00:00Hello, everyone.
00:01My name is Diana.
00:02Before we get into my story, please like and subscribe.
00:05I was born in a tiny town in America, in an old house where my mom had grown up.
00:10Our cleaning lady once told me that mom used to be the most beautiful woman around.
00:15And when she walked by, everyone stopped to look at her.
00:18She'd left for Hollywood, but she returned when she was pregnant with me.
00:22But the version of mom I knew was not very glamorous.
00:26She hardly left the house and spent all day watching soap operas.
00:30She was obsessed and was always trying to copy the actress.
00:34This woman is the worst actress ever.
00:37I can do better.
00:38Yeah, that role would have been mine if I didn't give up my career.
00:42Mom didn't say it exactly, but I always felt like I had gotten in the way of her acting
00:47dreams and a different life.
00:50Sometimes I kind of felt bad for her, and I tried not to bother her so much.
00:56She came in wearing jewelry and some flowy silk gown that was too tight.
01:01Did she think she was at the Oscars?
01:03She catwalked down the hallway and flirted with all my male teachers.
01:07It was so embarrassing.
01:09Why did you have to act that way, mom?
01:11Couldn't you just be normal?
01:13What?
01:14I'm just being myself.
01:16I'm an actress.
01:17Looking and being a certain way is all part of it.
01:20Mom, I'm just a kid.
01:22I don't care about your acting and all that.
01:23I just want you to be a normal mom.
01:26Over time, mom and I grew more distant, and by the time I was 12, we were living like housemates
01:32that barely spoke to each other.
01:34One time in eighth grade, I'd asked to borrow some of her clothes for a talent show, but
01:38I didn't bother inviting her.
01:40To my surprise though, mom walked in halfway into the show, and she looked totally normal,
01:46just like all the other parents.
01:48But soon after, a girl was performing a one-man show, and suddenly, I saw mom running up to
01:53the stage and grabbing the mic from her.
01:55Honey, that was so embarrassing.
01:57I just couldn't watch anymore.
01:59You have to play each character as if you are the character.
02:04Look deep into your soul.
02:06Come on now, try it again.
02:07And oh, maybe you can do one character with a British accent.
02:11She started speaking in a terrible British accent.
02:14The girl looked as confused as the audience, and I was BEYOND embarrassed.
02:19Hey, isn't that Diana's wacky mom?
02:23I ran away to hide in the bathroom.
02:25I couldn't even do my F anymore.
02:27Once the show was over and everyone left, I came out to the parking lot to find mom there.
02:32Hey, I was waiting for you.
02:34Why did you come here?
02:36Was it to humiliate me?
02:37What?
02:38No, I came to support you.
02:40Then why couldn't you just sit quietly instead of jumping onto the stage and snatching
02:44the mic from a kid?
02:46I was doing her a favor, and she'll remember me forever for those tips.
02:51Come on, let's go home.
02:52I'm gonna walk home.
02:53In fact, I'm gonna walk all the way to China if that's what it takes to get away from you.
02:57Diana, watch out!
02:58I suddenly felt something hit me with force and I went flying.
03:02I saw a blinding white light, and then I passed out.
03:05I woke up to mom's worried face and realized I was in the hospital.
03:09Mom told me that I'd been hit by a car.
03:12I'd broken my leg and I had to use a cane now.
03:14For how long?
03:15A few months, at least.
03:17We can't be sure when it'll be fully healed, and you might end up with a small limb.
03:23I'm so sorry, baby.
03:25This is all my fault.
03:27That day, I cried so much I thought my eyes were gonna fall out.
03:31I tried to stay mad at mom, but I couldn't.
03:34She wasn't great, but I knew she didn't wish for this.
03:37When we got home, mom tried so hard to be the perfect caregiver, but I knew she was struggling.
03:43It just didn't come naturally to her, but she never stopped apologizing.
03:47Baby, this is all my fault.
03:49In times like this, I wish I was more like Carol.
03:52Carol was my mother's sister who lived in New York.
03:55When I was younger, I always wished she was my mom.
03:59She had two kids, Theo and Becky, and the holidays I spent with my cousins were my favorite memories.
04:04Auntie Carol is quite amazing, and it would be nice to see Theo and Becky.
04:09Do you think spending some time with them would make you feel better?
04:12Yes, yes, yes!
04:14If that's what you want, love.
04:16And soon enough, I was heading for New York.
