00:00This is not a game. This is a 12-week job interview. Never, ever, ever underestimate me.
00:1514 people came to London in search of a job.
00:18I don't like liars. I don't like cheats. I don't like bullshitters. I don't like schmoozers.
00:30I don't like arse-lickers.
00:35They've come to battle it out for a job with Sir Alan Sugar.
00:38I would have told you to piss off.
00:40Tough and uncompromising, Sir Alan is at the top of his game with a global empire worth 700 million pounds.
00:50He's offering one job with a six-figure salary.
00:53I'm gonna fucking win this night if it kills me.
00:56To get it, they'll have to work and live together and face a weekly business task.
01:01You can't fucking fire me!
01:03Do you feel the pressure is building?
01:05This is the ultimate job interview.
01:07You're fired. You're fired. You're fired.
01:10Last week on The Apprentice.
01:22Sir Alan sent the candidates to the countryside.
01:25You're gonna have to negotiate with the farmers for raw produce
01:29and then you're gonna have to add value to that produce.
01:33Split into two teams, they had to make food to sell at a farmer's market.
01:37Their aim? To turn produce into profit.
01:40This is where we've got to be aggressive.
01:42Chuckley, let's do it and let's get on with it.
01:45In Raj's team, Syrah clashed with James at the planning stage.
01:49I feel sometimes he's a dithering old fool.
01:55Despite some early setbacks.
01:57There is a spider floating in it quite clearly.
01:59His lady is just about to buy one.
02:03Syrah stopped at nothing to get their products sold.
02:06Sorry, would you like to buy some chutneys?
02:08Ben's team priced their soup high for upmarket North London.
02:12I thought it was gonna be too expensive.
02:14In the North, and especially in Blooming Yorkshire,
02:15you do most of your shopping with £2.
02:17And their venison soup proved hard to ship.
02:20Unfortunately for us, the majority of people coming to a farmer's market
02:23seem to be vegetarian.
02:25Half-price soups.
02:26Raj's team sold out, but Ben's team learnt that buying game
02:30was money down the drain.
02:33In the boardroom, the results were announced,
02:35with Raj's team making twice as much as Ben's.
02:39On the losing team, Ben blamed Paul.
02:42I didn't see 100% of Paul over the last four years.
02:46I lost my nuts off in that play, do you think?
02:48But Sir Alan was clear who was at fault.
02:50Well, I'll tell you, this time you haven't won,
02:52because this time you're fired.
02:54Ben became the eighth casualty of the boardroom.
02:57Now six remain to fight for the chance to become The Apprentice.
03:02At the house, Sarah, Raj, James and Tim wait to see who has survived the boardroom.
03:17Who's coming home?
03:18I don't know.
03:19Ben's the only deaf man.
03:20Paul is almost fighting against two people in there,
03:22as well as Sir Alan's questions.
03:24So, if he doesn't come home, I won't be surprised.
03:27But then if Miriam doesn't come home, I won't be surprised.
03:29The only thing that will surprise me...
03:30Is if Ben doesn't come home.
03:31Is if Ben doesn't come home.
03:40Well, there goes the door.
03:41Oh.
03:43Who's it gonna be?
03:45Oh, my God!
03:49Oh, my God!
03:50Oh, my God!
03:51Hello!
03:52Fucking hell!
03:53Well done, kiddo!
03:55Fuck me!
03:57Oh, my God!
03:58Hello, mate!
03:59Fuck me!
04:00I am shocked to death!
04:02The fact that Ben didn't come back, I was absolutely gobsmacked,
04:06because I thought, from my point of view,
04:09he was going to be one of Sir Alan's favourites,
04:12that he would definitely make the top four.
04:14Was it a very harsh sacking?
04:16Yes.
04:17Or...?
04:18He was really, really harsh, wasn't he?
04:19He said to Ben,
04:20look, it sounds to me like you've just told Tim to do that,
04:23Paul to do that, Miriam to do that,
04:25and you've sort of, you know, sat back and thought,
04:26nice one, they're all getting on with it.
04:30Six candidates left,
04:32and one night's sleep before the next task.
04:35What's going on?
04:36What's going on?
04:37.
04:38I'm going to have to go in half an hour.
04:40I'm going to have to go in half an hour.
04:41Hello?
04:42.
04:43.
04:44.
04:45.
04:46.
04:47.
04:48.
04:49.
04:50.
