02:19Good evening, everyone.
02:20Thanks so much for joining us.
02:21I'm Lindsay Davis in for David.
02:23New details about the man mistakenly deported to El Salvador coming up in a moment.
02:28But we do begin tonight with new reporting on the deadly mass shooting at Florida State University.
02:32What we're now learning about the suspect accused of killing two people and wounding six others.
02:38The suspect is a 20-year-old FSU student and stepson of a sheriff's deputy.
02:42Police say he was armed with her former service weapon.
02:46The suspect was wounded by police and is said to be refusing to talk.
02:49His biological mother tells ABC News they initially thought he was one of the victims.
02:54Moments after those first shots were fired, some students ducking for cover under their desks.
02:59Many running for their lives, sprinting across the campus to get to safety.
03:03Tonight, a vigil for the victims.
03:06One of the survivors describes in chilling detail how she played dead after being shot,
03:11then heard the gunman reloading, and she feared she'd be shot again.
03:15ABC's Faith Abube leads us off from FSU.
03:19Tonight, authorities giving their account of the final moments before a shooter unleashed a deadly rampage
03:26through the Florida State University campus, killing two people, endangering six others.
03:32Among the dead, T. Ruchaba, a father of two, and Robert Morales, a former assistant football coach
03:39at nearby Leon High School.
03:41Authorities identifying Phoenix Eichner as the shooter, a stepson of a longtime local sheriff's deputy.
03:47Investigators say around 11 a.m. Thursday, Eichner drove into a campus parking garage
03:53and finally exited at 11.51 a.m.
03:56The first shot just moments later, between 11.56 and 11.57 a.m.
04:02By 12 noon, the shooter and law enforcement agents in a standoff.
04:07Investigators say officers shot him when he refused to drop his weapon.
04:11The suspect, seen here being shackled to a stretcher in an ambulance.
04:15Authorities say he has refused to answer any of their questions.
04:19Police say the gun he allegedly used was his stepmother's previous service weapon.
04:24The suspect's biological mother telling ABC News at first they thought he was one of the students injured
04:30before being told he was the shooter.
04:33We met one of the victims, Madison Askins, in her hospital bed.
04:37That's what my mom and dad always told me to do during an active shooter drill.
04:42Stay down, play dead.
04:43Madison telling us that in that moment, all she wanted to do was reach for her phone
04:48and say goodbye to her parents.
04:50I wanted to call my dad, tell him I loved him.
04:54So, that was rough.
04:58The suspect's stepmother, Leon County Sheriff's Deputy Jessica Eichner,
05:02was once Sheriff's Department Employee of the Month, now on a personal leave of absence.
05:07Her department reeling.
05:08How disappointing is it to have this connection to this agency in this way?
05:14Yeah, this is tough at any level.
05:18But to be personally impacted and to see how things unfolded on yesterday, obviously, is very disappointing.
05:26The university honoring the victims in a vigil.
05:29Madison tells us she's grateful to the officer who found her and stayed by her side.
05:34Somebody's going to show up.
05:36Somebody will be here soon.
05:38I just had to rely on another person.
05:41And the one who showed up, I'm glad she did.
05:44And Lindsay asked for that suspect.
05:45Authorities tell me that they are waiting for him to be officially discharged from the hospital before charging him.
05:51As you can imagine, Lindsay, he's facing various charges, including murder.
05:54Tonight, investigators still digging for a motive and trying to figure out how that suspect allegedly accessed his stepmother's weapon.
06:02Lindsay?
06:03Certainly important to understand both faith.
06:06We move on now to new development to the White House showdown over an undocumented immigrant mistakenly deported to a prison in El Salvador.
06:13Just a short time ago, Senator Chris Van Hollen returned to the U.S. after meeting face-to-face with Kilmar Abrego-Garcia.
06:20The senator says Abrego-Garcia was traumatized at the notorious prison there and has now been moved to a different facility.
06:27Today, President Trump lashing out at the senator for making the trip.
06:30ABC's Rachel Scott is at the White House.
06:33Tonight, Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen arriving back in the United States.
