00:00this is not a game this is a 12-week job interview it's a dog-eat-dog situation
00:1114 people have come to London in search of a job there is no phone in here there is no text a
00:22number there is no panel of judges I'm the one that decides who gets fired and I'm going to be
00:29the one ultimately who decides who gets hired they've come to battle it out for a job with
00:35Sir Alan Sugar I am the most belligerent person that you could ever come across tough and straight
00:42talking Sir Alan's built a business empire worth 800 million pounds business is not about coming
00:50piss my money up the wall he's offering one job with a six-figure salary to get it they're going
00:58to have to live and work together don't get me around quite frankly I'd like to get rid of the
01:04bleeding free of you this is the ultimate job interview you're fired you're fine you're a
01:11lightweight you're fine previously on the apprentice the boys were defiant after celebrating their
01:23second straight win but Sir Alan had a shock for them a corporate reshuffle Alexa move over to the
01:31boys team Manny move over to the girls team their task to run themed restaurants at a festival hey you
01:42mess with me I can't have you up discussion in a brainstorm I want quick money tried to run the
01:48girls team with an iron fist I didn't want to be dictatorial I want an answer but Sharon rebelled give me
01:55some Sharon Sharon in my experience running businesses that is the way forward sorry do you mind if I just
02:03Alexa battled to stay in control of the boys team but she lost control of the budget to Saeed we need a hundred
02:10chickens okay and we need 45 kilos of gammon and her team lost their tempers in the kitchen you're
02:19just saying don't fucking do that don't fucking do that I want someone here to take control and deal
02:24with it both teams slashed prices to bring in the customers excuse me it's lost their pieces guys but
02:31Alexa's team had bought more than they could sell okay well done everybody they lost the task and they
02:40lost Sir Alan over 800 pounds I'm really angry Alexa took Dun and Saeed back into the boardroom I hold
02:47you a hundred percent responsible and I gave 150 percent I hold you a hundred percent responsible but Alexa
02:55you're a very very bad manager you're a lightweight you're fired Alexa became the fourth casualty of the
03:05boardroom 14 candidates now 10 remain to fight for the chance to become the apprentice back at the house
03:17the candidates try to guess who's been fired I think your whole project was completely riddled with
03:24errors and I think any project manager that allows you guys to do what you did not us guys we didn't do
03:30anything wrong Saeed walks around the kitchen all day trying to because he wanted to oversee everything
03:35in the cook in the kitchen so that if anyone so then if anyone said what you're doing he could say
03:39I'm overseeing so and so and so and so I walked in and this young girl came over to me and said who's that
03:45bloke who's that bloke I said oh Saeed I go doesn't do very much does he I thought both Dun and Saeed
03:52I've worked in restaurants before I think Saeed maybe worked in McDonald's but that's about it
04:09what did he say to you I I really fought my corner I gave sir Alan just as good as I got you know I
04:38think you know he sort of made it very clear that is it would be keeping an eye on me yeah yeah yeah
04:43yeah yeah yeah yeah absolutely you spent most of time swanning around Saeed I'm surprised that you came back
04:47well swanning around really Alexa didn't do it I'm just really disappointed that nobody was prepared to
04:55step up to the mark and I did and I gave it 110 percent so I don't really care what anyone else thinks
05:08it's five a.m. hello he wants you to meet him at Stansted airport at eight o'clock this morning
05:20okay thank you bye
05:24oh shit they've had four hours sleep
05:28guys it's gonna be at Stansted airport at eight o'clock and you need your passport
05:33we're not gonna be air stewardesses for the day are we
05:56I love your tea tea or coffee I don't know why I get a really good feel like you'd be sort of in
06:03your element now I think I'd be quite good at it the jet sent out what's this all about
06:08sir Alan has summoned the teams to the headquarters of his luxury jet business
06:20to unveil his latest idea a financial product good morning morning sir Alan one of my companies is an
06:29air charter company what we do is we fly very important people around pop stars rock bands
06:36politicians executives we have one problem and that is finding a polite way of saying sorry we're not
06:45going anywhere until we get the money now this product here the AMS air sky card solves that
06:52problem it entitles the person that holds this card to call up any air charter company in the world
06:59and it will be accepted by them now this task is all about advertising now what I've lined up is one
07:07of the largest advertising agencies in the world Saatchi and Saatchi and you two teams are going to drum up an
07:14advertising campaign for this card using all of their facilities right it's time to mix the
07:21teams up a little bit but I'll tell you what I'm going to do first of all I'm going to appoint the team
07:26leaders Ruth you're the team leader would you step forward Paul you're going to be the team leader would
07:34you step forward Ruth pick two fellows to join your team I'd like Ansel and Samuel please over you go
07:42Paul you pick two ladies Sharon and Michelle you know what you got to do the team that comes up with the
07:51best advertising campaign is going to win the one that doesn't is going to lose and in that team one
07:56of you is going to get fired don't forget I'm the one that's going to decide which advertising campaign
08:02is the best one back to London time to talk I do have to say like when I heard who she was picking and
08:14I realized she was left I was a little bit like fuck yeah to be honest because I don't know the
08:18strength of the team now Paul's new team has no experience in the creative industries except Sharon who
08:27used to teach advertising I think she's going to be a linchpin to the whole of this project because
08:32she's done the advertising she's you do lecturing don't you yeah you've done all it always kind of
