00:00You're watching the pictures, so much emotion.
00:03Is it pride? Is it regret? What is it?
00:06No, look, very proud of the boys, of what we've done tonight.
00:11Obviously, the two girls at the start killed us.
00:13But we showed great belief, great character to get back into the game.
00:16Look, we won the second leg, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough.
00:20What changed in the second half?
00:23I couldn't tell you, man.
00:25I just felt like at halftime, we had nothing to lose.
00:28That's what we said in there.
00:30We wanted to go out there and, you know, just prove a point.
00:34You know, the boys dug deep, we pressed well.
00:37I think you could see that.
00:39And we had chances, we did.
00:41And I think I scored the hardest one.
00:43But, look, it is what it is, and we move on.
00:46Yeah, what do you scored at 3-2? What do you think?
00:48Great disappointment at halftime in the way Villa had set about in that first half.
00:51But how pleased are you, Daniel, that they're going out
00:53having shown that performance in the second?
00:56I mean, look, they'll be disappointed, but proud of their performance.
00:59The second half, certainly, you know, they came out and gave it their best shot.
01:04Structurally, defensively, they were a lot more sound as well.
01:08They were brave.
01:09And it was those chances that you talked about in the interview there where you're thinking,
01:13maybe this could be going to extra time or they could win the game.
01:16Everything that they gave in that second half, they can be proud of themselves.
01:19Look, they've probably done a lot more than everyone would have anticipated anyway.
01:23But to get to this point, and you're probably 20 minutes away from getting through,
01:27you think you probably got home disappointed.
01:29And there were chances, Ashley.
01:31There was plenty.
01:32We said it at halftime there to be a bit more sound at the back and tighten up.
01:38And they've done that.
01:39And when you're scoring a couple of goals and, you know, you're creating more and more chances,
01:43you're thinking there's going to be another one that comes.
01:46And, you know, I think Ezra will be disappointed with the header.
01:50You know, I think there was one that Pal Torres took off Amadou's head.
01:53And it is disappointed, but they can also be proud as well.
01:57Like Daniel said there, you know, everybody wouldn't have thought they would have got this far in the competition.
02:01You know, they could be proud of what they've done, especially in the second half.
02:05But, you know, I think they'll look back after the game and think,
02:07if our first half performance was different, could the game have been a bit different?
02:10Absolutely.
02:11Let's go back to that first half, but not to the PSG goals.
02:13Let's go back to Tielemans to make it 5-1.
02:16And at this point, you think, yeah, those chances, those saves, the difference tonight,
02:21Mattson at the end there, you know, what would have been, what could have been.
02:24But the experience, Wayne, that this whole group takes from this journey this season,
02:29they've got a big game at the weekend in the Premier League against Newcastle,
02:32who are also vying for Champions League places.
02:35Keeping that energy going is going to be really important in the next couple of weeks.
02:38Yeah, they need to really let this go for the time being,
02:42because obviously they want to be in this competition again.
02:45So they've got a fight on their hands to finish it high enough in the league to make sure they do that.
02:49But, yeah, it's, they've been so close.
02:54They take really good experience from it going into next season, if they can qualify.
02:57So I think the focus now has to be rest, recover and get ready for the weekend.
03:01That's the main thing for them now.
03:03Yeah, and presumably you've all talked or alluded to experience.
03:06You get experience from these experiences, but do they need to bring some more experience into this squad?
03:11I think possibly.
03:12You know, like you say, they've had this experience of the season being in the Champions League.
03:17And, you know, I think a few more experiences, they might have done it differently in the first half,
03:21especially in their first 20 minutes.
03:23I don't think they would have been as gung-ho as they were if they've got more experience in the team.
03:27But like we said, you know, they've got to dust themselves down.
03:30They've got a big game at the weekend.
03:31They want to get themselves into Champions League places.
03:34They've got a massive semi-final coming up.
03:35So, you know, the season's not over.
03:37It's been a fantastic season.
03:39But I think they will be thinking about that first half and what went wrong.
03:43It continues as well, right?
03:44Experience means also now how do you get out of this defeat and turn things around and be ready again?
03:51Because that happens.
03:52We've seen there was only one week in between the last match and this match with Paris Saint-Germain as well.
03:57So that capacity to turn page will be part of that process.
04:03So it's not just the Champions League playing, but also how you deal with this moment.
04:08And being competitive on multi-formats, you know, being competitive still on three-formats until tonight.
