01:00Tonight, on Boxing After Dark, undefeated South African star Philip Holliday puts his world lightweight title on the line for the seventh time against hard-hitting and equally unbeaten Sugar Shane Mosley.
01:13And the junior lightweight matchup between El Diablo Angel Manfredi and Jorge Paez, the veteran fighter clown, now in his 75th professional belt.
01:22As the summer winds down here at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, we gear up for another exciting night of HBO's Boxing After Dark.
01:31Tonight, the main event hits an undefeated tried-and-tested veteran against an undefeated flashy fighter with a big punch and a big reputation.
01:40While our undercard features two men who know how to entertain the crowd, one an aggressive and exciting young fighter, the other a flamboyant veteran trying to reclaim the headlines he once commanded in a lower weight class as a featherweight.
01:54And hello again, everybody. I'm Jim Lampley. Welcome back to this edition of the show that's home to the real fights, Boxing After Dark.
02:03Tonight, we expect a lot of fireworks in our 130 and 135-pound bouts.
02:08Rising star Angel Manfredi goes against a cagey veteran Jorge Paez, who's seen everything in the first fight.
02:13And then Philip Holliday, who threw nearly 1,500 punches in this same ring in his initial appearance here on HBO Sports, will be going against Shane Mosley, who already wears the atmosphere of a legend coming in from Southern California.
02:29Working with me, as always, HBO Boxing Analyst Larry Merchant.
02:32And, Larry, as we look down the line toward the main event between Holliday and Shane Mosley, Philip Holliday made a sensational debut here on HBO Sports December 21 of last year.
02:41Is he in a position to enhance his already star-studded image with another great performance tonight?
02:48Well, his managers keep saying they throw him down these mine shafts against tough opponents and he just climbs out of them.
02:54But it's conceivable that they've sent him down a bottomless pit against Mosley, who is actually favored.
03:01And the question that they're asking in boxing is whether Shane Mosley is going to have the kind of sensational national debut tonight that Holliday did almost a year ago.
03:11Shane Mosley has been the subject of a lot of discussions over the years, and people are absolutely fascinated by him because he's one of those local legends in Los Angeles who sometimes, but not often, goes national.
03:25He's famous there as an amateur where he won 240 fights.
03:30He's famous for being a terror in the gyms, having fought the top pros since he's 15 years old.
03:38And now he's got a reputation as a KO artist, as a professional.
03:43He's up against a very tough, very busy, undefeated champion, so he'll have a lot to do to show that reputation as meaningful on this level of boxing.
03:54And as he gets ready for that, we get ready to look at the opening bout of the evening between 130-pounders Angel Manfredi and Jorge Paez Manfredi with his awesome collection of tattoos going against a guy who was raised as a clown and still sometimes performs as one.
04:09Calling both bouts with us tonight, three-division world champion Roy Jones, even as he trains for next Thursday night's pay-per-view outing against Montel Griffin, Jones Griffin II.
04:18Roy, welcome back, and as we get ready for this fight, Angel Manfredi is a guy who not only wants to win the bout, he wants to make a big impression.
04:25Does he play into the hands of the veteran Jorge Paez with that kind of mindset?
04:29First of all, Jim, it's according to which Paez shows up tonight.
04:33If the Paez that comes to win is here, then that would play in his hands because he's the best at entertaining the crowd and having fun in the ring.
04:40If the old, other, or the latest Paez we've been seeing at times shows up, then Manfredi will have an easy night.
04:46All right, well, we'll see about Manfredi as he tries to polish his star credentials against the veteran Paez, and here's the tale of the tape between the two fighters.
04:54You'll see that Paez gives up nine years in age to Manfredi.
04:59Manfredi with a one-inch height advantage.
05:00They both weighed in at 130.
05:02Angel weighs six pounds more as they reach the ring tonight, and a three-inch reach advantage for Manfredi as well.
05:07Well, rules at the bout with our unofficial ringside scorer, Harold Letterman.
05:11The Angel Manfredi-Jorge Paez fight is scheduled for 12 rounds.
05:16There is no standing eight count, no three-knockdown rule.
05:19The doctor or the referee can stop the fight, and you cannot be saved by the bell at any round, including the 12th and final round.
05:26Jim.
05:27All right, Harold.
05:28Manfredi made his HBO debut earlier this year in Atlantic City, defeating Wilson Rodriguez,
05:33and the man who had given all the difficulty that Arturo Gatti could handle to Gatti in an earlier appearance here on HBO's Boxing After Dark.
