00:00As part of the government's broader push to improve the country's agriculture sector
00:05and uplift the lives of thousands of Filipino farmers,
00:08more than a thousand kilometers of farm-to-market roads have been constructed.
00:13These roads are seen as lifelines that connect remote farming communities to major trade centers.
00:19PTV's Clay Zilpardilia has the story.
00:24Ensuring a sufficient supply and affordable prices of food,
00:28that is one of the top priorities of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s administration.
00:34The national government is actively building farm-to-market roads that directly connect farmlands to public markets.
00:41Since President Marcos assumed office, 865 linear meters of bridges have been completed.
00:47A total of 1,162 kilometers of farm-to-market roads has been constructed.
00:54That's nearly the same distance from Metro Manila to Upper Ricagayat.
00:58Plus the stretch of the NCR all the way to Sorosugon.
01:01This includes farm-to-market roads in northern Mindanao, personally visited by the President.
01:43Farm-to-market roads are important.
01:46They make transporting goods faster and more efficient.
01:50That means food reaches consumers fresher.
01:53It also reduces transportation costs, helping bring down prices of goods.
01:58If we can reduce the travel time, it will definitely also reduce the fuel consumption.
02:04And it will benefit all travelers and also those that will transport.
02:11These roads and bridges also open up opportunities for communities, for businesses and jobs, to easier access to essential services.
02:20President Marcus Jr. also focused on delivering agriculture, machinery, and equipment.
02:26Around 50,000 farm tools and facilities have been distributed to farmers, cooperatives, and associations.
02:32One example is the rice drying machines given by the Department of Agriculture to the farmers in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
02:39This help prevent rice spoilage and improve grain quality, allowing farmers to sell their harvests at fair and decent prices.
02:48Another key initiative is the construction of cold storage facilities like the one in Alcala, Pangasinan.
02:54This serve as food warehouses to store surplus supply for release and distribution when consumer demand is high.
03:01Lahat na ito ay may isa lamang layunin.
03:04Tiyakin ang mas maraming ani, ang mas mataas na kita, mas maayos na buhay para sa ating mga magsasakah.
03:12Kaleizal Pordilia, Balitang pambansa.
