00:00A rescue mission in the Colorado wilderness nearly failed when a man who got separated
00:12from his hunting party was almost overlooked by the search team who mistook his calls for
00:18help. Emergency services were contacted when someone from a hunting party didn't return
00:23to their camp. The hunting party was staying in the woods between Surprise Lake and Upper
00:28Cataract Lake in northern Colorado. Flight for Life immediately launched a quick scouting
00:33mission but couldn't locate the missing man. They called for an on-foot search by seven
00:37members of the rescue group. Crews divided up and searched the trails around where the
00:42area was the lost man they thought was. Soon thereafter, the pilot spotted someone they
00:49believed could have been the missing man. He's saying hi, though, the pilot said, so he doesn't
00:56seem to be in distress. I don't think this is the guy. So they left.
01:01Oh, wait. So I'm just like, hey, oh, God, thanks for coming to rescue me, but I look too
01:06happy. Okay, so we've learned something. We've learned something. If you see a helicopter,
01:12you better and you need to be saved. You better really jump around and pilots maybe check just
01:19to see, like, it's the only human being you saw from the first hour of your search.
01:23It's on the helicopter.
01:26I think he's saying hi to you. He's always like, hey, have you seen a guy?
01:31That's pretty dumb.
01:33It's me. I'm the guy.
01:34Hey, hi, hello. Hi there.
01:36Oh, he's too happy.
01:37Oh, he's just saying hi.
01:39Oh, man.
01:39That's not a guy.
01:41He'd pretty quickly become unhappy.
01:43Hello. Wait. Wait.
01:45Yeah.
01:46Where are you going? Hello.
01:48Time to sleep in the woods, Dave.
01:49So mad.
01:50Luckily for that guy and everyone else involved, the ground crews located him shortly after
01:56the helicopter took off.
01:58All right.
01:59But they say the situation should teach everyone if you're lost in the woods, you need to know
02:05the proper way to signal for help. It's not, oh, hey there.
02:08Hi.
02:09Yeah.
02:10It's not that.
02:11No.
02:11What do you do?
02:12I would double wave.
02:13Get on your knees and wave aggressively.
02:16You know.
02:18They're putting it on this guy.
02:20I know.
02:21Yeah, they are. They're putting it on the guy.
02:23I can't believe that.
02:23They say what you should do, Lisa, is wave aggressively both arms over your head back and forth over
02:30and over again. Like here, over here, over here. Or wave a brightly colored piece of clothing.
02:37Something to say, I'm the person you're looking for.
02:41Ah, yeah.
02:42A white, a bright piece of clothing.
02:44Yes, a bright piece of clothing.
02:46It's tough.
02:46If you have it.
02:47Yeah, because I have all camo.
02:48It's all on you, people.
02:49Wear bright underwear. You can rip them off and wave them at all.
02:51That's a great strategy.
02:52That is a great.
02:53I got some man thonglings I can send them.
02:55Finally figured out how to get out of all those camping trips with my wife. Thanks for the tip, Dave.
03:01When you see me waving my arms in here, I'm just practicing for the helicopters.
03:04Over here. Over here.
03:07You picked them up.
03:08I think that if I did need to be rescued, though, I would do this.
03:12This one.
03:13I don't think I would do this.
03:13That's like the international symbol of it.
03:16Yeah.
03:16I see that in movies and stuff.
03:18Wouldn't wave.
03:19He was way too calm about it all.
03:22He was just like, hey, guys.
03:23Yeah.
03:24Maybe he was weak.
03:26You're right.
03:26Oh, I don't know.
03:27Yeah.
03:28Imagine one of your arms is injured or whatever, and they're like, oh, no, forget it.
03:34Yeah.
03:35He doesn't care enough.
03:36It's kind of like when Dave would give away prizes on our show, and people would be like, oh, wow.
03:42Oh, yeah.
03:44Yeah.
03:44Oh, great.
03:45Nickelback tickets.
03:46Awesome.
03:47Thanks, man.
03:49I don't think anything made you more mad at that time.
03:51No, I don't think.
03:52I don't think so.
03:53No, for some reason, that really burned my biscuits.
03:56It really did.
03:56It did.
03:57And I could see.
03:58You just won $1,000.
04:00I can't even imagine.
04:01And somebody would be like, oh, that's nice.
04:03Cool.
04:03Yeah.
04:04Okay, man.
04:04I mean, I should have realized half of them were stoned, so their reaction wasn't going
04:08to be amazing.
04:09But I just, if you were Captain Dave, and you're flying in this, and you're like, mm,
04:15he's not, you know what?
04:16He's not happy enough for us to rescue.
04:19No.
04:19No.
04:20No, we're not coming down there.
04:21We're not coming down there.
04:22I mean, do you really want to rescue or not?
04:23Do you want us to be down there?
04:25Are we going to just leave there?
04:28Sorry, you son of a bitch.
04:30Hell, but I really need to be rescued.
04:32No, yeah, right, you son of a bitch.
04:34No, like, furry, I'm lost.
04:36Whatever, loser, we're going to fly until we find someone who really wants to be saved.
04:39That's me.
04:40I really want to be saved.
04:42I don't know how else to signal that.
04:43Oh, yeah, because you look like you want to be saved, waving one arm.
04:46My other arm is broken.
04:48I fell.
04:49I don't know that I can actually lift it.
04:51It hurts really bad.
04:52Please.
04:52I don't care what he's saying right now.
04:53Come save me.
04:54He doesn't look enthused at all.
04:56I think I hear bears.
04:57Let's go find someone who's enthused.
04:58Mountain lions.
04:58Can somebody please?
05:00Throw a rope down, and I can hold onto it with my arm.
05:02Fly away.
05:03No, please.
05:04Oh, why are they leaving?
05:05Oh, my God.
05:06Why?
05:07Why have they forsaken me?
05:09If you, if Captain Dave is up there, you better react.
05:15You better.
05:15That's clearly who they were dealing with.
05:18I covered that in my scout book.
05:21The proper way to signal a rescue helicopter.
05:23No.
05:24Real panic.
05:24I need to see real panic.
05:25That's it.
05:26And real relief that we're there for you.
05:28Exactly.
05:28You don't show me that.
05:29Good luck.
05:31You're on your own.
05:32Yep.
05:33Jackass.
05:34Jackass.
05:35Captain Dave gets awards for, like, keeping so many funds in the account because he just
05:40ignores so many rescues.
05:42So many people die in that forest.
05:44Not my fault.
05:46Search a rescue budget.
05:47We are, like, we are balanced.
05:48Yeah.
05:49You really want it.
05:50You'll get to act like it.
05:52We are balance.
05:52But we're not.
06:08We are, like, we are.
06:08We're just going to answer.
06:09We're good.
06:10We're going to get to you.
06:10We're going to ask, like, keep on.
06:11We're going to do soccer.
06:12We're going to happen.
06:12We're going to beелен.
06:13We're going to go.
06:14We're going to be one of the other.
06:15We're going to be in a first place.
06:16Thanks for the feedback.