05:43And now here comes Paez, nine current or former past world champions on his dossier.
05:50Now, what is his get-up?
05:52Is he coming in as a monk or a nun?
05:59We were told to expect no theatrical entrance, so maybe this is just the everyday stuff.
06:04Right.
06:04He's come into the ring in a wedding dress, in a gas mask.
06:09He comes out of a circus tradition, from a family circus in northern New Mexico.
06:15He really has a keen sense of how to entertain and how to market himself.
06:24And he used to be a really, really good fighter.
06:28And they had to urge him to turn left and eventually find his way into the ring as he appeared determined to circumnavigate it.
06:36Terrific outfit for Jorge Maro Merro Baez.
06:39Maybe he's taking religious vows here tonight, just in case things don't work out for him.
06:4775th professional bout for Jorge Paez.
06:5059 wins, 11 losses, 4 draws, 39 KOs.
06:55He's seen and done just about everything in the ring.
06:58This is the same weight, 130 pounds, at which he was knocked out by Oscar De La Hoya about three years ago.
07:06Y'all ready for this?
07:09And as we mentioned, Paez has gained only three pounds today since last night's weigh-in at 130 pounds.
07:20He says that nothing Manfredi does to try to stir the crowd or draw attention to himself can possibly get under his skin.
07:27Because after all, who could possibly compete with his own image of himself?
07:33Well, he was a juggler.
07:35He was a trapeze artist.
07:36He was a tumbler when he was in the circus.
07:39Most kids run away and go to the circus.
07:43He ran away from the circus to become a prize rider.
07:45About nine years ago, Jorge Paez won his first world title, coincidentally, from Calvin Grove.
08:02Coincidentally, because a little less than two years ago, Angel Manfredi won his first world title.
08:07And he won it from Calvin Grove.
08:10Nails the record, and you can see that in his last 20 fights, he has 19 wins, no losses.
08:16He has 13 automobile accidents in his life.
08:21That's why he regards himself as El Diablo.
08:24Well, I once wrote a book called Ringside Seat at the Circus, and I feel that we're living it here tonight.
08:31Too bad they can't go ahead and fight with Manfredi wearing this Diablo mask over his head,
08:44and Paez in the nun costume, or the Trappist monk costume.
08:51And there's the record for Manfredi as he comes in with 21 wins, two losses, relatively early in his career.
08:58One draw, 17 KOs, red-hot recently.
09:03And red-hot is, you know, one of those no-pun-intended things,
09:07because El Diablo has festooned himself in devil-themed tattoos.
09:14They are all over his body.
09:17Well, if you look at his body, it's like a Rosetta Stone into his life story and his psyche.
09:28And Manfredi reluctant to take the jacket off and show you the tattoos,
09:36but here's what you'd be seeing if he did.
09:38The flames, right at trunk level.
09:41Right.
09:42We've heard of prize fighters with fire in their belly.
09:45He's got fire on his belly.
09:47And the names of his three children on the back.
09:56What about all these tattoos, Roy?
09:58What impression are they likely to present to Jorge Faez?
10:01Well, sometimes it means that a guy has been through a lot,
10:04or that a guy has learned his lessons.
10:05Sometimes it's a sign of maturity.
10:07A guy's growing.
10:08He's showing that he came from one thing to another,
10:10and it's sort of a symbol to let people know that he has graduated.
10:13All righty, let's graduate to the bout with ring announcer Mark Barrow
10:17for the official introduction.
10:19Good evening, ladies and gentlemen,

11:25Your referee for this event,
11:28from Leeds, England, welcome Mickey Vann.
11:31Introducing now the principals first
11:36in the blue corner to my right,
11:38wearing the brown trunks, white trim.
11:41He weighs in at 130 pounds.
11:44His professional record reads 59 victories,
11:4811 defeats, 4 draws,
11:50and 39 wins coming by way of knockout.
11:53El Hijo de Mexicali, Mexico,
11:56now making his home in Beverly Hills, California,
12:00the former IBF featherweight champion
12:02and challenger, Jorge Paez.
12:07Paez.
12:13His opponent in the red corner,
12:16wearing the white and red sequined flame trunks,
12:20also weighing in at 130 pounds.
12:24His professional record reads 20 victories,
12:28two defeats, one draw,
12:3015 wins coming by way of knockout
12:33from Gary, Indiana,
12:35and now making his home in East Chicago, Illinois,
12:39the WBU super featherweight champion of the world,
12:43Angel, El Diablo, Manfredi.
