With the glorious weather sticking around, I decided that there was no better time to sample Aldi's new orange-flavoured rose wine in the glorious sunshine to see whether it would be my refreshing beverage of choice this summer...

00:00Hi, my name is Jack Marshall. I'm a digital food and drink reporter and welcome to another one of our taste test videos.
00:06Now, some are a little different today. As you can see, this is glorious weather.
00:10This is unheard of in April in our kind of part of the world.
00:14And so we thought, let's make the most of it.
00:16And let's try something which is brand new, guaranteed to be perfect for this kind of weather.
00:20And that is this little bottle behind me.
00:22Now, this is something which I'd normally not really go for.
00:26It's a bottle of orange flavoured rose, which has been released by Aldi.
00:30They released it. Big fanfare is kind of like the perfect summery drink, guaranteed to be refreshing, fruity, citrusy, the kind of thing which you'd really go for on a date exactly like today.
00:41So I thought, right, grab myself a bottle, available for about a tenner, try it out in the perfect conditions.
00:47Let you know whether it's worth going for if the weather stays like this and if the weather continues to be as nice into the later spring and into summer as well.
00:55So, I'm going to have a bit of a pour.
00:57Not really a rosé man myself normally.
00:59I like a red wine.
01:00White wines are okay at times.
01:01Don't really go for a rosé, if I'm honest.
01:03So to be trying an orange rosé is something pretty far outside my comfort zone.
01:07But you've got to try these things in life, haven't you?
01:11So I've got a little glass now.
01:13As you can see from this, it's got a lovely, like, orange hue to it as well.
01:16It's got a really, really attractive bottle.
01:18So it is on the listing, listed towards more of, like, the drier side of things.
01:23I do prefer, like, a drier white than a sweeter white.
01:26So something, hopefully, which I'm going to enjoy.
01:28Pop that down there and have a bash.
01:32Smells good.

01:39Very orangey.
01:40That's immediately coming through.
01:42It's got the classic white wine flavour, but like a hint of sweetness underneath it as well, coming from the orange, which is good.
01:49Smells a lot like white wine, which I suppose rosé tends to do.
01:52Not really getting much of the orange through the smell, but...
01:57I'm doing that wine tasting thing where I'm swilling it around my mouth, even though I have no idea when it actually comes to actual wine tasting, but...
02:06Very nice.
02:07Very different.
02:07The orange flavour kicks in a lot later in the palate.
02:19Hits the back of your tongue, back of your mouth.
02:21The front of your tongue is just sweetness and a bit of that dryness.
02:26It tells you more white wine, but...
02:28After having a couple of sips there, right now on my mouth is, like, orange, orange peel, citrus.
02:33So that's definitely where it's coming through, rather than at the front of the sip, you know, immediately.
02:36You're getting, like, really heavy orange flavour.
02:39Obviously, it's not a point of comparison, but if you had, like, an orange squash and orange juice, it's just immediate orange, orange, orange.
02:43Whereas this is a lot more subtle, this is a lot more understated, which is quite a nice touch.
02:49I think it, on a lovely day like this, when it's really warm out, something like that is definitely something I'd go for.
02:54Just because, when it's nice and chilled, nice and cold, it's got that citrus flavour, it's got that sweetness, it's got that slight dryness, which is a classic of white wines and roses.
03:03I mean, you can't go far wrong with something like that.
03:05So, yeah.
