00:09The death of a Unicorn star reflected on leaving the rebooted Scream franchise, in which she
00:13and Barrera starred as the Carpenter Sisters, in a cover story for The Cut published Monday.
00:18After Spyglass Media Group announced in November 2023 that Barrera had been fired from the
00:23forthcoming seventh installment for remarks she made about the Israel-Hamas war on Instagram,
00:28it was announced a day later that Ortega was departing the film as well.
00:31It was speculated her exit was due to either Barrera's firing or pay disputes.
00:35Now Ortega is explaining why she decided not to return.
00:38She said,
00:39"...it had nothing to do with pay or scheduling.
00:42The Melissa stuff was happening, and it was all kind of falling apart."
00:45The directors of Scream 6 had also exited the project, which Ortega pinpointed as a
00:50reason.
00:51She said,
00:52"...if Scream 7 wasn't going to be with that team of directors and those people I fell
00:55in love with, then it didn't seem like the right move for me and my career at the time."
01:00When talking about their respective exits at the time, Barrera had told The Hollywood

01:05"...she's been very supportive of me and we're sisters for life."