12:49Manfredi.
12:51Wild rounds for the WBU super featherweight championship.
12:56Water in it, water in it, water in it.
12:57Who water in the mouthpiece?
12:59Angel.
13:00Adelante.
13:01Okay.
13:02Adelante.
13:02He wants water in it.
13:04Angel.
13:10Adelante.
13:12Adelante.
13:13All right.
13:14You both had your instructions in the ring.
13:15You know what I want?
13:17Remember, no noughties with the head.
13:19Shake hands.
13:20Buddy calls.
13:20Good luck.
13:22Although Paez has confessed
13:25that he's had boxing up to the eyeballs
13:27and is looking forward to retirement,
13:30I sense he wants to make a real effort here tonight,
13:33which means that Manfredi,
13:37if he's going to make an impression,
13:38is going to have to discourage him early.
13:41Sometimes when Paez comes to make an impression,
13:45you can't discourage him.
13:47As you watch Jorge Paez,
13:49you'll note the unorthodoxy of his style.
13:51He throws no jabs,
13:53likes to rely on power punches instead,
13:55wants to work his way in with unusual head movement,
13:58sometimes crazy antics.
14:00Once he gets close,
14:01he wants to fire.
14:02Hard right-hand shot to the lower body by Manfredi.
14:06And Paez with a looping right hand across the top
14:09and a wide-swinging left hook.
14:11And Freddie will use the jab
14:13and wants to try to set up his offense against Paez
14:16by crisply working behind the left hand.
14:19That was a good body shot by Manfredi.
14:24This is an 18-foot ring, rather small.
14:27The way they're fighting,
14:28it could be about 12 feet.
14:31Now, they don't need much room at all.
14:33Quick left hand inside,
14:39landed from Manfredi.
14:42Manfredi, the aggressor here in the early going
14:44and able to fire his jab so far
14:47right up the middle of Jorge Paez's guard.
14:50Yeah, he should be able to jab all night
14:51and get away with it
14:52because he's taller than Paez.
14:54Manfredi's early offense largely jab left hook.
15:05Jab, jab, left hook.
15:07Paez has fired some wide-swinging punches
15:09from both sides.
15:10There's a right to the body by Manfredi.
15:13Manfredi's showing a lot of patience here.
15:20And Freddie coming up and under with that left hand.
15:22Now lands a short counter left inside.
15:26Misses with the right hand across the top.
15:28Paez trying to fire from the left side.
15:31So far, Paez unable to mount much of an offense
15:34as Manfredi has been dominating the action,
15:37beating his man to the punt.
15:42He's throwing a good left hook
15:43and then an uppercut behind it
15:44because Paez is trying to duck his left hook.
15:48Larry suggested that he felt like
15:50Paez was here to try to put on a good show
15:52and make an impression tonight.
15:55The opposite extreme possibility
15:57is that he's here just to pick up a paycheck.
15:59No, he's not here to pick up a paycheck.
16:01That's for sure already.
16:04What shows you that, Roy?
16:05Well, he's out here trying to land
16:07some big shots on Manfredi.
16:08He's really trying to knock Manfredi out.
16:10That's why I think
16:12that you have to discourage him early
16:14and remind him that he does want to retire soon.
16:19And that's one of the objectives for Manfredi.
16:22Sneaky right hand across the top by Paez.
16:24He lands a counter left.
16:25Manfredi comes back with a left and a right of his own.
16:28Manfredi continues to work the right hand
16:30to the lower body of Paez
16:31and doubling up effectively with the left hook.
16:34Paez landed a short counter left,
16:36frisply inside.
16:37I want you to do this guy.
16:49I want you to use your speed on this guy.
16:51You understand?
16:52And that right uppercutter work on him.
16:54Use your speed.
16:55Don't stand in front of him.
16:56When he starts coming down,
16:57don't let him post right away.
16:58Get that right hand in there, okay?
17:00I want that jab in his face.
17:01You understand?
17:02And you establish something.
17:03Keep them hands up and keep the jab in his face.
17:05When he gets down low...
17:06In Jorge Paez's corner where they speak Spanish,
17:09our interpreter is Hector Garcia.
17:12Don't give him many opportunities.
17:14Stay on top of him.
17:16Go in.
17:17Use your hooks at the lower part
17:20and work in the center.
