03:07From the importation of iron and steel, the data for February 2025 has been released by the BPS and has increased by 17.88 percent.
03:16That's US$843.3 million in February compared to the previous month, which was US$715.4 million.
03:25That's monthly. Next, we will look at the year-on-year, which is not much different.
03:31This also experienced an increase of 2.67 percent for the value of importation annually.
03:38Next, we will report on the data for iron and steel imports. This is the January-February period.
03:47As we can see, there is a pressure of around 10.67 percent for the value of importation cumulatively from January to February 2025.
03:58We will continue to discuss our topic this time, Mr. Mirsa.
04:02We will directly discuss with Mr. Mohd. Akbar Johan, the chairman of the Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association.
04:12Hello, Mr. Akbar, how are you?
04:15Good, Mr. Pras. Good fasting.
04:18Good, good fasting too. Thank you for the opportunity.
04:21It's interesting if we just look at the information that has been conveyed, Mr. Akbar.
04:26But before discussing further, maybe you can update first.
04:30How is the condition of the national iron and steel industry so far, Mr. Akbar?
04:37Yes, thank you, Mr. Pras.
04:38Actually, we know a lot about the current situation of the national iron and steel industry.
04:46If we look at the development, Mr. Pras, it has been announced that there is a growth of demand from steel in 2025.
04:59This is quite significant, approximately 5.09 percent.
05:06If we look at the volume, 2024 will be around Rp18.3 million.
05:12If we look at the potential growth, it can pass through 19 million tons of steel to supply domestic needs.
05:21Of course, this is seen from several indicators, Mr. Pras.
05:25Especially the positive indicators such as the Manufacture Purchasing Manager Index, or PMI.
05:33This also grew to 51.9 percent.
05:38Then there is also construction, the construction industry is also still growing.
05:44This is driven by a lot of property development needs, which can drive the needs of the state itself.
05:54Then from the transportation side, of course, transportation, including the construction of warehouses,
06:03also the automotive industry itself.
06:06How is the EV automotive industry now?
06:10The EV industry is also starting to grow here, and some investments are planned to build a factory, especially from China.
06:18Then the infrastructure project has been announced by the government that it will be left to the private sector.
06:26This also encourages the development of an ecosystem of balanced economic growth, not only by the government but also by the private sector.
06:36So we are convinced that with the situation that drives our country,
06:41our national steel industry should be able to enjoy the potential of this economic growth from the indicators that I mentioned earlier, Mr. Pras.
06:53Okay.
06:54If we look at some of the information that has been conveyed, such as the update of the condition of the steel industry in Indonesia,
07:00the PT Krakatoa Steel TBK is also aiming to become the logistic center of Bajaj Nasional.
07:07If you look at it, what is actually the basis of that effort?
07:10Is it based on the indicators that you just mentioned, Mr. Akbar?
07:15Yes. Of course, the steel industry cannot be separated from the global supply chain.
07:23How the international trade competition also directly affects the situation and growth of our national steel.
07:34We know how the markets in the US market have shifted the landscape.
07:42How President Donald Trump of the United States has given a very protective protection of domestic Bajaj.
07:52By giving 25% anti-dumping.
07:57In total, this is almost 200% to protect especially China's Bajaj.
08:04Why is China's Bajaj so terrible for the United States and also for the world?
08:10Because indeed, the situation of Bajaj productivity in China has reached a very fantastic number until today,
08:22which is 1.1 billion tons of Bajaj that can be produced.
08:27As a comparison, our country can produce no more than 18 million tons of national Bajaj.
08:37So, this gap causes an extraordinary magnet for China's Bajaj.
08:44In addition to the very loose protection in our country,
08:50compared to the regulations of Southeast Asian countries, which are actually very strong in the Bajaj industry,
09:00China has even carried out domestic protection in accordance with the policy of President Donald Trump of the United States.
09:08This is the idea of the Bajaj National Association, IAEA,
09:17to provide an opportunity for Krakatoa Steel as a state-owned company
09:26to strengthen our national Bajaj ecosystem.
09:31In other words, it can regulate both in terms of supply and national demand, Mr. Pras.
09:40I think this is the spirit.
09:43Moreover, we know that there is almost no more production in our country that becomes the master of the house in the country itself.
09:53This opportunity must be taken by Krakatoa Steel as a state-owned company.
09:59So what is guaranteed by Article 33 of the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia 1945,
10:08especially verse 2,
10:11how the strategic chain and production owned by the country and controlling the lives of many people,
10:23should be controlled by the country.
10:26And I think our idea of the IAEA to provide an opportunity for Krakatoa Steel
10:36to become an accelerator in the management of the national Bajaj,
10:43which is the hope for the entire national Bajaj industry ecosystem.
10:48Because later, Krakatoa Steel will be a big umbrella of this ecosystem
10:54and also responsible in ensuring domestic supply and demand
11:00without forgetting, without involving the private sector ecosystem in the national Bajaj.