08:37this whole thing before so definite next stop Saatchi and Saatchi the world-famous ad agency that
08:47prefers to call itself an ideas company they claim their ideas transform a brand into something they call
08:55a love mark that inspires loyalty beyond reason when you came in this morning you might have
09:01noticed on the steps an inscription and that inscription says nothing is impossible believe me individually
09:08in his teams you're going to need to demonstrate that nothing is impossible attitude over the next
09:12two days because Alan has set you one hell of a corker of a creative challenge kill following 48 hours
09:21from now both teams must present a TV ad and a billboard poster to Saatchi's MD John Wright and
09:27creative director Kate Stanners we recruit people in terms of their ability to come up with great ideas
09:33they haven't got very long to do this in our world we get well it'd be nice but usually 12 weeks to do
09:42something of this size that's going from being given a brief to coming up with an idea to executing it
09:48so they have very very little time this is industry this is our R&D lab where we develop strategies and ideas and you're going to be working in this the blue sky room yeah so I hope it inspires you come up with some brilliant ideas
10:07yeah with the office sorted Ruth sends Manny and Ansel to meet Sir Alan's son
10:12hello hi Philip I'm pleased to meet you hi Daniel Sugar hi Daniel Ansel please meet you Daniel Sugar is
10:19the MD of Sir Alan's private jet business very simply we offer those jets for charter to an exclusive client base
10:28although the card is a dummy Sir Alan has asked his son to fully brief the candidates on the features
10:34he'd like to see advertised if it was launched we take care of every single detail you know the
10:40facility of having up to quarter of a million pounds worth of credit yeah and where the sky card holders
10:47will benefit from is we have an internal client concierge service and you know it's it's service that isn't
10:53available anywhere else yeah convenience yeah exclusivity it we also have access exclusive access to over what is
11:02it 5,000 5,000 jets how will we know that you are happy with what we come up with that's why you're doing this town
11:13here we go so how did that go yeah it was good good really nice guys excellent guys won't give too much away because obviously they want us to do the work and that's what we're here for
11:24now Manny and Ansel must give an accurate account to the team of Daniel Sugar's key points
11:30what they said is look it's top engine the people that you're dealing with this is the way that they
11:35deal with things and times important and so on and so forth the main thing I think yeah the main thing I
11:41think they highlighted which was the concierge services you're saying to concierge right I need a hotel
11:47hotel restaurant nightclub whatever you need yeah that's yours as soon as you charge to the aircraft
11:53yeah that's the biggest that's the biggest USP then you can nobody else has got it have you got any ideas on which direction you want to go in
11:59well I'm keen to pick up on that concierge thing but you know what it's the same person so the person who
12:06closes your car door is the same person in a different uniform who opens your the same person on the plate and it's your personal concierge all the way through the
12:16experience 3 30 the teams have been brainstorming for five hours but in Saatchi's blue sky room Paul's team have yet to find inspiration
12:29I just want to get this idea out before I lose it yeah golf course an actual jet on the golf course wrapped around in this sort of colors
12:47actual jet on the golf course with this in the bottom you know
12:51you know okay does everyone feel as though everything's going all right at the moment yeah I just
12:58it's very a little bit nervous because I don't feel like we've got but I think we've got a nail stuff but
13:03with the clock ticking Paul sends Michelle and Saeed to view locations while the rest of the team cast actors but
13:13without a concept for their campaign they have no idea what they're looking for
13:19how you doing I'm Paul
13:21Keith
13:22pleased to meet you Keith we're very new at all this so bear with us
13:24right
13:25um we were just going to ask you just to have a little walk around just for one minute
13:28yep um what about this jet that I ordered yeah four hours that's right
13:37many that's brilliant that's fantastic
13:40hi there you all right hi there yes
13:44say can I meet you in four hours or something or can I have the jet in four hours but it'd be as if you're in a rush of quite frantic
13:50can I have the jet in four hours please
13:54oh maybe not quite that dramatic
13:57thanks a lot cheers see you
14:00hi guys how you doing
14:05cool hello mate yeah good good
14:07what we're thinking about now I mean we've seen some active stuff we're thinking about like the mum and dad idea and
14:11maybe a like a quite young young daughter
14:14a mum and dad idea with daughter sounds a bit random but that's probably because we're not we're not
14:19thought we don't know it yet so when I'm when you present it to us I'm sure it'll sound grand
14:23anything else Paul yeah
14:25okay bye
14:26Ruth's team is running with an idea that revolves around a concierge
14:31all that's left is to find a suitable outfit for tomorrow's shoot
14:35I've got a burgundy
14:36can we have a look at the burgundy one please
14:37burgundy one please
14:38burgundy one
14:43it's fine
14:44does that look uh
14:45it's fine that looks smart
14:46concierge enough
14:47yeah but do they wear tails
14:48should we get it
14:49I think it's more this is too bellhop
14:51it depends on the hotel
14:52have you got any frock coats
14:54yeah
14:55you know
14:56I mean you can put them in
14:57this is too bellhoppy
14:58you look ridiculous
15:01the other half of Ruth's team have been told to make the concierge idea work for the billboard poster
15:07as an image this works for me because what it's saying is this card gives you the capability
15:12okay
15:13of hailing a plane just like a taxi
15:15whereas the first image is just
15:19yeah I mean it's
15:25do that again as though you're hailing a taxi just do that again
