00:00It's the end of an era.
00:02I, Justin P.J. Trudeau.
00:04After nearly a decade of service, now former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has hung up
00:10his jersey and bid farewell to Canadians.
00:13This may be my last day here in this office, but I will always be boldly and unapologetically
00:19Canadian.
00:21People are already starting to talk about Justin Trudeau very much in the past tense,
00:26and so they will have their own opinions based on a broader legacy than anything that
00:30happened in the last month.
00:32And Maritimers certainly had theirs.
00:35Trudeau's gone as of today.
00:37How do you feel about that?
00:38Pretty great.
00:39I'd say so.
00:40I mean, yeah, he definitely seemed to have quite a negative impact.
00:45So I mean, I'm grateful.
00:47For the most part, he was pretty good.
00:48He did definitely did a lot for like Indigenous communities, things like that.
00:52I'm just glad he's gone.
00:53He's been there for too long, and the Canadian economies are struggling.
00:56So it's good that he's moved on.
00:59I probably would not have voted for him again.
01:03There's no denying Trudeau left his mark on Canadian history, from his apology to residential
01:08schools in 2017 to the legalization of cannabis a year after that.
01:13One political professor says Trudeau's response to the COVID-19 pandemic was also a defining
01:19moment.
01:20He really provided a moment of leadership.
01:24He was on the news every day.
01:26You know, they were sending out money all over the place to support people.
01:30Trudeau has had unpopular moments, too.
01:33His blackface scandal dominated headlines in 2019, as well as a string of ethics violations.
01:39The flip side is he's also made a lot of Canadians really, frankly, embarrassed to be Canadian
01:44at many times.
01:46But whether they're ready or not, Canadians are now in the hands of a new prime minister,
01:51one many are still getting to know.
01:53Do you know anything about Mark Carney at all?
01:55I do not know much about him at all.
01:58I don't know anything about Mark Carney at all.
02:00Sorry.
02:01Do you know anything about him?
02:02I heard that he used to be the head of the Brookfield.
02:08So yes.
02:11And Trudeau's legacy will be debated for years to come, but with new leadership, Canadians
02:15seem ready to turn the page.
02:17Katie.
02:18Thank you so much for that, Vanessa.
02:19CTV's Vanessa Wright for us in Halifax.
