The Grand Fishing Adventure S01E04
Transcript
00:00Well, this is the fish from First Light.
00:03You see, she's gone, she's gone, she's gone, she's gone.
00:08Well that was the fish from First Light.
00:14Two friends.
00:15I'm glad you give me the head end.
00:17On a fishing bucket list tour.
00:19Lovely fish.
00:21Footballing fisherman Bobby Zamora.
00:23That is the greatest fishing moment of my life.
00:26And me, Ali Hamidi.
00:28Oh, yeah!
00:30Oh, he's got it!
00:31We're kicking off in the Great British Isles.
00:34Look at that coastline.
00:36Visiting some of its most iconic angling venues.
00:39It's more like the Cope of Cabana.
00:41Living it up Bankside.
00:43This is incredible.
00:44Ours is not looking like that, is it?
00:46And we'll be catching some of Britain's biggest and best fish.
00:50Wow. UK, thank you.
00:53Got my new PB.
00:54Big Al!
00:55This is the Grand Fishing Adventure.
00:59Oh, Bobby Zamora.
01:02Listen, just focus, mate.
01:03That's what I do.
01:04I'm focused.
01:04Don't worry about me, mate.
01:05I'll turn it on a sixpence.
01:06Farmer's Field with a trout lake in it.
01:19Did you ever poach any farmer's fields when you were little?
01:21No, not really.
01:22There weren't too many farmers in East London.
01:24I grew up round here, so there was plenty of farms.
01:27What UK tour would be complete without a spot of trout fishing?
01:31Well, we were in Rabness in Essex to try our hand at fly fishing, a genre that needs class,
01:47finesse, patience.
01:48We'll be fine, right?
01:49Give me your best trout, pal.
01:53The trout's pout, though.
01:55See, I've always wondered that, mate.
01:56I don't think they have lips.
01:59Anyway, the secluded private farm lake we were heading for was pretty special,
02:04as it held four different species of trout.
02:07The more well-known brownies, along with rainbows.
02:11The less common spartic trout.
02:14Oh, and wait for this one.
02:15Tiger trout.
02:18Obviously, we hadn't got a clue how to fly fish,
02:21so it enlisted the help of fly fishing connoisseur Ray Kelvin.
02:25Our answer to JR Hartley, or as we call him in Essex, Raymundo.
02:30You make it look so easy.
02:31Hello, lads.
02:33Is it easy?
02:34Ah, it's just easy, back and cast.
02:39Easy, tick, tock.
02:42And the key is to make sure you keep your wrist tight.
02:49Tight to your body and your cast in such a fashion.
02:52But stop at the top.
02:54So it's tick, tock.
02:57Basically, pull a pint, throw a dart type action?
03:00Pull a pint, throw a dart and not go backwards.
03:04We'll get some fly rods and we can have a go, yeah?
03:06Yes, I'd really, really enjoy that.
03:09People like Ray make it look so easy.
03:11It's an art form watching them, but I can assure you,
03:14it is really, really not that easy.
03:16To be honest, what I'm looking forward to and what my mission is,
03:19is being able to cast.
03:20Get it out there.
03:21Don't get a hook in my eye.
03:22Get a couple of trout.
03:24Possibly more species than Ali.
03:26So the mission was to catch as many very trout as possible.
03:29More like mission impossible.
03:31Go on, lads, off you go.
03:34All right, let's give this one a whirl.
03:36Oh, look at this.
03:37A poetry motion.
03:38It's like I've done it before.
03:40I was quite happy with that.
03:42I'll take that one.
03:45Didn't hurt anyone yet, did I?
03:46We've only just started.
03:48Plenty of time for that.
03:50Oh, I nearly got you, Ray.
03:53Remember, guys, tick, tock.
03:57Stop, Bob.
03:58God, I'm glad you're out.
04:04Oh, Ali's in.
04:06That was a nice cast.
04:08Come on, Ali.
04:09What is it?
04:10That don't look like a carp.
04:12You going to jump in?
04:13Of course you're going to jump in.
04:15That's what we do round here.
04:16We just catch fish.
04:18Born to fish.
04:19That is a very wriggly, spartic trout, apparently.
04:24Never caught one in my life, so a fishing first
04:27for the grand fishing adventure.
04:29Well done, Al, mate.
04:30Off the mark, pal.
04:31Jealous, I'm jealous.
04:33Spartic trout, a rare breed that's a cross between an arctic char
04:37and a brook trout.
04:38So I'm told.
04:40See you, mate.
04:41Well done, Al.
04:42That was terrific.
04:43I take all the credit for that, I hope.
04:46Amazing teacher.
04:47It's all in the teaching.
04:48No, it's all in the wrist.
04:50So I've had a few casts with that black leech.
04:53Didn't like it.
04:54So I've gone on to a white fly.
04:56Let's see how it goes.
05:00That's bosh.
05:02Terrible by me there.
05:03That was incredible by me.
05:04These are the ones you get a bite on, though, these.
