Ballarat coach Ash Baker after win over Lake Wendouree on Anzac Day
Transcript
00:00Performance today, that second quarter really set the game up for you, didn't it?
00:03Yeah, they did. They did.
00:04Like Lake Wendoree, sorry, we knew they'd crack in pretty hard from the start.
00:09They did. Got a couple of goals on the board.
00:11We were able to work back and kind of neutralise that at quarter time
00:14and then really get into our work in that second quarter.
00:17Didn't feel like there was much of a wind out there,
00:19but it seemed to be the scoring end most of the way, though.
00:21Yeah, it did. I couldn't put anything on it as well,
00:25but it did seem to be the scoring end down this way.
00:27Tell me a little bit about what I noticed watching you guys today.
00:30You seemed to always be in the right position.
00:32There'd be a contest, the ball would spill out,
00:34and it'd spill into one of your guys' hands,
00:35and you were able to gain that territory.
00:37Yeah, and look, it was a territory game.
00:39Yeah, first couple of rounds, we've enjoyed flicking the ball around
00:42and being able to spread, but we couldn't do that as much today.
00:44So just having the guys, yeah, positioned around the stoppages
00:48as a stoppage every game was important for us
00:51so that we could then get some territory going forward.
00:53But I felt that you never really, other than that first quarter,
00:57which was, you know, nip and tuck,
00:59I felt that there was never a moment where you even considered
01:01letting them back into the game, though.
01:02You were able to keep it going for that fourth quarter.
01:04Yeah, yeah, we were.
01:05I mean, to Lake Rinders' credit, they did.
01:07We got the first two, I think it was, at the third quarter,
01:09and then they got a couple back and had some good momentum there
01:12for that middle patch of that third quarter.
01:14They couldn't get a fourth.
01:15They couldn't get a fourth.
01:15I mean, when they got a fourth, they looked like they could score,
01:17but it was your midfield.
01:18Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was.
01:20I mean, I was trying to keep it in our forward half
01:22for as long as we could,
01:23but we were always wearing that slingshot over the back
01:25and in conditions like today.
01:26Yeah, yeah, exactly.
01:27Did you get through unscathed?
01:28It looked like you got through pretty well.
01:30Yeah, we did.
01:31We had a little bit of cramp with young Jack Harwood
01:33in his hamstring,
01:34so we'll just assess whether that's cramp
01:36or anything more sinister,
01:38but we'll assess that over the next couple of days.
01:40And the, obviously, the day itself,
01:42what did you make of the whole day?
01:43Yeah, yeah, it was a fairly significant day for us.
01:47We, a fair chunk of the boys,
01:49were down at the 8 a.m. service
01:50at the Arch of Victory down there this morning
01:52just to take in all that the day has to offer,
01:56and they certainly enjoyed the opportunity
01:58to play on this great day.
01:59Wonderful, mate.