17:23Don't lose your control.
17:25Move your waist side to side
17:26and avoid getting hit.
17:29Don't stand in front of this guy.
17:30Piaz already has a small bruise
17:46under his right eye.
17:48Probably the result of Manfredi's
17:50diligent work with the left jab
17:52in the first round.
17:53As Manfredi more than doubled
17:56Piaz's punch output.
17:58Piaz threw 32 of them.
17:59Manfredi threw 82.
18:01In round number one,
18:0237 of the 82 punches.
18:04The left jab.
18:08Piaz with a straight left right up the middle.
18:11As Manfredi was working the left to the body.
18:14Keep them up.
18:14Okay.
18:16Referee Mickey Vann
18:17wants Piaz to keep him up.
18:19And Freddie able to fire
18:32the left jab straight down
18:33as Piaz works out of a crouch.
18:35Now Manfredi comes down
18:36to Piaz's level
18:37and goes back to working
18:38that right hand of the body.
18:39Good uppercut inside
18:41by Angel.
18:41Another right hand to the body.
18:50Sets up a left hook up top.
18:53And now Piaz goes to the body himself
18:55with the left hand.
18:56Piaz has been going good
18:57to the body with the left hand.
19:00Dipping down to the left
19:01to sneak it under Manfredi's right elbow.
19:08I like the patience
19:09that I see in Manfredi.
19:10You should never let an older fighter
19:12get you excited.
19:16Manfredi in beating
19:17Wilson Rodriguez
19:18via the decision route
19:19in Atlantic City
19:20earlier this year on HBO
19:21said,
19:22I was cautious
19:22because it was my first appearance
19:24on HBO.
19:25This time I'm going to
19:27let it all out.
19:31And Manfredi is throwing punches
19:32a little bit more freely
19:33here tonight
19:34than he did in the early going
19:35against Wilson Rodriguez.
19:37And now
19:37Jorge Piaz begins to match
19:39and punch for punch.
19:41Piaz is really landing
19:42that left to deliver
19:43real good on Manfredi.
19:47Piaz with a left up and under
19:48and the right over the top
19:49that time.
19:51Combinations from odd angles
19:52by Jorge.
19:54And a right uppercut
19:56lands solidly
19:57for Manfredi.
19:57Good combination
19:59by Manfredi.
20:00Right uppercut
20:01left hook
20:02works really well for him.
20:03High contact fight so far.
20:22For the most part
20:23the two fighters
20:24standing toward the middle
20:24of the ring
20:25and trading shots
20:26at close range.
20:27Very accurate punching
20:29by both fighters
20:29here in round two.
20:30Piaz with the left
20:34of the body
20:35tries the uppercut
20:36just a little bit short.
20:38And Manfredi's
20:38still very patient
20:39working to back
20:41Piaz up
20:41with lefts and rights.
20:42Hey boys.
20:43Just relax.
21:01We start hitting him
21:04in the stomach
21:04and he's
21:05you're going to catch him
21:06coming in.
21:07He's getting weak.
21:10Avoid punches.
21:11Still to come
21:16in the second half
21:17of our
21:18Boxing After Dark
21:19doubleheader.
21:20Philip Holliday
21:20on the left
21:21from South Africa.
21:22Shane Mosley
21:23on the right
21:23from Pomona, California.
21:25Both unbeaten.
21:27Both hungry
21:27for greater public recognition.
21:29Holliday
21:29with 135 pound
21:31world championship
21:32already.
21:32Mosley finally getting
21:33his long awaited
21:35title shot.
21:35Keep them hands up
21:37and stay for legs.
21:38Come on.
21:39What it, what it,
21:40what it,
21:40is goes back
21:54to work
21:55in the left hand
21:55of the body
21:56beginning to seize
21:57some of the initiative
21:58from Manfredi
21:58early in round number three.
22:00Manfredi goes back
22:01to the uppercut
22:02lands two of them
22:03in a row.
22:05Excellent power punch
22:06combinations
22:07in close
22:08by both fighters
22:09and you've got
22:09to love the way
22:10Manfredi sticks
22:11to his knitting
22:12with the uppercut, Roy.
22:13Yes, you do
22:14because he's standing there.
22:15He knows
22:15Payez is ducking
22:16to give him
22:17the high part of the head.
22:18That body shot
22:19hurt Payez.
22:20Payez standing
22:21too still
22:22to take those uppercuts
22:23as Manfredi
22:24shows his
22:24punching accuracy
22:25inside with both
22:27the left
22:27and the right hand.