05:06Them bad casts.
05:08Yeah!
05:09Oh, what a mighty whitey, I told you.
05:11Oh, well done, Bobby.
05:12And it's twice the size of that.
05:13Whoa, a bit of power on that one.
05:15Let me get that one back.
05:16I'll be coming out of it quickly.
05:18Whoop, whoop, whoop.
05:19Yes!
05:21Well, that's a good size, isn't it?
05:23My first Spartac trout.
05:27Thank you very much.
05:28Let's get you back.
05:29That was a rainbow trout.
05:30It wasn't a Spartac.
05:31Oh, well, that's two species we've had.
05:33Yeah.
05:34Well done, Bob.
05:34Let's go for another.
05:35Well done.
05:36I thought the first fish was a Spartac trout, just after seeing Ali's.
05:40What do I know about a trout?
05:42Turns out it was a rainbow.
05:43Yeah, he knows football.
05:45Fly fishing ain't his thing.
05:47And the trout score was currently one-all.
05:51Oh, yeah, we're on.
05:53Was this a new species?
05:55Go on and get that net in.
05:56She's ready.
05:58There you go.
05:58Ah, a repeat Spartac.
06:00Still one-all.
06:01Yeah, he's in again.
06:02I'll get the net, shall I?
06:03Yeah, please, sir.
06:05Be gentle.
06:06Ready, mate?
06:08What is that?
06:09What is that?
06:10That's got some nice pattern, that.
06:11That is a tiger.
06:14Look at that.
06:16Now, one day they're called tigers.
06:18Look at that pattern.
06:20Beautiful.
06:21There could be real tigers, Danny.
06:22You know, they've got some rare species in this region.
06:25Telling you.
06:26Tiger trout, a rare hybrid that is notorious for being aggressive.
06:30Oh, it'd be nice to catch one of them tiger trout you've had, mate.
06:33Yeah.
06:34Well, can we go a full ass, though?
06:35Can one of us get a brown trout?
06:38I'd just be happy not to walk in my line all the time.
06:40Bloody hell.
06:41I know.
06:43Pull a pint, throw a dart.
06:45Pull a pint, throw a dart.
06:48Pull a dart, throw a pint.
06:51Taken to this, honestly, like a duck to cement.
06:56Not only was my casting getting worse, so was the fishing weather.
07:00Starting to smell the cart plate cooling, Bob.
07:02It's a heavy cool as well.
07:05Right then, Bob.
07:05This is it.
07:06Last retrieve.
07:08When it's overcast, you're getting loads of follows, loads of action.
07:11The minute the sun comes out, it just seems to slow up.
07:14It's like all types of fishing, really.
07:16They don't like the sun, the fish, do they?
07:19Jolly good fun.
07:20That's what that was.
07:22Jolly good fun.
07:24But more fun for Bob, as he won 2-1 in species.
07:29Thank you so much.
07:30That was absolutely amazing.
07:32Loved it.
07:32It's pleased you came.
07:34That was lovely.
07:35Thank you, Ray.
07:35Enjoyed yourself?
07:36I had a great time.
07:37Enjoyed it, yeah.
07:38How did we do?
07:39Really, really average.
07:41I've got to be honest.
07:43Car fishing?
07:44Car fishing it is.
07:45Thank you, Ray.
07:46Cheers, Ray.
07:46See you.
07:47Keep in touch for yourselves.
07:49Back to what we know best, Bob.
07:51So, we headed north to Cambridgeshire to the mother of all carplakes, a venue that holds true UK giants.
07:58What do you say then, Dazzler?
08:01This is it.
08:03This is the one.
08:04This is what we've been waiting for.
08:07This is it.
08:07Big game.
08:09Oh, I can feel the power in your slats.
08:12I can't wait to see the place.
08:14Well, the wait was finally over.
08:21The mighty Grenville.
08:23An insane 70-acre mature gravel pit.
08:27With depths up to 38 feet.
08:29Rich in oxygen and the perfect environment for giant carp.
08:33The stock it holds is mind-blowing.
08:36Around 2,000 carp.
08:38All 100% UK bred.
08:40With 80 over 40 pounds.
08:4217 over 50 pounds.
08:45And at least three over the magical 60-pound barrier.
08:49Ooh la la.
08:50I've never fished a carp lake in the UK with carp this size.
09:01Neither have you.
09:02Yeah, it's a big stage.
09:04It's a big stage.
09:04It's a little bit like one of the biggest games of my career, but in the fishing world.
09:08So I'm going to do what I played.
09:10When I played in big games, I relaxed, enjoyed it and hope those good things come.
09:15But you've got to work hard as well, you know.
09:16So that's the way I'm going to play it this week.
09:18Love it, Zambo.
09:20But this wasn't going to be easy and swim choice was going to be key.
09:24With a big, warm, southerly wind pushing into the far corner, we decided to start in swims
09:29where we could target the shallower, warmer water either side of the island.
