02:25here at the Bahrain International Circuit
02:28over the years in Formula 2 races.
02:30Circuit conditions actually
02:31a little cooler than we've experienced this weekend
02:33so far. Air temperature
02:35a chilly 29 degrees
02:37compared to what they've been used to in practice and qualifying.
02:40Track temperature a pretty much
02:42arctic 36.5 degrees
02:44which is again about 15 degrees
02:46lower than we've seen at points this weekend
02:47which will certainly help those
02:49soft Ferrelli tires that most of these drivers
02:51will be using including this man here
02:53Richard Vershaw going off the second row those red
02:55Ferrelli tires. The red rule soft
02:57tires, the white are the hard tires
02:59and we expect them to be on soft tires
03:01for this one taking us all the way. No compulsory
03:04pitstops. No compulsory pitstops in
03:05this one. The softer tire having a better
03:07overall grip than the
03:10harder tire but in theory the harder
03:11tires should be able to last a little longer. We saw
03:13some alternative strategies last year some
03:15taking the hard tire but generally soft tire
03:17was favoured. Yeah it was the top
03:19five who finished with the soft tire
03:21taking them to the end last year.
03:23Okay, here is the starting grid. Let's go from
03:26back to front. Amari Cordill
03:27is alongside Kian Shields
03:29on the back row of the grid.
03:31Starting in 20th, Kushmine
03:33he was quickest in qualifying here last year
03:35so out of position.
03:36Ritomo Miata had his best qualifying
03:38here last year. They're on row 10.
03:40Sebastian Montoya celebrated his birthday here
03:42but not with a good qualifying sadly. He is on row nine with Max Esterson. Arvid Lindblad won the F3 sprint race last year but will have a tough job to repeat that in F2. He's alongside Oli Goethe. Jack Crawford top returning seed down on row seven though. Slow start to the season continuing. He's alongside John Bennett. Gabriele Mini favoured by many to do well this season. He was quickest in qualifying at round one. He's alongside Pepe Marti.
03:57Leo Fornaroli and Victor Martins. That will be our front row for tomorrow. Let's see how they can do from the fifth row today. Luke Browning was very pleased with third place in qualifying. He's alongside Alex Dunn, the McLaren Jr. alongside the Williams Jr.
04:10Then it is Roman Stanek and Richard Vashor. The only driver who can say he has won an F2 race here at Bahrain. Sammy Megatun if he is on row two with Rafael Villegomez in the top 10 in qualifying in Formula 2 for the first time.
04:37And then we have on row one Dino Beganovic who is out in FP1 for Ferrari. And alongside him Joshua Dirksen looking to do three in a row in F2 for the first time. And leading the championship for AIX Racing for the first time. The grid is set. The scene is set. Piers Pryor. It's all going to be about managing those soft tyres.
04:58Absolutely. The abrasive tarmac here at Bahrain's international circuit really rips these Pirelli tyres apart. And what with the higher track temperatures that we experience here. It's all about getting those Pirelli tyres to the end of the race. At least some sort of workable condition.
05:14It was oh so close in qualifying. I spoke to Max Esterson yesterday and he was very disappointed considering he was down in 17th place.
05:22But if he'd have been two tenths faster he'd be lining up alongside the driver in 9th place Dino Beganovic. And potentially getting that reverse grid. So that's how close it is in the mid pack.
05:32It was Fornaroli that was in a classroom zone at the front of the field. Closely followed by Martins. But yeah. Oh so close. So basically tyre management and race craft are going to be the difference today. Especially from about third, fourth, fifth downwards.
05:45And it meant some big names missed out. We talked about Gabriele Mini out of that top ten. Jack Crawford out of that top ten as well. Two big names missing out. We watch for them to come through the field in this one.
05:59But there were some great performances higher up the field. Raphael Villegomez in the top ten for the first time. Putting him third on the grid overall. And we caught up with the top three after qualifying yesterday.
06:13Let's start by hearing from third place on the grid. Raphael Villegomez.
06:19Starting P3. You always have to aim for the win. So that's the mindset for tomorrow.
06:25We did a lot of laps during the test. We did a lot of long runs. We know the pace is strong. So yeah. Comfortable. I'm confident for tomorrow.
06:36Obviously having a good start is my main focus right now. And then let's see how the strategy is around the grid. Obviously the options seem to be very strong out there.
06:47So let's see. It will be an exciting race I think. Driving in the kind of evening when the sun goes down as well. So yeah. Really looking forward to starting P2 tomorrow. And then try to maximize obviously. And take the points available on the table.
07:02Having clean air and being first on the first corner. And then in the first laps. This is really helpful. Because like this of course you can manage the race. You can dictate the pace. And yeah. Just control a bit better your tire management. You know. Because also if you are behind the cars. Of course with the dirty air. With the hot air coming out of the cars. You're also overheating more your tires. Even doing on the same pace than the others. You know. But still just. Just because of being behind a car. You're overheating more than the guy that has clean air.
07:32The driver speaking to us after qualifying yesterday. Final thoughts fears as we get ready to go here at Bahrain for this 23 lap sprint race. Three DRS zones around here. Plenty of overtaking in previous seasons. And a hefty headwind. Down towards turn number one. Should see plenty of DRS overtaking opportunities. I'm looking forward to this one. And this Mandinovich has got a clear sight down to the inside of turn one. And he'll be looking to use that clear sight to take the lead off the first corner. But Dirksen will be trying to fend him off.
08:02Well this. We are getting ready to go. It's round two of the season. This the FIA Formula 2 sprint race. Our first of two races. We have reversed the top ten after qualifying. Points will be given to the top eight. Ten going to the winner. Eight to second. Six to third place. And we go down to one point for eighth place.
08:32All set. 22 drivers in position. Ready to go racing for 23 laps to the left of screen. Dino Viganovic to the right of screen. Joshua Dirksen. We are go in Bahrain for the sprint race. Someone slow moving away. A little bit further back. Which was Luke Browning. But Joshua Dirksen leads us down to the first corner.
09:02Out of turns two and three. As they make their way down to turn four. Yellow flags are out for a stricken car in the top of picture. But Josh Dirksen. It is in the lead. Dino Viganovic. It is in second. Villa Gomez third. We can say that with certainty. As they come through turn four. For the first time.
09:21An ideal start for Dirksen from the front of the field. He did brilliantly to get away. And has managed to gap the front of the field ever so slightly. And just getting confirmation that that was Martins in the Williams Academy liveried car. As the other Williams car of Browning looks up the inside of turn eight. Very, very tight here. Three wide on the exit of turn eight. Gabriele Milley looking to gain an advantage. But it all got very tight. And the braking zone of turn one. And Martins came off worse. He had front wing damage. And we expect to see him in the pits at the end of this first lap.
09:48Victor Martins falling down the field after that. Off down at turn one where he was off. Oh no. Sebastian Montoya. He's got the Mumbai Falcons livery on this weekend. And he is facing the wrong way. So something has happened. Meanwhile we jump on board with his Prima Racing teammate Gabriele Mini ahead of us. We've got one of the Red Bull Juniors which is Arvid Lindblad. They're trying to go around the outside to take positions on one of the dams. Lucas Oil car.
10:18So Arvid Lindblad trying to fight his way up the order. They're fighting away with Jack Crawford there. As they come down towards the final two corners. It's Dirksen ahead of Beganovic.
10:30Villegomez is still in third place. Crawford trying to make positions as they come out of the final corner. One of the polished iron boards you can see.
10:39That's where we had the incident for Victor Martins. But Josh Dirksen takes us into the braking zone at turn one. And they're just trying to move out in avoidance. The safety car boards are out to the right hand side of screen.
10:52And we have all the drivers slowing there to come down to pace. They have been notified that the safety car is out. And that is because Sebastian Montoya has come to a stop on the circuit.
11:07And there we have Victor Martins in pit lane. This is good news for Victor Martins. He was shuffled out to the edge of the circuit down towards turn one on the first lap.
11:16He's bottomed out on the serrated kerb on the outside. And we saw him dramatically burst through the bollards. Which took out his front wing.
11:24Montoya is of course stricken on the circuit. So he probably won't be finishing this race. He's out of the car. So no harm done to him.
11:31Potentially a little bit of... I can't really see any damage on that car. So I'm not entirely sure what's happened as of yet.
11:40He's on the inside of the exit of turn eight. So he's likely to have spun. Let's have a look at the start again.