15:29so don't look at the card look as though you're looking at something and you're hailing it
15:32you know I think that's a very powerful image personally
15:37the concierge service we definitely want to talk about and we want to focus on
15:42I liked my ideas but I preferred the one idea that Ansell came up with which was the idea of a concierge hailing down the aeroplane
15:50the ultimate convenience is flagging down your own plane
15:55yeah
15:56of course it is
15:57flexibility
15:58ultimate flexibility is you calling it when you want it
16:01it's there when you want it
16:02yeah
16:03yeah
16:04and then ultimate experience
16:05and ultimate experience
16:07well you know it is one hell of an experience to hail a plane
16:12although Paul's team have chosen a location and actors for the next day's shoot
16:22they still don't have an idea for their campaign
16:25if we look at the jet and we look at the images that we're thinking about already
16:33it still doesn't sell the world to me
16:36and although we've got people that look fantastic
16:39unless we've got them in the right set and doing the right things and the right lifestyle
16:44we're not going to get it across
16:50five o'clock Paul's team regroups
16:52well factor we're going to really define it down
16:54there needs to be something quite original in this
16:56we have to decide on
16:57location
16:58for this is location and actors
17:00we've done that
17:01we've done that
17:02now once we've got it we can focus on it
17:03we'll blitz it now
17:04but I'm saying I don't know whether or not time wise this is going to work
17:07we're not being negative
17:08no guys listen
17:09that is good
17:10this is all so new to everyone that
17:11no I'm not being negative
17:12I don't have any better suggestions at all
17:14remember these guys are opposite
17:15our opposition are in exactly the same boat
17:17yeah
17:18but what they haven't got is the brains
17:20everyone's kind of involved
17:22Paul decides to call it a day and let his team go home
17:26tomorrow morning the candidates must shoot a 30-second TV ad and a billboard poster
17:33without an idea Paul and his team will be in trouble
17:39I just came up with an idea on the way back in the car okay
17:53what I was thinking it's all about the card yeah
17:56we've said that from day one
17:57yeah
17:58so how about this as a strap line and something to work on
18:00let us show you a card trick
18:02okay
18:04want to see some magic
18:05yes please
18:06so let us show you a card trick okay
18:08the idea is
18:09we can make 5,000 planes appear like that
18:12mm-hmm
18:13okay that's magic
18:14I absolutely love it
18:15yeah I like that
18:16want to see a card trick
18:17that's what we've got to go on
18:18it's strong
18:19I've got goosebumps thinking about that
18:20I love it
18:21this is the tagline
18:22yeah
18:23yeah
18:24want to see a card trick
18:25so no sleep
18:26no tiredness
18:27let's just get fired up like a fuck ass for the next hour
18:30okay
18:31let's see what sleep is
18:40the morning of the shoot
18:42another early start
18:46the teams only have one day to create their ad campaign
18:49so there's no time for second thoughts
18:52to put two people on telly with bags in a hotel room
18:55it's not the most imaginative is it at the moment
18:57what do you want to do then Jo?
18:59I like the idea of having to play around with
19:01let the world revolve around you as a jingle
19:04I don't think a jingle's pitching it at the right level
19:06I don't mean
19:07when I want to use the word jingle I just mean like
19:09sleep in a bed of dreams
19:11Jo
19:12there's the road where we're going
19:13and we keep going
19:14which I've got no problem with as long as we keep focused on what we're doing
19:187.15am
19:24Ruth's team are at Stansted
19:27her choice for the concierge shoot
19:30Samuel will be the director for the TV ad
19:33it'll be his job to bring to life the team's concierge idea
19:37with a professional film crew
19:39her hands kind of relaxed here
19:41and then the drink just appears
19:43the concierge appears
19:44so we don't want the concierge
19:45I've never had any experience of directing a crew or actors before
19:49so this is going to be interesting
19:52tight and then just come up
19:53exactly tight
19:54yeah absolutely
19:55but maybe when she's sat there
19:56excuse me Samuel
19:57but she's going you know
19:58a bit of like feely stuff
20:00a quarter to eight
20:02and Paul's team shows up for its photo shoot
20:04they want the hangar
20:06and they want the same plane
20:08a brand new 15 million pound luxury jet
20:12the jewel in the crown of Sir Alan's fleet
20:14excuse me guys
20:15sorry to bother you
20:17but we've been told this is our plane
20:19and we're just getting ready to move it out onto the runway there
20:23so could you maybe get off
20:25Sam, tell them to do one
20:27this is our plane
20:28they can do one
20:29fuck it
20:30right, so
20:32you and Paul on it
20:34you start out with planes what
20:35and what's that
20:36we're only going to be on it
20:37for literally ten minutes
20:38then we're going
20:39dude
20:40oh you're going to change
20:41um
20:42the other team
20:43are using our plane
20:44yeah
20:45we've got our crew
20:46we've got all the people in position
20:47so we need to use this plane
20:48we're literally going to be ten minutes
20:49then we'll be off
20:50alright
20:51give them ten minutes
20:53give them ten minutes
20:54we'll give them time to get our ship to be like
20:58having commandeered the plane
21:00sales manager Ansell
21:02and management consultant Manny
21:03get started on their team's concierge billboard
21:07so what we're doing is
21:08yeah
21:09just
21:10just taking a look at
21:11and all I can see is the cone
21:13one finger around
21:14it's as though this plane is just about to go past
21:16you've got to get it before he goes
21:17yeah
21:18just
21:19can it can
21:20yeah
21:21and I would angle it so you can see your finger
21:23that's it
21:24so you're holding it
21:25that's it
21:26perfect
21:27that's it
21:28brilliant
21:29oh these are going to be beautiful
21:30beautiful
21:31so what happens with the plane
21:34it's going to be good
21:35we're not ready to do it yet anyway are we so
21:38I just said yeah go ahead
21:39what's the weather like today captain
21:42how many stripes you got?
