finishing
09:5514th or 13th in the Premier League or 11th. I don't I don't know maybe is it is it millions?
10:01I don't know. I mean to me. I just I just don't care
10:03It can't be 80 million can it and it's not silverware
10:06so the Premier League can do one as far as I'm concerned for Man United this year, but I'm rim says
10:12We can do it and we showed against us and what we can do
10:14We have to be humble and forget forget the table and face Lester like we face saucy dad
10:18we just need to win and improve our position the most important thing is to continue with this feeling of winning and
10:24And that we were improving as a team and I think he's right there. You know what whoever plays whatever happens
10:30I think confidence is the big thing that you can take away from saucy your dad and
10:38Confidence is what we can it would be good to beat Lester with a lot of the first-team players and then send them off an
10:43International duty and say come back with a buzz and then you know, we come back into April and it's a big month
10:50What about heaven? How do you think he fared? How do you think he handled the set occasion?
10:53This is Amram's thoughts on on heaven
10:55Then he says if he convinced if he continues like that he's going to play of course, he's young
10:59He didn't play much this season
11:02But I really like his confidence. I like his pace. I think he's good in defending the box
11:06I think he's quite complete but he has a lot to work to do and the Premier League will face a different kind of player
11:11He's going to be tested in a different way
11:13So we're trying to manage all this because he's really young and look heaven doesn't need to play every week
11:18McGuire is going to be back. You've got deletes. You've got Masraoui. Yoro is going to be back
11:23heaven's not going to play every week and I think this has sometimes been the problem with the likes of
11:29Rasmus and Gennaccio and Mainu is that certainly under ten hog, they were playing every week and
11:36I think that you know
11:39We can't play these players every week
11:41We've got to give them time to grow and stuff and I think that's what he's saying about heaven
11:46Amran was asked that he's spoken more than once about surviving the season and getting to the summer
11:50Has after the Rostosi had dad game how confident are you will survive?
11:55He said I know that in football especially in our moment
11:58We can have a really good moment and then drop really fast. So our focus is to continue
12:02Don't get too happy. Don't get too depressed. My end idea is to continue
12:05We have to survive that definition could change in the end
12:08but our idea is to improve the team to be prepared fresh for the game against Leicester and not focus a lot and changing our
12:14Mind because we win or lose
12:16Stay the course. What do you think Oh Bruno? What do you think?
12:20What do you think about Bruno tonight and really by example
12:24The way he made himself available the way he played
12:26He said I think it's important for the team and you can see it by the numbers and you can see from the last games
12:31He's always the guy that scores. It's not the most important thing
12:34It's not the only thing but you're always there when you play for this team
12:37You have to be prepared for the critics and I don't and I understand the former players had a lot of success here
12:42The standards for them were high. They see things like that. Sometimes it's black and white. Sometimes it's just not black and white
12:48There are some other colors and you have to understand the context again. He's always there trying his best
12:52So I'm really proud to coach a player like Bruno
12:55Three four three physically when you go up against the team has the same shape
12:58Does that need physicality increase because you're going man-to-man in every position?
13:02He said I think it's clear because it's a lot of jewels. It's a man-to-man basically, especially where the ball is
13:07It's man-to-man, so it's going to be so much more physical
13:09It's different game and we have to use different positions and different tools to win the game if we think we're going to play the
13:14Next game the same way we play today
13:15It's a mistake because it's a completely different team that are going to face and physically it's going to really important, especially in our league
13:24Can you share anything about those different tools no, I won't do that
13:29And basically that was it
13:32Look, I don't think that's particularly bad for a Amarin press conference straight after the saucy a dad game, which is what he has to do
13:40Obviously, we're talking about Lester, but I think more importantly we're talking about the bigger picture. I
13:46Quite look forward to the March international break. Actually, I know I know we're in a I know we're in a
13:52Difficult position as a football club off the pitch the stadium the money
13:56Kenda's gone to Chelsea today
13:58but I think I think you just I think what you have to do and everybody's going to make their own mind up is I
14:05Did the morning show and acknowledged it's embarrassing, you know Amarin wanted that player it's his number one choice
14:11We were in talks with him and he signed for Chelsea. I don't agree with people saying oh, it's not that deep
14:16it is that deep it's embarrassing, but
14:20football is riddled with clubs that didn't get plan a got plan B and we're still successful and that's what we just got a
14:27Look, I can't sit here and say I'm worried about Sir Jim Radcliffe