06:40Recounting his conversation with Kilmar Abrego-Garcia, the undocumented immigrant deported to that notorious prison in El Salvador because of an administrative error.
06:50In their meeting, Abrego-Garcia wearing a baseball cap, shorts and a button-down shirt.
06:55A far cry from this image.
06:58Heads shaved and prison whites hustled into the prison known as Cicot.
07:02He was placed in a cell with about 25 other prisoners at Cicot.
07:06He was traumatized by being at Cicot.
07:09And fearful of many of the prisoners in other cell blocks who called out to him and taunted him in various ways.
07:21Van Hollen says their conversation was Abrego-Garcia's first communication with anyone from the outside world since arriving in El Salvador on March 15th.
07:30Van Hollen tells me Salvadoran officials provided Abrego-Garcia with no information and that the senator spoke with the country's vice president himself.
07:38What did Abrego-Garcia say that the officials in El Salvador told him about why he was sent to that prison and how long he was there?
07:46They haven't told him anything about why he was sent.
07:49Or how long he would be there?
07:50They didn't tell him anything about that.
07:52In fact, I asked the vice president exactly that question.
07:55You know, why is he here?
07:57Is he violating any laws in El Salvador?
08:00Does he, do you have any proof that he's committed a crime?
08:04No.
08:04Why are you, why is he here?
08:06Because the Trump administration is paying us to keep him here.
08:10President Trump insists Abrego-Garcia is a violent gang member, though his family denies it and he has no criminal convictions.
08:17President Trump today blasting Van Hollen as a grandstander.
08:20Look, he's a fake.
08:22I know him.
08:22I know them all.
08:23They're all fake.
08:24And they have no interest in that prisoner.
08:27That prisoner's record is unbelievably bad.
08:30Van Hollen firing back that Trump and his ally El Salvador's president, Naive Bukele, are spreading lies.
08:37Accusing Bukele of staging this photo of the meeting last night.
08:40Two cocktail glasses conspicuously in the image Bukele posted on X, claiming the senator and Abrego-Garcia were, quote, sipping margaritas.
08:48When I first sat down with Kilmark, we just had glasses of water on the table.
08:54I think maybe some coffee.
08:55And as we were talking, one of the government people came over and deposited two other glasses on the table with ice and I don't know if it was salt or sugar around the top, but they look like margaritas.
09:14And let me just be very clear, neither of us touched the drinks that were in front of us.
09:21Nobody drank any margaritas or sugar water or whatever it is.
09:25But this is a lesson into the lengths that President Bukele will do to deceive people about what's going on.
09:34Senator Van Hollen says the bottom line is the administration is, quote, blatantly and flagrantly defying the Supreme Court,
09:40which has ordered them to facilitate Abrego-Garcia's return to the United States.
09:45This case is not just about one man.
09:48It's about protecting the constitutional rights of everybody who resides in the United States of America.
09:58If you deny the constitutional rights of one man, you threaten the constitutional rights and due process for everyone else in America.
10:08Lindsay, tonight, we've also learned that Abrego-Garcia was recently moved out of that notorious prison in El Salvador to a different detention center.
10:17Van Hollen says the conditions there are better, but still no sign that he'll be released.
10:21Lindsay.
10:22Rachel Scott from the White House. Thank you.
10:24Late today, ABC News obtained a disturbing 9-1-1 call about the arson attack targeting Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
10:31His home set on fire with his family inside.
10:34Authorities say the suspect called 9-1-1 himself to explain why he did it.
10:39Here's ABC's chief investigative correspondent, Aaron Katursky.
10:43Tonight, the chilling 9-1-1 call authorities say this man made moments after allegedly firebombing the home of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
10:519-1-1, what's the address of the emergency?
10:54I don't really have an emergency. I would like to apologize.
10:58In a level tone, police say accused arsonist Cody Balmer describes his motive for the attack on the first night of Passover.
11:05Governor Josh Shapiro needs to know that Cody Balmer will not take part in his plans for what he wants to do to the Palestinian people.
11:13All he has is a banquet hall to clean up.
11:15The caller branding Shapiro a monster, but then appearing to give himself up.