21:44I've got loads of stripes
21:46look how many stripes you got in a lapel
21:47because obviously the more you have
21:48the more important you are
21:49the ranks
21:50I've got three
21:51oh right it's just that I've got four
21:52he's pulled rank already
21:56in full creative flow
21:58Ruth's team are busy inside the plane
22:00shooting their TV ad
22:04I like when you
22:05yeah
22:06that is the most comfortable chair in the world
22:08but that
22:09yeah but that team
22:10outside
22:11the other team are forced to wait their turn
22:13I'm just saying can we not get it out of the way sooner?
22:15no because that's it
22:16we're not making any noise
22:17because then they're filming
22:18right okay
22:19just calm back up and listen
22:22it's just dead time
22:23um
22:24guys
22:25guys
22:26we've got a chat in
22:27can you please notch up?
22:28can you just have one quiet just for a minute
22:29and then you can do what it is
22:30can you do
22:31that woman has been done
22:32that
22:33why have we got three pints?
22:34don't you have a front chat?
22:35well it's
22:36nicely nicely doesn't bloody work does it?
22:38action
22:39madam
22:44come on
22:45Sharon and Dunn have been hanging around for over an hour
22:48and their team has shot nothing
22:50you've been too nice
22:51you think we've been too nice to them?
22:52yeah
22:53need to tell them to get out
22:54yeah
22:55do the champagne shot now
22:56okay
22:57should have a shot now
22:58yep
22:59standing by
23:00camera's yours
23:05oh
23:06oh shit
23:07quick get some tissues
23:08quick
23:13quick
23:14tissues
23:15gin and tonic anyone?
23:16with their shots in the can
23:19Ruth's team finally hands the plane over to Paul
23:21but his team is now well behind schedule
23:24can I just ask as well
23:26when you check your watch
23:27don't stand for so long
23:28don't come out and go
23:29just kind of come out and go
23:30Michelle will direct the TV ad
23:33her first shot is ambitious
23:35yeah get back in
23:37now we understand where you're coming from
23:38an executive must arrive
23:39just as a plane takes off in the background
23:41look at your watch
23:47I think we just missed that didn't we
23:49bollocks
23:50so you're going to be about here
23:52an actor called Jazzbeer is the star
23:54about there
23:55the team have decided to call him Max
23:57we're just trying to line the shots up now Max
23:59he usually works as an extra
24:02look at your watch
24:03that's a Jess as well
24:04that's a Jess
24:05look at your watch
24:06look at your watch
24:08look at your watch
24:10look at your watch
24:16look at your watch
24:17after ten dud takes
24:33Paul asks Saeed to have a go
24:35to his war right we'll shout to you okay it's my voice walk that's it i'm not going to say anything
24:49right it's done thank god for that are we ready sorry about that max right we're cool
24:58syed and paul seem to have enjoyed wearing their pilots uniforms i'm not sure if that's made them
25:02take their eye off the ball a bit certainly perhaps in paul's case get closer in boys it's not a one
25:08video he could have project managed a bit more tightly he could have taken over from michelle
25:15when she was making a bad job of directing the first shot which is where they really overran
25:21boys you look like you're having your teeth pulled out back at sachi's dune and sharon direct the
25:28layout for the billboard inspired by paul's card trick idea they want 50 planes to magically fly
25:36out of a pilot's hat it's not a hugely quick process especially in respect of cutting them out each
25:44plane has to be digitally cut out then superimposed over the hat it'll take time and the team are
25:51already behind schedule it'll take a while and i have to do that with all 150 planes oh geez right
26:01okay speak to me yeah how many planes are you thinking about cutting out right at the moment it's 50 or 60
26:07right well how long do you think it's going to take basically we'll just keep throwing the planes in
26:12until either we think that we've got enough or we run out of time dunn says absolutely guarantee on the
26:17deadline sharon says she's got a concern so how can i take that as a project manager there's definitely
26:22an issue there gareth's been cutting out all the pictures yeah about up to done in every task has
26:28looked at every angle he just over complicates things i wanted just to keep this so simple
26:34can i make a call and just say no more planes now okay
26:39yeah all i'm worried about is um time i'm just thinking we're stopping too soon no panicking so soon
26:45no i don't agree this isn't playing dangerously though this is the point well i don't want to
26:49do any more planes okay no more planes to go in there okay all right guys see you later um i think
26:55while paul makes his views clear on the cut out planes michelle and saeed look at the rushes from their
27:01shoot we've got some old geezer getting on a plane a bit stressed yeah yeah and as far as the strength of
27:14ideas goes it's not really grand do you agree with me it's a bit dull no it is it is very tough and
27:21it's only now that you see it on widescreen that you see what it looks like and paul's gonna kill me
27:27for being negative ruth's team view their rushes when you actually saw the raw material playing
27:38it looks absolutely horrific i was cringing see you soon bye it's very cheesy very corny there was
27:44a particular shot where the concierge picks the bag up and he basically looks um the businesswoman up
27:51and down he actually looked like an escort more than a concierge good afternoon madam i'll take your
27:57luggage the limousine's way too well let us show you a car trick i'm completely off paul's team choose
28:16saeed to record the commentary for their tv act the music runs out how do i sound anyway is it too croaky
28:22yeah gotta get into that mode mate you know when you're doing cold calling it's really yeah yeah
28:26yeah yeah okay the world's most exclusive aviation membership
28:34just before the deadline sharon and dunn arrive from graphics with their card trick billboard