11:45Poor start on the right-hand side for the blue car of Browning there. The high-tech car. Getting swallowed up in the middle.
11:50Let's keep an eye on the outside of the circuit for the other blue car. There he is. Martins. Yes, it was. I think it was done.
11:57Yeah, I think it was done. It just didn't see Martins coming on the outside and squeezed him wide.
12:03Great start from Dirksen from the front row with the green highlights.
12:06Boganovich slotting in second place. And we've got a reverse angle. Yeah, it's just done.
12:10I think he was just looking to the inside with three or four cars on the right. And then Martin's a bit overly optimistic, in my opinion.
12:16I think he was going into a gap that was almost certainly going to close. So as much as that wasn't his fault...
12:23Oh, actually, no, I'm wrong. You can see Dunn actually look in the mirrors, in which case that's a little cheeky.
12:28Oh, actually, I say that. The Trident car of 22 was squeezing him. I think it's a case of four and one to one doesn't go.
12:34Yeah, I think, likewise, Megatunif was coming across as well, wasn't he? That is Sebastian Montoya getting out of the car and walking away.
12:45And this is another view of that incident at Turn 1. An unfortunate incident for Victor Martins.
12:52But he will be on the front row for tomorrow. Let's find out what happened to Montoya then.
12:55Montoya just out of shot on the right-hand side. But he ends up on the inside here.
12:58Ah, so he's got either spun around or got spun around. Potentially contact with Anne-Marie Cordille.
13:04And then the car, I think, potentially just stalled there. And with these F2 cars, they're not able to start themselves off.
13:11And especially when they're hot.
13:13It looked like Cordille may have been trying to get down the inside. That's a shame.
13:19So safety car is out. And Esterson has just come in the pit. So he's got damage to the front wing, it appears.
13:28Yeah, Esterson, it's not ideal to pit the second lap of the safety car because it's actually unlikely that he's going to be able to catch the back unless we go for one more safety car lap.
13:36And now Esterson, unfortunately, a bit eager to get away and dump in the clutch a bit aggressively, meaning that the team are having to manually get the starter, the external starter on.
13:49Sounds like it's going again. Careful this time, Max.
13:53Right, OK. So Max Esterson is back out.
13:59And he said, oh, any front wing damage has now been repaired and that gives us a chance to just catch our breath back and look back at that order.
14:08So Josh Dirksen is leading from Dino Viganovic, Rafael Villegomez, Richard for sure.
14:14There is Sebastian Montoya's car being recovered.
14:17Alex Dunn is fifth.
14:19Pepe Marti has gained five places at the start of this race.
14:22He's in P6. He's the first of the Red Bull Juniors.
14:25Roman Stanek is in seventh.
14:26Sammy Megatunib has dropped four places, but he is still in the points.
14:30He's still in the fight.
14:32John Bennett's made a great start to this race.
14:33He's up four places to P9.
14:35And then we have Luke Browning.
14:37And here come the marshals to just get the track in a safe condition.
14:42And we always thank the marshals for the work they do to allow us to go racing everywhere we go.
14:48And at this moment, all the cars will use the shortcut at Turn 1 while this work is going on.
14:52Looks like marshals and circuit staff, really quick work there from them.
14:55Great job.
14:55But I was actually wondering whether they were going to leave the circuit.
15:00Because often they don't have polystyrene marker boards ready to go at some circuits.
15:05And that can make actually breaking down to a big stop like that quite tricky.
15:09A lot of these drivers using their peripheral vision and their marker boards at the side of the circuit.
15:14But in front, after the restart, will be Dune.
15:17So remember that he's quite aggressive on fights, okay?
15:19Yeah, yeah.
15:21I know him discussing, so I know how he races.
15:24Interesting to hear there that they, I think Marty records Alex Dunn's a feisty one on circuit.
15:31I've seen Alex Dunn race in domestic series here in the UK before, can confirm that.
15:35But the fact that the team are wary of that, you know, the teams are very much on top of tactics as well as the drivers.
15:43Well, the incident between Dunn and Martins has been noted for causing a collision.
15:47Yeah, noted I think fairly.
15:49I think it's worth having a look at.
15:50But from the little thing that we saw there, it looked like Dunn was actually just avoiding collision on the inside.
15:56Let's have a look at the start again.
15:59Maybe this is, we can take a closer look at this Dunn incident.
16:01So look at the orange, there's the blue car on the left.
16:04Dunn's squeezing him.
16:05Actually, to be fair to Dunn, he did initially start squeezing Martins.
16:09But then Megatuniv decided that he was going to take the space that Dunn vacated.
16:13And then that kind of forced Dunn to take evasive action.
16:17At this point it was all Dunn, but then Megatuniv comes across.
16:19And that last little jink is what caused Martins to take off the circuit and onto the bollards.
16:24I have to move to avoid Sammy.
16:28Confirmation there from Dunn.
16:29And I think he'll probably, I hope the race direction stewards, of course, will take that into account.
16:34They have so many camera angles, way more than we have in this commentary box right now.
16:38So I'm just putting my opinion on it right now.
16:40And then we have views of that Marshall's doing an excellent job collecting all that debris
16:44so that there's nothing on circuit when we go racing again.
16:47But I was touching on those bollards being removed.
16:50Good job, guys.
16:52Yeah, happy with their work.
16:53And we're happy with your work.
16:54Thank you very much.
16:55We always do appreciate it.
16:57Okay.
16:58Well, we go back to these live pictures then.
17:02And this will certainly help.
17:05One thing we haven't talked about is laps behind the safety car means less wear on the tyres.
17:10And it's all about tyre management in this race.
17:13And that will be another key factor tomorrow, of course.
17:16The drivers that are new to the championship this season will be slightly helped, in my opinion,
17:23by the fact that we're under safety car for a two-lapse here.
17:25Because the more experienced drivers who were here last year will have experienced the tyre degradation
17:31and potentially more aware of how to drive these tyres to get to the end.
17:35But the safety car sort of limits that a little bit.
17:37Slightly nullified by the fact that we had some in-season testing here a few days ago,
17:41meaning that everyone's had some long-run experience.
17:44But safety car lights are out.
17:46So we are going racing this time by.
17:49Joshua Dirksen will now be planning that restart.
17:54Dino Viganovic right behind him as well.
17:57And it's all going to be about the run down towards the first corner.
18:01A little bit of a lockout there from one of the drivers.
18:04But we are about to resume racing here at the Bahrain International Circuit.
18:08And Joshua Dirksen gets his foot down into the penultimate corner.
18:12We are back underway and racing here at Bahrain for the sprint race of round two in FIA Formula 2.
18:20On to lap five we go.
18:22And Joshua Dirksen has a lead of just under seven-tenths of a second.
18:26In the background, Roman Stanek there trying to get on the move
18:30as Alex Dunn goes down the inside of Richard Pashaw, the orange MP there,
18:36having to go all the way around the outside,
18:38uses all the available circuits to hold on to that fourth place.
18:42Pepe Marti has seen a gap on the inside there of Alex Dunn.
18:46He did tell us he was going to get on the move.
18:48Is he now going to complete that move through turn four?
18:52Alex Dunn in the papaya there side by side with Richard Pashaw and Pepe Marti
18:58as they exited the corner.
18:59And it looks like they've just about stayed in the same order.
19:02Yeah, the Campos Racing team predicting excellently what Dunn was going to do there.
19:06He was going to get his elbows out from the start
19:08as we got two-by-two action further down the field into turn number eight.
19:12But Dunn attempted a move, a late move, down into turn one.
19:15Couldn't quite get it done.
19:16Now Marti's on the back of Dunn.
19:18But I think that was good tactical foresight from the Campos team.
19:21Unfortunately, Marti wasn't able to take advantage that time.
19:25But a perfect safety car restart from our leader, Dirksen.
19:28DRS will be able, will be available next time.
19:32So it's crucial to stay in that DRS for Dino Beganovic.
19:35He's almost at risk of losing it.
19:37We ride on board with the road and motorsport driver Alex Dunn.
19:42We're looking back at Pepe Marti, the Red Bull junior, into turn 13.
19:47We go just behind that is Williams Academy driver Luke Browning.
19:52Then it's Sammy Megatuna Vinay.
19:53Yeah, we're hearing a big lift from Dunn to the middle of turn number 12, the uphill.
19:58Flat out and qualifying right-hander, but definitely not flat out in the race.