11:19You all know where to find me. I'm not hiding, and I will confess to everything that I have done.
11:24In an exclusive interview, ABC's George Stephanopoulos asked the governor whether this was a hate crime.
11:29I recognize when you're in these positions of power, there are people out there that want to do you harm.
11:36I try not to be captive to the fear, and I try not to worry or think about why people want to do that harm.
11:43Lindsey, that was the governor's first time back in that room.
11:46He told George how emotional he gets just thinking about it.
11:49The suspect's charged with terrorism, attempted murder. We'll see him back in court next week.
11:53Lindsey?
11:54Aaron Katursky for us. Thank you.
11:56Tonight, federal authorities have arrested a college student for allegedly firebombing a Tesla dealership while on spring break.
12:02The Justice Department has threatened to treat attacks on Elon Musk's company as domestic terrorism.
12:07Here's ABC's Trevor Ault.
12:10Tonight, this college student is under arrest, accused of firebombing two Tesla cyber trucks in Kansas City,
12:16part of a rash of violence and vandalism aimed at the company owned by Trump ally Elon Musk.
12:2219-year-old Owen McIntyre was on spring break last month when the FBI says he made a Molotov cocktail out of a vinegar bottle and a rag
12:30and threw it at a Tesla dealership.
12:33Investigators say these images show the suspect moments before that alleged arson.
12:37He's allegedly seen in this video running away seconds later.
12:41It's the second arrest this week for alleged crimes against Tesla, which became a target after Musk started leading the Trump administration's push to cut federal spending.
12:51McIntyre faces one count of unlawful possession of an unregistered destructive device and one count of malicious property damage by fire.
12:59Lindsey, Attorney General Pam Bondi says anyone who still wants to firebomb a Tesla property will spend decades behind bars.
13:07Lindsey, Trevor, thank you. Now to new developments in the Idaho college murders case.
13:12Four students stabbed to death in an off-campus house.
13:15The judge delivering several setbacks to Brian Koberger's defense, including allowing specific testimony from one of the survivors.
13:22Here's ABC's chief national correspondent, Matt Gutman.
13:25Tonight, the judge in the case against Brian Koberger largely siding with prosecutors in a string of rulings on what evidence will be allowed at his upcoming trial.
13:33Judge Stephen Hippler clearing the way for the state's expert, who will testify Koberger's DNA was found at the crime scene on a knife sheath like this one.
13:42What does a knife sheath at a scene mean? That's going to be the ultimate question.
13:47Prosecutors claiming Koberger bought the knife and sheath on Amazon before he stabbed four college students to death near the University of Idaho.
13:55As for that surviving roommate heard on that 911 call, the judge ruling her account of seeing a masked intruder with bushy eyebrows can be used at trial.
14:08The defense claimed it would bias the jury, but the judge called her descriptions remarkably consistent.
14:14Prosecutors want to show the jury Koberger's eyebrows in this selfie that they say was taken just hours after the murders.
14:21Finally, that white Hyundai Elantra spotted on security cameras at and around the crime scene.
14:26The judge allowing a state expert to testify that it is the same make and model that Koberger drove.
14:34And, Lindsay, that judge also ruling that evidence of Koberger's autism spectrum disorder can be used as part of his defense and to explain some of his more bizarre behavior.
14:42But only if Koberger takes the stand himself.
14:45His lawyers, Lindsay, insist he's innocent.
14:48Matt, our thanks to you.
14:50Tonight, the Trump administration is sending mixed signals about peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.
14:56Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggests the U.S. could move on if talks don't progress after repeatedly insisting he could stop the war in 24 hours.
15:04What President Trump is now saying?
15:06Here's ABC's chief international correspondent, James Longman.
15:09Donald Trump once said he could broker a deal to stop the war in Ukraine in just 24 hours.
15:14Well, tonight, the U.S. is threatening to walk away from peace talks if a deal with Russia isn't reached now.
15:20Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Paris for meetings with European leaders had this surprisingly blunt warning on Friday.
15:26We need to figure out here now within a matter of days whether this is doable in the short term.
15:32Because if it's not, then I think we're just going to move on.
