Plastering is all about getting a smooth, solid finish on walls or ceilings. Here's a basic step-by-step guide for hand-applied plastering on interior walls:

---

Tools & Materials Needed:

Plaster (usually a bagged mix like gypsum)

Hawk and trowel

Bucket trowel

Mixing bucket

Electric drill with paddle mixer (optional)

Plasterers float

Jointing knife or taping knife

Sandpaper or sanding block

PVA glue (for bonding)

Clean water

Brushes or roller

---

Step-by-Step Plastering Guide:

1. Prepare the Surface

Clean the wall: Remove dust, flaking paint, loose plaster, nails, etc.

Apply PVA bonding agent: Mix 1 part PVA with 4 parts water. Roll it onto the wall. Wait until tacky before plastering (not fully dry).

2. Mix the Plaster

Pour clean water into a bucket first, then add plaster powder slowly.

Mix using a paddle mixer (or by hand with a trowel) to a thick, creamy consistency — no lumps.

3. First Coat (Base Coat)

Use the hawk and trowel: Load plaster onto the hawk, then scoop onto the wall with the trowel.

Apply from bottom left upward at a slight angle, spreading an even 2mm thick coat.

Work in small sections, and aim to cover the wall smoothly.

4. Flatten and Smooth

After about 10-15 minutes, go back over the wall and flatten ridges using a clean trowel.

Don't press too hard — just smooth it gently.

5. Second Coat (Finish Coat)

Apply a second, thinner coat
