00:00Hello and welcome to another London Transport Roundup. A heads up for Greenwich commuters and visitors to Cutty Sark DLR station as it's set to close on May 31st for a major refurb.
00:13The station is one of the busiest on the DLR network with over 7.6 million annual users and will be shut for up to 10 months while all four escalators plagued by years of breakdowns are being replaced at the cost of £4 million.
00:30Now for years passengers have had to scale 121 steps or queue for a tiny lift to get out of the station which serves the heart of Maritime Greenwich and the National Maritime Museum.
00:43The plan is to have everything back up and running before the 2026 London Marathon.
00:50Now down in Streatham Hill in South London there's been a big revamp coming to the A23 corridor between Sternhold Avenue and Holmwood Road.
01:00Transport for London will begin construction this summer on a new pedestrian and cycle friendly redesign which includes protected cycle lanes, new crossings and upgrades to bus lanes by removing parking and loading bays.
01:15While TfL says the changes will make the area safer, the more and more pleasant for walking, cycling and the public transport, the scheme is facing pushback from local Liberal Democrats who say that residents haven't been adequately consulted.
01:33With Heathrow Airport planning for an expansion and a potential third runway, pressure is mounting again to deliver the long-awaited rail connections to the south and west of London.
01:48While the Elizabeth line has massively improved central London access, Transport for London and Heathrow officials have both said to the London Assembly last week that links to Surrey and Berkshire are still missing and are badly needed.
02:01TfL's Christina Calderto put it plainly by saying those connections that are currently in place are great for central London but the lack of them in any other direction is definitely a problem.
02:13Meanwhile, in East London, TfL has launched a consultation on a new Superloop Express bus route, the SL12, which would run between Ganshill and Raynham stopping at Newbury Park, Romford and Elm Park.
02:29If this is approved, it would become the first Superloop service to serve the borough of Havering, a move welcomed by local leaders in East London after Mayor Sadiq Khan was criticised for not including the area in the original Superloop rollout back in 2023.
02:49Londoners are now being asked to share their views on the proposed route and its potential benefits for the area.