04:12Yeah, but I think a big thing for them now is definitely finishing the Champions League
04:16because, you know, you see Asensio, Rashford, for them to keep them players,
04:20and I hope they don't, I hope Rashford goes back to Manchester United and performs like he did tonight
04:24because that's what we all want to see as Man United fans.
04:28But to keep them players or attract players to play in the Champions League,
04:31they have to finish in the Champions League again because this would be a waste
04:34if they don't finish in the Champions League spots this season.
04:37Yeah, and that would be, you know, a great shame, wouldn't it,
04:40for them to take this experience and not have another go.
04:43And we saw last season Arsenal get to the quarter-final stage
04:46and they're hoping to push on after a seven-year absence, six-year absence.
04:50And for Aston Villa, it's been much longer, hasn't it?
04:52You know, so to even get to this stage after that gap, that period of time,
04:56is an impressive performance.
04:57Yeah, of course it is, and that's what Unai will be telling the players there, I think.
05:02You know, we've come this far, but we don't want to just settle on this.
05:06We want to go further. We want to do much more.
05:08Like we've been saying, that, you know, it'll probably bring more experience in.
05:11He'll have that experience of what's going on tonight.
05:14And like you're saying, you want to attract more players to the football club
05:18and you want to do that in a way where you've got Champions League to offer them next season.
05:21So that's what they'll be looking to do.
05:23They'll be looking and concentrating on this weekend's game,
05:27you know, dusting themselves down after tonight,
05:29getting disappointment out, like Clemson said, and worrying about the league.
05:34If we're being partial rather than impartial tomorrow night,
05:38Arsenal have a chance to go through and they've got that three-goal lead, of course, against Real Madrid.
05:42If they manage that, or whoever goes through,
05:45will they have looked at PSG's performance tonight
05:47and found places where they think they can exploit them in a semi-final?
05:50The second half, certainly.
05:52It would have given people a slight blueprint, but every team's different.
05:58I think the management of the game for Villa in the second half
06:02will give teams an understanding of the problems they can pose.
06:06PSG in possession, and out of possession,
06:09because I think this was probably one of the first times I saw them rattled,
06:12especially we watched them against Liverpool,
06:13and they were absolutely fantastic against Liverpool in both legs.
06:16Liverpool had their moments, but I think this game tonight,
06:19certainly in the second half, I didn't anticipate it would be like that.
06:22I think we all went in thinking, OK, it's probably game over,
06:25and Villa came out and were right at it,
06:27and as I said, did a more structured version of themselves in the first half
06:31and created chances, a lot more chances than we would have thought.
06:34They were brilliant in the second half,
06:35and that will give teams a quote-unquote blueprint for the second half performance
06:39that we can apply that to our game and potentially causing problems.
06:42On balance, if you're looking back at this match with a few hours or a few days,
06:47is it the first half and conceding the two goals that they did
06:50that will be the thing that really grates and really kind of gets to you,
06:54or will it be missing those chances in the second half?
06:57I think it's going to be the first half, especially.
07:00If you're a homie, you've scored three goals, you...
07:03Should be enough.
07:04Yeah, it should be enough.
07:05So I think to give yourself a chance against the top teams,
07:09you have to focus, even though they're chasing the game before the game kicks off,
07:14your focus has to be, let's do everything we can to get a clean sheet,
07:17and then the last 15, 20 minutes we can push if we need to,
07:21if we need one goal or two goals.
07:22I think Villa, in terms of conceding the two goals,
07:25and especially the way they conceded it, it deflated everyone a little bit,
07:28and the goal before half-time lifts them, gives them a little bit to play for,
07:32but for me, I'd be in there, as a forward player,
07:36I'd be going in, saying to the defenders, what is going on?
07:39You don't give us the time to score goals.
07:44Now we need four goals instead of two,
07:47so I would have looked to do the way,
07:49but I think ultimately the right team went through over the two legs.
07:53I think PSG were the better team over the two legs.
07:55OK, let's get some reactions, shall we, from PSG.
07:58Marquinhos is here with Alex Alge.
08:00Marquinhos, congratulations to the semi-finals against Arsenal or Real Madrid.
08:06How do you feel?
08:07Congratulations through to the semi-finals.
08:10How are you feeling?
08:12We're very happy.
08:12We knew we would have a very courageous team here.
08:17We knew about their power.
08:18This is the Champions League.
08:19The Champions League has never been decided in the first game.
08:22We got this classification, which was very difficult.
