00:00And for our sports banter, we have with us the FIFA Director of Tournaments Jaime Yarsa,
00:05LOC Tournament Director Relly San Agustin, and LOC Deputy Project Lead Kyra Dimeanda.
00:10So good morning.
00:11Good morning, Paul.
00:12Sir Jaime, Ma'am Kyra, and of course Sir Eli. Good morning.
00:15Good morning to you.
00:16Welcome to PTV Sports and of course, thanks so much for visiting our station to discuss
00:22about of course the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup.
00:25So my first question is of course for Sir Jaime.
00:27Sir Jaime, it was on October 4th when FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that
00:33the Philippines will be hosting this inaugural FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup.
00:37But can you please take us back on the process on why did FIFA chose the Philippines to be
00:42the host of this inaugural tournament?
00:44Well, as you mentioned, it was the FIFA Council that decided to host it to the Philippines.
00:49And it was based first of all on the interest of the Federation because they submitted their
00:54interest and together with other candidates.
00:57And there was a review done by our division about the various candidates that were hosting it.
01:03And one of the things that really caught our attention was the good project from the Federation
01:08and the strong support from the government to the World Cup.
01:11That was really something that caught our eye.
01:15And we also heard about the good programs that the Federation and the government had
01:20to include futsal in schools.
01:22And we have right now over 30,000 registered futsal players in the country.
01:27So it was really a good match I think for what we wanted to do.
01:32At the same time for us it was very important the legacy that we could leave in the country
01:37and the region.
01:38And we were completely aligned with the Federation in that sense.
01:41And I think a little bit all of these elements together is what convinced the FIFA Council
01:46to grant it to the Philippines.
01:49Sir Jaime, can you elaborate on the plans of FIFA to promote this inaugural all-women futsal?
01:56Well, there are many events that are going to happen.
01:59And obviously we count on all the media here in the Philippines and all over the world.
02:03There is also a lot of discussions with the Ministry of Tourism to spread the word all over the world
02:08in all the countries that are participating in the qualifiers.
02:11So there will be a lot of activities.
02:14Yesterday was a very good example with the brand identity and the logo launch that we did.
02:18We tried to attract the attention of the people with these elements and these activities.
02:23The good thing is that now we have a tool which is the logo and the brand identity
02:27to really publish and do further activities.
02:31So I think we are going to increase obviously our presence in the media
02:36and all the activities to promote the tournament not only in the Philippines
02:40but in Southeast Asia as well as all over the world.
02:43Alright, let's proceed to our LOC.
02:45Sir Eddie, we have about 8 to 9 months before the start of this tournament.
02:49How are our preparations? How is the stadium?
02:52And of course, the reception here in the worldwide futsal community.
02:57Well, the preparation started since June of 2024.
03:01So we've been quite engrossed already in terms of the preparations.
03:06With 8 to 9 months, we are happy to say that we are on schedule
03:10and a lot of things are falling into place.
03:13I can't say it was a smooth ride but there are a lot of challenges
03:17especially with dealing with the local government.
03:21But of course, when we communicated our mission and vision for FIFA Women's Futsal,
03:29they are totally on board and have expressed their full support to us.
03:34So I think right now, it's just a matter of making sure that all the stars are aligned
03:41and make sure that as we head into November, we will be full out prepared.
03:47How is the status of our stadiums?
03:50Especially, we have two stadiums for this tournament.
03:52There's the Fieldsports Arena in Pasig and the Victoria's in Negros Occidental.
03:56So how is the status of both stadiums?
03:58Right now, Fieldsports, let's talk about Fieldsports first.
04:02Of course, it's being used for other sports as well.
04:05We actually also organized a recent futsal tournament just late last year.
04:12But there's a lot of work to be done.
04:14Of course, we wanted to make sure that they are within FIFA standards
04:19and I think this is achievable.
04:21Together with the Philippine Sports Commission, with Chairman Dicky Bachman,
04:26we're going to make sure that we will show the world that our venue is top class
04:33and of course, making sure that it's futsal compliant.
04:37Of course, we're a basketball country, but I think for this one, we will be able to achieve it.
04:42As for Victoria's, we have the full support of the local government, right?
04:46With Mayor Javi Benitez.
04:48We visited the stadium last month and we see that there are a lot of things that need to be done.
04:56But they are excited, we are excited.
04:59They are willing to invest their time and effort and money
05:05to make sure that it becomes a world-class venue as well.
05:08All right.
05:09Let's go to Ma'am Kyra.
05:11Ma'am, of course, this month we are celebrating the International Women's Month.
05:15What is our reaction to this?
05:17We have this inaugural all-women futsal and are we going to conduct football clinics?
05:24So, this World Cup being here today, it's really a long time coming.
05:30So, last night, our President was also talking about it.
05:32It's not something that we just decided on last year, although the announcement was last year.
05:37This has been a long time coming.
05:39And again, echoing on Relly's points, the stars are aligned.
05:44So, us with the Federation are very aligned with FIFA in promoting this sport
05:49because not only will this enable players to go further,
05:54but it will also create pathways, for example, for referees, for management, for coaches.
05:59So, it's not just a one-thing event.
06:03We want this event to be a legacy.
06:06We want to reach ripples of change for it and for generations to come
06:10that we will be able to really create those opportunities,
06:13not just even for women, but for all genders of this sport.
06:17Yes, ma'am, you mentioned that we are also athletes.
06:20Yes.
06:21So, how do you feel that we, the all-women's team, will be the ones to lead this march?
06:29Yes. So, I am a football player, but futsal has been growing very fast in the last few years in this country
06:37and even in the whole world.
06:38So, now that we already have the all-women's futsal event,
06:42then it pushes us to really see that this sport is not just, quote-unquote, for men,
06:48but it's as equally as exciting and maybe even more.