15:35The Trump White House first proposed a 30-day ceasefire back in March.
15:38Ukraine agreed.
15:39Russia did not.
15:40Trump then spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin in a more than two-hour phone call.
15:45A different deal was proposed.
15:47It came and went.
15:48The fighting continued.
15:49This Russian drone strike in the city of Sumy killed one person and injured another just last night.
15:55But most of the pressure from the White House seems to have been placed on its supposed ally, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky,
16:01particularly after that Oval Office shouting match.
16:03You're gambling with World War III.
16:05Tonight, the president pressed on whether Russia is serious about peace.
16:09Do you think Russia's playing you?
16:12No, nobody's playing me.
16:13I'm trying to help.
16:15Lindsay, the bottom line is if the U.S. does pull out of peace talks, that is a win for the Kremlin because Vladimir Putin's forces are advancing on the battlefield.
16:22Lindsay?
16:23James Longman for us.
16:25Overseas tonight, dozens killed in a massive U.S. airstrike targeting Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.
16:30The attacks aimed at a port in the northwestern part of the country.
16:33At least 75 people killed.
16:36The U.S. assault comes ahead of this weekend's nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran.
16:40When we come back, we're tracking severe storms for your holiday weekend.
16:43Tens of millions on alert.
16:45Lee Goldberg is standing by.
16:47And the daring helicopter rescue, an injured hiker and a friend calling 911 themselves from the top of a mountain.
16:54Next tonight, we're tracking severe storms over the holiday weekend from Texas to the Great Lakes.
17:00More than 50 million people on alert.
17:03Let's get right to meteorologist Lee Goldberg from our New York station, WABC.
17:07Lee, give us a sense how concerned you are about these storms.
17:11Lindsay, the last thing we want to see is another slow-moving front over the middle of the country.
17:14That's what we have.
17:15On the eastern side of the front, it's a surge of summer.
17:17On the western side, it's winter with snow in the central Rockies.
17:20Severe weather from Abilene to Chicago tonight.
17:22That severe weather threat will start to shift south and east.
17:25By the way, tornado threat is enhanced over Oklahoma.
17:27The severe threat is near Dallas tomorrow.
17:29The flood threat is more enhanced from Texas up to Illinois, up to six inches of rain.
17:34By Easter Sunday, stormy over the middle of the country, dry on both coasts.
17:37It's cooler in the northeast again.
17:38Lindsay?
17:38All right, Lee, thank you.
17:40When we come back, a daring helicopter rescue, an injured hiker and a friend called 911 from the top of a mountain.
17:48To the index, a dramatic rescue caught on camera.
17:51An injured hiker stranded, her friend calling 911 in the mountains east of Seattle.
17:56The sheriff's office sending help down for the hiker.
17:59She secured and pulled up to the chopper with the rescuer.
18:02When we come back, the four-year-old who sparked a comeback for an NHL team.
18:07Finally, the fan favorite four-year-old who inspired a comeback.
18:12It was the third period at Honda Center.
18:16The Anaheim Ducks versus the Calgary Flames.
18:19The Ducks down two goals.
18:22The noise you're hearing as they're showing up on the jumbotron, Anaheim fans and Calgary fans.
18:28If enthusiasm were a person, four-year-old Brandon York fits the bill.
18:33A Ducks fan projected on the jumbotron who turned all the frowns in the arena upside down.
18:39The momentum shift soon followed.
18:45The Ducks went on to win 4-3 in overtime.
18:50The Ducks posting on Instagram,
18:53a special moment for four-year-old Brayden York turned into a rallying spark for our team.
18:59We brought him and his family down after our thrilling OT win Wednesday night to meet everyone.
19:04How's it going? It's nice to meet you.
19:06A high-five for a high-flying four-year-old getting to meet all his favorites up close.
19:13Brayden given a hockey puck and some of the credit for inspiring the team.
19:18I saw that during the game.
19:19They loved you.
19:20They loved you tonight.
19:21They watched you, yeah.
19:21You had the whole building on fire.
19:24The new team hype man.
19:26Thanks so much for watching.