08:25We started with a good result,
08:27but then I think we dropped a lot in performance,
08:30in dynamic and intensity,
08:32and they were able to make the best goals.
08:34But that's how it is for the Champions League.
08:36We have to know how to suffer,
08:38how to play with a difficult result in the field of the adversaries,
08:41so that we can get to the next phase.
08:43Well, we knew it was going to be a difficult game.
08:46These Champions League ties are never won in the first leg,
08:49but we have belief.
08:50We came out strong,
08:51then they scored those goals in the second half.
08:53We kept up our intensity,
08:54and we believed until the end that we're going to go through,
08:57and we're so happy.
08:58But this is the Champions League.
08:59The games are always going to be difficult.
09:00Well, as you just said, it was a difficult game.
09:13But how would you sum up Paris Saint-Germain's performance?
09:15Because this is such a brilliant team, isn't it?
09:18Yes, Paris Saint-Germain has a philosophy of independent
09:21in our field or outside of the house.
09:24We have our intensity of the game,
09:26we have our philosophy of never to get to the end,
09:28always to look for the result,
09:29always to look for the pressure,
09:30to attack, to have control of the game.
09:33And it's what we do.
09:33Sometimes we do it a little bit better,
09:36sometimes with difficulties as it was today.
09:38But in all aspects of the game,
09:40we are well prepared by our coach,
09:42very well trained,
09:43we know how to defend,
09:44we know how to attack,
09:45we know what we have to do when the game is difficult.
09:47And today, thanks to God,
09:48the result was our goal.
09:50We came into this game knowing that we had to play our game.
09:53Our manager tells us exactly what we want to do.
09:55We pressure, we play with a lot of intensity.
09:58We did that game,
09:59yet it wasn't easy at times,
10:00and Assa Villa made it difficult for us.
10:02But we did what we needed to do
10:03and we've gone through to the next round.
10:06Paris Saint-Germain can win Champions this year,
10:09in your opinion.
10:10Do you believe that Paris Saint-Germain
10:11can win the Champions League this year?
10:13We know that the path is long.
10:15We see that the games are very difficult.
10:17The next match, depending on who are Arsenal or Real Madrid,
10:21will be a very difficult game and intense,
10:24decided on the details.
10:25So we have to go step by step.
10:26This is our goal, this is our goal.
10:28Of course, with the Paris Saint-Germain,
10:31with this young team that we have,
10:33but we are capable,
10:34we are showing each game,
10:35but we know that the title is still a little long.
10:38We have to first focus on this semi-final,
10:40and do the work that we have to do,
10:43growing up as a team,
10:44growing up as a group,
10:45and growing up as a team,
10:46to get ready for a possible duel in a final.
10:50So, from the step by step,
10:51I believe that we are in a very good process,
10:54showing our power, our value,
10:56and it will be decided in detail, as it was today.
11:00It's such a difficult competition,
11:01but we're getting better and better,
11:03and we're proving that we're such a good team.
11:05I think we've improved throughout the course of the season,
11:07but it's going to be such a difficult semi-final,
11:09which is our focus to begin with,
11:11whether it's Arsenal or Real Madrid.
11:12But, of course, there is belief that this team,
11:15this Paris Saint-Germain team,
11:16can go all the way and win it this year.
11:19Obrigado por hablar conmigo,
11:21y parabéns de nuevo.
11:23Thank you for speaking to me,
11:24and congratulations again, Marquinhos.
11:25Thank you very much.
11:27You can speak English.
11:30Alex Aljo with her third language of the evening there.
11:34Right, Aston Villa's loyal die-hard fans
11:38have been here and made some noise tonight,
11:40and they've seen their team give it all in the second half,
11:43but it just wasn't quite enough,
11:45and they go out of this Champions League campaign,
11:48having not been beaten at home in the Champions League.
11:52In fact, they haven't been on a run like this,
11:5418 matches unbeaten at Villa Park, since 1991,
11:58and that kind of gives you a good impression
12:01of where things are going with Unai Emery
12:03and how he's changed the mentality around here,
12:05building this place into something of a fortress, Ashley.
12:09I think that's exactly what it is.
12:10It's the mentality that Unai Emery's brought into the club.
12:13All the players are brought into it.
12:15The fans brought into it after a little early start,
12:20and they respect him.
12:21The players respect him.
12:23The board respect him.
12:23The owners, everybody respects him,
12:25and they can see the vision that he wants for the club.
12:27The club has jumped so far from when he first came in to now.