04:51we've got to be in north london cars are going in half an hour
04:56and what time call it
05:07the teams have been told to head for north london only their drivers know the destination
05:13i wonder if we have to run with holloway prison for a day that would be fun
05:25liverpool supporter tim suddenly realizes where they are tottenham no we couldn't be going tottenham
05:32tottenham i'm not walking into tottenham i refuse but when huddle was manager of tottenham yeah
05:37apparently in the middle of the night his phone rang and it was the tottenham fire brigade and
05:43they said mr huddle there's terrible news there's a massive fire at whitehall lane and he said oh
05:47my gosh he goes the cups because we've got to save the cups and he said it's all right mr huddle the
05:51fire hasn't reached the canteen yet ex-chairman of spurs sir alan sugar saved the club financially
06:03he fell out with the fans when he sacked manager terry benables but he's still their biggest single
06:09shareholder the new chairman the new new owners are very very kindly allowed us to perform our next
06:17task at this stadium on match day this saturday against manchester united the good news is this is
06:26a businessman's dream the commodity that you're going to sell is tailored exactly to the 36 000 fans here
06:35you're going to be selling a telephone text messaging service nick and margaret will be following you
06:42around and they'll be reporting to me as they have done in the past the team that sells the most
06:48subscriptions will win and the team that doesn't one of you will get fired on match day each team will
06:57have eight hours to sign up fans to a text messaging service called spurs on it'll text news about the
07:04club to their mobiles syra volunteers to be first forte's project manager i mean i'm not going to go
07:13sit here talk about team dynamics we know what we've got to do we won the last task and i think the
07:18biggest thing for me is to make sure that we get into the minds of tottenham fans so we are tottenham
07:25the opposing team impact will be led by paul the task before i was project manager and we didn't win
07:32so i i'd like to be given the opportunity to sort of redeem myself we'd love to have you as project
07:36manager paul oh that's very good tim tim is that right yeah there's no time to lose each team has a
07:43two thousand pound float and two days to plan its strategy to win over the most fans to get access to
07:50what can we do on saturday to make 36 000 people text one number we immediately started to think
07:58along lines using the stadium so we were thinking about using the jumbotron putting a rolling screen
08:06on the jumbotron we also thought about things on a larger scale okay guys there is loads of advertising
08:12around this pitch how about we replace all the spurs on advertising signs with text i to and our number
08:21yes to win blah fans will text i for impact or f for first forte depending on which team signs them up
08:33who's going to see the other side the players and people looking that way what about the signs
08:38this side but you need it everywhere yes but look you're sat here and there's no signs on the back
08:45of the hoardings it's just empty spaces where here here it's just no smoking the back so that's on the
08:51seat watching the game you could be looking at all miles and miles of this it's true okay well that's
08:57the question for it is no but we don't even need permission for that because we're not hurting anyone
09:01there are we just bang them all there the whole pitch it's true and then the other team will come down
09:07and look at it and think shit so the thing along the corridor sarah decides her team needs a slogan
09:13sign up today to win an amazing chance chance i think it's gonna be very simple yeah i know but
09:20these are just why don't we just have a few minutes silent ourselves because these are some of the words
09:25i want to incorporate in that because it's important yes sign up today to me yes but that doesn't allow us
09:30to just think great because you know but what my plan is is for us to use the words and then think
09:35creatively around the words because it's no good thinking creative and then you miss five of the
09:39key words out we won't sarah's management style is somewhat different from mine and basically if
09:44she doesn't want you to talk you'll get a sort of hand in the face sort of a jib job which i have to
09:49say is um when you're in a team of three you don't need to talk over people and you don't need to be
09:56quite serene so now you can be creative and think of whatever you want in 10 minutes but i would like
10:00as all to sort of use those messages why don't we get the linesman to write the number in the
10:07middle of the flaming pitch the linesman yeah because he's got the he's got the actual machine
10:11to do everything in white doesn't he in the circle on a pitch no way they won't destroy the pitch this
10:16groundsman lives and dies for that pitch pete okay but what's he doing he's only painted it he paints
10:21it anyway it's just we're asking him to paint another bit of it no he won't touch it i'm telling you
10:25we can ask him but i'm telling you the linesman who paints a pitch i'll give you i'll give him if
10:30you paint i'll give you the money my name before the teams can implement any ideas they must get
10:39approval from director of commercial partnerships matt house i've just got 10 minutes i know don't see the
10:45other guys as well okay brilliant do we have any staff from tottenham that is available to us on the
10:52day none at all even if we paid for it none none okay with respect to the people who buy um or who
11:00do your t-shirts and staff to hire you need to look those up i guess in the yellow pages those kind of
11:05things direct promotion agencies okay i think we found the spurs represent representative that we
11:10were talking to um very difficult throughout the day you know and um every time we came up with an
11:14idea can we do this it was no can we do this no can we do this no can we no you know it was that
11:18sort of an approach from him in terms of the match day program um you've missed we've missed the
11:24deadline all right would you be able to send an email to your subscription list i think we might just
11:29be past the deadline got to be bigger paul puts off calling matt while he searches for a big idea
11:35why don't we get some flippin lunatic to parachute off one of the tour parts into the stadium they won't
11:41allow it forget about asking just get some bloke to do it okay something big now what if we get
11:48the shirts that the team are wearing this saturday yeah take them to an embroiderers and have the