20:01And that's purely because these drivers are already thinking about saving their tyres.
20:06They're just cashing in some tyre management chips at this stage of the race
20:10while trying to maintain track position.
20:14Speaking to a few of the drivers before the weekend,
20:16they were expecting race pace in terms of lap times
20:18to be somewhere between six and nine seconds slower than qualifying.
20:22is now Pepe Marti looking around the outside of turn one.
20:25He's gone from being the opportunist to applying the pressure to the back of Dunn.
20:29And Dunn's dropped quite aggressively off the back of Bershaw now.
20:33Dunn at risk of losing DRS.
20:34Whoa, but Pepe Marti off the circuit there as Dunn went on the defensive.
20:39And Pepe Marti has gone through, but did go off the circuit in doing so.
20:44Will that be something that is looked at?
20:46Pepe Marti has gone through into fifth place.
20:49Yes, Marty, from my eyes, definitely left the circuit to complete that manoeuvre,
20:53taking advantage of the concrete runoff.
20:55If that was gravel or grass, he wouldn't have been able to complete that move.
20:59Dunn, I'm almost certain, will be on the radio to the team, his Rodin team,
21:03saying that Marty overtook me off the circuit.
21:06Let's have a look at that again.
21:07Yeah, four wheels over the white line there.
21:09Here we go.
21:10Yeah, it's a field track.
21:10Good spot there, Alex.
21:15Although, you put yourself in Campos or Marty's shoes,
21:18you're going to say, well, Dunn forced me off circuit.
21:20So, it's the race directors and stewards' opportunity,
21:25or their job to have a look at that from all the available angles
21:27and decide who was mostly at fault.
21:30It's under investigation.
21:31It looks like they'll go over it in the next couple of laps.
21:34We've just seen that also one incident involving Dunn and...
21:39We've got the incident for Montoya and Cordill under investigation.
21:45Stanek and Lindblad have been noted as well.
21:48Down to the final corners we go.
21:52We will see if anything more happens of that.
21:54We'll keep an eye on the race control notes coming in
21:58as they head down towards the first corner.
22:00Dunn is now having to look at his mirrors once again.
22:03This time, it is Luke Browning that is in behind him.
22:06We ride on board with the McLaren back driver,
22:10and Luke Browning, it is, closing in under brakes
22:13as they come in towards the first corner.
22:17Good pace for Browning yesterday, third in qualifying,
22:19and Browning recovering from his poor start.
22:22But Dunn's been in a lot of drama this race,
22:24of course, involved in that incident with Victor Martens
22:27at the start of the race,
22:28but we've just seen coming through no further investigation
22:33for that incident, so they clearly thought that
22:35Samy Megatuneth was coming across on Dunn.
22:39It wasn't wholly Dunn's fault.
22:40Although, 10-second penalty come in for Cordill
22:43for causing a collision.
22:44That'll be with the car we saw stopped on the first lap.
22:47Yeah, so that was Sebastian Montoya,
22:50the incident that happened there.
22:51OK, that is confirmation at the top of your screen
22:55that Amarie Cordill has been given a time penalty,
22:59and that was for the incident on Sebastian Montoya.
23:02OK, this is a little bit of a look back at the overtake.
23:08We saw Dunn trying to go for on Richard Vashor.
23:12Vashor going all the way around the outsiders.
23:14Do you know what?
23:14That was actually very good defensive driving
23:16from Vashor there.
23:17We're running on board with Rafael Villagomez.
23:21Let's see what happens down into Turn 1 in this restart.
23:24So a jink to the inside for Vashor.
23:27Opens the door for Dunn as he sees in there,
23:29but he just about stays alongside enough
23:32to claim the apex of Turn 2,
23:34which then puts Dunn on the back foot onto that second straight.
23:39Coming from a long way back, actually, Dunn.
23:40He clearly premeditated that move.
23:43To be fair to him, makes the apex,
23:44gives him a squeeze,
23:47but then, of course, that hampers his exit,
23:50and that's what started the Marty and Dunn fight
23:52that carried on for the second half of that reopening lap.
23:56And as you mentioned, there's no further investigation
23:59for the first corner incident between himself and Victor Martin.
24:04So that one we can put to bed.
24:07Okay, down to Turn 4.
24:09Dirksen leading Beganovic, leading Villagomez,
24:12who's driving a fabulous race, I have to say.
24:15Denvershaw, Dunn, defending from Pepe Marti,
24:19who I believe has given that place back
24:21as they now come out of Turn 4.
24:25And we have this fight continuing now once again.
24:28Yeah, we didn't see how those places were returned,
24:30but I'm assuming that Campos probably watched
24:32the same replays that we saw and decided
24:34that it would be better for Pepe Marti's race
24:37to relinquish that place to Marti.
24:40Oh, so that's the Turn 3 and 4 incident noted.
24:42So it was noted.
24:43So I imagine, under instruction,
24:46those places have been swapped back around.
24:48Yeah, but I think considering we haven't seen
24:51any notes from race control other than the noting,
24:54it looks like it's sorted itself out.
24:56So here we are with Dunn.
24:57Is it we're going to see Marti just pop out
25:00and let Dunn through at this stage?
25:04No, it looks like Dunn actually made a move.
25:06Yeah, he did.
25:07He went back up the inside of Turn 1.
25:08Brilliant move.
25:08A slight lockup on the way into the corner.
25:10So actually, Marti may still be under investigation
25:15for overtaking off the circuit.
25:16This is subsequently to Dunn,
25:18retaking that position.
25:19Good move.
25:20Great move then from Alex Dunn.
25:22It looks like it was Dunn all on his own will
25:24whilst we were looking at those other replays.
25:27Alex Dunn is back through into fifth place
25:31and through the final two corners they come
25:34and on to the start finish straight.
25:36So this battle continues then as it does out front.
25:40Remember, DRS, you have to be within a second.
25:42Dino Biganovic is within that second
25:45and well within a second is Luke Browning
25:47as they go in towards the first corner.
25:50Dives to the outside on the brakes
25:51of Pepe Marti.
25:53Can he make it through?
25:55Not quite, but he's got the run now
25:57down to Turn 4.
25:58Let's see if he can do it there
25:59right behind Pepe Marti.
26:02We're not even halfway through this race yet.
26:04Still a long way to go
26:05and Luke Browning is going to try
26:07and make his move around the outside
26:09down at Turn 4.
26:10Is he going to get the cutback
26:12on the exit of Pepe Marti?
26:14They'll take us up through 5, 6 and 7
26:17but not able to get through on this lap.
26:19Great racing between the peps.
26:20Yeah, so this middle group
26:22of the top 10 here
26:23I think it is actually Browning
26:24in that blue number 7
26:25that we're seeing
26:26for high-tech TGR
26:28with the Williams livery.
26:30He's probably the one
26:30that's got the most pace at this stage.
26:32He's able to stay right under
26:33the rear wing of Marti
26:35even through the middle sector
26:36although actually he's fallen away
26:37ever so slightly
26:38through Turn 6 and 7
26:39as we go through Turn 10 now
26:42but that lead group
26:43is turning into a bit of a group of four
26:45and then because Dunn has lost
26:46that DRS advantage from Vashore
26:50they're falling away ever so slightly.
26:52Sami Megatunov just holding on
26:54the coattails of that group there
26:56the last points playing position
26:57with Lindblad two and a half seconds back
26:59he needs to bridge that gap
27:00if he wants to get a point
27:01in this one.