12:32And like I say, you've got to take these experiences
12:34as much as you want and look to move forward,
12:37look to move forward from them in a positive way.
12:40Like we said, tonight is obviously disappointing for them,
12:42but you've got to take the positives out of it.
12:45And like I say, the way you bounce back from it will show that.
12:48And does it appear to you from the outside, Daniel,
12:51the players really buy into his dream,
12:54what he sees this team doing, his vision for this team?
12:57Yes, and you have to.
12:58You have to because, you know, managers of his quality
13:02expect a certain level from you every single day
13:05on the training pitch, on the field.
13:07He wants you to understand his tactics.
13:08Of course, the best managers around the world want you to do that.
13:11Also, he has fantastic people behind the scenes as well.
13:14Manchi is someone who everyone talks about
13:16from the recruitment perspective.
13:18So they identify players who they believe
13:20can bring the club forward,
13:21which they've done with the likes of Rashford, Asensio
13:23and the rest, Marlon as well, who joined the club.
13:26So they've done an incredible job
13:28in such a short space of time.
13:29And I can't wait to see where it goes from here
13:32because they've done so much as a football club.
13:35You know, it's an exciting time for the fan base
13:37and for the ownership and the players and the staff.
13:39From what you've seen, Clarence, this season,
13:41does it feel to you like this is the start
13:42of a really good long run in Europe for Aston Villa?
13:46In terms of, you know, season after season,
13:49coming back and going again.
13:51England is very competitive.
13:52So you might not play Champions League every year,
13:57which is really not a crazy thing to think about.
14:02But I would like to really show respect for the ownership
14:06because I think, you know, it starts by coming back
14:08into the Premier League.
14:10So there's a whole lot of years of work
14:14behind where they are now.
14:16And of course, Emery and all the other people
14:18who came in are adding the value now
14:20to make the step forward.
14:21But you shouldn't forget that the division
14:23definitely exists already way before
14:25all of these people came in.
14:27And the buy-in comes with the results.
14:29And I think what Emery brought
14:31is that actually we can win matches,
14:33actually we can be competitive.
14:34So he was just that probably element
14:38that was missing to fine-tune
14:41what effort this club has been building over the years.
14:44And we saw, didn't we, with Newcastle United,
14:46when you have a long period of time without a trophy
14:48and what it can do to a club
14:50who is going in the right direction.
14:52For Villa to be in the semi-final of the FA Cup
14:54and still have that, you know,
14:56tantalisingly there for them this season,
14:58how important that would be for Unai Emery to win that.
15:01That's of massive importance for the club, for Unai.
15:04The players, like you say, the owners as well.
15:07You know, they're brought into his vision.
15:08His vision is he wants to win a trophy here,
15:10whether that be domestically
15:12or whether that be in Europe.
15:14He wants to be playing Champions League every season
15:17and taking a team as far as they can go.
15:20Like we said, everybody would have said
15:21that when Aston Villa got into Champions League,
15:24would they have come this far this season?
15:26You probably would have said no.
15:28But they have done.
15:28So they've got that experience.
15:30And like you say, Unai Emery sees that the club
15:33can win a competition.
15:34And like you say, they're in the semi-final of the FA Cup.
15:37So why can't they go and win that?
15:38Well, if you were just kind of being dispassionate,
15:40looking at them tonight and through this season,
15:42what is it that they're just missing at the moment,
15:44do you think, to take them that step further?
15:46Maybe just that know-how towards the end of the season
15:49when you're coming into quarter-finals,
15:51semi-finals of competitions,
15:54you need that know-how and that experience.
15:56And that takes, obviously, time.
15:58It takes, you know, sometimes failing,
16:00sometimes losing in them games
16:02to be able to understand
16:04how to get through their moments.
16:06But they're definitely on the right step,
16:07I think, over the last few years.
16:09You've seen a really good progression
16:11with the football club.
16:12And players talk as well throughout, you know, Europe.
16:17Players talk, and I'm sure them PSG players
16:19will be going away from here saying,
16:22you know, what a great atmosphere it was,
16:23what a great occasion it was to play such a difficult game.
16:27And that, you know, that gives players a feeling,
16:30oh, you know what, I'd like to go and play there.
16:33So I think tonight is not a good moment
16:38because they've gone out of the competition,
16:39but I think it's a big moment for them
16:40for the next few years.
16:41And we know Wayne wants Marcus Rashford
16:44back to Manchester United.
16:46Daniel, from what you've seen
16:47about how his performance tonight
16:49and across this season,
16:50I think he's got more assists
16:51than any other Villa player since he arrived.