28:40that is absolutely brilliant just like it very much that is really good right let's show you let's show
28:45you this ready well let us show you a car trick access to 5 000 private jets within four hours notice
28:54no hidden charges no commitment to flying hours now that's magic how did you laugh at a particular
29:00point just because i just thought it was funny because this is my worry these birth have walked in
29:05a laugh i think that looks rubbing rubbing himself off
29:07i didn't know i see that but yeah it's it's the fact that he's moving his hand slightly there i know
29:15we just can't you thought about cutting that whole thing out no one's gonna really pick up and
29:18thinking that he's wanking or anything like that hang on the second that these two walked in and
29:22saw it for the first time they're both best out laughing at that point no hidden charges no commitment
29:27to flying hours now that's magic
29:29the world's most exclusive aviation membership what are you thinking it does it just looks like
29:39he's um you can't say these guys now because it's far too late it doesn't matter it doesn't
29:46it's been a long day ruth's team regrouped to view one another's results this catch catch line
29:53because these little bullet points well not bullet points but these things
29:56well explain what this is wait until you see how that links into the advert because it's literally
30:03a trend you would actually watch the advert and then think that yeah that's the billboard
30:09i'll be there in a few hours in fact that's a concierge now this is the first and last chance
30:16manny has to see how his teammates have interpreted the concierge idea can i just give you my my take and
30:22this is a 60 000 feet take on on the whole campaign right um when they talk about a concierge service
30:33you don't have a guy in a concierge outfit knocking on your door what they mean is if you need something
30:39done someone will get it done for you some of the team members don't really understand the concept of
30:47concierge don't misunderstand what i'm saying we'll clarify what you mean because i'm not getting
30:51wait what they're saying it's like having your own concierge it's symbolic of the service it's
30:57symbolic of the service exactly just a bit too subtle that's a person on a phone who sorts things
31:04things out for you it's not a person dressed up as a concierge who comes and takes your bag and takes
31:10you to the airplane and i'm not sure if my team members understand that the morning of the
31:27presentations team leader paul is in the garden rehearsing his pitch no it's the car that the sexy
31:34bit of the product it's the car that's a sexy bit it's the car that we're promoting not the jet but
31:40having slept on the idea his teammates are still unsure if i'm going to be honest yeah i still don't
31:49think we've got a strength of advert um yeah although i do appreciate that it's way too late to change it
31:55you know well i think where we were lacking saeed is creative ideas we hardly had any and even right
32:02till the very end people were trying to be a little bit negative i still think this is do i give a
32:06shit i'm about to go and give a pitch i need to be 110 confident in what i'm doing are you helping me
32:11now on what i'm doing no it's my idea i've got belief in it just let me run with it
32:19the teams are fired up for a face-to-face pitch to john and kate from saatchi's
32:33if you want to come through but behind the doors waits the entire creative department hello
32:51good morning
33:05everyone here is an advertising professional and they all want to know what paul's team have to offer
33:10good luck thank you well hello everyone i'm glad you all could make it i was worried a few of you
33:20might drop out but uh thanks for all making it now looking at the kind of people that use this
33:25facility two hours is a lot of time for these people a rock star could write a new music him
33:30a new poem a new anything a new lyric a new album the royal family could spend more time on the throne
33:36okay you look at their politicians you know they could sit on the fence more
33:43so does anyone want to see a car trick say yes paul there you go
33:52not much to it was there really that's it the card the card trick but out of 52 cards that i could
33:58have pulled out i wanted this one anyway what's so special about it what's the trick five thousand
34:03airplanes right now within four hours it's magic okay so can we play the advert
34:15the luxurious lifestyle can take its toll hotels to book drivers to hire even yachts to charter at any
34:22time day or night
34:23well let us show you a car trick access to five thousand private jets within four hours notice
34:33no hidden charges no commitment to flying hours now that's magic
34:41okay that's our advert the most famous magical saying ever is abracadabra and with that something
34:48always instantly appears abracadabra instantly 250 000 pounds worth of credit for air travel
34:54everyone seen the three cups trick one cup nothing there two cup nothing there ours would be third cup
34:59nothing there no hidden charges okay maybe something about the the no quibble service so someone stood
35:05there literally dodging swords no hassle so i want to ask you a question do you believe in magic because we
35:12believe nothing is impossible does anybody have any questions that they'd like to ask me or the team
35:20magic for me just feels a bit musical i'm not quite sure totally it's um when you started talking about
35:27throwing swords and it just felt a bit cliched okay okay thanks for your time okay thank you
35:34thank you thank you the team step out what are your thoughts on this campaign um just given the
35:44sophistication of the target audience they talked about i'm not sure borrowing an enline from paul daniels
35:48was that wise oh ruth's team arrives on the other team manny is the most experienced at presenting
35:59but ruth has refused to let him do the pitch i made it absolutely clear to ruth that i am a complete
