Painting can be straightforward if you follow the right steps. Here’s a simple guide on how to paint walls (interior or exterior):

---

Tools & Materials You'll Need:

Paint (latex or oil-based depending on the surface)

Paint roller and extension pole

Paintbrush (angled for edges/corners)

Paint tray

Drop cloths or plastic sheeting

Painter’s tape

Sandpaper (optional)

Putty/patching compound (for holes)

Ladder

Stir stick

Primer (if needed)

---

Step-by-Step Painting Guide:

1. Prep the Area

Move furniture out or cover with drop cloths.

Tape off edges: Use painter's tape around trim, outlets, and ceiling lines.

Protect floors with drop cloths or plastic.

2. Prepare the Surface

Clean the walls: Remove dust and grease.

Fill holes or cracks with putty and sand smooth.

Sand glossy surfaces lightly for better paint adhesion.

Prime if necessary: Especially on new drywall, stained areas, or major color changes.

3. Mix the Paint

Stir the paint thoroughly.

Pour some into a paint tray.

4. Cut In the Edges

Use an angled brush to cut in around edges (corners, ceiling, baseboards).

This gives you a clean border for rolling.

5. Roll the Paint

Use a roller for large areas.

Dip and roll in a W-pattern, then fill in the gaps. This avoids streaks and roller lines.

Do 1–2 coats depending on coverage.

6. Let It Dry

Follow the drying time on the paint can.

Apply a second coat if needed after the first is dry.

7. Clean Up

Remove painter’s tape carefully.

Wash brushes and rollers immediately if you plan to reuse them.

Dispose of or store leftover paint properly.