16:54He's been galvanised, clearly.
16:56Do you think he would want to stay here
16:57and continue his journey with this team?
16:59I don't know what he plans to do.
17:01I think every player wants to be on the football pitch
17:03and they want their manager to have total belief
17:05in them as a football player.
17:07You know, he's been in these moments
17:09previously at Manchester United.
17:11Where he's playing week in, week out
17:12and feels full of life.
17:13And I think since he's joined Aston Villa,
17:15we're seeing that version of him again.
17:17This season in the earlier parts,
17:19he wasn't himself.
17:20But I think now we're truly seeing him,
17:22you know, come back to himself again,
17:24playing with confidence,
17:25enjoying himself, which is important.
17:26So whatever he chooses to do next season is up to him
17:29and Manchester United too.
17:31The manager obviously likes him.
17:31He's starting him over Watkins again tonight.
17:34Yeah.
17:34I mean, the future's in Manchester United's hands
17:37at the end of the day because he's their player.
17:39He's here on loan,
17:40but he's going to have options, of course,
17:42if Manchester United don't want him.
17:44But if I'm Manchester United,
17:46I'm looking at him and how he's performed here,
17:48you've got to say,
17:49we've got to figure out how we can make this work.
17:51Let's also say I don't think anybody needed
17:53to see him now how he plays.
17:55I mean, Rashford is a great talent
17:57and probably it's more the club
17:58that needs to pull themselves together
18:00to understand how to, you know, value these plays.
18:04I've been criticising from far.
18:06I mean, if you have somebody like him on the team,
18:09how can you not make him feel important enough
18:11to make the difference for you?
18:12You said it right.
18:15Here he's getting that love,
18:16so if Manu wants to bring him back,
18:18they will definitely need to make sure
18:19that he will feel important.
18:21But this is what I was saying before
18:22when I was saying that Aston Villa
18:23need to attract,
18:25to keep continuing at the top level,
18:27they need to be able to attract top players.
18:30And Marcus Rashford has clearly felt
18:31that he's got a better chance of winning trophies
18:34and perform better at Aston Villa
18:36than he has at Manchester United,
18:37which is a worry for Manchester United,
18:38but from Aston Villa's point of view,
18:40I think that's a positive sign.
18:42From Marcus's point of view,
18:43as I said before,
18:45you know, I really would want to see him
18:47like he was tonight, running around,
18:48you know, terrorising defenders,
18:51getting shots off,
18:52being a nuisance,
18:53showed all his qualities tonight,
18:55especially in the second half.
18:56I think the narrative before he came here was,
19:03he's not the same player though.
19:05That was the narrative.
19:06He's proven everyone wrong.
19:08We have to give him credit.
19:09There was a big narrative out there
19:11that Marcus Rashford is not the same player
19:13and Ruben Amarim is correct
19:15about everything about the player.
19:17But Marcus Rashford has come here
19:19and he's shown everybody once again,
19:21this is who I am.
19:22This is how I play.
19:23This is what I can bring to the table.
19:25And I think as a football player
19:26who sometimes when managers don't fancy her,
19:28it's down to you to show the manager,
19:30look, I'm good enough.
19:31This is what I can do.
19:32You've got to understand
19:33from the player's perspective,
19:34obviously we've all played the game,
19:36but sometimes as a player,
19:37you're not going to get the love from the manager
19:39and other times you say,
19:41okay, I'm either going to go on loan
19:42or I'm going to fight to get my spot
19:45and do what the manager wants me to do.
19:46And he's chose to come here
19:47and it's worked out for him.
19:49Sometimes you can make these decisions
19:50and it goes the other way
19:51and it doesn't work out for you.
19:53And then people question you even more.
19:55Manchester United don't want you.
19:56And then things go really bad.
19:57But I'm really proud of him
19:58that he's come here
19:59and he's shown everybody once again
20:01what he's all about
20:03and he's done that.
20:03I'm proud of him.
20:04Actually, you've spoken to him
20:05in those moments
20:06when he was making the decision
20:07about where he would go
20:08and I know that you really are thrilled
20:11that he's managed to turn it around here.
20:13Do you see him going back to United?
20:16It's like what Daniel said.
20:17He's only on loan here.
20:19Man United could get him back,
20:21could let him go again.
20:22It's down to, obviously,
20:23the manager and the owners there.
20:25I think in Marcus's head,
20:26he just wants to play football.