14:31I'm worried about the Glazers and then when bad things happen go
14:34You know, that's a shock. We just have to adapt to it
14:37This is now gonna you know mean that maybe maybe a mistake like that
14:42We won't make it again this summer
14:45We don't know how much money we've got
14:47But what I'm trying to say is the March international break is always an interesting time for transfers
14:52I'm gonna talk about a little bit about a couple of players have been hearing about on the eight o'clock show tonight probably but
14:58We've got to get realistic like I know Paul Scholes
15:00I thought you I think I actually thought he was joking when he said if we sell three or four players of the Mendy would
15:04Be a good signing for Man United. We're not getting some Mendy, you know, those sort of conversations are not what we're going to do
15:11We are going to have to shop in a different shop, which is what we were trying to do with Kenda
15:16But then he goes to Chelsea
15:17Anyway, the Premier League is so competitive now, there are so many clubs that are competitive and they've all got money
15:23You know one player I would love to sign is Kuna from Wolves
15:28I know some people say he's got a bit bad attitude, etc
15:31I like that
15:33Cantona are the worst attitude in the world at Leeds and he became the spark that ignited this football club
15:39So I would love to sign Kuna. I mean that to me would be I
15:44Don't know whether we can do it, but I'd love to bring him in and play him in behind the striker
15:48Or maybe sometimes as the striker. I would love to bring that sort of player in and but but my point is
15:55So would so would probably a load of other clubs in the Premier League and
16:00We've learned a lesson with Kenda there. Oh, he's 17. He's a player for the future and Amram knows him
16:05He's going to come to United. No, he's going to go to Chelsea the comp there's not there are alternatives and people go
16:11Oh, you know this Fernandez lad at Braga, etc
16:14There are alternatives, but there's not infinite alternatives and then alternatives might not be as good
16:19it's a competitive sport and this is why I always say about you wafer and the
16:23Increasing games and everything like that. Is that you just burn out?
16:28Something a resource that's not infinite
16:30Like we don't have you know
16:31If I'm back if Mbappé gets tired from the number of games that he's playing and burns out
16:35We don't have four or five other Mbappé's like that. And now that's the same for United as well like
16:42You can't just say oh, we're gonna buy all these talented young players and in five years
16:46Because there's not an infinite resource of talented young players that are going to be good enough to be the best players in the world
16:52And the competition is going to be there. So we're gonna have to adapt
16:56but I like the March international break because that's when you really start to
17:00Start planning for the summer and you start to hear stuff and stuff like that. So hopefully that's going to happen
17:05But yeah, I think with regards to the the Amram press conference
17:12Look Leicester to me is just a nice little game
17:15It's not I think we'll win. I hope we'll build on the confidence. I actually would well
17:20It's not the preview, but I actually hope he does go quite strong. I'd like to see the likes of Rasmus, Xerxe, Gnaccio
17:27Build on that first that second half last night and start to build more
17:31I want to see more of the passing whoever scores great
17:34but I want to see more of the
17:35the one-touch passing that we sort of saw in the second half and build on that and that comes from confidence and
17:41Unity so I hope to see more of that and I like what he said about the Premier League
17:46I think we've we've got really difficult games that hadn't realized Newcastle right in between those Lyon games
17:53where we'd be absolute prats to go to Newcastle and
17:58Put a strong team out and I think you need to lay the foundations to the fans that yeah
18:03Newcastle away is normally a game that you look at and go that'll be tough, but we all know
18:08When you look at the league when you look at the fixture list in August
18:12There's no point in looking at a game in late April or mid April or early May and go
18:17Oh, we've got Newcastle away
18:19that'll be a big game because it's always going to get dictated to by what the circumstances are in the tournaments and
18:25The Premier League for us is dead
18:27So we've got to look at that game and maybe the Manchester Derby and go you know what I'm not going to pick Xerxe
18:34I'm not going to pick De Ligt. I want them fully fit for the Lyon game
18:37You know because that second leg is going to be Old Trafford and you're going to need energy
18:41So it's good that he's laying the foundation for that. I'm back at 8 o'clock tune in for that be a good show tonight
18:48I'm gonna have a drink for the first time this week recovery, and I'm not recovering alcoholic or anything like that
18:53I mean recovering from my stitches
18:55just want to clear that up and
18:58Also, we've got a brilliant interview actually coming up at 5 o'clock today a bit of an end-of-week treats and Beth
19:03record an interview with Rob Dawson from ESPN on
19:07Yesterday talking about the stadium and transfer budgets and stuff like that, so I've watched it already so definitely watch that at 5
19:14We'll be bringing some of it into the show at 8 as well. Take care everyone. Thanks for watching legends
19:19I'll speak to you in a bit