06:53We don't know, but we'll know.
06:55Wow.
06:56This World Cup.
06:57In Tagalog, lumalaban ang mga babae.
06:59Yes.
07:00And this is the perfect opportunity for women to really show the skills that we have
07:04and how the sport can really push forward women empowerment and just how women play.
07:11Wow.
07:12Sir Jaime, now let's talk about the format of this tournament.
07:15As of today, there are two qualified teams, New Zealand and the Philippines, as those countries.
07:20What's the tournament format?
07:22And, of course, when can we expect the 16 teams to be completed before this inaugural Futsal Women's World Cup?
07:28Well, it's 16 teams from all over the world.
07:31And, as you said, only OFC, Oceania, has concluded the qualification.
07:36New Zealand is qualified as well as Philippines.
07:38The UEFA qualification started right now, and by the end of May, we should know all the countries.
07:43It's four from UEFA, three from Asia, three from South America, two from Africa,
07:51and two more from CONCACAF, so the region of North Central America.
07:57And they will be divided into four groups of four, and two groups will be then probably in Victoria,
08:03and two groups will be in Pasig here in Manila.
08:06We have 77, as I said before, teams competing to be part of this tournament, which is amazing.
08:13It really shows the growth of the game, of the futsal girls playing all over the world,
08:19and we are really excited because we know that the best teams will come to play in the Philippines.
08:24So, we are really looking forward to it.
08:27Prime Minister, are you already scheduled for the official draw, or not yet?
08:31Yes, we are doing it in September, on the 15th of September, so I'm hoping that everybody will be very excited.
08:38By that time, we will know the teams, we will know which will be the teams competing against the Philippines,
08:44and also in which city will they be playing.
08:46So, it's going to be a very, very important milestone for us.
08:50The teams will come also on the occasion of the draw, so the 60 teams will be here,
08:55we'll have the chance to talk to the media, we'll have the chance to visit the facilities, the hotels,
09:00get to know a little bit of the country, and when they get back home,
09:04then tell their fans how good the Philippines is so they can come for the tournament.
09:08We are looking forward to that.
09:10That's beautiful.
09:12We are looking forward to that.
09:14But of course, Sir Jaime, do we have another tournament aside from this All Women's Sports?
09:21All Women's Futsal World Cup, yeah.
09:23Another tournament, you mean what?
09:25I mean other tournaments.
09:26After this FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup, are there any upcoming tournaments for FIFA besides futsal, football, and of course the other sports?
09:37This year?
09:38Yeah.
09:40Oh yes, I have the Beach Soccer World Cup right now, then I have the Club World Cup in the US,
09:45then I have the U20 men's in Chile, then I have the U17 girls in Morocco,
09:51then I have the U17 boys in Qatar, then I have this one, and then I have the Intercontinental Cup,
10:01and then I have the Arab Cup, so it's a busy year.
10:03But for me, this is the most important tournament of the year because it's the first ever.
10:09There's never been a FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup before.
10:12We are very excited, all of us.
10:14I think we match with the Philippines the right place to do it,
10:17and we are really looking forward to this tournament because we are going to see now, live, all of us,
10:23I've seen them, but the rest of the world can see it now,
10:26how good the girls play futsal and how good these technical skills, this fit,
10:30is really fitted for the way the women play the game.
10:35So it's very exciting to see the big names of the world like Spain, like Brazil, like Portugal, like Japan, like Iran.
10:43All over the world.
10:46All over the world.
10:47So I just want to ask, the PFF has been very busy for the past few months to prepare for this prestigious tournament,
10:54how would you assess the way that PFF handles the preparation of this inaugural FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup?
11:00Well, first of all, as always, the Federation appoints a local organizing committee,
11:05which shall be comprised of very professional people,
11:08and we are really very happy with how things are developing.
11:11We have an extremely professional team, they've been doing an amazing job,
11:16and they're also making the right decisions by appointing the right agency,
11:20so we are really very confident that this tournament will go very well,
11:24because the preparation, the knowledge, and the professionalism of the Federation
11:30and the local organizing committee has been outstanding until now.
11:34Alright, thank you very much, sirs and ma'am.
11:37Of course, if you have any message, invite us.
11:39Yes, please invite all the futsal fans all over the world to come here to the Philippines
11:43to watch the inaugural Futsal Women's World Cup, and please tell them to watch live.
11:48It is very important that the fans are watching the games live,
11:51so can you please invite futsal fans all over the world to come here and watch the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup?
11:56Well, it's not only to the Filipino fans that are here, enjoy.
12:01This is the first time that the Philippines will host a World Cup,
12:04and it's a very historic World Cup because it's the first ever FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup.
12:09And to the rest of the world, come and enjoy.
12:12Beautiful Philippines, very hospitable people, nice facilities.
12:17It's a country for holidays, and now you can combine both things,
12:22coming to see the World Cup as well as enjoying the beautiful place in the Philippines.
12:27Sir?
12:28Yes, and I'd like to mention, of course, that not calling out not just our Filipino fans in Manila or in Negros,
12:38but all over the country to come and support and show the world that we are really the place or a venue for international events.
12:49So let's make the country proud, and see you in November.
12:53Alright, the last one. Ms. Kaya, go ahead.
12:56So, ladies and gentlemen, thank you again for your time.
12:59And yes, we have countries that will come here to fight, to become world champions,
13:05and we are one of those who will fight to become world champions.
13:09That's why we invite you to watch the Futsal World Cup this November.
13:14Alright, again, thank you so much.
13:16Sir Jaime Yarsa, Ms. Kaya Radimandal, and of course, our ladies and gentlemen for visiting our show,
13:20and good luck for the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup, and have a great day.
13:24Thank you. Salamat.
