00:41Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:42My name is Mariela De Los Santos.
00:44I'm from the Televisual Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:46We begin with the news.
00:59We now begin with the information.
01:01On Sunday, Venezuela condemned the criminal and inhumane actions of the U.S. government
01:06against Venezuelan migrants.
01:08The Venezuelan government denounced the persecution of thousands of Venezuelans in U.S. territory,
01:14as well as the expropriation of their personal property, businesses, bank accounts and personal
01:19assets.
01:21Venezuelan officials said that many fellow Venezuelans, mostly working women and men,
01:27are being persecuted at their workplaces, schools, churches and hospitals.
01:32Caracas recalls that many Venezuelans have left the country due to the blockade and economic
01:37sanctions imposed by Western countries, among them the United States.
01:44As part of these violating measures promoted by the United States, El Salvador received
01:50238 Venezuelan migrants in its maximum security prisons, accused of allegedly belonging to
01:57the now disbanded Tren de Aragua gang.
02:00The Salvadoran government itself announced that it would receive from the United States
02:05close to $200 million a year to help finance the penitentiary system, following an agreement
02:12between both countries.
02:14In view of this fact, the Venezuelan government rejects the new attempt to link its migrant
02:19population with organized crime, aligned with what it describes as illegitimate persecution
02:25driven by coercive measures imposed by the United States.
02:32And we stay in Venezuela, as the United Socialist Party Secretary General, Diosdado Cabello,
02:37said on a press conference on Sunday that over 5 million people had peacefully taken
02:43part in assemblies to the nomination of candidates for the elections of May 25th.
02:48Cabello said that the cohesion of the revolutionary forces at the grassroots assemblies of the
02:54Great Patriotic Front shows the strength of the local leadership and communal mobilization
02:59capacity.
03:00Cabello also stated that out of the assemblies came 163,000 nominees for such posts as governors,
03:08deputies, and legislative councils.
03:10Cabello said that the party held a little over 47,000 assemblies throughout the country
03:16and that in every instance it went peacefully and with the full support of the Venezuelan
03:22people.
03:23We have faithfully complied with what has been contemplated in the party regulations
03:35and with was agreed at the party congress.
03:40What comes next after this consultation finalizing the numbers?
03:45At this point we have a complete report, 47,211 communities, that's the complete report, and
03:52let me tell you the numbers are impressive.
03:57Also in this context, Venezuela's United Socialist Party Secretary General, Diosdado Cabello,
04:01said that five generations of the great historical bloc have taken part in peaceful assemblies
04:06where no one has been excluded.
04:12We've had five generations of the great historical bloc involved, women, young people, the founding
04:19generation.
04:22The precursor generation, 15 years old and older, fully committed, all over Venezuela
04:29we watch assemblies being held under many different circumstances.
04:34Sometimes in a patio, a closed space, under a mango tree, under a tamarind tree, in a
04:41field, in a stadium bleachers, in a school, in a street, in some places they put an awning
04:45or several awnings, and their people gathered, and that is part of the movement of the strength.
04:58There was no exclusions of any kind, everyone who came to take part in it was welcome.
05:06We go now to Cuba as the latest report from the Ministry of Energy and Mines indicated
05:11that the recovery of the national power grid continues to move forward.
05:15Lázaro Guerra Hernández, the General Director of Electricity of the Ministry of Energy and
05:19Mines reported that the situation in the country was evolving during the course of the night
05:25and also of the day, and so far the country's electricity system has managed to interconnect
05:31from Havana to Guantánamo in the easternmost region of the country.
05:36Cuba's main thermoelectric power plant, António Guitérrez, was also ready to join the electric
05:41system and Havana had already reported over 57 connected circuits.
05:49Work continues around the clock to ensure the full recovery of the system nationwide.
06:10In Ecuador, a state of environmental emergency was announced after an oil spill occurred
06:16in the province of Esmeraldas, leaving thousands of families without access to water.
06:21Local authorities reported that various institutions are working to contain and recover the oil
06:26spilled due to a rupture in the Trans-Ecuadorian Pipeline system.
06:32Also this Sunday, they will announce the actions of evaluation, containment and coordination
06:37of resources in the area.
06:40The Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition warned that after the
06:44technical evaluation, it was determined that the vegetation of the ecosystem, the fauna
06:49and the aquatic sediments have been affected as a consequence of this tragic event.