27:02This looking further back down the field
27:05that is Max Esterson
27:06who has been through pit lane
27:08meanwhile up ahead
27:10Dino Meganovic is closing in
27:12on Joshua Dirksen
27:13the gap was hovering
27:15just under a second
27:17and it is now coming down
27:19to around half a second
27:21here we ride on board
27:23with Dino Meganovic
27:24six and a half tenths is the gap
27:26it is getting closer and closer
27:28and Joshua Dirksen
27:29was ever so slightly
27:31trying to break the toe
27:32as they went down to the first corner
27:34on the breaks we go
27:35meanwhile in the background
27:36whoa Richard Vashore
27:37trying to find a gap
27:39down the inside
27:40he's going to look to the outside
27:41on the breaks
27:42of Rafael Villegomez
27:44we've got three battles going on
27:46in the top seven places
27:48and out front
27:49it looks like we could be about
27:51to see a change of lead
27:52Dino Meganovic trying to go through
27:54not quite able to make it
27:56but for third place
27:57Richard Vashore
27:58is he about to take that third place
28:00on the exit of the corner
28:01yes he is
28:02he goes by
28:03Rafael Villegomez
28:04and that's a change of position
28:06yeah and the last lap or so
28:07Villegomez dropped
28:08a good second away
28:09from Buganovic
28:10in second place
28:11which suggests to me
28:12that
28:12that Villegomez's tyres
28:14Pirelli tyres
28:15have left the chat
28:16they've had enough
28:17of this race
28:17because he's dropping away
28:18at this stage
28:19and Vashore using his experience
28:21in these F2 cars
28:22and of course racing
28:23at this bar
28:24in the international circuit
28:25previously
28:26to get a good exit
28:28out of turn four
28:29and go alongside
28:29into turn number five and six
28:32great move by Richard Vashore
28:35set it up
28:35from turn one there
28:37and he's now through
28:38and now it all becomes
28:40about that chase
28:41to the top two
28:42he'll hope
28:43that they start to battle
28:44Pires
28:45there go the top two
28:46it looks like that battle
28:47could be about a start
28:48three seconds
28:5013 laps to go
28:51can Richard Vashore
28:53close that gap
28:54is the question
28:55let's have a look
28:57at this again
28:57so this is Vashore
28:58on the left of shot
28:59in the orange car number six
29:00gets a good exit
29:01tucked underneath
29:01and gets well alongside
29:02before we go into turn
29:03number six
29:04five is the left king
29:05six is the right hander
29:06and brilliantly executed
29:08move there
29:08it's just all about patience
29:09and especially easy
29:11when Villegomez's tyres
29:13looks like they are
29:14fading at this stage
29:15when we cut back
29:15to this lead group
29:16watch Buganovic
29:18in the grey car
29:18second place
29:19behind Dirksen
29:20Dirksen just ever so slightly
29:21weaving from one side
29:22one side to the other
29:36just to try and break the toe
29:38every little bit that he can
29:39but now Buganovic
29:40looking around the outside
29:41he's going to the outside
29:42now he'll cut underneath
29:43to try and get a straighter
29:45run through turn two
29:45he's in a brilliant position
29:46to make a move
29:47using the DRS
29:48down towards turn four
29:49he's going to have to
29:50probably go to the outside
29:51as Dirksen actually
29:52doesn't cover the inside
29:54I think that's a
29:54potentially a little bit
29:56of a missed opportunity
29:57from Dirksen there
29:58to cover the inside
30:00unless he thinks he can
30:00get the traction on the exit
30:01he tries
30:02he tries car squirming
30:03around underneath
30:04in the AX
30:04has he got an overlap
30:05into turn number six
30:06no he hasn't
30:07lead taken by
30:08Dino Buganovic
30:09Dino Buganovic
30:10hits the front
30:11of the Formula 2
30:12feature race
30:13so we have a new
30:15race leader
30:16confirmed
30:16Dino Buganovic
30:18has gone through
30:19into the lead
30:20of the race
30:20and Joshua Dirksen
30:22can he now respond
30:24what about Richard
30:25for sure in third
30:26can he bring himself
30:27into play
30:28the Swedish driver
30:29trying to make history
30:31for his country
30:32has gone through
30:33here was the moment
30:34they came
30:35out of turn three
30:36Dino Buganovic
30:37got the DRS
30:39the gap was not closed
30:40and he went down
30:42the inside
30:42and went through
30:43Dirksen trying to get
30:45the switchback
30:45on the exit there
30:47but Buganovic
30:48had made the move
30:50done
30:50and that is
30:52the lead change
30:53can he now
30:54break the DRS
30:55is the question
30:56and get over
30:58a second clear
30:59now we focus
31:00our attention
31:01back to this battle
31:02for third
31:03Richard Vashor
31:04two and a half
31:05seconds
31:06back
31:06from the top two
31:08but he has
31:08close company
31:09behind his
31:10in Villa Gomez
31:11and done
31:12potentially
31:12Villa Gomez's
31:13ties weren't
31:13quite as expired
31:16as I thought
31:16they were
31:16maybe it was
31:17just a couple
31:17of mistakes
31:18which dropped
31:18him off the
31:18back of that
31:19duet at the
31:20front of the
31:20field
31:21but this is now
31:22turning into
31:22a what
31:22one two three
31:23four five
31:23five car battle
31:24for second place
31:25in a bit
31:25of a DRS train
31:27again
31:27we're heading
31:28into that middle
31:28phase of the race
31:29now as Dirksen
31:30is looking in the
31:31mirrors of our
31:32leader
31:32of Buganovic
31:34just trying to
31:34force an error
31:35but this might be
31:36that middle stage
31:37of the race
31:37where everyone's
31:38just trying to
31:39coax their tyres
31:39into the final
31:40quarter before
31:41they then make
31:42a final attack
31:43but we shall
31:44see for now
31:44but it doesn't
31:44look like Dirksen
31:45has any interest
31:46in letting
31:47Buganovic have
31:48any respite
31:49at the front
31:50through turn
31:51four this is a
31:52very close
31:53battle
31:53we have
31:54a sure
31:55Villa Gomez
31:55done
31:56Marty takes us
31:57all the way
31:57back to the
31:58end of the
31:59points finishes
32:00let's see what
32:00Dirksen has to
32:01say in second
32:01playing the long
32:08game Dirksen
32:09there
32:09potentially
32:10thinking that
32:11Buganovic is
32:12pushing his tyres
32:13too hard at this
32:14early stage
32:15we're half way
32:16through now
32:16but potentially
32:16thinking Buganovic
32:17has pushed too
32:18hard and that
32:19the tyres may
32:20come back towards
32:21Dirksen at the
32:22end of the race
32:23that remains to
32:24be seen
32:25it will be good
32:25racing for us
32:26if we can have a
32:27final lap showdown
32:28but at the
32:29moment
32:29Buganovic
32:30certainly
32:30either has the
32:31pace or is
32:32choosing to use
32:33those Pirelli tyres
32:34ever so slightly
32:34more
32:34so he's decided
32:36that he will
32:38essentially let
32:40Buganovic go
32:40through and
32:42just stay within
32:43DRS and come
32:44back at him at
32:45the end
32:45maybe that's why
32:46he didn't defend
32:47that part down
32:48it's turn
32:48for I did say
32:49at the time
32:49he didn't really
32:50cover the inside
32:51as aggressively
32:51as he potentially
32:52could have done
32:53so maybe
32:54that's why
32:55maybe it was a
32:56concerted effort
32:57thinking
32:57alter
32:58I'll deter him
32:59if he doesn't
32:59want to go
33:00through
33:00but if he's
33:00committed to it
33:01then I'll just
33:02sit behind
33:02follow him
33:03save my tyres
33:04and then have
33:05another go
33:05later on
33:06if it works
33:07very clever
33:08driving
33:08if Buganovic
33:09runs away
33:10and then
33:10Dirksen never
33:11sees him again
33:11then he may
33:12lament the fact
33:13that he didn't
33:13defend a little
33:14harder
33:14we jump back
33:15on board
33:15with the
33:16roading
33:16driver of
33:16Alex Dunn
33:17not pretty sure
33:20what to do
33:20here to be honest