09:34Ideal areas cold-blooded carp would normally frequent this time of year.
09:38So the intel has told us that these are very good swims certainly this time of year,
09:43but it is a feature, different depths and I love the island as well and they love a margin.
09:49So it's a good place for us to start, that's for sure.
09:53Our plan was to get set up but to not start fishing until the following morning.
09:58Although we did want to start getting some freebie grub out there for the carp.
10:02A mix of different Selenlink boilies, hole and crush, also pellets and sweet corn.
10:07Plus we had a proper Brucey bonus way of getting it out there quickly.
10:12What a touch that is. Paul De Ono runs the syndicate, he's out there baiting up.
10:18All the members on here get that facility.
10:21Kosaminer and Senna, he's probably putting in about seven or eight key of bait on me and Bobby.
10:29Nice big area as well, just mean you've got a nice big nursery for the big carp.
10:34And huge carp were number one on the agenda with Bob beating his UK PB being the ultimate mission.
10:44Very hard but it is my last opportunity on our trips and I don't want to let it slip away.
10:50Time to get some rest as the biggest match of our lives would kick off in the morning.
10:56Coming up, can Bobby convert two early chances?
11:02No way.
11:04Double check.
11:05We were at one of the UK's premier carp venues.
11:17The number one mission for Bobby to beat his UK PB.
11:21Rigs were being locked and loaded with higher tracked hookbaits to be fished over big beds of bait.
11:26Both of us were using a mix of D-rigs that would lay flat on the deck but also hinged stiff rigs where the hookbait would sit up just off the lake bed.
11:36So this is a stiff hinged rig boom section nicely on the bottom and then this with a little bend in it will sit just pretty off the bottom.
11:46One of those big carp would come along and gobble it up.
11:49I was cast into my baited area just off the island at 144 yards. A fair old chuck.
11:56One, two, three.
12:02Absolutely on the money.
12:04Zambo was having to use a bait boat to reach a spot just under the power lines.
12:10Rod sorted. Ring on the big girls.
12:13A few hours passed as we eagerly awaited the first bite knowing it could be a true monster.
12:25This trip it's all about Bobby. I really want him to beat his PB. Actually more than that I'd like to beat my PB.
12:34My plan currently unless I see a thousand fish all calling my name down the other end of the lake I'm going to sit on my hands.
12:44Six hours later and shock Bobby had gone looking. With the action slow Dazzler had seen signs of fish down to his right very close in.
12:54Proper margin browsers up to a hundred of them confirmed by our eye in the sky.
12:59With the springtime warmth these fish had decided to really get together for a good old chit chat and Bobby wanted in.
13:05It was an all out stealth attack for Bob.
13:11I wanted to sit on my hands the whole time in one swim and sit on a big bed of bait but the opportunity is too good to turn down.
13:18There's a lot of fish here. It's worth a go.
13:21Bob was dropping a higher tracked hook bait on a hinged stiff rig just a metre or two
13:31from the carp in the margin. This was a super exciting first opening for Zamo.
13:36There's two fish right here. Not necessarily big. They're right under the rod tip. I'm just going to drop a second rod just there as well.
13:45If this plan worked it could be totally explosive. Anticipation levels were fever pitch. You could smell the big carp.
13:54That one didn't take long did it? Must have been in the water about two minutes.
14:09And now she screams. So the first bite very nervous. Obviously want to get it on the bank desperately and
14:19knowing what's in here as well. Please, please, please, please. No way. Double shake. Lee, you're going to have to come in pal.
14:32What a dramatic entrance by crew member Lee Whittaker. No need to try and two foot tackle Bobby.
14:38But could they convert both chances? We didn't expect that one.
14:44The first was a small mirror landed by Lee.
14:46Get him. Looks like a good fish. But was Bob playing the carp of his dreams on the other rod? Please.
14:58Come on. Oh, here we go.
15:01Oh, wow. Oh, wow. This definitely looked bigger than the first. Come on, be good to me.
15:08Oh. Oh, it's a set of shoulders.
15:18Have you got the length as well?
15:20When carp are under the rod tip on a short line, it's nerve-wracking as too much pressure can cause a hook pull.
15:26Mega tense times for Bobby.
15:28So close. Come on, Bob. This carp looked massive. Don't lose it now.
15:38Oh, I'm nervous. Head first. Head first. Head first. Come on. Come on.
15:50Oh, yes. Get in now. Top bins, Zamora. Top bins.
16:00Oh, get in now. And that's a good fish.
16:07That. I'm going to go and say that is a PB. Look at the width of that fish.
16:20Look at it. That's incredible. That's why we go fishing. And I love stalking. Absolutely love it.
16:30I cannot believe it. That is absolutely enormous.
16:36That fish, landing that fish, double take, all the drama. That is like a last-minute winner in a playoff final.
16:44Put it here, bro. I need to have a look at that. That looks astronomically big.
16:50Speechless. Have a look.