11:53number embroidered on the back like that of the shirts won't let it happen why not because they
11:58won't let it happen i'm telling you why they i'm telling you they won't let it happen but we could
12:02ask them you're not talking about football shirts are you yeah yeah the foot the football shirts that
12:05the players are actually going to be wearing on their backs they won't change their football numbers
12:10five o'clock the teams head home on the way syrah explores new possibilities with matt house
12:17can we put something on the pitch for to lay out for people to see
12:24sarah delegated herself to make the call to the spurs representative i have to say that call did not
12:29go well i don't really want to put anything additional on the pitch unless it's like life or death
12:35right this is probably life or death for us to be quite honest with you and we'll have it on the side of
12:40the pitches um you know near the goal near the kind of goals goal areas and then move it around
12:49she didn't read his language in terms of what he was saying he could and would do
12:56and i don't think she was particularly sensitive in the way that she worded the requests if it's
13:01absolutely no way i will take your word for it and i'll relay that back to sir alan when i'm in the
13:07boardroom i mean forgive me but your tone is getting a bit overly aggressive at the moment i'm
13:13sorry about that um i know you're under pressure yeah but it's a very important day for us yeah
13:20and i don't appreciate you getting on your high horse and starting to
13:25sir alan this and sir alan that to me all right
13:28you will not get any value out of me if you carry on in that room matt i absolutely appreciate that and
13:33i'm really really sorry that that you've take the you know you've taken it to for me to be rude
13:38i perhaps i am just because i talk loud i may come across aggressive and i'm really sorry for
13:43that it's just that no it isn't it's the words you're using all right um okay sorry i do apologize
14:01my approach in business is entirely different from sarah's approach i mean that's just how i do things i
14:06tend to be just less aggressive but you know i'm very certain about what i want to get but i'd have
14:14this in a certain way i just think different personalities would do it in a different way
14:17you know i've got my way um you know sarah's got her way and you've got your way james is basically
14:23i feel saying things behind my back and which which undermines me and raj knows about it and i think
14:32james needs to either come to me directly face to face and say syrah i have an issue this is it or
14:39you are having more luck with matt house wanted to do some kind of message or um we have a an open mic
14:49you could do something in that way i would help you in that way perfect now on the jumbotron how feasible
14:56is for it to highlight our competition and the possible prize with our number on the drummer trump
15:02pre-match and at half time or with a rolling scroll perfect have you considered asking us to put
15:13a piece of editorial on the website would you be able to coordinate that on our behalf if we sent you
15:18a script of what we'd like advertised yeah syrah's team finally agree on a slogan to get your f off to
15:26get your spurs on i think we need to speak to matt don't you yeah but honestly i'm a bit scared so
15:37hello hello hi is that matt hello matt hi it's james max calling from first forte um first of all
15:47apologies for ringing so late and i just really wanted to run something past you if that's okay
15:55imagine a mobile phone and in the screen of the mobile phone it has the line get your quote f
16:04unquote off to get your spurs on get your f off to get your spurs on
16:13uh i mean listen there's no way that my uh that the head of communications is going to go for that
16:23no way even even in context okay even even if it's in the context of um of a sort of mobile text message
16:32because basically what we're saying is that because they've got to send the letter f
16:34um in order to register so we're saying you know send that off and then you get your spurs on
16:40don't worry i get the pun okay um thanks mate thank you for leaving i do understand that pun don't
16:50worry okay all right um clever that it is okay all right i think i was exceptionally polite
16:59i think i was very careful how i trod and i think i was very mindful of the fact that we'd had a
17:06difficult call earlier but still he was abrasive and quite rude okay all right thanks thanks
17:14next morning the teams are summoned to an emergency briefing from sir alan's advisors nick and margot
17:33good morning everyone good morning right now we've had the spurs director of communications
17:42in touch with us this morning and there are some new ground rules some changes that you're going to
17:47have to comply with from now on first of all the website is out of bounds you can obviously use it to
17:55inform yourself about things but you can't add anything to it or have links with it or anything
17:59secondly no jumbotron and no tannoy those are out of bounds thirdly no use of the pitch no painting
18:08on it no banners over it now subject to that enthusiasm is fine uh when it turns into pushiness
18:14which it can do and then it can lead to aggression and perhaps rudeness it is totally unacceptable okay
18:20thank you thank you it's time to think again when we received the phone call on the first evening
18:28with the slogan f off to get your spurs on um we just felt it was inappropriate we started to have
18:36some question marks in our mind about whether it was suitable to open up all of the communication
18:41channels at the club such as the website the big screens at the stadium and so forth because the tone
18:47and execution of some of the uh creative was a bit risque ironically the fallout with spurs hits paul's
18:56team hardest okay it's all right it's all right right but they agreed that yesterday right well
19:03i took the changes quite badly because i was quite confident the stuff that we'd already put into
19:07place and got agreement from people it wasn't like these were pie in the sky ideas we'd actually spoken
19:11to the right people and got confirmation they could actually go ahead and then to have people basically
19:16renege on on deals at critical times was very upsetting we are better placed than the others because they
19:22were going for the jumbotron and the tunnel system so if anything this has worked in our favor right
19:27can i just reiterate from now on nothing derogatory about tottenham at all with no spurs