33:21if there's a
33:22passing opportunity
33:22you need to
33:23take it
33:23in one go
33:24copy
33:25whoa
33:26and there comes
33:27the passing
33:27opportunity
33:28straight away
33:28for Alex Dunn
33:29he was given
33:30the orders
33:31to do it
33:31and he followed
33:32them straight away
33:34so Alex Dunn
33:35being given the
33:36hurry up
33:37essentially
33:37and he is getting
33:38on with it
33:39straight away
33:40he is up to
33:40P4
33:41and now he's
33:42staring at a
33:43possible podium
33:43a little cryptic
33:44that radio message
33:45from Alex
33:46to the roading team
33:47but unpacking it
33:48from my understanding
33:49would be that
33:50Alex Dunn
33:50saying not sure
33:52what to do here
33:52it's not because
33:53he doesn't want
33:54to overtake
33:54it's more
33:55because he doesn't
33:56know whether he
33:56wants to push the
33:57tyres any harder
33:58to try and make
33:58places now
33:59or later
34:00but the team
34:01said if there's
34:01an overtaking
34:02opportunity
34:02go for it
34:03first opportunity
34:04lunges down
34:05the inside
34:05brilliantly executed
34:06move
34:06and actually
34:07caught
34:07Villa Gomez
34:08slightly unawares
34:09there
34:09great stuff from
34:14Alex Dunn
34:15there
34:15beautifully
34:16executed move
34:17no further
34:18investigation by
34:19the way
34:19between Alex Dunn
34:20and Pepe Marty
34:21was keeping an
34:22eye out for that
34:22one
34:23so it is
34:24game on
34:25essentially
34:26Alex Dunn
34:28looking at
34:28Richard Vershaw
34:29now to try
34:30and get into
34:31the top three
34:32and smiles on the
34:33faces of the
34:33roading motorsport
34:34team
34:34I think they
34:35like that one
34:35I think they
34:36like that one
34:36we all like
34:37seeing a move
34:38like that
34:38late
34:39hard but fair
34:40good move
34:41from Dunn
34:41he's been
34:41the man
34:43in the drama
34:44the whole race
34:44he's been involved
34:45in a lot of incidents
34:46and if I say involved
34:47he's been part of
34:48a lot of overtakes
34:49and incidents
34:50so far
34:50everything's been
34:51above board
34:52so good racing
34:53so far
34:53and if Dunn
34:54can continue
34:55his charge
34:56he'll get very
34:56quickly into
34:57the DRS
34:58of the shore
35:00he's only a tenth
35:01away from getting
35:01DRS on this lap
35:03but if he has a
35:03good run down
35:04turn one
35:04he might be
35:05viable for it
35:06in towards
35:07turn number four
35:08that would certainly
35:08help him in his
35:09defence against
35:10Mila Gomez
35:10who he passed
35:11at this corner
35:11one lap ago
35:12Mila Gomez
35:13could be coming
35:14under pressure here
35:15from Pepe Marti
35:17Pepe Marti
35:18has climbed
35:19five places
35:20in this race
35:21he started
35:22eleventh place
35:23here last year
35:23Pepe Marti
35:24same place
35:25he did
35:26this year
35:27and he finished
35:28third in the sprint race
35:29can he do a repeat
35:31eleventh to third
35:32in the sprint race
35:34he got a double
35:35podium in fact
35:35from eleventh
35:36on the grid
35:36and he is once
35:38again finding
35:38his way
35:39up the audio
35:40in the
35:42Bahrain
35:43sprint race
35:44there it is
35:45Pepe Marti
35:46looking to try
35:47and get
35:48after
35:48Mila Gomez
35:49so Luke
35:50we would expect
35:51people to start
35:52struggling
35:53to slip
35:53perfect
35:54interesting
35:56little bit of
35:57information
35:58from the team
35:58radio
35:59high-tech
35:59TGR
36:00there
36:00to Luke
36:01Browning
36:01at the early
36:02stage
36:02earlier on
36:03I was saying
36:03Luke Browning
36:03looked like he had
36:04really good pace
36:05but hasn't made
36:05any progress
36:05since
36:06that sounds
36:07like it might
36:08have been
36:08delivery
36:09he's dropped
36:09off the back
36:10of that group
36:10maybe just
36:11allowing his
36:12tyres to
36:12breathe a little
36:13bit
36:13reducing the
36:14amount of
36:14sliding
36:15if that
36:16pays off
36:16then we'll
36:17see him
36:17carve his
36:17way through
36:18the field
36:18in the
36:18second half
36:19of this race
36:19as we look
36:19back
36:20from Villa
36:20Gomez
36:21to Marti
36:21Marti
36:22wide of the
36:22apex
36:23that could
36:23either be
36:23because he
36:24carried too
36:24much speed
36:25in
36:25or he's
36:25just trying
36:26to keep
36:26a little
36:26bit of
36:26extra air
36:27on that
36:28front wing
36:28to reduce
36:29the front
36:29sliding
36:29one thing
36:31to know
36:31there are
36:31only two
36:32drivers
36:33in the
36:33149s
36:35and they
36:35are our
36:35race leader
36:36Dina
36:36Biganovic
36:37and fourth
36:38place
36:38Alex Dunn
36:39so Richard
36:40for sure
36:41just got to
36:42keep an eye
36:43on that
36:43Alex Dunn
36:44is looking
36:45quick
36:45and Joshua
36:46Dirksen
36:47will perhaps
36:48have to raise
36:49his pace
36:50because
36:50two drivers
36:51are going
36:51sub 150
36:52and they
36:53are P4
36:54and P1
36:55meanwhile
36:56in P5
36:57Villa Gomez
36:58is going to
36:59have to go
36:59defensive
36:59I think
37:00here
37:00because a
37:01Red Bull
37:01junior
37:01might be
37:02about to
37:03charge
37:04down the
37:04inside
37:05at turn
37:05one
37:06we are
37:07very close
37:07into that
37:08hairpin
37:09Pepe Marti
37:10lining up
37:11a move
37:11for fifth
37:11place
37:12it's interesting
37:13seeing them
37:13come out
37:13so narrow
37:14to turn
37:15minor hairpin
37:15in qualifying
37:17they were
37:17more in the
37:17middle of
37:18the circuit
37:18but they're
37:18so concentrated
37:20on keeping
37:21those rear
37:21tyres alive
37:22they don't
37:23want to be
37:23going through
37:23turn two
37:24with any
37:25steering angle
37:26on at all
37:26really
37:27if they can
37:27get away
37:27with it
37:28which is why
37:28they're coming
37:28out so narrow
37:29with turn one
37:30just open up
37:31turn two
37:31when they're
37:32accelerating
37:32because those
37:33rear tyres
37:33are what we're
37:34hearing
37:34are the critical
37:36tyres to look
37:36after
37:36especially that
37:37left rear tyre
37:38exits of corners
37:40like this one
37:40turn number eight
37:41you get a bit of
37:42oversteer through
37:43here and then
37:43you're just
37:43taking tenths away
37:45from your lap time
37:46at the end of the race
37:46Dino is finding
37:48some pace isn't he
37:49when you look at
37:49he is up to
37:51four tenths half a
37:52second quicker
37:53than any driver
37:54out front right now
37:56where's he finding
37:56this pace from
37:57again it's one of
37:58those is it
37:58it's just turning
37:59into a bit of a
38:00tortoise and hare
38:00race we're in that
38:01middle phase where
38:02the hares are ahead
38:04are we going to see
38:04the tortoises creep
38:05their way back up
38:05the field
38:06at the moment we
38:07think the tortoises
38:08are the likes of
38:09Browning, Dirks
38:10and drivers like that
38:11the hares potentially
38:12done and Beganovic
38:13it's going to be
38:14an interesting
38:15close so if you're
38:16sitting at home
38:16watching don't go
38:17anywhere we've still
38:18got seven eight
38:19laps to go and it's
38:20going to be a good
38:21finish I think we're
38:21in a bit of a lull
38:22again but every time
38:23we've had a lull
38:24there's been drama
38:25a few laps later
38:26let's have a look at
38:28this this was down
38:30towards turn four
38:31yeah so this is
38:32Miata
38:33outside
38:34Fornaroli
38:35yeah
38:36Fornaroli can he get
38:37that move done
38:38Fornaroli giving him
38:38space fair play
38:39Miata running through
38:40the gravel
38:40I think Miata
38:41actually ran himself
38:42off there so I
38:43don't expect us to
38:44see any investigation
38:45but fighting down
38:46the field I think
38:47Fornaroli will be
38:48a bit disappointed
38:49this race of course
38:49being our pole
38:50says it yesterday
38:51and basically
38:51nearly third last
38:54at the moment
38:55that's the extended