16:52We realised Bobby had something very spectacular in the sling.
16:57Oh, you've annihilated your PB, I think, mate. How much buy, only the lift will tell.
17:05But before we waved the potential PB buster, Bob had a look at the small, scaly beauty.
17:11So this one's been overlooked, but it is an absolute banger.
17:16Fully scaled mirror. What a stunner.
17:21Fully scaled mirrors are actually quite rare, and this was a magnificent specimen.
17:28Time to find out whether Bob had actually smashed his long-standing UK PB of 43 pounds, 10 ounces.
17:35Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
17:40Oh, Bobby Dazzler!
17:42Go on.
17:43I can't. I'm just waiting for it to settle.
17:45Well, you've beat your PB.
17:48And? Go on.
17:49You've done 50 pounds.
17:53I've joined the club.
17:54Yes!
17:55Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
17:57That is...
17:5850.
18:0252.
18:0552.6.
18:09Well, let's get it down.
18:11Unbelievable, Jeff.
18:14Oh, mate.
18:15That's incredible.
18:17That's why we came here.
18:1852.
18:20That is officially the first fish you hooked.
18:23The first fish you hooked was a nifty.
18:27A carp of a lifetime right there in his arms.
18:34Yes!
18:35This is why we've come here, mate.
18:38To catch giant carp.
18:41And I've done it in about five minutes.
18:4352 pounds, six ounce carp from the UK.
18:51There aren't many anglers in the country that have done that.
18:57Time for the carpy tradition known as a PB soaking.
19:00And I'd enlisted the help of the lake owner's son, Freddie.
19:05You waiting for it?
19:07Go on, then. You do yours first, Freddie.
19:09Go, go, go.
19:13There's the slow one.
19:14Yeah?
19:15And then let's do the big one together, Freddie.
19:16Come here, come here.
19:17Ready?
19:21This one.
19:22They're nice and slow.
19:23They're nice and slow, Freddie.
19:28What a catcher.
19:30Unbelievable.
19:31I know what that means to him.
19:33A PB stalked it out the edge.
19:35You can't get better than that.
19:36Zamora's UK PB well and truly smashed in style.
19:50Big girl.
19:53What a carping achievement.
19:55One that will be very hard to beat.
19:57No more carp were caught overnight.
20:10But just after dawn broke on the lake of dreams,
20:14Zamora had the perfect wake-up call.
20:16His third carp of this trip.
20:20Good morning.
20:21Another very big scaly banger.
20:27A lovely old fish.
20:28And that is a hat trick for me.
20:31It weighed in just shy of the magical 40-pound barrier
20:35at 39 pounds 14 ounces.
20:37Incredible angling from Bobby Zed.
20:41But where was my action?
20:43Currently, I was just camping.
20:45Oh, away.
20:56Well, I had three, well, two different rigs out there.
21:02And this is the only one out there on a pop-up.
21:06The exact same set-up that Bobby has caught his impressive fish on.
21:11Because I feel like that's the method for this time of year.
21:17How big is it?
21:18That's that thing.
21:20In here, it can be a giant.
21:23Go on, Ali, lads.
21:24I had to get into the water sharpish.
21:27Not only to land it, but in case it kited to the right and into the reeds.
21:34It's quite a dogged fight, this.
21:35It's slow.
21:36Just nice to get off the mark.
21:39That's the...
21:40That's always what you want.
21:42It's no record-breaker, but it's certainly a nice one.
21:47Ah, here we go.
21:48Everything has done its job.
21:50Come on.
21:51Over the net cord.
21:53We are off the mark.
21:56Yes.
21:56Come on, boy.
21:59Pressure off.
22:00Fish in the net.
22:02It's a beautiful one as well.
22:03And it looked like it could be another Team UK 40-pounder.
22:09Coming up, more fab fish, plus a familiar face.
22:13That's absolutely beautiful.
22:15Daniel, my man, how are you?
22:24We were in Cambridgeshire where Bob had already smashed the mission of beating his UK Carp PB with his first fish.
22:32This is why we've come here, mate, to catch giant carp.
22:36With a 52-pound brute.
22:39But before we could set a new mission, he'd also had a 39-pounder.
22:43I'd had a potential UK 40, but before I could weigh it, it was all going off.
22:49My second carp was in the back of the net.
22:52Yes!
22:54Get in there.
22:56I'm going to have to go and take a look.
22:58Two in the net.
23:00Lovely.
23:00You're hot, mate.
23:01You're hot.
23:02But listen, is it a new PB?
23:04What?
23:05No.
23:05No, OK, listen, because they are back down in that corner and I'm hungry with some more.
23:10Your spots are rocking.
23:11I'd love to help you, mate, but they're calling me down there.
23:14Well done, and I'll see you in a bit.
23:16Greed is good, Bob.
23:17Greed is good.
23:18Too right.
23:20Madman buzzing for it.
23:22I weighed in my second carp, the smaller of the two, and what a looker.
23:27That is an absolutely incredible 30-pound carp on the button.