19:34tannoy system for match day paul decides to get his own welcome to the edgeware road
19:40don't forget spurs manchester united tomorrow oh my god is that all ours bloody hell all right
19:51cyra's team pick up freshly printed fly posters she plans to get a head start on paul's team by sticking
19:58them up all over top is it possible for us to stick some posters in your windows just for one day
20:05is that all right mate we're just thinking to we need to give some leaflets out as well
20:09so we might give you a lunch so that every pizza you deliver just put a leaflet on top and just hand
20:14it out you'd love to do that is that all right what's your name i can talk people's language within
20:20two minutes of seeing them that's communication that's understanding something james can't do it
20:27and the reason james can't do it and i'll demonstrate is you know he's in tottenham it's a rough area
20:32these people in multi-quarters going cheerio then cheerio it's like see you love or to our mate
20:37thanks a lot gov it's all that kind of language and he can't do it all right mate see you later
20:43great we'll see you later thank you nine o'clock miriam and tim are still hard at work downstairs
20:53team leader paul is busy relaxing
20:55it's not the fact that i don't like planning obviously you've got to plan but but i am more
21:02geared towards the third day you know i am a third day sort of man the morning of the big game
21:10at three this afternoon 36 000 spurs and manchester united fans will descend on top
21:26impact and the first 40 have just eight hours to sign up fans to spurs on
21:30the team that signs up the most will win
21:44they've both got permission to rig up stands at opposite ends of one concourse
21:50when we arrived at the stadium we knew that we were going to see something from the other team
21:55because they'd been there the night before i was a bit taken aback by it i thought wow you know
22:00they've done a really good job their stuff looks really professional tim i think was absolutely gutted
22:11the other team stand was professionally done it looked very slick very colorful and it was done
22:17to a higher quality than our stand our one was it was rubbish it was basically pieces of paper printed
22:23on and stuck on 10 o'clock tim starts to fly post the walls but first he's got to find space among
22:36sire's posters that now run the whole length of the concourse so i don't want to give them i'm going
22:40to give them back to you yeah the alternative is i'm just going to come and put my posters over the
22:43top of your in that area there are no halves you do what you have to do but you're destroying our
22:51property you cannot destroy it why not because that's wrong you can't destroy somebody's property
22:56and all i'm saying is this half we just said i'm not this this is yours and we're not going to
23:00encroach on your wall space here but i believe this is my half so what do you want the women's
23:04toilets and down yeah that's fine have it with spurs banning advertising around the pitch both teams
23:27have to attract the fans in the streets around the stadium are these my lovely girls syrah's team
23:35has spent float money hiring girls from a local glamour agency can you all take a t-shirt each how many
23:41more doing here for us you know football meant lager and it also meant girls you know so um it wasn't
23:46you know our plan was to get some nice looking girls out there you know obviously short skirts you know
23:50attractive um to kind of get grab attention and to be as passed on our leaflets today for you girls it's all
23:56about sex it's sexy it's football it's beers and it's just literally going up to the lads and charming
24:03them is it paul has hired staff too but with an incentive to sell this is war you've you've seen
24:09this there it is they are the enemy right so if you imagine when there's going to be thousands of
24:15blokes walking through can you hold this james yes you've got thousands of blokes walking along
24:21with two gorgeous girls with short skirts on them whatever and doing the razzle dazzle it didn't
24:26bother me at all that they'd hired all these you know scantily clad young ladies this is the kind
24:30of thing that would go down well in america but not on a cold dreary tottenham morning when i hired
24:35staff i hired staff that were going to be incentivized uh you were told about the sort of scale the more
24:40signatures that you get the more the more you'll get paid we're told about all that good paul and his team
24:46gets stuck in good morning how you doing you got mobile phones are you okay get them out get out
24:53your mobile phone just the word impact i yeah i know i know okay great message sent for one day in
25:03his life united fan paul backs a spurs win i reckon we could take my new today everyone's saying two one
25:09i reckon two nil i think a clean sheet for us yeah definitely yeah let's go lads all the best
25:14ta-da then don't worry down the road cyrus glamour girls try to master her megaphone really loudly
25:22just with a bit of passion text f2
25:29come on you've got an audience here come on come on do it otherwise i'll have to do it and god knows my
25:35i know you do it you do it because i've hired you i've hired you to do it look you've got people
25:41here tell them what to do come on have you got a mobile phone yeah yeah we need to take your name
25:46paul's hired hands are already signing up fans don't you call that number do you know you just don't
25:51have to call it you just send it so i'll tell you what i'll show you how those brooks there for example
25:57what you would do is you'd go up to them come with me babe because you've got lovely legs and you'd go up
26:03to them and you say all right boys how you doing here's a tottenham thing here can you take one
26:08no please you're not tottenham i'm certainly not oh well what are you standing here for then
26:13because i'm going to watch magic united there's two teams played today oh all right we'll ignore them
26:16you know but anyway lovely lads they'd normally warm up to you and stuff but we're working for spurs
26:21today if you text the word impact to that telephone number you get the opportunity to win two vip
26:28tickets to the arsenal game in november i'll carry that for you
26:31three hours to kick off cyra begins to lose patience with her girls all right let's go
26:41girls around with 20 000 leaflets an armful of t-shirts and a six-foot banner to carry
26:46her day is not going well hi mate you can't you can't go in there you can't go in there girls you
26:55you can't go in there just leave the boxes out here get it out you do it now okay text message