38:56gravel tram
38:57at turn four
38:57which was catching
38:58drivers out and
38:59qualifying
39:00and we've got the
39:01red box next to
39:03Cordil because he
39:04has a ten second
39:04penalty for that
39:06contact on
39:07Montoya and that
39:08is Max Esterson
39:08right well this
39:09could change things
39:10because Max Esterson
39:11has come to a stop
39:12and that could see
39:14a safety car
39:15which will
39:16definitely
39:17change the
39:19complexion of this
39:19race now we don't
39:20know how Max Esterson
39:21got into that
39:22position but
39:23eyebrows raising
39:25in the commentary
39:26box that's for sure
39:27Max Esterson
39:28safety car is
39:30indeed out
39:31that's a shame
39:32for Max Esterson
39:32he is coming to a
39:36stop oh wow
39:37here we go
39:38he's mining
39:39pit stop
39:40soft tyres
39:40new ones
39:41potentially or
39:42at least newer
39:42and he'll be
39:44gambling that he
39:45can make his move
39:45up the field
39:46he was basically
39:46one of the last
39:47drivers in this
39:48race and if he
39:49can get on the
39:49back of the
39:50groove in this
39:51after this safety
39:52car he's going to
39:53have tense
39:54seconds potentially
39:56in terms of
39:56lap time advantage
39:57this could be a
39:58master stroke I
39:58mean we saw it
39:59Charles Leclerc a few
40:00years ago in the
40:01sprint race take a
40:02pit stop didn't
40:02he and that
40:03paid off for him
40:03without a safety
40:04car so unfortunately
40:05Esterson trudging
40:07away I was
40:09rubbing my hands
40:09what I say
40:10rubbing I was
40:11about to rub my
40:12hands together and
40:12then forgot that I
40:13had a microphone in
40:14my right hand so
40:14it didn't really
40:15work so well but
40:16this is going to
40:17bring this race to
40:17a lovely conclusion
40:19if you're a if
40:19you're a neutral
40:20fan you just did
40:21the I think
40:22exactly the same
40:22expression everyone
40:23did at home in a
40:25neutral position
40:25basically Gabriele
40:28Mini has been
40:29advised to box
40:30he's already boxed
40:32so that was him
40:33wasn't it
40:33yes it was
40:34that was probably
40:34just a bit delayed
40:35so Gabriele Mini
40:37is in
40:37sounded like because
40:39he was asked to box
40:40it was it was a
40:41planned pit stop
40:41there was no other
40:42reason other than
40:42to potentially take
40:44advantage of this
40:44safety car period
40:45and good work from
40:46the team actually
40:47they pretty much
40:47pitted immediately
40:48as the safety car
40:51came out and
40:52potentially because
40:52he was further
40:53backwards down the
40:54field than the other
40:55drivers he was able
40:56to do it first so
40:57he'll lead the group
40:58of cars that
40:58this is Gabriele Mini
41:00so that was
41:00Cushmine who came
41:01in here comes
41:02Gabriele Mini
41:03from P10
41:04Prima car
41:04both Alpine
41:06juniors in
41:07so Cushmine has
41:08come in
41:09Gabriele Mini
41:10is now in
41:11let's not get them
41:13confused because of
41:13course Miney
41:14and Mini
41:16very similar liveries
41:17different teams
41:18so Miney for
41:18Damned Lucas Oil
41:19they of course
41:20fitted one lap
41:20ago
41:21Mini this time
41:22for Prima
41:22let's have a look
41:23at this pit stop
41:24of course no air
41:25guns purely just
41:26battery operated
41:27four tires
41:28one tire each
41:29so he's gone
41:30for the hard tires
41:31had to wait
41:32for someone else
41:33coming down the
41:33pillar
41:33who's that
41:34that's a Damned
41:34Lucas Oil car
41:35as well
41:35so we've got
41:36Gertha is in
41:37as well
41:38to the pits
41:39we've got several
41:40drivers in
41:40Crawford has come
41:42in
41:42Deel is in
41:43Gertha's in
41:44Fornaroli is in
41:45Miata's in
41:46as well
41:47yeah so let's
41:48keep an eye on
41:48that because
41:48this is a master
41:49stroke from Damned
41:50Lucas Oil
41:51with Miney
41:51the lap before
41:51because Miney
41:52is now going to
41:53be at the head
41:53of that group
41:54of drivers
41:55that have pitted
41:56so we've got
41:56a bit of a split
41:57strategy here
41:57the likes of
41:58Boganovich for
41:58sure
41:59Dirksen
42:00Dunn
42:00Villegove
42:00is basically
42:01largely the top
42:02where are we
42:04looking
42:04top 10
42:0512 places
42:06no pit
42:06stops
42:07everyone who
42:08was out of
42:08the points
42:09has rolled
42:09the dice
42:10hoping that
42:10they can
42:11have a faster
42:12race time
42:12with these
42:13new tyres
42:13because the
42:14loss in time
42:16the pitting
42:17is far far
42:17less under
42:18a safety car
42:18than it is
42:19under race
42:20conditions
42:20because you
42:20can basically
42:21regain
42:21you can join
42:23the back of
42:23the field
42:23having lost
42:24almost no
42:24time
42:25just track
42:25position
42:26but if you
42:26can gain
42:26that back
42:27with the
42:27new tyres
42:28then it will
42:29pay off
42:29let's have a
42:31look here
42:31this is the
42:31on board
42:32with Miney
42:33just had to
42:34wait
42:35only about a
42:36second
42:36as it was
42:37very close
42:38to Crawford
42:38so that's
42:38good work
42:39by the
42:39Premier team
42:39they judged
42:40that to
42:40perfection
42:40so I make
42:41that seven
42:42drivers who've
42:42come in
42:43so far
42:43there was a
42:44couple of
42:45concerned faces
42:46on the
42:46Premier team
42:46as he left
42:47the box
42:47but just about
42:48okay I think
42:49no unsafe
42:50release
42:53it's going
42:54to be six
42:54laps to go
42:55this time
42:55but we're
42:56probably going
42:56to have
42:56another lap
42:57or so
42:57under the
42:57safety car
42:58I would
42:58imagine
42:59so we'll
43:00have something
43:00like five
43:01laps remaining
43:02so from
43:02Mini down
43:03those drivers
43:04have come
43:05in
43:05so Mini
43:06Crawford
43:07Gertha
43:07Fornaroli
43:08Miata
43:09Cordill
43:10and Miney
43:11they have
43:11all boxed
43:13Montoya
43:13watches on
43:14like we all
43:15do in
43:15anticipation
43:16I think
43:17that may
43:18not have
43:18updated
43:19because I
43:19would expect
43:20Mini to
43:21be at the
43:21head of
43:21this group
43:21maybe my
43:23maths was
43:23off
43:24but no
43:25change at
43:25the front
43:25Muganovich
43:26still in the
43:26lead
43:27we were
43:28talking about
43:28the tortoise
43:28and hare
43:29I was talking
43:30about the
43:30tortoise
43:30and hare
43:31whether Chris
43:32agrees or not
43:32but of course
43:34Muganovich
43:34drove away
43:35from the
43:35front of
43:35the field
43:35but that
43:36gap
43:36that he
43:37gained
43:37has been
43:38erased
43:38by the
43:39safety car
43:39and of
43:39course
43:40he used
43:40tyre life
43:41to get
43:41that
43:41and there
43:42is confirmation
43:43on screen
43:44Martins
43:44is also
43:45in as
43:46so that
43:47is eight
43:47drivers
43:48who have
43:48come in
43:49so Martins
43:49is now
43:50our lead
43:50driver
43:51who is
43:52on pit
43:53so there
43:53is confirmation
43:54of the
43:55drivers
43:55who came
43:56in
43:56so Victor
43:57Martins
43:58in 13th
43:59the lead
43:59driver
43:59on fresh
44:00tyres
44:01that graphic
44:01confirming
44:03that
44:03wow
44:04this is going
44:05to be an
44:05interesting one
44:06points go
44:06to the top
44:07eight
44:07how does
44:08this change
44:08things Chris
44:08well we saw
44:09in the
44:10F3 race
44:11who was it
44:12Camara
44:12was it that
44:13ended up behind
44:14the medical car
44:15on the first
44:15lap
44:15finished in
44:1612th place
44:17because of a safety
44:18car allowing a group
44:20to bunch up
44:21we've of course seen
44:22Martins go quite
44:24dramatically through the
44:25bollards at turn number
44:26one on lap one
44:27for half a lap down
44:29with a front wing
44:29change and now
44:30he's the lead
44:31of the second
44:32faction of drivers
44:34that have taken
44:34that pit stop
44:35for newer
44:36fresher
44:36faster
44:37soft tyres