36:09expert in presenting and that you just give me something and i will knock the audience flat with
36:15anything you give me it's what i do for a living if we lose this task i think ruth will have a lot of
36:23answering to do manny was an obvious choice to pitch because he does in his day job two reasons not
36:32for picking him number one i know in previous tasks um he has made three pitches two have been very poor
36:40and one was okay and also it's become apparent in the latter stages that he's not 100 brought into the
36:47idea one of the areas that we've picked up is the concierge service okay we've highlighted
36:53that because we believe that's a key differentiator in terms of the service that's going to be
36:58offered so hopefully you'll see that come across in terms of the advertising campaign and also the
37:03billboard campaign their advert begins i'll be there in a few hours in fact that's a concierge now
37:15a caption on screen access to more than five thousand aircraft of all sizes worldwide
37:21any aircraft any location within four hours notice the amser platinum skycard your gateway to the
37:29world's most exclusive private aviation club let the world revolve around you you've chosen to
37:37concentrate you're talking about the concierge service as one of the benefits is that because
37:42you think that is the differentiating factor that without a doubt is one of the unique selling points
37:48because no other service offers it to the extent that ams there do firstly i'd like to congratulate
37:54you you really for my money anyway really understood the nature of each of the media and that's real
38:00credit to you so well done great okay thank you very much thank you very much thank you very much
38:04so alan's car pulls up beside a plane but there's only one person who decides which team will win
38:28so alan takes off in a jet on his way to the boardroom sir alan speaks to kate and john
38:40to get their final views perhaps you'd like to tell me what what your findings are for us they showed
38:45that they've got an idea with great potential that's interesting right the shift for me is um in paul's
38:52um technique and uh delivery which of the two which you said is a better advertising campaign
39:02his plane touches down
39:06on route sir alan also gets a chance to see the team's work
39:12the team's billboards are on display sir alan looks over at them from the window of his car
39:17he sits back in his seat and considers
39:29as sir alan travels through london the teams are waiting outside the boardroom
39:36five weeks ago these ten men and women left their jobs for a chance to become sir alan's apprentice
39:43today one will be sent home
39:51doan wipes his eyes go through to the boardroom now
39:57they head inside margaret and nick are sitting on the opposite side of the table
40:01so alan arrives
40:13good morning
40:17you know that whilst i've listened to um what sarchies have had to say i'm the one that's going
40:23to make the ultimate decision i've got your videos loaded we'll display them on this plasma screen
40:31ruth yeah off you go
40:36i'll be there in a few hours in fact that's a concierge now
40:48the amser platinum skycard your gateway to the world's most exclusive private aviation club
40:55let the world revolve around you who was the um inspiration in your team samuel came up with a
41:03vision of exactly what we're going to do with the advert joe came up with a theme i've let the world
41:08revolve around you but it was basically the concierge theme that was all developed by the group so you
41:13all collectively had a debate based upon my briefing and and all that once we'd got the fat farm from
41:18the client yeah okay all right off you go can you cue the video please
41:27the luxurious lifestyle can take its toll hotels to book drivers to hire even yachts to charter
41:33at any time day or night well let us show you a car trick access to 5 000 private jets within four
41:41hours notice no hidden charges no commitment to flying hours now that's magic what happened on this
41:49side paul who would you say is responsible for uh all these tricks not a lot of creative ideas came out
41:55on that first day uh the brainstorming everyone was disappointed with the your team with the lack of
42:00ideas i was to be honest yeah um so you're saying that this is really your inspiration yeah it had to
42:06be in the end yeah and there'd be no creativity in particular you know sharon had mentioned that
42:11this was her background and this is what she would love to do and she's been doing this she's taught
42:14advertising so i really was relying on some creativity which i didn't get really you've been taught
42:18advertising no i've been teaching advertising oh teaching advertising right i see yeah
42:26all right listen folks there's got to be a winner and there's got to be a loser
42:37the winning team is paul's team
42:42paul buries his face in his hands and breathes a sigh of relief
42:47i think that his advertising campaign in some respects is mediocre
42:56but i'm the client and they got nearest to what i'm advertising and i'm afraid to say that you didn't
43:08i've got a nice treat lined up for you you might know that this week is london fashion week
43:13i've got you pole position seats right on the catwalk with a champagne reception
43:19go off and enjoy yourself have fun yeah thank you welcome regretfully you've lost you'll be coming
43:26back in the boardroom shortly to discuss this in much more detail as you know one of you is going to get
43:32fired get in get in paul's team share a celebratory heart oh my god i thought we were dead and buried
43:45oh guys it's talking superstars i just needed i thought ice was better i thought theirs was cheap with the magic yeah now that's magic
44:00paul and his team are on the road on their way to the fashion show paul's team get to see both billboards
44:07oh look look there's other teams that am i care oh my god
44:23now the teammates are enjoying the fashion show from their front row seats paul
44:28there's no doubt in my mind that i'm going to win it i'm definitely going to be his apprentice