20:28When you've come on loan,
20:29you've done so well
20:31and you've been given love by a manager.
20:33You've tasted Champions League football.
20:35You're in a semi-final of FA Cup.
20:37You're trying to get the club
20:39up back into the Champions League
20:40place in the league.
20:42Your confidence starts
20:43to get to a club like Aston Villa.
20:45Seeing where Unai Emery's vision is,
20:47seeing the owners' vision,
20:49to try and say to Man United,
20:51let me go,
20:51let me go and play,
20:52let me restart,
20:53let me have a reboot,
20:54which is what I think
20:55that he needed
20:56while he came here on loan
20:57to then go again.
20:59It will be down to,
21:00obviously,
21:01Man United,
21:01whether they make that decision
21:02to let him go or not.
21:04But, like you say,
21:04as a player,
21:05maybe he might be looking
21:06to come here.
21:07Yeah, I don't know
21:07how much is up to Man United,
21:09honestly speaking,
21:10because if a player
21:10doesn't want to come back,
21:11why would you bring him back?
21:13So, I think that
21:14Man United took a big risk
21:15to let him go
21:16in the first hand.
21:17I don't think they believed
21:18he would come back
21:19at this level.
21:21So, I have a hard,
21:22I have a feeling
21:23he will stay.
21:23But Marcus Rashford
21:24wants to play
21:25for Manchester United.
21:27He's a Manchester
21:29fan,
21:30and I think
21:31just over the last
21:33couple of years
21:33or 18 months or so
21:34it's been difficult moments.
21:35So, does he want to play
21:36for Ruben Amorin?
21:37No, I'm not saying
21:38he needed to play
21:41and it was clear
21:42that he weren't going
21:43to play the rest of the season.
21:44I think we could all see that.
21:46What's going to change
21:47next year?
21:48That's the question.
21:48Yeah, but he's clearly shown
21:50sometimes you have to
21:52you have to keep banging
21:53on that manager's door.
21:54You have to keep knocking
21:55the door and saying,
21:55listen, and put the manager
21:56in a position where
21:57he cannot leave you out.
21:58Marcus Rashford,
21:59in the ideal world,
22:00would want to play
22:00and leave a legacy
22:01at Manchester United.
22:02Whether that's possible,
22:03I don't know,
22:04but that's what I'd love
22:05to see as well.
22:06OK, well, we're obviously
22:07waiting for reaction
22:08from the Aston Villa
22:10manager, Unai Emery.
22:12It has been a frustrating
22:13night for him.
22:16His team came so close
22:17in that second half
22:18so many times
22:19to getting that
22:19all-important fourth goal
22:21on the night,
22:21which could have taken
22:22it through to extra time.
22:24And for a manager
22:24who's navigated
22:25so many successful seasons
22:27in Europe,
22:29that frustration
22:29was writ large,
22:30wasn't it?
22:31Gabriel Clark
22:31is with him now.
22:33Unai, commiserations.
22:34There's a lot of emotions
22:35I know.
22:36Is the overriding emotion
22:37pride?
22:38Is it regret?
22:41Good evening.
22:42I mean, I am very proud
22:42of everything we did
22:44this year in Champions League.
22:48And to get this level
22:51is the next step forward.
22:54I want to try to build
22:56with Aston Villa.
22:59Today, of course,
23:00we played two legs.
23:02The first leg,
23:02we competed well,
23:04but it was not enough.
23:04And today we compete
23:07better even.
23:09And we were close
23:10to combat the result.
23:12But the last step forward,
23:14the last step forward,
23:15still,
23:16and this is my
23:17my only
23:18circumstance.
23:23I want to try to
23:24work hardly
23:26for our next process
23:28here in Aston Villa.
23:29But today,
23:31fantastic
23:31how we
23:33were feeling here
23:35with our supporters
23:36here.
23:37The environment,
23:38really,
23:39the crowd was fantastic.
23:41They enjoyed
23:41the tasmitas,
23:42the energy.
23:44As well,
23:44we played more or less
23:45even if we were 2-0.
23:46We were keeping
23:47the same idea
23:49on the field
23:49and we were coming
23:50by the result.
23:51And the last
23:5225 minutes
23:54we were the port
23:54to draw
23:55the round,
23:57this round.
23:58But
23:58still a little bit
24:00more to do better
24:01to try to get it.
24:03But is the difference
24:04in the end
24:04Gianluigi Donnarumma?
24:07Yes,
24:07he's safe,
24:08very good balls.