23:34It went back majestically too.
23:38The other carp, what an absolute unit.
23:4241 pounds, 13 ounces, have some of that.
23:45Get back in that lake.
23:48Hopefully see you again one day.
23:51What a sensational first 24 hours.
23:54We felt something really special could happen.
23:56A real mega carp haul.
23:59So we set ourselves a new mission.
24:01Could we catch 10 carp in total over the symbolic British barrier of 30 pounds?
24:07We still had five days ahead of us.
24:10For the rest of that day, Bob hang out in Carpy Corner.
24:13But only managing two of the lake's smaller stockies.
24:17They can't all be massive, Zamo.
24:20What a lovely afternoon.
24:22Thank you very much.
24:24Meanwhile, I've been busy tying up some rigs.
24:28Well, lost a bit of fishing time there, but it's for a good reason.
24:31I've now tied hinge rigs for every rod that's going to go back out there.
24:35Because that's what I've caught my two carp on, and Bobby has had all of his carp on.
24:40So it's obviously the method that's working.
24:43It means the fish come in and don't have to necessarily eat the food that's all out there.
24:47Because these sit off the deck, little pop-up, bait full of attraction and colour.
24:52They come in and hit it.
24:53And to a big carp, when it gets close to that, it looks on the bottom anyway.
24:56So time to make a small tactical tweak, but it's a tweak I know is going to work.
25:03And I was now using the bait boat with help from team member Gabby.
25:08The reason? Not just to get the rigs and bait out quicker,
25:11but I wanted to now reduce the loose feed, not rely on big boatloads from Paul, the owner.
25:16So more concentrated, smaller drops on the money with the baited rig,
25:21which was more suited to spring fishing.
25:25Bobby was doing the opposite.
25:27He was really loading up his boat, certainly not little and often,
25:31but lock and loaded with around five kilos of sell and link boilies in each drop.
25:36Big carp are known to love boilies.
25:39So would this higher bait quantity make a difference?
25:45No action for either of us during the night,
25:48but day three of carp fishing kicked off in style for Bob with what looked like yet another brute.
25:59Come on mate, he's having a great session. This is exactly what we wanted.
26:03Another huge landmark carp.
26:07So 40 pounds, six ounces, an absolute beast of a fish and a lovely morning wake up.
26:14Our rigs and baiting campaigns were working. We were now halfway to our new mission of 10
26:19carp weighing over 30 pounds, which included a 50 and two UK 40 pounders. And our total was about to go up.
26:28Cue the 30 pounder montage.
26:33Yes, another one bites the dust.
26:37Good.
26:38Lovely. What a fish.
26:49Pink boilie, bobbing out.
26:51Oh, it's good when carp fishing's like this.
26:55Fish up!
26:57Oh, middle rod's just gone off.
26:58That's another 30.
27:04We were now just one carp shy of our 10 carp over 30 pound target. The session of our lives. Just as two
27:12Michelin star chef Daniel Clifford arrived for the final Grand Fishing Adventure cook-off.
27:19That is a belter.
27:22That's absolutely beautiful.
27:24Daniel, my man. How are you?
27:25I'm really good. You?
27:26Very well. Look at that.
27:27Bobby, I've left some ingredients there.
27:30Picked 10 of them.
27:32I'll be back in about 40 minutes for lunch.
27:35All right, I better get this girl back.
27:36Better get going.
27:39We'd had to put everything we'd learned into creating an off-the-cuff dish with all of these posh ingredients.
27:46Yeah, really no idea.
27:48Really no idea on the veg front. It's completely bamboozled me.
27:51But I'd formulated a plan, sort of.
27:55I'm going to do my potatoes.
27:57Then I'm going to come up with some sort of vegetable concoction.
28:00And then I'm going to do my meat, which I can already see is lamb rum.
28:06I wonder how Zamora is getting on. Not very well, I'm guessing.
28:10Ideally, we get a lot of prep work done.
28:14And then I get fish just before I start cooking the lamb, which will make it null and void really.
28:20Come on, fish.
28:22I feel like I'm already messing this up.
28:24But the great thing is my competition is Bobby Zamora.
28:29Not going to get a job with you, am I, Daniel?
28:33I'm only boiling a potato and I can't even do that right.
28:36Well, no leading that.
28:39Typical footballer.
28:41So what are we doing?
28:42I'm doing some very nice fondants, sweet potatoes.
28:48This is progress.
28:49Is it?
28:50Yeah, yeah.
28:50All right.
28:51Down there it's carnage.
28:53Good luck.
28:54As confusion and a sense of cooking comp defeat was setting in for Bobby,
29:01he got just what he wished for.
29:07Daniel, do us a favour, pal.
29:09You couldn't just finish off my ingredients over there, could you?
29:13Oh, it's a big fish.
29:14Oh, it's pulling.
29:17Yeah, it feels like a heavier fish, mate.
29:19You know yourself when the way they play, the way they fight.