04:18But my first disappointment came at the airport when I saw Aunt Carol wasn't even there to pick
04:23me up.
04:24When she didn't show up after a while, I called her.
04:27It turned out she'd forgotten.
04:29I am so sorry, honey.
04:31There was a little situation at the kids' school.
04:33She still looked like the amazing aunt I remembered, but something about her also felt different.
04:39And when we got to her house, it was really quiet.
04:42As Aunt took my luggage to my room, I wandered into the kitchen to find Theo making a sandwich.
04:47Hey, Theo!
04:48It's so good to see you!
04:50Theo just looked at me blankly, then walked off without a word.
04:53What the heck?
04:54Didn't he remember me?
04:56Just then, someone almost knocked me out with a bear hug.
04:58Oh my gosh, you're finally here!
05:00I've been waiting all day!
05:02Gosh, I missed you!
05:03How are you?
05:04Well, I know you're a little sad, but I got you now.
05:07Thank God Becky was the same chatterbox I knew.
05:10We talked and laughed for hours.
05:13Hey, is Theo okay?
05:15He was so weird to me earlier.
05:17Becky's face instantly fell, and she looked like she was gonna cry.
05:21Yeah, that's him these days.
05:23Mom thinks it's just a puberty phase, but it's more than that.
05:27He's changed so much, I hardly know him anymore.
05:30But at least I have you now.
05:32In the coming days, I got to see the new Theo myself.
05:35He never spoke to anyone and spent all his time in his room playing video games.
05:40One day, Aunt had to go in to make him clean his room, but Theo started yelling like a crazy
05:45person.
05:46In my room, right now!
05:47Get out!
05:48One day, Aunt was having a garage sale, and Becky and I were helping her out, when suddenly,
05:53a police car pulled up, with Theo in it.
05:55Is this your son?
05:57He was caught stealing cigarettes and magazines at the mall.
06:00All our neighbors were staring at the spectacle, and Aunt's face was red with embarrassment.
06:06The policeman let Theo go because he was a first-time offender, but that day, Aunt snapped.
06:11Why have you decided to humiliate me?
06:14I work my butt off for you to have everything, and you go around stealing?
06:19And what, you're smoking now?
06:20That's none of your business.
06:22And if my allowance was enough, I wouldn't have to go around stealing, would I?
06:26So maybe you're not working hard enough.
06:28Hey!
06:29Stop that!
06:30You're being rude!
06:31You know your mom works so hard!
06:33Who asked you?
06:34This is a family matter, and just cause your mom dumped you here, doesn't mean you get
06:38to butt into everything.
06:39I was so sick of his stupid attitude.
06:42I hit him with my cane, and we got into a fight, and Aunt had to separate us.
06:46That's enough!
06:47Theo, apologize right now!
06:49From that day, Theo and I were dead to each other.
06:52I didn't care anyway, as long as I had Becky with me.
06:55Aunt Carol registered me at my cousin's school soon, which Theo looked very unhappy about
07:01since we were in the same grade.
07:02On our first day, Theo cornered me right after Aunt dropped us off.
07:06Listen, just stay away from me.
07:08Mind your own business, and as far as anyone knows, we are not related.
07:12Understood?
07:13It was my first time in school since the accident, and I was nervous.
07:16But the students here were really nice.
07:18They helped me up the stairs and even helped me find my class.
07:22I had a feeling I was gonna love it here.
07:24But when the bell rang for recess, I noticed the strangest thing ever.
07:28A group of boys ordered Theo to pick up their books and put them in their lockers.
07:33And he did!
07:34Without a word!
07:35Like he was their servant!
07:36During lunch, I noticed him with the same boys again.
07:40This time, they made him fetch their lunch, and while he was balancing all the trays,
07:44someone bumped into him and he fell down.
07:46And those jerks all laughed at him.
07:48Hey, what's the deal with that boy?
07:50Oh, that poor boy is Theo.
07:52And that blonde guy in their group is Billy, and the rest are his minions.
07:56They've been hurting Theo forever.
07:58One time, Theo reported Billy and got him into detention.
08:01And since then, it's gotten so much worse.
08:04Like they're really trying to punish him.
08:06Sometimes I feel bad about not helping him, but we're all scared of those jerks.
08:10My heart broke into a million pieces.
08:13Theo was being bullied by monsters.
08:16And why hadn't Becky said anything?
08:18You must know what Theo was going through.
08:20Why haven't you told Aunt all this time?
08:22Diana, Mom works for the company Billy's dad owns.