24:09Of course,
24:09in this level,
24:10every player,
24:11goalkeepers,
24:12players,
24:12they have
24:13a really huge,
24:14huge
24:15level
24:18to play
24:19and to try
24:20to be
24:20protagonist.
24:21But as well,
24:22we were on the field
24:23and we were
24:24protagonists as well,
24:25playing individually
24:26with our skills.
24:27At 3-2,
24:28with half an hour
24:29to go,
24:29did you think
24:30we will win?
24:30I was focused
24:33to play,
24:34focused to play,
24:35focused to play.
24:35When we were
24:36lost in Chenille,
24:37when we were
24:383-2 winning,
24:39I was focused,
24:40focused,
24:41our game plan
24:42with the players
24:43to try to get it.
24:44But I was not thinking
24:45we were winning
24:47or not.
24:47I was thinking
24:48only to play
24:49our game plan
24:50and keep
24:51being consistent
24:51in it.
24:52Is the one regret
24:53the nature of the goals
24:55conceded
24:56in the first half?
24:58No.
24:59Because we were
24:59attacking
25:00and they could
25:02take
25:02those transitions
25:04like they did.
25:06And they were
25:07clinical
25:07because they have
25:08very good players
25:08and very good
25:09faster players
25:10in the transition.
25:11But we knew it.
25:14And when we played
25:15there,
25:15we did different
25:16match game plan
25:17because we were
25:18avoiding,
25:19trying to avoid
25:20the transition
25:21and trying to
25:22defend more
25:23lower than today.
25:24But today,
25:24we take the
25:25new game plan
25:27and we were
25:28pushing more.
25:29We were taking
25:30as well a lot
25:30of duels,
25:32individual duels
25:33pressing them
25:34and we knew
25:35the possibility
25:35as well
25:36to conceder
25:37some transition.
25:38But even like that,
25:39at the end,
25:40we got them
25:42suffering like we did.
25:44It is the key
25:45now then,
25:46through all this
25:47regret,
25:47but what has been
25:48achieved this season,
25:49it is essential
25:50your team get back
25:52into the Champions League
25:53in the course
25:54of the next six weeks
25:55or so.
25:55Of course.
25:56it is now the most
25:57important is to
25:57get Europe again.
25:59Of course,
26:00to get Europe
26:00is our objective
26:01because through
26:02Premier League
26:03is very difficult.
26:04But the most
26:06important competition
26:07is the Champions League
26:07and it is the more
26:08demanding
26:09objective we can have
26:12and it is to get
26:13again the Champions League
26:14but we have another
26:15very important opponent
26:17in Premier League
26:18to fight against them.
26:19But the challenge
26:20we have now
26:20is for the last six
26:22matches we are going
26:23to play,
26:23try to get Europe
26:24and try to get
26:25Champions League
26:26and in case not
26:26Europe League
26:27or conference.
26:28Marcus Rashford
26:29looked a player
26:29revitalised
26:30and has done here.
26:32Would you be confident
26:33Marcus would come
26:34to Aston Villa
26:35next season?
26:36It is difficult
26:37to plan it now.
26:41Of course,
26:43probably he is
26:43feeling comfortable,
26:44probably he is
26:45feeling better
26:46and today he played
26:48a fantastic match
26:48and we are very happy
26:50and of course
26:50the most important
26:51is if he is happy
26:52or we are happy.
26:54If we are happy
26:54with him
26:55and he is happy
26:56with us
26:56it is important
26:57in the process
26:58we have.
26:58And then of course
26:59it depends
27:01the circumstances
27:03from now
27:07how it is coming
27:09the next weeks
27:10and the next year
27:12as well.
27:12It has been an amazing
27:13Champions League season.
27:15Congratulations on that
27:16and good luck
27:17for the rest of the season.
27:18Thank you so much.
27:20Well, the one thing
27:21you take from that
27:22I think is that
27:23he is absolutely
27:24adamant and resolute
27:25that his strategy,
27:26his tactics,
27:27his game plan tonight
27:28was exactly
27:29executing the way
27:30he wanted it.
27:31He had no regrets.
27:32Yeah, I don't think
27:33he can have regrets
27:33but I think just
27:34where he said there
27:35we knew the
27:36PSG were very dangerous
27:38on transition.
27:41So that is where
27:42I just think
27:43first half
27:43although what he is saying
27:44I think when he
27:45sits them players down
27:46he goes through
27:47in the team meeting
27:48and reflects on the game
27:50I am sure he will
27:51point out the two goals
27:52because the defender
27:53was nowhere near good enough
27:54and that is what cost him
27:55ultimately.