44:38so he could have
44:39had a bit of a
44:40resurrection and a
44:41stroke of luck
44:41in this one
44:42and if he can
44:42make his way through
44:43only about three or
44:44four cars
44:45he's on for points
44:46I mean if you're
44:47Gabriele Mini
44:48you were 10th
44:50which is 2.2
44:51positions away from
44:51the points
44:52but he lost
44:53four places in that
44:54so
44:55well I suppose
44:56Martins did pit
44:57at the
44:57well did come in
44:58for damage at the
44:59start
45:00so
45:00I guess
45:01maybe he didn't
45:02stop
45:02we disregard that
45:03pit stop
45:03but from Mini
45:04down
45:05they're the ones
45:06that have just
45:06come in
45:06so he only lost
45:08what four positions
45:09what's the advantage
45:10going to be like
45:11for the viewers at
45:12home
45:12well we discussed
45:13before and I heard
45:14from the likes of
45:15John Bennett
45:15Max Esterson
45:16Luke Browning
45:16when I spoke to
45:17them ahead of the
45:18weekend
45:18and they were
45:19expecting a time
45:20delta between
45:21qualifying on a
45:22brand new soft
45:22to a used soft
45:25in the race
45:25of being between
45:266 and 8 seconds
45:27as we see the
45:28safety car lights
45:29out
45:29we'll go racing
45:30this time
45:30if you're
45:31let's say
45:32halve that gap
45:333 seconds a lap
45:34faster on a
45:35newest set
45:35with these only
45:36what 5 laps
45:37remaining
45:374 positions
45:39for Mini
45:40that he's lost
45:40in the pit stops
45:41it's going to
45:41seem like
45:42pocket change
45:42yeah
45:43so from Mini
45:44down
45:44those are the
45:45drivers we need
45:46to watch
45:46in terms of
45:47the fresh tyres
45:48right out front
45:49Dino Beganovic
45:50can he take us
45:52through
45:53to the lead
45:55here we go
45:55out of the
45:56final corner
45:57Dino Beganovic
45:58looking to make
45:59history out front
46:00he leads us
46:01down towards
46:02the first corner
46:03as we resume
46:04this sprint race
46:05we've got drivers
46:06on fresh tyres
46:07from 14th down
46:09but we've got a
46:10battle for the lead
46:11out front
46:11and Joshua Dirksen
46:12has taken
46:13the lead of the race
46:14into the first corner
46:15the papaya of Alex Dunn
46:17fires his way
46:18down the inside
46:19of Richard Fashore
46:20there was almost
46:21contact between
46:22the pair there
46:22and Alex Dunn
46:23trying to get
46:24into third place
46:25may go backwards
46:26in the process
46:27Pepe Marti
46:28trying to go
46:29through the fourth
46:30watch to the far
46:31right of screen
46:31as we go
46:32four wide
46:33into turn four
46:34Luke Browning
46:35in the Williams
46:36Academy colours
46:37goes all the way
46:38round the outside
46:39and tries to get
46:40himself up the order
46:41but may go
46:42oh contact there
46:43between Dunn
46:44and Browning
46:45Browning briefly
46:46going off the circuit
46:47it's for sure
46:48who's going to come out
46:49in third
46:49Marti in fourth
46:50Villa Gomez
46:51down the inside
46:53trying to take
46:53fifth place
46:54and somehow
46:55somehow they all
46:56come out facing
46:57in a straight line
46:57wow that was so close
46:59Luke Browning
46:59was lucky to not
47:00get collected
47:01and taken out
47:02of the race
47:02by Dunn
47:03Dunn
47:03goes at the inside
47:04of turn number 10
47:05brilliant move
47:06tucking up the inside
47:07there getting that done
47:08but it can't quite
47:09get the exit he needs
47:10and now he's going
47:10to be under pressure
47:11once again
47:12from Luke Browning
47:13who's made up a position
47:14in all this squabbling
47:15it's all changed
47:16of course
47:16at the lead of the field
47:17Dirksen back
47:19in front
47:20watch there's Crawford
47:22on those
47:23fresher tyres
47:24working his way
47:25through the order
47:25watch out for him
47:27we've got the likes
47:28of Gertha
47:29Mini
47:29doing the same
47:30as well
47:31they are already
47:32making their way
47:32up the order
47:33we hear Mine
47:34he had a slow
47:35pit stop
47:35Luke Browning
47:40was not happy
47:41with that at all
47:42it's left us
47:42with a two horse
47:43race out front
47:44and a big lock up
47:45on his front
47:46two tyres
47:46for Dino
47:47Biganovic
47:48there
47:48and that has
47:49allowed Joshua
47:50Dirksen to get
47:50a bit of a break
47:51out front
47:52as they go
47:52down the start
47:53finish straight
47:53yeah that's not
47:54going to be
47:54comfortable for
47:55for Biganovic
47:56he locked the
47:56left front tyre
47:57I think it was
47:58just going into
47:58that final corner
47:59we heard the
48:00team radio
48:01from Browning
48:02saying that
48:02Dunn demolished it
48:03well he nearly did
48:04luckily for Luke
48:05the car is still
48:06working and now
48:07going out the end
48:07the outside of Dunn
48:08into turn one
48:09can he get
48:09that done
48:10no Dunn's just
48:11rolled off the brakes
48:11and gone through
48:12as we see
48:12three abreast
48:13going into the
48:14corner
48:14I think that's
48:15between the Red Bull
48:16car of Lindblad
48:17and some other
48:18drivers
48:18it's all going
48:20off isn't it
48:21Dino Biganovic
48:21is not done
48:22with this lead
48:24battle just yet
48:25in the background
48:26that is Alex Dunn
48:29still fighting away
48:30with Lindblad now
48:32and Luke Browning
48:33has got the
48:33switchback on Lindblad
48:35he's got the
48:35switchback on Alex Dunn
48:36and he's got two
48:37positions for the
48:38price of one
48:39Luke Browning
48:40through into P6
48:41really smart move
48:42there from Browning
48:43is now Dunn
48:44looks at the inside
48:45at a very shallow
48:45angle that would
48:46have been a
48:47speculative move
48:48Dunn
48:48getting his elbows
48:49out in this one
48:49but really clever
48:50move for a
48:50Browning there
48:51saw that
48:51saw that
48:53is that
48:53Marty
48:53in the Red Bull
48:54car and
48:55Lindblad
48:56Lindblad
48:56my mistake
48:57yes
48:57he saw that
48:58those two
48:58are fighting
48:59Browning went
49:00wide
49:01cut back
49:01got a great
49:02exit
49:02and got a
49:02double
49:03cutback
49:03brilliant
49:04brilliant
49:04move
49:04that's been
49:05noted
49:05that Dunn
49:06Browning
49:06incident
49:07for causing
49:07a collision
49:08here we go
49:09Gabriele
49:09Minny
49:10came through
49:11pit lane
49:11and he's
49:12fighting with
49:12another driver
49:13who came
49:13through pit lane
49:14through the
49:14smoke
49:15someone had
49:15a big
49:16lock up
49:16and Gabriele
49:17Minny
49:17is going to
49:18do a big
49:18move
49:18round the
49:19outside
49:20at turn
49:2011
49:20on board
49:21we go
49:21through
49:22turn
49:2212
49:22can he
49:23hold it
49:23Gabriele
49:24with
49:24three
49:25wide
49:25through
49:25there
49:25contact
49:26surely
49:27this
49:27will
49:27end
49:27in
49:28tears
49:28somehow
49:29it
49:29didn't
49:30and Gabriele
49:31Minny
49:31there
49:31was
49:32three
49:32wide
49:33with
49:33Corford
49:34and
49:34Gertha
49:35I believe
49:35Gertha
49:36leads the
49:37train
49:37on the
49:37exit
49:38how
49:38Gertha
49:38went
49:39around
49:39the
49:39outside
49:39of
49:39two
49:40cars
49:40through
49:40there
49:40and
49:41came
49:41out
49:42unscathed
49:42with
49:42the
49:42contact
49:43they
49:43had
49:43I
49:43don't
49:44know
49:44but
49:45that
49:45was
49:45a
49:45wonderful
49:45move
49:46by
49:46Gertha
49:46we
49:46couldn't
49:46even
49:47see
49:47him
49:47from
49:47Minny
49:47on
49:47board
49:48we
49:48got
49:48to
49:48the
49:48out
49:49board
49:49and
49:49there's
49:49Gertha
49:49on
49:50the
49:50outside
49:50as we've
49:51got a potential
49:51move for the lead
49:52Berganovic
49:52he's going to look inside
49:53no covered by
49:54Derksen
49:54to the outside
49:55he's going to come out
49:56in an arrow
49:56he's going to try and get
49:58underneath the rear wing
49:59but Derksen's wise to that
50:00comes out narrow as well
50:01but he's going to be