08:26And you don't know how far Billy can go to make someone miserable.
08:29He's a spoiled brat, and if he asks his dad, Mom would lose her job in a second.
08:34Theo has forced me to stay quiet and says he can put up with it.
08:37He says things will be worse if he doesn't.
08:40I tried to understand her point of view, but I just couldn't.
08:43This had to stop.
08:45That night, I went to Theo's room.
08:47Listen, I'm really sorry for the way Billy is treating you, and he needs to be punished.
08:51Didn't I ask you to mind your own business?
08:54And it's not how it looks.
08:56I do stuff for those guys and get paid for it.
08:58You get paid to run around like their errand boy?
09:01That's humiliating.
09:02Let me help you.
09:03No, you'll make it worse.
09:05It's just for a few more months, and then we'll graduate.
09:08I'm handling it just fine.
09:10No, you're not.
09:11You are hurting, and everyone close to you is hurting too.
09:14Can't you see it?
09:15Leave me alone.
09:16But I just couldn't.
09:17So the next day, I made videos every time I saw Billy,
09:20Billy bully him, then sent them to the principal's email address.
09:24The next day, I felt a million butterflies when I found out that Billy had just been called
09:29in by the principal and suspended for two weeks.
09:32Not long enough, but a little justice.
09:35But when I got home, Theo was furious.
09:38I told you to leave it alone.
09:41He's gonna come back and have my head.
09:43No, he won't.
09:44The principal knows now.
09:46You are such a dumb, nosy idiot.
09:49You think the principal will actually take serious action against someone like Billy?
09:53Thanks for ruining my life.
09:55For the entire two weeks, he was so paranoid and looking over his shoulder.
09:59And the day Billy was supposed to be back, I noticed tears in Theo's eyes on our way to school.
10:04I silently prayed that he'd leave Theo alone and that I hadn't made things worse.
10:09But during lunch that day, I noticed a crowd gathered outside.
10:12I got closer and saw Theo surrounded by Billy and his boys.
10:16OMG, they were gonna hurt him.
10:18Hey, leave him alone.
10:20Stop it.
10:21But no one heard me.
10:22Then suddenly, I felt a huge force rush through my legs and I charged forward and hit Billy
10:28in the knees with my cane.
10:29He fell to the ground and stared at me furiously.
10:32Theo had grabbed Billy by the collar and punched him in the face.
10:36No one messes with my cousin.
10:38Luckily, someone had called the principal to the scene and everyone said that Billy tried
10:43to hurt me.
10:44The principal told him he was expelled.
10:47You can't do that.
10:49Do you know who my father is?
10:50Oh yes, I know, son.
10:52And I'm sure he wouldn't want word getting out that his son goes around beating kids with
10:57disabilities.
10:58That wouldn't be good for his reputation.
11:00You hurt a girl with a cane.
11:02I'll talk to your father right now.
11:04Billy was indeed expelled and his minions were suspended for the rest of the term.
11:09Billy's father also reached out to Aunt Carol to apologize and promised that his son would
11:14not be bothering her family again.
11:16After it was all over, Aunt Carol turned to Theo in tears.
11:20I should have known.
11:21I'm such a bad mom.
11:23No, you're not, mom.
11:25You're the best and I'm sorry for all the hurt I've caused you.
11:29And then he pulled me into their hug, too.
11:31Thank you for everything.
11:32I really owe you one.
11:34I'm just happy to have you back, cousin.
11:36From that day, things changed.
11:38Theo started to get better and becoming his old self.
11:41My leg had started recovering, too.
11:43I could now walk for short distances without my cane.
11:45And I didn't have a limp.
11:47One day, we were having dinner when someone knocked on the door.
11:50It was mom and she looked different.
11:52For the first time, she looked happy.
11:55She told us she'd gotten an opportunity to be in a big movie in L.A.
11:59But she turned it down to take me home.
12:01I'm so happy you're getting better.
12:03I want to be there for you during your recovery.
12:06I'm learning slowly, but I do want to be the best mom for you.
12:10Really.
12:11Mom, I really appreciate that.
12:13But you have to take that role.
12:15You'd be crazy to turn it down.
12:16What?
12:17It's your dream.
12:18And I'm happy here.
12:20Go to L.A.
12:21Become the biggest movie star.
12:23Then come back to me.
12:24I know you love me and I love you, too.
12:26But sometimes, the best way to show love to someone is by loving yourself.