27:55But he can be
27:58extremely proud of the team
27:59of the fight back
28:00which they nearly made
28:02and the campaign
28:04they have had
28:04in the Champions League.
28:05Yeah, and he is also
28:07absolutely
28:08categorically staking
28:10that Champions League
28:10football is a must
28:12for this club.
28:12Yeah, exactly that.
28:15That is what he said.
28:16He has got the vision
28:17of making sure
28:18the club is in
28:18the Champions League
28:19next season
28:20and seasons after
28:21however long
28:22he is going to be here.
28:24Like Wayne said there
28:25that of course
28:27he is going to be
28:27unbelievably proud
28:28of what the team
28:29have achieved
28:29and they nearly
28:31come back
28:31but like you say
28:33I said it before
28:34that the two goals
28:35has cost them the tie.
28:37Well, talk about
28:37knocking on the door
28:38PSG have been doing that
28:39haven't they
28:39for quite a few seasons now.
28:41Is this a team?
28:42Is this a performance
28:42tonight perhaps
28:43that can give us
28:44an indication
28:44they might be going
28:45all the way?
28:46Let's hear from their
28:46manager Luis Enrique
28:47is with Gabriel.
28:50Luis, well done.
28:51A defeat tonight
28:52but over the two games
28:53did the best team win?
28:55I think so.
28:57Simple as that?
28:58Simple as that.
28:58You ask simple
28:59I answer simple.
29:01But based on
29:02your performances
29:02what pleased you most?
29:04I think if we forget
29:07we cannot forget
29:08because this is
29:08Champions League
29:09and you have to
29:09accept that
29:10the opposite team
29:11has a lot of quality
29:12Aston Villa
29:13was playing
29:15with a lot of
29:16intensity
29:17in the second half
29:18and they scored
29:20two or three minutes
29:21in that moment
29:21the match was
29:23almost dead
29:24but I have to say
29:25we started the game
29:27in a great way
29:28scoring two goals
29:29amazing two goals
29:30trying to take
29:31advantage of the
29:32spaces
29:32and I think
29:34in the whole
29:35two matches
29:37we deserve to win
29:39and we'll be happy
29:40because it's the second
29:42year in a row
29:43in the semi-finals
29:44and we want to
29:46go through the next phase
29:48Do you have in
29:49Gianluigi Donnarumma
29:51the best goalkeeper
29:52in the world?
29:54I think I have the best
29:56squad in the world
29:56not only the goalkeeper
29:58Gillo
29:59when you have that
30:00kind of
30:01you are in a club
30:03like PSG
30:05you have a lot of
30:06quality players
30:07Gillo is one of the best
30:08goalkeepers in the world
30:08and I have to say
30:10that that match
30:11for us
30:12it's something
30:13that allows us
30:15to grow up
30:15and try to
30:17compete even better
30:18yes because PSG
30:19obviously
30:20sometimes when being
30:21favourites
30:22have found it
30:23difficult
30:23and at 3-2
30:24are you thinking
30:25we might lose
30:26again?
30:28that's true
30:29and that
30:30that competition
30:31at that point
30:32they
30:32they didn't
30:33anything to lose
30:34because they were
30:35losing the
30:38first match
30:38and also losing
30:39in the
30:40in the half time
30:41the second
30:42leg
30:42and
30:43okay
30:43it's always
30:44difficult to play
30:45that kind of matches
30:46the atmosphere
30:49in the stadium
30:49was great
30:50very nice
30:51and I am very happy
30:52because we can
30:53offer our supporters
30:55another qualification
30:57for the
30:57for the semifinals
30:58and now
30:59we will see if it's Arsenal
31:00thank you very much
31:01he thinks he's got
31:03the best squad
31:04in the world
31:04is
31:05is he right?
31:07well I hope that
31:08every coach thinks
31:09that about the team
31:10so

31:21and with a good mix
31:22actually
31:22there are a few
31:23experienced players

31:27I think
31:27I think much
31:28has to do with
31:29Luis Enrique
31:30his hand on this team
31:31the way they play
31:32the confidence
31:33they have
31:33and the discipline

31:40coverage of the
31:41top Champions League
31:42I like it
31:43because I think
31:43I like it
31:44because I need
31:45to think

31:46it's not
31:46the way it looks
31:47like it
31:48but it's not

31:49the way it's
31:49happening