27:05cyra gives up on getting her girls to wave the banner
27:09the new plan attach it to the railings excuse me darling have you got any scissors i can borrow
27:26come here sweetheart no don't worry about it just come here
27:30bloody hell you've got to help me out because i'm having a bit of a problem right the sticky
27:36i'm going to get underneath it hold it up a bit more that's it right i'm going to get underneath here
27:42you got it hold on no no no no go up a bit
27:49i think just from looking at the other team's faces on the day it was so obvious that they were annoyed by
27:53circumstances that they weren't enjoying themselves that um they were having a pretty off day you know
27:59as a team and i think that that definitely uh manifested itself in the way that they approached
28:04the task right the poster just do what you're doing okay and just up and down i can't yeah that's a good
28:12idea the thing is you need it higher up guys have you got a step ladder sweetheart can i ask you a
28:19favor trying to get this post on i want to stab it through that thing okay thanks darling calm down
28:3112 30. raj tries out selling by megaphone is there anybody here who wants to meet the scourge team
28:39after a few minutes he decides it's not his style i don't like selling you know selling is not my forte
28:45um so um yeah i don't like it but i'll do it and i probably don't do it as well as someone like
28:51sorrow get a free month trial by texting the letter f to our strategy was if this is a marketing campaign
29:00you don't need to sell you will get a free month trial the use of the megaphone was about get the
29:07message to the people and let them decide please take a leaflet because we're freezing and we want to
29:12get in as soon as these leaflets are out of our hands you've got a phone on you the key thing we
29:17wanted to do is make sure people got out of their phones and actually started texting the other
29:20team were giving out lots of flyers um brilliant lovely but what are they going to do with those
29:25flyers if they don't convert those into texas it's a waste of time oh there you got one of these yet
29:29no do you want one no well that's fair enough then have you got my well phone yeah show me your
29:35phone and i'll show you what to do only the fans who actually sign up by six o'clock will count in the
29:42competition between the two teams now go to your back no back there's also a lot giving out leaflets
29:49don't take the information from him take it from my lovely girls in the lovely white t-shirts and
29:54short skirts on text the letter after hearing syrah paul's team abandoned their megaphone syrah had been
30:02using her megaphone and people had been sort of running away from the noise and people just didn't
30:07want to be accosted by 50 watts of megaphone i'm really sorry that i'm very very loud but i was
30:13born with this gob and i've got to use it you've done very well 50 minutes before kickoff paul meets
30:19up with spurs mascot chirpy to catch some younger fans of course he does how are you young man he's all
30:28right has your dad got a mobile phone on him today yeah right but this man is not happy paul's
30:36enticed his daughter to sign up without explaining the consequences my daughter starts pointing
30:42phone numbers in because i'm getting it i'm thinking well where's that come from yeah then i
30:46realize it's come from that paul's a bit of a wheeler dealer he has a tendency to uh shade the truth
30:52somewhat will it keep bugging me now like no no no no none of that kind of thing will happen i don't
30:59think paul sees anything wrong with half truths or half lies um to get what he wants or what he done
31:06he held the paper he told that and he took the paper away it's a bit wrong the way it's been done
31:11i can apologize on behalf of the colleague who spoke to you almost time for kickoff precious last
31:18minutes to catch a few customers before it's too late take a leaflet thanks right mate thanks a lot
31:26free spurs on free spurs on i hate this job i do it's been a real nightmare but anyway
31:47good afternoon and welcome to white hartley the world
32:08most of the candidates enjoy the perk of watching the game from an executive box
32:13tim and syrah stay back to mop up late comers
32:27after nine weeks of competition marketing at spurs is finally sapping cyrus energy
32:32i just don't i don't know if my heart is in in this right now to go all the way if every single
32:46task is going to be so full on and the thing is i'm one of these people i have to give full on
32:53because i'll tell you something if i wasn't there that tunnel system wouldn't be used everyone's got it
32:57i haven't heard anybody else use it you know and i can't carry you know a whole team of people
33:03i think raj and i've been putting our weight you know more than enough thanks very much uh we've been
33:09getting out there we've been getting people to sign up we've been giving the leaflets out you know
33:13we've been doing all that stuff probably she's feeling a bit tired emotional because you know
33:16she's project manager and the pressure's you know on
33:19the home side isn't having the best of days either how's that ronaldo it's just you know it's just too
33:34much and it's like i'm always in the wrong because i'm the one that you know speaks loudly you know
33:40i'm i'm the one that's energetic and so god she's really fucking stressful it's like
33:44you know you guys go home to your parents or your friends or whatever and your family or whatever
33:53we don't we have to sit and do a task every night
34:03i don't want to do it anymore
34:07almost half time suddenly manchester united snatch a crucial advantage
34:11final score spurs nil man united one leaving sir alan in the perfect mood to fire someone
34:32monday afternoon both teams gather at sir alan's boardroom
34:41you can go through to the boardroom now sir alan's ready thank you francis good luck game good luck kids
35:00afternoon afternoon
35:26well how'd you enjoy yourself yesterday a really good day
35:37okay so let's get an understanding what what happened then perhaps we'll start with impact first
35:42of all paul just take us through okay after the briefing we um we had a little tour of the stadium
35:47and the ground we thought about utilizing the stadium and the sort of facilities that they had things
35:52like the turn batron the advertising ordering around the pitch the pitch itself chirpy the mascot
35:58we had been given the okay by matt house for basically everything that we had proposed
36:05then at around 11 o'clock we were called down to a meeting to suggest that everything that we had put