44:34i'm proving that i'm the best there's no one else there can touch me
44:39well done everyone
44:45neither of us deserve to lose but unfortunately it's the way it goes one of us has to
44:49i'm just glad it won't us and we're here something champagne instead
44:54the losing team members are sitting in a cafe
44:59while paul's team celebrates ruth's team has time to reflect on what went wrong
45:05ruth very disappointed yeah
45:14you can lose um the task um or be beaten and i think we were beaten
45:21it's tough call to decide uh who's who's to blame
45:24i thought our ad was finished better i thought it was more visual as well but maybe unbiased
45:33yeah consider it wasn't anything that no ruth has made some fundamental errors on this task she gets
45:41things done but she doesn't always do the right thing i think he's got no no option but to um fire ruth
45:47and her team wait apprehensively outside the boardroom back at the boardroom the losers are about to face sir alan
45:58ruth ruth looks down on her team sitting in the leather sofas
46:05other sofas
46:12hello jenny would you um call them in please
46:15the team members take their seats opposite sir alan
46:24so alan looks up and down the line of losing candidates sitting in front of him
46:35do me a favor folks watch my mouth a b c d e am i speaking english yeah
46:49good no that's good because for one moment i thought when we were down there at stansted i might
46:54have been talking in russian what has upset me about this is that the work and the effort did go
47:02into it but you advertise the wrong product what you're effectively advertising is the private jet
47:09service your whole campaign to me is talking about concierge service service and service and service
47:17you're selling an airline service and it's got really nothing at all to do with what this card
47:23was supposed to offer as i told you at stansted this card benefits the customers that normally
47:29use this kind of service it would ring their bells if they knew that there was a card which
47:35would be a no quibble way of accepting a booking for a flight that's the point
47:42i just will while you're here just for your benefit critique a little bit some of the stuff
47:46that you've done and let's run this tv advert again i'll be there in a few hours in fact that's
47:55a concierge now a look of a mild disgust appears on sir alan's face as he watches the screen
48:01the amazon platinum skycard your gateway to the world's most exclusive private aviation club
48:17let the world revolve around you i did have a preview of that tape before nick actually gave it to me when
48:24i first watched it i thought he'd mixed it up with one of his uh other videos to me that looks like a
48:281970s porno movie debbie does dallas um and
48:35so do you recognize that you have advertised the wrong feature of ams air yes right okay good and so
48:43please as the team leader yeah right now tell me where it went wrong okay it went wrong at the fat fine
48:50stage the message came back loud and clear that the concierge when the guys went away it did sorry
48:56manny did it did very clearly not for me i'm sorry it did very clearly against and that's why we drove
49:01the creative process of all those money money we had a number of points but we did put the concierge
49:07i didn't you did i did not prioritize concierge let me just tell you i was in the meeting yeah
49:13when they gave 14 points key points the 14th was a reference to the concierge yeah maybe a throwaway line
49:20oh by the way it does that also just like the 14th point just like on this i've got them here okay
49:25manny come back and the statement that was made and we all went yeah that's right with the word i've
49:30not mentioned concierge at all i'm thinking that what's gone wrong here is that we've had the wrong
49:37information either fed to the group or the group as a whole has gone in the wrong direction
49:44manny nods gently ruth yeah you know what you've got to do now i do you know that one of you is
49:55going to get fired here you know that you've got to bring two people back into this boardroom with
49:59you okay yeah so you call it who's coming back in the boardroom money and joe
50:03you two go back to the house you three i'll call you back in here later
50:13the team members file out of the boardroom
50:20joe and samuel share a hug
50:21just like using a ticket surprise surprise hello nice
50:36joe's pacing the floor whilst manny stares into space
50:44nick to sir alan and margaret the guys that went to the briefing misled the rest of the team and from
50:50then on it was a disaster because they were tearing off down the wrong way well she's let ansel go yeah
50:55why she let ansel go
51:00well okay
51:07uh jenny send the three of them in please ruth joe and manny head back into the boardroom
51:12ruth why why joe because to me manny and ansel were the ones that people are saying came back and
51:25briefed them with the wrong thing so what's why joe during this task this is the best task that i've
51:29seen joe perform on but she made knee-jerk reactions and knee-jerk decisions yeah i've got no problem with
51:36people questioning or people saying i don't like that but to then say there's a problem but this is the
51:41solution but then just go actually i don't like that and there's the problem that's not going to
51:44benefit the team in that short time around that's a natural process that you know at the end of the
51:48day i'm in here to make sure that we get the best ad campaign okay so if there's some deliberation in
51:53my mind about questioning some decisions we made i'll do it so i'm absolutely convinced that we've got
51:58the right thing you know let's have a break here that many yeah uh many who and i and i use this
52:05words in the politest manner boasts on his cv about presenting himself in front of ego crazed people
52:12knows how to control them helps arrive at a consensus of how to approach a business challenge
52:18now did you help arrive at a consensus of how to approach the business challenge here tried many