29:24Well, it's a good excuse to say the food's not too good.
29:26Yeah.
29:27Completely throw me out now.
29:29I don't know what to do with my food.
29:31I was staying on target.
29:33Lamb with butter, garlic and herbs.
29:36I think I'll allow you a bit more time.
29:38No, no, no, no, no.
29:40We're just void.
29:41Ali wins, Ali wins.
29:43Yeah, but the clock is ticking.
29:44I've got a feeling we're not going to get much food from Mr Zamora.
29:50Catching carb.
29:52He must have smelt your cooking, that's all I can say.
29:54Yeah, he's come up for that garlic.
29:56He'd say so, so I was putting together.
30:00Red wine's you.
30:01Let's try to make one.
30:03Some red wine stock, cream, shallots and a touch of scotch bonnet.
30:10You ready?
30:11Go on then, Chef.
30:12Get in there.
30:13Oh, man.
30:15Look at that.
30:17No, look at this.
30:20Double portions.
30:22Perfectly cooked lamb rump.
30:25Forty-four seven.
30:28Forty-four seven.
30:29Forty-four seven, yeah.
30:30Congratulations.
30:30That's a big fish.
30:31It's beautiful, man.
30:32Thank you for your help, my man.
30:33That's a pleasure.
30:33Well, it's got you out of cooking.
30:35Yeah.
30:35Thank you very much.
30:36What a fish.
30:38What a fish.
30:39I think you mean, what a dish.
30:41That carp was our tenth over 30 pounds.
30:46We'd now need yet another mission.
30:49Nice one, Zamo.
30:50Well done, boss.
30:51But before the new mission was set, an a la-carp meal Hamidi style.
30:56I'd won by default, but I still wanted to know how I performed.
31:00Oh, I'm starving after all that fish, all them fish.
31:07Look at that.
31:09I had to take that lamb off ages before because I knew we were going to be here empty-handed from you.
31:14Plenty of carp, just no food.
31:16Yeah, but look at the cuisson on the lamb.
31:19The cuisson?
31:19The cuisson.
31:20The cooking.
31:20Yeah?
31:21It's absolutely perfect.
31:23Right, do you want to try some?
31:24Yes, please.
31:25Go on.
31:26I'll have a bit of that lamb.
31:28Look at this.
31:31Go straight in for me.
31:33Wallet.
31:36Nice.
31:36Very nice.
31:37It's very tasty.
31:39Ali loves cooking.
31:40You can see it.
31:40He loves the excitement of it.
31:43He loves the taste of it.
31:44He loves food.
31:45So it's that for me.
31:46It's been an absolute pleasure.
31:47And to top it off, Bobby's caught an amazing fish.
31:50What a day.
31:52I think that's a really tasty plate of food.
31:54Really nice, mate.
31:55Both winners.
31:56We're both winners, mate.
31:58You won this.
32:00And I'm just over the moon with that fish.
32:02That would have been your PB that you already beat on the first day.
32:04Yeah.
32:05Funny old game, isn't it?
32:06It is, mate.
32:06And I got out in a cooking competition, so...
32:09Right touch.
32:10I love cooking.
32:13Daniel Clifford, what a legend.
32:15With Food for Thought, we had a new fishing mission.
32:18Could we now reach 30 carp over the £30 barrier in one session?
32:23An insane target for the UK, but we still had four nights left to go.
32:27In the early hours, Zamo was in again.
32:33This time, though, it was the first common carp of the trip.
32:36Yes.
32:38Lovely.
32:39Ooh, just shy of our £30-plus target.
32:42No sooner had he got the rod back out with another motherload of baiting HMS Dazzler.
32:52You beauty.
32:54£33 and the biggest of the two.
32:57Two common, uncommon carp.
33:00The 11th carp over £30 and a step nearer to the new 30 over 30 target.
33:08Get in, Zamo.
33:12The next day, our run of 30s continued in style, with five more between us.
33:18Unreal for the UK.
33:20Get in there.
33:22Something special was happening.
33:24Yeah, one more.
33:33Here we go.
33:34One step closer to victory.
33:36That was the 16th carp over £30, over halfway to our tally of 30.
33:43Coming up, during the final push, Zamora gets greedy.
33:47Go on, Dazzler.
33:48Are we a naughty 40?
33:50I've got a hat-trick of 40s today.
33:54We've now caught 16 incredible carp in Cambridgeshire over the £30 barrier.
34:04Insane stat for the UK.
34:07£41, 13 ounces.
34:09Have some of that.
34:10And we were attempting to hit a total of 30, 30-pounders with just three days to go.
34:19The morning started early for Zamo.
34:21His heavy baiting was bringing in the big girls.
34:25Freezing cold, but worth it.
34:28£41, what a lovely morning wake-up.
34:32With Dawn just around the corner, Bob secured it just so he could properly appreciate it in its full glory.
34:39Well, this is the fish from first light.
