00:00The Department of Agriculture plans to put the maximum suggested retail price of garlic because its price is high at the moment.
00:09How much is the price of a kilo of garlic in the markets at the moment?
00:13Vell Custodio of PTV Live has the news.
00:19Now, the Department of Agriculture is investigating the reason behind the high price of imported garlic in the market.
00:26Here in Mega Q Mart, you can buy a kilo of garlic for Php 160 because it costs Php 140 to get the retailers here.
00:40The DA is considering putting the maximum suggested retail price of garlic to avoid the possible abuse of its price.
00:48According to the sellers here in Mega Q Mart, since the last quarter of 2024, the price of garlic is not decreasing.
00:56Because the retail price of imported garlic has almost doubled, its landed cost is only Php 80 per kilo.
01:02According to the DA, Secretary Francisco T. Laurel Jr. said that the market price of garlic should be Php 100 to Php 110.
01:12That's why the DA will ask the garlic importers to see where the problem is.
01:1795% of the supply of garlic in the market is imported.
01:21Because of the small production of garlic here due to the climate of the country.
01:27That's why the mechanism is being studied to increase the production of local garlic variety.
01:33According to the DA, it's better if the price of imported garlic can be lowered so that the MSRP does not need to be increased.
01:42There is a discount for the retailer we interviewed to save money.
01:48We are buying the garlic without the skin. That's the cheapest price.
01:53Sometimes, it's Php 30 or Php 1.5.
01:57If possible, the price should be lowered.
02:02Because I'm used to the small kitchen in the retailer.
02:12Aside from garlic, the DA is also monitoring the price of eggs in the market.
02:18For now, Php 8 is left for a medium-sized egg.
02:21For the traffic in front of Mega Q Mart, the traffic line is still wide on both sides of the road here in EDSA.
02:31While the line of passengers in EDSA Bus Carousel Station is still long.
02:38From People's Television Network, Vel Custodio, Balitang Pampansa.
02:43Thank you, Vel Custodio of PTV.