52:24times sir um what happened then you got suppressed well well no i mean ruth is a fairly autocratic manager
52:31she gets things done sorry put that in planning can i finish well tell me well don't get aggressive
52:35let me finish tell me what you mean by autocratic if she's given a deadline well look in the dictionary
52:39i've not time for this if if she's given a deadline she will get it done as well she'll get it done in
52:44the deadline however she's made some fundamental just massive mistakes on decisions on this task
52:50she has for sure well you came back from the briefing and you made the fundamental error as far as i'm
52:56concerned in letting this lot go off um on a wild goose chase advertising something that i didn't ask
53:02you to advertise from talking with daniel and philip it was clear to me that the key point here is this
53:08is a win-win for both amser oh too late now mate too late now the photograph's been done and the tv advert's
53:14been done consistently throughout these two days and it's written on on my work i saw this as an analogy
53:21it's like a concierge i'm the only one who seemed to understand you never got that point across in
53:27the group it's on the it's on all right watch your hand you never actually got can i just ask you a
53:31question you said that i made fundamental errors in the decisions yes the group actually made the
53:36decisions all the way around i went to every single person and said do you agree do you agree do you
53:41agree do you agree if you haven't got and to put it politely the balls to actually say actually no
53:47i don't agree and take some accountability for what you're saying which in all the tasks of being
53:52with you you don't take accountability you don't come across and say actually i disagree with that
53:57you do sit on the back burner let me give you an example of the way ruth makes decisions we were trying
54:03to decide who should who should present and i am a world-class presenter i haven't had given it
54:07haven't been given an opportunity to show that the thing is manny is that when i first came across you
54:12you gave the impression that you do this presenting for a profession and yet they haven't chosen you
54:18as as as the presenter it appears to me that they didn't have the confidence in you four weeks ago
54:25in one in your first team i had people like you calling in the anchor and then it funny five weeks
54:30later our time can change you seem to have gone from anchor to wanker but sir alan manny why do i get
54:36the feeling that you're very good when it comes to you know saving your own neck you know what i mean i have
54:42to look at me i've got no choice yeah but i mean who then out of these three here should go if it's
54:47not you well it certainly shouldn't be i mean ultimately she's made the decisions ruth i want
54:53to hear from you why you think that the actual going off the rails so to speak wasn't your fault
54:59it was actually as a team leader right number one i wasn't at the fact find i sent to the point
55:04it's not the point as a manager you send out your troops yeah into the field they come back
55:08yeah and you might be saying to them what i'm saying to you now what the bloody hell was you
55:12doing for the last two hours because don't start telling me about concierges and service and all
55:18this nonsense this is not what sir alan wants me to advertise they actually came back and the first
55:24point that money raised was the cause i did i did not so he thinks you should go who do you think
55:30should go out of this lot to my mind there's managers in life that bring out the best in people
55:33as managers that either quash people or don't let them have the say so
55:42here it is joe i've got a very very very serious problem with you you have been in this room how
55:49many times three three and three times in the past five weeks okay look joe i'm sorry there's that
55:56message there to me that is causing me a lot of concern the other side of my concern is you manny
56:04my concerns about whether really you are my man
56:10also causing me a concern is about you ruth is that whether you should be held responsible for
56:16the fatal error in this thing i've come to the conclusion out of all three of you that manny you're
56:28five
56:31ruth joe and manny get to their feet and head out ruth puffs out her cheeks in relief and joe and manny embrace
56:42you better go after yourself don't get yourself in there again
56:44manny takes his luggage and walks out
56:57doormen open a pair of glass doors and manny meets a waiting taxi
57:01he opens the door and climbs inside
57:16i don't think sir alan has seen the best of me i haven't peaked yet i haven't really shown what i'm
57:20capable of
57:24you win some you lose some so it just hasn't rolled my way on this occasion
57:30the taxi heads through the london streets
57:32one job now nine candidates sir alan's search for an apprentice continues
57:41next week the teams are thrown into the motor trade
57:50you are going to be selling secondhand cars look at all those cars packed there
57:55in this environment time is money
57:58do that and we will go ahead and do that
58:00can you just go and sell please please
58:04it's an absolute joke hello this is your local friendly uh salesperson
58:09that offer there is for today only well done mate first car
58:12that's an excuse i'm just having the time yeah
58:14bullshit honestly i want to have the conversation again
58:17it's been a disaster
58:19in the cutthroat world of car sales who will fail to make the grade
58:23would i buy a second-hand car off for you no
58:29hello and welcome to the apprentice you're fired where we give the poor devil who's been given
58:33the heave ho the chance to relive the whole miserable experience that's on bbc three now
58:38online where's our project manager anywhere
58:42it's an absolute joke
58:45don't worry about it we don't we exclusive news video clips and much more the apprentice online at the
58:51new broadband website bbc.co.uk
58:54bbc2
58:59you