11:08So we have to work together, we have to be solid,
11:12we talk about the interests of the IAEA, but not the other way around, only one or two parties, Mr. Pras.
11:20Okay, so they have to synergize with each other in order to become the logistics center of the Bajaj
11:26and later when we talk about the improvement of the management of the national Bajaj industry,
11:30what are the management and operational mechanisms?
11:33We will discuss later in the next segment, Mr. Akbar, we will take a break for a while.
11:36And Mr. Mirza, make sure you are still with us.
11:39We will continue our discussion with Mr. Akbar Johan, Chairman of the Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association.
12:05Mr. Akbar, what are the management and operational mechanisms of the national Bajaj logistics center?
12:25Mr. Akbar, what are the management and operational mechanisms of the national Bajaj logistics center?
12:31What are the management and operational mechanisms of the national Bajaj logistics center?
12:36Yes, actually, to put it simply, this is how our national Bajaj industry is managed.
12:47If we call it the Bajaj logistics center, of course we are talking about a consolidation business scheme.
12:56How do we ensure the efficiency of management?
13:00Also, how do we ensure the quality and standardization of the Bajaj that circulates in the country?
13:09And also, how can we control the stability of demand and supply in the country?
13:18Also, how do we maintain the reputation and credibility of the domestic Bajaj products?
13:26This means that we no longer want Bajaj products to circulate in the upstream, midstream, and even downstream.
13:37This creates a fear in terms of safety and security.
13:43We know that our country is quite vulnerable to a potential disaster.
13:48How did we see the flood yesterday?
13:51It was very easy to demolish buildings, even bridges.
13:55And of course, we will control the quality of the national Bajaj circulation.
14:02That is our responsibility.
14:04Of course, involving the government.
14:09In terms of capacity, how far is the production capacity of the national Bajaj industry?
14:14For example, to meet the needs of domestic Bajaj that are still quite high.
14:18We have already mentioned the trend, it continues to rise.
14:22Yes, in terms of capacity, this is actually what we are often asked about.
14:28How can we compete with our national Bajaj industry?
14:33Especially Krakato Steel itself as a state-owned enterprise.
14:37We look at the data shown by several parties,
14:42be it BPS or the World Steel Association.
14:47This says that the utilization of our national Bajaj factory productivity
14:56has not even reached 60%.
15:00Yes, it means there is a gap in the installed capacity.
15:04There is 40%.
15:06And it turns out that this 40%, Mr. Prahas,
15:09is what is filled by the very massive import of Chinese Bajaj.
15:15If I can mention the data we have collected,
15:19in the last 10 years, Mr. Prahas, from 2014 to 2024,
15:25we divided the Bajaj into semi-furnished, slab,
15:29as a solid material in the mid-strip, there is billet and there is bloom.
15:33Then there is also a finished product, there is a long product,
15:36and there is also a flat product.
15:38And also the most dominant now,
15:41which is very favorite, namely stainless steel.
15:45The data we got, Mr. Prahas,
15:48this is from 2014,
15:50all of these three clusters,
15:54the number is very impressive,
15:58in terms of volume, as well as in terms of value,
16:02this has almost reached US$10 billion per year.
16:09In 2014, it was around US$8 billion.
16:14In 2020, it slightly decreased.
16:17In 2021, there were 6 billion, even 9 billion.
16:22But what is very frightening is that since 2022,
16:282023, 2024,
16:31the US dollar value has reached US$11.37 billion per year.
16:42Then there is also 2023, US$10 billion,
16:47and also US$9.89 billion.
16:51Mr. Prahas, why do we want the government to be present
16:56in building the national Bajaj ecosystem in this republic?
17:00Because the investment from the Bajaj industry is very massive.
17:05Okay.
17:06The ratio to produce 1 million tons of crude steel
17:12requires US$1 billion.
17:15Okay.
17:16However, this ratio,
17:18if we want to have a capacity of 10 million tons of crude steel per year,
17:26it requires US$10 billion in capex.
17:33If we look at this data,
17:35every year, if the monetized capex has reached almost US$10 billion,
17:44we can build a Bajaj factory every year
17:49with a capacity of 10 million tons of Bajaj per year.
17:54Okay.
17:55This is an alert for the government
18:01that at this time, the demand has reached 20-22 million tons.
18:08By 2045, with the goals of Indonesia Emas,
18:12Bajaj will need approximately 100 million tons of crude steel.
18:21If this deficit does not fly out,
18:26it means that every year, we can see that in the last three years,
18:30we can produce a national Bajaj with a capacity of 30 million tons.
18:39It means that with only 18 million tons now,
18:43with the government itself standing for more than 40 years,
18:47the gap is still very large.
18:49This is the message that we want to give to the government
18:53that this is a very important warning.