07:09Welcome back to From the South.
07:34We continue with more information.
07:36On Saturday, the United States launched a series of airstrikes against the Houthi resistance
07:40in Yemen.
07:41The attacks were ordered by President Donald Trump and targeted key military installations
07:46in Sana'a and in the northern province of Saddaq, in areas crucial to the Houthi resistance
07:51efforts to protect Yemen from external threats.
07:54Despite the U.S. claims of targeting alleged terrorist bases, reports indicate that civilian
08:00areas were hit, resulting in significant casualties and destruction.
08:06Lebanese Al-Ashabi, the spokesman for the health ministry, confirmed that at least 31
08:11people were killed in the strikes.
08:17In this response, on Sunday, the popular Yemeni movement Ansar Allah announced that the airstrikes
08:22of the United States would not go unanswered.
08:25In this sense, they denounced that the aggressions against civilians and civilian facilities
08:29were considered war crimes and constitute a sign of U.S. terrorism against nations,
08:35and encouraged the Zionist regime to continue the cruel siege of Gaza.
08:40However, they assured that this would not affect the Yemeni people's support for Palestine,
08:46its people, and the resistance in Gaza.
08:53On Saturday, the office of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that
08:57the talks with the Hamas Palestinian resistance movement would carry on.
09:01Netanyahu instructed his negotiating team to continue the talks, based on the proposal
09:06by U.S. Middle East Representative Steve Whitkoff, for the immediate release of the remaining
09:1211 living hostages and half of the dead hostages.
09:16Hamas said that it was ready to release Israeli U.S. soldier Eran Alexander in exchange for
09:21a simultaneous start of negotiations for the implementation of the second phase of the
09:27ceasefire agreement, which entails a truce and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from
09:33Gaza, as well as the immediate opening of the border crossings.
09:42And in this context, the Palestinian Authority is also denouncing a campaign of restrictions
09:47by Israel against international humanitarian organizations that help Palestinian populations
09:53in Gaza and the West Bank.
09:55Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki called on the international community to act
10:00immediately against such Israeli measures.
10:03He stressed that Israel is preventing humanitarian organizations from getting the licenses needed
10:09to carry out their humanitarian work, while blocking any kind of action that could provide
10:14relief to millions of Palestinians affected by the war.
10:18The Palestinian Foreign Minister said that with this strategy, Tel Aviv is seeking to
10:23isolate the Palestinian people and to conceal human rights violations committed by the occupation
10:29forces.
10:32Meanwhile, the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, has warned that blocking the entry
10:40of aid to Gaza affects the lives of Palestinian children.
10:44They stressed that monitoring in Gaza is alarming, although aid is only a few kilometers away.
10:51According to UNICEF, the situation in the coastal enclave is ambiguous due to the Israeli
10:55regime's violations of the ceasefire agreement, and they urged for an immediate humanitarian
11:00ceasefire to save the lives of the children and to put an end to their suffering.
11:09And in Syria, 1,500 is the number of people that were killed at massacres in the towns
11:15of Tartus, Latakia, Hama and Homs.
11:18According to reports from human rights organizations, the number of civilians killed by the de facto
11:23government increased after two new massacres, which left 93 people dead.
11:30The organization warned that the majority of the victims of the repression belong to
11:35the Alawite minority, and they stressed that these attacks against the Syrian population
11:40violate the rights of the victims and of their families.
11:49We stay in Syria as the death toll from an explosion in a building in the coastal city
11:53of Latakia rose to 14 as rescue teams continue to search for possible survivors.
11:59The explosion that left the four-story residential building completely destroyed was due to an
12:04attempt by the owners of the hardware store to dismantle an unexploded ordinance in an
12:10unsafe way to extract copper.
12:13The Syrian civil defense reported that its rescuers recovered from under the rubble the
12:17bodies of a young man, a woman and her daughter.
12:20It also explained that among the victims there are four women and an equal number of children,
12:25in addition to 18 injured, including six children.
12:29According to the entity, the death toll is still preliminary while search and rescue
12:33operations continue.

13:36He said that if they lay down their weapons, their lives would be spared and they'd be
13:41guaranteed a dignified treatment in keeping with international law and the law of the
13:46Russian Federation.
13:47However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that his troops had not surrendered
13:52and continued to operate in certain areas of Kursk.

14:04province was key for any future peace negotiation between the two countries.
14:09Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the raid had been successful because
14:14the aim was to force the withdrawal of Russian troops from Pokrovsk.
14:19However, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Ukrainian troops that were still

15:49for openness and cooperation, highlighting China's advancements in fields like artificial
15:55intelligence, aviation and space exploration.
15:58Discussions focused on China's Belt and Road Initiative and also high-tech collaboration.
16:08In other news, in northern Macedonia, dozens of people died on early Sunday morning in
16:13a fire at a discotheque in Kokani town.
16:16According to official reports so far, there are 59 casualties and 155 people injured who
16:24were taken to nearby hospitals.
16:26The authorities also said that only 35 of the corpses had been positively identified,