34:48And she, she's gone, she's gone, she's gone, she's gone, she's gone, she's gone.
34:56Well, that was the fish from first light.
34:58That was well worth the wait to appreciate that UK 40-pounder, eh, Bob?
35:12Half an hour later, he was only away again.
35:15Come on, Zamora, wake yourself up, son.
35:17Get those waders on sharpish.
35:19Freeze him this morning.
35:27Wake up.
35:28Concentrate, Zamora, we don't want any more mishaps.
35:32I mean, I want this piece of elastic slapping me in the face in a second.
35:35You look like that.
35:42Luckily, the director was on hand to sort him out.
35:46That's how I should have done it.
35:47It's beautiful.
35:48Now focus, Bob.
35:49This could be another giant and another step towards completing our mission.
35:54It has got big, slow head nods, which normally means a bigger fish.
36:02After a short, dogged battle, up pops yet another dinosaur of a carp.
36:12Good morning.
36:14Get in there.
36:14I think, I think it's another 40.
36:19It looked pretty massive.
36:21Bob's mega-boily baiting campaign seemed to be producing the biggest stamp of carp.
36:26But exactly how big was this one?
36:27I got 48 pounds on the nose.
36:32That is a giant.
36:35What a beast.
36:36This would actually be my original personal best as well.
36:42What a morning.
36:43What a carp and what a session for the Dazzler.
36:46His fifth 40-plus of the trip.
36:49Unbelievable angling.
36:51That is the second biggest carp I've ever caught in the UK.
36:55An absolute giant.
36:5712 to go until we hit the unimaginable target of 30 over 30.
37:03Bobby.
37:04What a beauty.
37:07Bobby is having a session of a lifetime.
37:11He's loving it.
37:12I mean, what he's caught is, for the UK carp fishing, is just off the Richter scale.
37:18The next four hours saw four more 30-pounders.
37:25Wowzers.
37:26Putting us on a team total of 22 over 30 pounds.
37:30Just eight away from our target.
37:33But I just couldn't seem to get another fish over 40 pounds, unlike Zamo.
37:37My pal in the other swim, he hasn't had the luck that I've had.
37:42He hasn't had as many fish, but he has in the past.
37:45So listen, it's my time to shine.
37:47And boy was he shining.
37:50I'd reeled in to go and see 40s for fun Zamora live in action.
37:56She's going a bit, this one.
38:00While you're the hauling machine, I might as well net one for you.
38:03You never know, it could be bigger than that big boy.
38:08You're loving life, aren't you?
38:09I am, mate. It's one of those red-letter days, pal.
38:12Red-letter, multiple days.
38:14Multiple days, yeah.
38:16Red-letter session.
38:17Excuse me if I'm slightly quiet.
38:20I'm a little bit nervous of this one for some reason.
38:22Very different take to the previous ones.
38:25Oh, Bobby Zamora.
38:30Oh, Bobby Zamora.
38:33Listen, just focus, mate. Just focus.
38:34I'm focused. Don't worry about me, mate.
38:36I'll turn it on a sixpence.
38:37Do you know what I mean?
38:38Oh, I'm focused.
38:38You never turned on a sixpence, did you?
38:42You're on a hot streak, isn't you?
38:44You won't get too many sessions like this in a lifetime, me old treacle.
38:48No, mate. I know that.
38:51Close now.
38:53Oh, it's just down here.
38:54If it's that big, its back will be out by now.
38:58Right, I'm going to get the net ready. I'm going to focus.
39:00My only problem is when it sees you, Al, it's going to be scared.
39:05No, it'll come to me.
39:06Oh, there you are. Hold up. Hold up.
39:09I suspect you're playing at least another 40-pounder here, Bob.
39:13It's a lovely, scaly one.
39:14Come on, Dazla.
39:25Get in there.
39:26That's a good 40, right?
39:28Are we a naughty 40?
39:29I've got a hat-trick of 40s today.
39:30Nah, I don't think so.
39:31Oh, don't do that to me.
39:33Actually, I was way off.
39:35It was yet another naughty 40.
39:3845 pounds on the nose, and that's a hat-trick of 40s today.
39:42Incredible.
39:45It certainly was.
39:46There's not many anglers in the UK to achieve a 40-pound UK carp hat-trick in a lifetime.
39:52Let alone a day.
39:54What a session.
39:57That's my fourth fish that has beat my original PB before coming here.
40:02That's incredible.
40:03I mean, I would take one.
40:04I've had four.
40:06And it was our 23rd over 30 pounds.
40:09I was just wishing for a hat-trick of 40s in this entire session.
40:13Not a day.
40:1536 hours to go, and two back-to-back 30-pounders for me.
40:22Putting us on a total of 25.
40:25Right now.
40:26But then my smallest of the trip.
40:28I was going down the size spectrum instead of up.
40:32I'll tell you what, maybe I'll go down there and give him a hand.
40:35Now you're just showing off.
40:37But maybe I needed to come up with a tactical change in order to tempt a real big'un.