18:58What if we admit that Bajaj is a strategic industry,
19:03the mother of industry,
19:05and is very related to our tools and equipment,
19:09which is impossible for us to buy raw materials from other countries.
19:13This is a very important and strategic step, Mr. Pras.
19:18Mr. Akbar, what do you think about the readiness of Krakatau Steel?
19:21What if it becomes a national Bajaj logistics center?
19:26Yes, Mr. Pras, of course, internally,
19:30we make massive improvements.
19:35Starting from efficiency in total,
19:38from head to toe, we do efficiency.
19:41Then we do productivity
19:44by providing much more modern factory innovations.
19:49And most importantly, Mr. Pras,
19:51we are also very open to do strategic synergies and partnerships,
19:58both domestically and internationally.
20:01So that the mindset in corporate management,
20:04especially BUMN,
20:06we will not use old patterns.
20:09We will do an overall transformation,
20:14including the mentality in managing the corporation
20:18in a profit-oriented way, Mr. Pras.
20:23Okay, so what kind of support from the government is expected
20:26to be like this initiative?
20:27We will discuss it again in the next segment.
20:29Mr. Akbar, we will be back in a moment.
20:31And, viewers, we will be right back.
20:33Next.
20:40BUMN
20:50Yes, you are still watching Market Review By.
20:52We will continue again.
20:53Mr. Akbar, if we talk about the form of government support,
20:56what kind of support is expected
20:57if there is an Australian initiative
20:59to become a national Bajaj logistics center?
21:03Yes, Mr. Pras,
21:05currently, the government with the new government,
21:10the president whose leadership is very strong,
21:14with the Minister of the Red and White Cabinet,
21:18it feels like this support will not be long.
21:24We have held auditions,
21:27we have held very productive meetings
21:31under the name of our National Bajaj Association,
21:36and also gave an overview of the situation of Bajaj National today
21:41and in the future.
21:42So, I feel that the government's support with our audience
21:47will hopefully be seen this year, Mr. Pras.
21:51How our initiative to implement the import trade order
21:57to be able to help manage our national Bajaj.
22:02This is very strategic
22:04because it remembers our 8% economic growth target
22:08and also the main driver is hillarization
22:14and also reindustrialization
22:16so that the main trigger and accelerator of our strategic industry
22:22is none other than our national Bajaj industry, Mr. Pras.
22:25Okay.
22:26Now, related to the concern,
22:28the potential monopoly if we talk about the national Bajaj industry trade order
22:32with the presence of the Bajaj National Logistics Center,
22:35how do you feel, Mr. Akbar?
22:38Yes, we appreciate that concern.
22:42It's as input and feeding for all of us.
22:46However, we also want to remind that
22:50the Bajaj National Logistics Center
22:53is an initiative to consolidate.
22:57We don't want the independence of our national Bajaj
23:04to shift to the point that the industrialists
23:08finally think of becoming traders,
23:11of course, the impact is the workforce
23:14and also other ecosystems.
23:17Mr. Pras, I need to say that this national Bajaj industry,
23:21if it is properly fed,
23:26it is no less than 10 million jobs that can be absorbed.
23:31Okay.
23:32The concern from you, Mr. President,
23:34about the job market,
23:37we can overcome by building an ecosystem
23:42through the trade order and the management order of the national Bajaj import.
23:47And also,
23:50the Bajaj National Logistics Center
23:52will be managed transparently.
23:55We will support all private sectors
23:58that can provide added value,
24:01can provide feeding
24:03for us to be involved
24:05in managing our national Bajaj trade order.
24:10So, once again, we will not leave the private sector,
24:14we will involve the private sector,
24:17especially in building the downstream industry,
24:21where you are much more profitable.
24:26Okay.
24:27We have to continue to encourage these working patterns
24:33by giving each other trust.
24:38Let's avoid the sectoral ego,
24:41let's not say this is the government, this is the private sector.
24:46Your message is very clear,
24:49that the involvement of the private sector
24:51will be given a larger portion,
24:55especially in terms of infrastructure.
24:57This is the role of the Bajaj National Center,
25:01which is driven by our Asia Association.
25:05I think that can explain, Mr. President,
25:07and we will be very open
25:09to encourage and share this work.
25:12That's it. The most important thing is the message
25:14that is also conveyed to the people,
25:16entrepreneurs in the iron and other Bajaj industries,
25:18such as transparency,
25:19then how to combine all parties
25:21to build a national Bajaj trade order
25:23that is really integrated
25:25to be able to strengthen the Bajaj industry in the future
25:29with the presence of the Bajaj National Logistics Center.
25:32Mr. Akbar, thank you very much for the time, sharing,
25:34and the update given to the audience today.
25:37Congratulations on your activity again.
25:39Stay well and see you again.
25:43Thank you, Mr. Pras.
25:44We will be back in a moment
25:46with another interesting topic
25:48related to the trade surplus
25:50in the midst of global economic challenges.
