नई दिल्ली: आज 16 मार्च को पूरा देश राष्ट्रीय टीकाकरण दिवस मना रहा है। भारत में राष्ट्रीय टीकाकरण दिवस की शुरुआत साल 1995 से हुई थी।16 मार्च 1995 को भारत सरकार ने वैश्विक पोलियो उन्मूलन के लिए “पल्स पोलियो टीकाकरण कार्यक्रम” शुरू किया था और भारत में पहली बार ओरल पोलियो वैक्सीन दी गई थी। यह वह दौर था जब देश में पोलियो के मामले तेजी से बढ़ रहे थे, जिस पर नियंत्रण पाने के लिए सरकार ने पोलियो टीकाकरण की शुरुआत की थी। भारत सरकार के सघन पोलियो टीकाकरण अभियान का नतीजा है कि देश पूरी तरह से पोलियो मुक्त हो चुका है। राष्ट्रीय टीकाकरण दिवस मनाने का मुख्य उद्देश्य लोगों के बीच टीकाकरण के बारे में जागरूकता फैलाना है। इसके अलावा, डॉक्टरों और स्वास्थ्य कर्मियों को गंभीर बीमारियों से लड़ने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करना है। प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी के नेतृत्व में स्वास्थ्य एवं परिवार कल्याण मंत्रालय ने 25 दिसंबर 2014 को मिशन इंद्रधनुष की शुरुआत की थी। मिशन इंद्रधनुष के जरिए उन बच्चों और गर्भवती महिलाओं का टीकाकरण किया जाता है, जिनका नियमित टीकाकरण नहीं हो पाया है।