40:43I'd sleep on it.
40:46The penultimate morning, and I'd hatched a plan for a bigger carp.
40:50But before I could action it, I had to help Bob out of a hole.
40:55He's in the loo.
40:59Bless him.
41:00Certainly feels bigger than the ones I often hook.
41:04Could this be another Team 30 or bigger?
41:07Go easy.
41:08Don't want to lose your mate's carp for him.
41:11Especially when he's massive.
41:13Nice scaly one.
41:15Look at that carp, by the way.
41:19That's definitely over 30 pounds.
41:22Thank you very much, Al.
41:25Helped me right out there while I was dropping the kids off at the swimming pool.
41:29You're welcome, mate.
41:30That 35-pounder puts us on a team total of 26 carp over 30 pounds.
41:36With just 24 hours to go, I could finally action my tactical tweak,
41:40fishing dissolvable solid PVA bags, a method I've often used that has singled out the bigger carp.
41:47Right, solid bag, going out.
41:50The idea was super concentrated feed around my hook bait.
41:54But would it bank me the real biggin I was after?
42:08Go on, the solid bags!
42:11I am really drew a decent fish.
42:14Even I'll say that.
42:16The boy is into a fish.
42:17Is it the big one?
42:21Or is he going to go with his normal stamp?
42:23A little bit like himself.
42:26Smaller.
42:28What's that snag... Is it snagged?
42:32Actually snagged in something.
42:35The fish had got itself snagged up on the deep marginal shelf out in front of me.
42:42I'm just going to stand here with the...
42:46I'll just...
42:48I'll just stand with a rod for now.
42:49I'll just wait for it to maybe pull out my finger.
42:53Wow. What are the chances of that?
42:57Stayed deep though, which is a good sign.
42:59But not a good sign that it got stuck in the shelf.
43:01It goes from bad to worse for Boulder head down there.
43:07He thinks he's into a good fish and now it is snagged, I believe.
43:12Oh!
43:14Swim back out.
43:15Swim back out, I think.
43:23We're back on.
43:25It swam back out.
43:26It did swim back out.
43:29But was it the £40 plus carp I really wanted?
43:33Moving slowly, still feels quite heavy.
43:36What are we going to get?
43:40It's got a lot of weed on it.
43:42Get out there, Gabby.
43:43That looks quite big.
43:45That looks quite big.
43:47Yes!
43:48Had I finally broken the £40 barrier again?
43:52Yes, my biggest carp of the trip to date.
43:56Result.
43:56I promise you, this is a very, very rare experience
44:00to catch carp like this, of this size.
44:0342 pounds.
44:05Four ounces!
44:07Clonker. Absolute clonker.
44:10Our 27th team carp over £30 and 8th over 40.
44:16Crazy stat and still 12 hours to go.
44:26Hours later, Bob banked yet another banger.
44:35Absolutely mega session.
44:3735 pounds of muscle, our 28th over 30,
44:41leaving us just too shy of our 30 over 30 target.
44:47We'd be leaving in the morning and I was praying for one more 40-pounder,
44:52as I'd never had three UK 40s in one session.
44:56Either way, we'd had one of the greatest UK carp hauls of all time.
45:04I was shattered, but I could see the carp was almost definitely over 30 pounds.
45:09But could it complete my hat-trick of 40-pounders?
45:15Yes!
45:18God knows what a 60-pounder would feel like in here.
45:21I'd wait till light to find out.
45:26But before I got the chance, Zamora had one more carp deep into injury time.
45:32Could it be our 29th over £30?
45:35Yes!
45:36Get in there, 21 feet!
45:40I think he's excited.
45:42I'm not surprised as it turned out to be his seventh carp over £40.
45:46And that is a last-minute winner and taps off the most unbelievable trip.
45:56For my UK carp fishing, this undoubtedly is the greatest session I've ever, ever had.
46:04Finally time to weigh my carp, surely our 30th team 30-pounder, but possibly also my hat-trick of 40s too.
46:17Done it?
46:17Yep.
46:1941 pound.
46:2212.
46:25You've had loads of hat-tricks, haven't you, in your life?
46:27They don't come often for little old me.
46:28That's amazing.
46:30This will take some topping in your fishing lifetime.
46:35That's how good this lake has been to us.
46:38I can't imagine actually ever experiencing a session like this ever again in the UK.
46:44Dazzler, do you know this is the greatest haul of big carp ever on UK television from a UK water?
46:56Well, congratulations to you.
46:58Congratulations more to you.
47:01Thank you very much.
47:02Tell you what, this truly has been an incredible ground fishing adventure.
47:06UK royally done.
47:07Kiss kiss on the lips, one on the lips, one on the lips, but maybe in the future.
47:14Yay!
47:16Baby, if I can bring you to a kiss from a rose on the grave
47:22Ooh, the more I get a new stranger, it feels easier
47:28And now that your rose is in bloom
47:32My light hits the gloom on the grave