36:11into place on thursday was now null and void and also we weren't able to speak to anybody from
36:17tottenham until further notice so that sort of hampered and scuppered all of thursday and half of
36:23why was it made null and void had you agreed it previously yeah agreed it we'd agreed it did you
36:28have any problems like this it didn't affect our overall strategy well it did to a certain extent
36:35we had agreed with matt that we could lay some banners on the pitch we didn't find in the most kind of
36:39amiable chat um but you know it was agreed eventually and we obviously went off and had banners
36:45produced to that size clearly here something went wrong in the communication but but good lesson
36:54is is that something went wrong and you can't just give up you've got to do something sarah what do you
37:00think you got a solemn look on your face this morning and how do you think you're done then in
37:04terms of a marketing strategy and doing a marketing job i feel absolutely fantastically well done that we
37:11did it what is the point of marketing what's the what do you do it for you you do it to get people
37:18interested in a product and device a call to action so so the end of the day if i'm hearing you right
37:23the point of marketing be advertising promotion whatever it is is eventually to get the product
37:29sold yes absolutely i i actually think that on this occasion it wasn't about face-to-face selling i
37:34think it was about getting your message to the people and and that you know it depends which team did
37:39that effect well we'll see we'll see um nick and margaret were following you around as you know um
37:48margaret first of all tell me uh how many subscriptions did uh first forte manage to
37:55clock up on the day right for the whole day uh they ended up with 468 right and nick
38:03impacted well with 704 right well there you go anyway for you a treat ever heard of gary rhodes yeah
38:21the chef right well he's coming around to your house with his team and he's going to sit you down and
38:26he's going to cook for you a most luxurious meal okay i don't have to do a washing up no you have
38:33to do nothing you're going to be treated like a king off you go everybody the losing team one of you
38:40as you know is going to get fired i'm not being silly but if he's judging it on the one day then i may
38:53be in trouble if he's judging it over three days then i think i've pulled my weight along for the
38:58losing team it's the local cafe let's see what he says to us exactly i have no idea you know as soon
39:03as you know the debate kicks off and all the rest of it if he's judging it on saturday i did the best
39:09that i could but i did it with a bit of a glum face because there were other things outside that
39:13that got me down i had a bad day if that's not good enough then thanks very much sack me i just
39:20think it's been just a complete load of bollocks all of it and that's how i feel you're going to
39:25say that in the morning yeah i am going to say it if i get pushed to that extent for the winners here
39:30comes the treat after all these years i can still make this sauce
39:46all right we're ready starters poached eggs
39:56hello hello i'm james hello there james hi nice to meet you and you too
40:02hi i'm siren hi there nice to meet you you too nice to meet you nice to meet you nice to meet you
40:06and it's a shame we're going to a fish and chip shop because we are actually the losers of this task
40:11we're going to start off with nice glow bar to choke oh yeah we've just made this little kind of like
40:22almost like a loose stuffing of wild mushrooms we thought we'd do some baby roast chicken some
40:26little coussin roasting those on on the bone taking the breasts off we've got all these lovely little uh
40:32sort of late late summer sort of early autumn vegetables and some of them are still around
40:41look at this boys this is beautiful very nice oh look at that this is fabian who's going to be
40:47looking after you this evening good evening two cotton chips what are you going to have to drink
40:52a water please who would ever thought to put an egg on top of it it's from there
40:57but we lost sight of the proper
41:05thank you very much thank you very much for coming gary it's been fantastic it's been lovely pleasure
41:10you're going to show us next morning back to the boardroom one of the losers is going to get fired
41:22yes send them in please you can go through to the boardroom then
41:36right well this so-called bad news when the rug was pulled what was the mood like you must have
41:57been demoralized surely i don't think we've demoralized at all i think we just said we
42:01accepted it we've gone with it and said okay what else can we do do you think you think you
42:04you said earlier on and not particularly in this board meeting here now but in the prior board
42:08meeting that you felt the tottenham people stonewalled you the yeah i did do you think that was because
42:14she was rude to them no not at all i i i think that they think she was rude the feedback from the
42:19tottenham people were that she was very abrupt very aggressive and that's perhaps why they didn't warm
42:25to you i really do not feel that when we first met him you know he really wanted us there and you know
42:30obviously the man united game is one of their biggest games you know we we were made very that's
42:34why i chose it for you no no but it was made very clear to us that you know they were they were not
42:39willing to negotiate because it was such a high-class game you know and that's the feedback we got from
42:44him that's nonsense quite well i don't think it's not the high-class game has got is irrelevant
42:48it's irrelevant what was you doing according to their security needs and and the fact what was your what
42:52was laying something on a pitch got to do with security well it was nonsense rubbish well
42:57social rubbish they were bullshitting you that's what they were doing they couldn't be bloody
43:00bothered that was the point they couldn't be bothered and they got the hump about something
43:05whether we were playing manchester united or whether we were playing hamilton academicals right
43:10the actual laws of safety are exactly the same i think right from the outset when we met you know
43:16that particular chap he was he was a brick wall you know and i'll before she was rude to them yeah as
43:20soon as he walked through the door we were discussing ideas with him and because he was a brick wall did you
43:24think that the the way to deal with him was to be rude and aggressive then sir alan i was doing a
43:28business pitch and i was saying i'm going to push you because i want this and he didn't want to be
