00:00After decades of stillness, the house at No. 7 German Street in Liverpool

00:05will once again be filled with the joy, warmth and excitement the Raya festivities bring.

00:10Since 1962, the house had been a bustling home away from home

00:15for hundreds of Malay sailors who arrived in Liverpool

00:18until it was closed in 2004 due to its deteriorating condition.

00:22That changed seven years ago when former sailor Jantan Lisot set out to restore the house.

00:52He also felt that ties among the Malaysian community had weakened,

01:12leading to two former Muslim sailors being cremated contrary to Islamic rights

01:17as their remains were unclaimed by next of kin.

01:22So at nearly 70 years old, Jantan, who hails from Melaka,

01:36started repairing and cleaning the house with the help of kind-hearted Malaysians in the area.

01:41And with a £25,000 grant from Liverpool City Council and generous community donations,

01:49the house was brought back to life and officially reopened in January.

01:53It has since hosted Ramadan bazaars, Tarawih prayers and group Quran recitals in the lead-up to Hari Raya.

02:00This year, we will be able to sit inside the house and pray.

02:05Because we will be celebrating Raya and we will also have a feast.

02:11All of our family members will bring food.

02:18But beyond celebrations, Jantan worries about the future of the house.

02:23One day, I don't know what will happen to this house.

02:30This house is a freehold house.

02:33It means we can keep it forever.

02:36But if the people who own it don't care about it,

02:42or put themselves first,

02:46and don't keep their trust,

02:49this house will eventually be destroyed because of what has happened.

02:54As long as I live, God willing, I will try to run this house to unite us all.