50:02Derksen's going to be under
50:03pressure from Berganovic
50:05no doubt
50:13down around there
50:14looks for the cutback
50:15trying to get good traction
50:16does he have enough tyre to get
50:17alongside Derksen at this stage
50:19nearly an overlap
50:20but not enough to force a move
50:21into turn number six
50:23great racing
50:24this look at Richard Vashore
50:25and Pepe Marti
50:26they are closing right in
50:27this is no longer a two-way fight
50:29these two did have an advantage
50:31and Richard Vashore did have third
50:33but I don't think he will for much longer
50:34there goes
50:35Pepe Marti
50:36down the inside
50:37who has somehow fought his way
50:39into contention
50:40it's almost like we've gone back a year
50:43because Pepe Marti
50:44has gone once again
50:45from 11th
50:46to a possible third place
50:48in a Bahrain F2 sprint race
50:50down the back straight
50:51one more time
50:52Joshua Derksen scanning his mirrors
50:55and he can now see three cars
50:56in both mirrors
50:58this is not good viewing
51:00in the mirrors for Derksen
51:02he would like to go
51:03one-on-one with Berganovic
51:04unless he thinks he can
51:06back Berganovic up
51:07into Vashore and Marti
51:08and hope that they start squabbling
51:10but I don't think
51:11I think that would be too high risk
51:12considering we've got three
51:13DRS zones here this weekend
51:15in Bahrain
51:15good exit out of turn 13
51:17that'll help
51:18bridge the gap a little bit
51:20or extend the gap a little bit
51:21to Berganovic
51:21but of course
51:22don't forget we've got
51:23DRS once again
51:24down to turn 1
51:25and still
51:25pretty heavy tailwind
51:27in turn 1
51:27which is why this DRS
51:29is being so powerful
51:30any one of these four can win this race
51:32Joshua Derksen
51:33look at that
51:34breaking the toe
51:35straight away
51:36Villa Gomez
51:37right there as well
51:38only a second back
51:40down 2
51:41turn 1
51:42we go for the penultimate
51:43and Joshua Derksen
51:44desperately trying to break the toe
51:46Dino Berganovic picks his line
51:48to the outside
51:49into the breaking zone
51:51at the hairpin
51:52they now make their way
51:53out of turn 2
51:54and this could be the moment
51:55we see this lead change
51:57once more
51:58it's the run down
51:59to turn 4
51:59Berganovic has DRS
52:01Joshua Derksen doesn't
52:03will the effect
52:04help Berganovic
52:05get round the outside
52:07at turn 4
52:07it will
52:08he's gonna drift
52:09round the outside
52:10but can't quite get through
52:12the battle isn't over yet
52:13Joshua Derksen
52:14has to keep
52:15defensive driving up
52:17and he just about
52:18holds off Berganovic
52:19for the time being
52:20this is outstanding
52:21racing
52:21as now we see
52:23for sure
52:23for sure
52:24on the inside
52:25brilliant move
52:25for sure
52:26elbows out
52:27down towards turn 8
52:29and gets through
52:29into second place
52:30on the exit though
52:31Pepe Marti
52:32round the outside
52:34at turn 9
52:34and he's up into second
52:36I don't believe it
52:37from 11th place
52:38Pepe Marti
52:39has gone
52:40up into P2
52:41and he's now staring
52:42at a possible win
52:43yes
52:44it's all changed
52:45for second place
52:46but
52:46an absolutely
52:47wonderful move
52:48from
52:49it was
52:51obviously we see
52:52more battling
52:52in the background
52:52but yeah
52:53Marti
52:54managed to get
52:55out of the inside
52:56it shows you
52:56how important
52:57a good exit
52:57out of those
52:58slow corners is
52:59he clearly has
52:59saved those rear tyres
53:00enough
53:01because that
53:01exit he got
53:02was crucial
53:03to get that position
53:04I can promise you
53:05we haven't just
53:06started the race
53:06this is lap 22
53:07we're not counting
53:08down the laps
53:10we're going up them
53:11down to the final
53:12two corners
53:12we go
53:13Gerth has got
53:14the fresh targets
53:14by the way
53:15in eighth place
53:16and that gamble
53:17has paid off for him
53:18because he's come
53:19through into the points
53:21here we go
53:22one more time
53:22down the start
53:23finish straight
53:24it is now
53:25the Spaniards
53:26Pepe Marti
53:27trying to get himself
53:28into the race lead
53:30if you can believe it
53:31started 11th
53:32will he now go
53:33into P1
53:34down to turn 1
53:35then we go
53:36head to head
53:37on the brakes
53:37and Pepe Marti
53:38comes out ahead
53:40as we hit
53:40the braking zone
53:42for the final time
53:43in this sprint race
53:44they're all there
53:45look at them
53:46over 10 cars
53:47fighting for the win
53:48in this Bahrain
53:50F2 sprint race
53:51and Pepe Marti
53:52now has the lead
53:53as we go down
53:54to turn 4
53:55Dirksen in second
53:56Beshore in third
53:57and Dina Viganovic
53:58is no longer
53:59on the podium
54:00Piers
54:01we're looking
54:01at that fight
54:02down for the lower
54:02end of the top 10
54:03Browning got shuffled
54:04wide on the exit
54:05of three
54:05had to take
54:06to the gravel
54:06and has lost
54:06a couple of places
54:07to the two red
54:08ball drivers
54:09both of Goethe
54:11and Lindblad
54:12down into 8th place
54:13the last points position
54:14but on the back of him
54:15is the new tyre shot
54:16Mini
54:16going to the outside
54:17oh no
54:18that's Alex Dunn
54:19into
54:20almost into the side
54:22of Fornaroli
54:23and that is Alex Dunn
54:24out of the race
54:26sadly
54:27Richard Vershore
54:28trying to line up
54:28a move
54:29on Joshua Dirksen
54:30we've got the two
54:31red ball juniors
54:32of Goethe and Lindblad
54:33side by side
54:34trying to swap positions
54:35but look at this
54:36it's almost like
54:37we've just started
54:38the race
54:38Dirksen now
54:39furiously defending
54:41from Richard Vershore
54:42who's trying to get
54:43himself back
54:44onto the podium
54:45Dirksen runs
54:46wide on the exit
54:47does that open
54:48an opportunity
54:49for Richard Vershore
54:50he's going to fire
54:51it round the outside
54:52at turn 12
54:53superb driving
54:54from the MP
54:55motorsport driver
54:56and Joshua Dirksen
54:57almost lost it
54:58on the exit
54:59of the corner
55:00this has been
55:01thrilling contest
55:02in the F2
55:03sprint race
55:04here at Bahrain
55:05our 10th appearance
55:06at this circuit
55:07and it has lived up
55:09to all expectations
55:10but out front
55:11he started
55:12P11
55:13on the grid
55:14and Pepe Marti
55:16worked his way
55:17through the order
55:18and he's worked
55:19his way
55:19to a second
55:20second win
55:21in FIA
55:22Formula 2
55:23Pepe Marti
55:24wins
55:25for Campos Racing
55:26to tip off
55:27what has been
55:28a fantastic day
55:30for them
55:30here at Bahrain
55:32they've won
55:33in both categories
55:35what a day
55:36for Campos Racing
55:37what a day
55:38for Pepe Marti
55:39winner
55:40in the FIA
55:41Formula 2
55:42sprint race
55:42absolutely
55:43superlative drive
55:44from Marti
55:45he chose his battles
55:46and timing
55:47absolutely
55:48to perfection
55:49we weren't talking
55:50about him
55:50a huge amount
55:50he was just
55:51biding his time
55:52at the back
55:52of the group
55:53and when he had
55:54the opportunity
55:54he struck
55:55and he's
55:56over the moon
55:57with that
55:57you can see
55:58what it means
55:58to him
55:58punching the air
55:59in the car
56:00and I'm sure
56:00we'll get
56:01a pretty emotive
56:02team radio message
56:03very very shortly
56:04wow
56:04that is one
56:05of the best
56:05sprint races
56:06I've ever seen
56:07in Formula 2
56:07absolutely
56:08superb
56:09from start
56:09to finish
56:10Richard Vershaw
56:11in second place
56:13what a move
56:14on Joshua Dirksen
56:15round the outside
56:16at turn 12
56:17Joshua Dirksen
56:19in third
56:20Oli Gertha
56:21on those
56:21fresher tyres
56:22came through
56:23to P5
56:24well done
56:25to him
56:26as well

56:30in the points
56:31as well
56:31so two drivers