43:33pushed for whatever reason and he didn't like it when i was pushy after that i said guys i don't think
43:38this guy likes my style so i'll pass it over to you james like your style is an understatement over to
43:44james why did you pass it to james why didn't you pass it to raj well i passed it to whoever to be
43:48quite honest with you after the damage was done after you slagged the guy off three or four times you
43:52wanted him to get you out of trouble i'm not the only person that slagged him off sir alan i'm not
43:56going to take responsibility full of that everybody that was in that room it might that can i just say
44:00james also then tried his lovely approach the flowery approach of the kind reproach and you know
44:06what he got the same result the reason that um i suppose siren um james get you know most of the phone
44:13calls is because they have a more charming style i'm very direct very charming i don't think the guy at
44:17top no sir alan i did apologize as well i mean i do swallow my pride and when i've pushed it i didn't just say
44:22oh we'll just leave it i apologize not once not twice three times i said look i'm really sorry
44:28if you've taken what i've said the wrong way i do apologize you see the thing is sarah in my company
44:34i've got to say i've always said this to my stuff and i'll say it to you if you're ever one of my stuff
44:39there's only room in the organization for one big mouth me okay right no one else me when my lieutenants
44:47try on and try to imitate me they get stonewalled quite rightly so and that's why i tell my people
44:55watch your mouth maybe you're too much of a bull in a china shop sarah right that's not the first time
45:00someone said that's rather well maybe you are and you know it's you know sometimes it works other times
45:05it doesn't and it's learning to know when to do it sure right why didn't you sell as many subscriptions
45:13as the other team i've got the impression from observers that you kind of lost heart and you
45:17remain pretty low i'll put my hand up i was feeling a bit low however despite all the feeling a bit low
45:24because i'm a human being because it was really there are other things outside the event that that
45:29got me down i haven't seen my family and for ages um and to be quite honest with you it was a shivering
45:35cold day um i was there was lots of things that were pretty stressful i'm quite a highly strong person
45:41and it added to the day you're telling me i put my hands up to say what that you didn't perform well
45:45i'm putting my hands up to say if i had a low day i should not be responsible for carrying the whole
45:51sales for the for the whole day and you know and there should be other people in the team that should
45:55bring bring bring up the numbers too so who else are you referring to in particular well i'm referring
45:59to james and raj and i'm not they were not in front of me and i cannot tell you the figures
46:04or the numbers that they converted so do you think you converted more than them i don't know sir alan
46:09well as ever i'm you know i'm not getting a clear picture here as to the responsibility if you
46:19kind of step out there for a while and uh wait for my phone call and uh i'll i'll bring you back in
46:25because the fact of the matter is one of you it's going to get fired today okay
46:45if i get fired because i can't sell i don't give a shoot i don't know
46:49i don't know what to say it's not just about selling because he was really upset then
47:07come on come on i wouldn't be anyone if he's looking for a salesperson i'm not lying
47:13that ain't me no i'll tell them i'm not a salesperson i think it's just completely missing
47:17point you know when you talk to people you give out leaflets and they're not going to sign up there
47:22and then they will go away and think about it and you will clearly tell them that you've got to do
47:25while six o'clock okay send them back in please francis you can go through now thank you
47:55this is the home run for you lot now if you have a desire to win this thing you're going to have
48:07to tell me why each one of you shouldn't be fired james who is the least effective in the team and why
48:16shouldn't you be fired um i'll start with uh the team if i may
48:22there are some things which in in terms of how and the decisions that we made that had i been
48:31project leader i would have done differently i think sarah when she said before in terms of how
48:35she dealt with matt i know i wouldn't have spoken to him in the same way you know i just wouldn't that
48:43may have caused us a problem in terms of how we were perceived by them and what we got out of the
48:49spurs side i think there were some mistakes made and it's a question of how you wish to allocate that
48:54blame if you like do you want to work in this job i definitely do not just this whole thing this whole
49:01thing the more i've been here i've been exceptionally impressed by the way that you have run your
49:06businesses and what you say and what i could learn from working with somebody like you i don't know you
49:10want to be any good for me though are you going to do something because you know i would hope so you
49:14know i'm not i'm not corpus christi college you know i know i'm not i'm not looking to teach people
49:20i don't mind people picking out things when i'm expecting someone to actually do something i'm
49:24expecting to do something and i'm expecting to learn new things you don't want to make me some money
49:28raj i've spoke to you once before in all the tasks people like you anybody likes you i like you i think
49:34you're a kind of stand up nice nice enough fellow okay but i told you once it's going to get down to a
49:40situation where well you or them you're going to get ditched okay be under no illusion the like in
49:49you is going to go now why should i let you stay here why shouldn't i fire you who's responsible for
49:56today's loss i think you know i've contributed a lot to each one of the tasks okay i mean this i
50:02haven't done nothing wrong in this task okay i'm not a salesperson i freely admit that okay if you're
50:06if you're looking for a salesperson i'm not your man you know i i had i i feel you saying that yeah
50:11but i'm not my man for this you're not my man for that what are you my man before i have not said
50:17that at all all i'm saying you have you've actually said it i have not i have said camera doesn't like
50:21i am not a salesperson and i freely admit that and if i get fired for that then i accept that
50:25don't you have a flavor of that everything that i want ends up in having to sell something
50:30either a service a product or whatever absolutely right so are you actually talking yourself out of
50:35this day by saying well you're not the salesperson no i i have one in australia enough no no when i
50:40mean i'm not a salesperson what i mean is i'm not an out and out salesperson i can sell i don't think
50:45i'm an overly charming person i haven't got the sort of personality which you know you know encompasses
50:49and engrosses people immediately you know the teeth so if it's not you today then who else should go then
50:54in in terms of who else um it's probably going to be unfair but you know as much as you know i do
50:59obviously like sarah i think from you've got to look from the leadership to a certain extent
51:03i'm hearing you i hear what you said i heard what he said i think it's team manager my interpretation
51:08of what you two said is that she's to blame sarah why shouldn't you get fired well i don't believe
51:16that i should be fired because number one i genuinely want to work here i want to work for you and i've
51:22demonstrated that over the last few weeks no one has carried me in sales and the one day that i perhaps
51:29had a low day it's funny how we didn't hit the sales i hired the promotional girls i thought that
51:35was a very good idea and i negotiated again with the agency to give us a bit of a discount speak to
51:41me from your heart i am that's what i'm giving you you're reading you're reading me you're reading
51:44me a speech there i'm not i'm giving you results sir i'm asking you a simple question right why
51:50shouldn't you be fired you've been here for weeks yeah why not because i am the best salesperson you
51:55will ever see in this boardroom you've heard me use the terminology portfolio of skills yeah do you
52:00think that's all i need a salesperson i've got lots of salespeople but they couldn't sit in my seat
52:06the salespeople are what they are salespeople margaret seems to think when she followed you around
52:12and nick has followed you around that you tend to not listen to anybody that you have your own view
52:16and that's what we're doing and that's it i think that's strong leadership in certain areas
52:20sir alan because sometimes i have to listen to people sometimes you can't get anybody more
52:24autocratic than me i think as a salesperson you do have a good variety of skills i think you need to
52:30lead you need to demonstrate good listening skills you need to communicate with lots of different
52:35people and you need people say you know sorry you blag it well if i blag it why don't you try it
52:40because i can tell you if it was a sales situation or any other situation where people are involved
52:46i will get a result and somebody somebody else may not get that result yeah you know someone asked
52:51me recently what is my philosophy on on business and what is my style and you use the word that i
52:57don't like the sound of this blagging because blagging is a very short-term view it is a very
53:03very short-term view because you see people i do business with i've been dealing with them for 20 30
53:09years now they never they don't they don't i'm not saying we go out dancing with each other socializing
53:14but they have a respect for me and the respect is honesty straightforward what you see is what
53:21you get they don't get blagged because you know people that you blag don't end up dealing with you
53:26any in the long term what i was trying to say is that people who look at me in the short term think
53:32i am blagging it but i'm exactly what you've said i am honest what you see is what you get i'm not scheming
53:39and that's perhaps you know where i always put myself on a bit of an edge because i'm quite happy
53:44to take the responsibility for my actions you're hanging your hat on sales is that what you're
53:49saying and forcefulness in talking people into doing things and you're and are you saying to me
53:54are you making the mission that perhaps your administrative qualities are not as good absolutely
54:00no way my administrative skills are just as good i'm the person that was saying this table is a mess
54:05guys let's clear it up there's too much paper on here i'm the one that did you know typed up an
54:11agenda for exactly what we should be doing and who should be meeting raj typed it up but we came up
54:16with the agenda we sat sat down my agenda's sort of handwritten you have to be organized in sales
54:22otherwise it would be chaos
54:23sarah you're abrupt you're abrasive you sometimes overstep the mark
54:39i put the failure of this task actually firmly in your court
54:43but i'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt simply because of the past things that you've
54:55done right but i've got my eyes open on you at the moment on this abrasiveness this rubbing people
55:02up the wrong way and rudeness my business is selling to mature businessmen like me who are not
55:08going to be very very happy in being spoken to like a washerwoman in the streets get that in your head
55:14okay raj i'm not gonna i'm gonna put you out your misery my friend i'm sorry to say i'm gonna have to
55:22let you go you're fine
55:34listen i'm not gonna kiss you mate
55:54listen mate we will see you on the other side yes don't cry
56:07babes listen mate good luck it's been a laugh
56:12listen mate good luck it's been a laugh
56:22okay
56:42Overall, I suppose Tyra was at fault, you know, but you know what, I don't think she
56:55deserved for anybody to say that, so I refuse to say it, I might have said it in a roundabout
57:00way, but you know, I'm lucky she's stayed it, I'm glad she's stayed it, because I think
57:02over the, of what I haven't met, she's been, you know, she has shown amongst everybody
57:06or so, you know, if it were me or her, you know, I'm happy, I'm happy to be the full
57:11of her.
57:14One job, now just five candidates. Sir Alan's search for his apprentice continues.
57:22Next week, Sir Alan sets a fresh challenge.
57:26You are going to have an hour, each team, live on national television. One of these selling
57:33channels. Let's be honest, if it falls to pieces, you've only lost £24.99.
57:38You've got no time for mistakes. I'll be really honest, you've not picked that well in my opinion.
57:42Edible pens, please. Stand by everybody, ten seconds. Hello, somebody. You get the big
57:48yoghurt maker. Wobble it to the camera. Look at that. Creamy. It's creamy. Put your finger
57:54in it. Oh. If you fluff it, then you're not going to sell anything on top of looking a bloody
57:59idiot. Down to the last five candidates. Who will be the next to go? I don't want to
58:06end up in the boardroom with the rudest man in Britain. What a lot of bollocks.