22:30Oh, good shot
22:31by Manfredi.
22:44Payez trying
22:45with his own uppercut
22:46but a little bit
22:46of a shortened up effort.
22:50Manfredi
22:50conscious of blocking
22:51the body
22:52with both of his elbows
22:53down.
22:53Staying in a tight envelope.
22:55The guy regards himself
22:56as a brawler
22:57and a warrior.
22:58He shows that he knows
22:59how to box in close.
23:00Yes, he is showing
23:01that tonight.
23:05Straight right hand
23:06by Payez.
23:08Manfredi having to reach
23:09with that uppercut.
23:10He should stay in closer
23:11when he throws him.
23:19Right and the left
23:19of the body by Payez.
23:21Good left hook
23:21upstairs by Manfredi.
23:25Both fighters
23:26making a lot of contact
23:27here in round three
23:28but Angel
23:29Manfredi landing
23:30more than
23:31Jorge Payez.
23:33Left hook
23:34lands for Payez.
23:35Manfredi with the
23:36chopping right
23:36over the top
23:37and a double
23:38left uppercut
23:39underneath
23:39and a left
23:41and a right.
23:42Beautiful combinations
23:43by Angel Manfredi.
23:46Manfredi
23:46is dying
23:47to get into
23:48a position
23:48to box some
23:49of the better
23:49known 130
23:50pounders
23:50like Arturo Gatti,
23:52like Gennaro Hernandez,
23:54like perhaps
23:54Azuma Nelson
23:55if Azuma comes
23:56out of retirement.
23:56One thing he's doing
24:00is he's straightening
24:01Payez up
24:02with the uppercuts
24:02and the straight punches.
24:03Then he lands
24:03bigger shots on him.
24:05You have to straighten up
24:06a guy when he's punched
24:07over as far as Payez is.
24:08He's having to take
24:09some leather to do it
24:10but so far
24:10Payez hasn't been able
24:11to hurt Manfredi.
24:13Manfredi a couple of times
24:14has momentarily stunned
24:15Payez
24:15particularly with
24:17the uppercut.
24:18Left hand to the body
24:19by Payez.
24:20He landed a right
24:20up top.
24:21Manfredi countering
24:22with a left
24:22of his own.
24:23They continue
24:24to trade punches
24:25at close range.
24:26Both men landing
24:27accurately.
24:28I tell you,
24:29this is a good fight
24:29for both fighters
24:30mainly because
24:31Payez is getting
24:32exactly what he wants.
24:34Manfredi is working
24:34him.
24:35He's inside
24:35and he's getting
24:36all the body shots
24:37that he wants to land.
24:38You need only
24:38to tell the fighters
24:39they're on boxing
24:40after dark
24:41when they start
24:42to land at will.
24:44Yes they do.
24:51That's why he's
24:51catching you
24:52with that right hand.
24:53You understand?
24:53You're there
24:53right in front of him.
24:55I don't want you
24:55standing in front of him.
24:56Okay?
24:57I want you to give him
24:58a little movement
24:58and stop popping that jab.
25:01Okay?
25:02You gotta let that right hand
25:03go on his chin
25:03not on top of his head.
25:05You understand?
25:05Keep the right elbow in.
25:07Double your jab up.
25:09You had him hurt this round.
25:10But listen,
25:11you gotta work that body
25:12a little more.
25:13Yeah.
25:16That was a punch.
25:20Oh, I'm sorry.
25:25Breathe in.
25:27How do you feel?
25:28I feel okay.
25:30Go to work.
25:33Manfredi working
25:34on the right side
25:36of Paez's face
25:37with his left hand
25:38has drawn blood
25:40from below.
25:41Paez's right eye.
25:45Okay.
25:46In round three
25:46by Punch Stat Computations,
25:49Paez threw 64 punches.
25:50That's a very active round
25:51for El Maromaro.
25:53But,
25:54Angel Manfredi
25:55threw 96 punches
25:56and landed 53 of them.
25:58That's a sensational
25:59high contact round
26:01from Manfredi.
26:02You need only to take
26:09one look at Angel
26:10to see that he's
26:10the black sheep
26:11of the family
26:11with the right side
26:12of his face
26:13totally scarred
26:14from a near-fatal
26:15automobile accident.
26:16The tattoos all over
26:17his back and arms
26:18and shoulders.
26:19He has a brother
26:20who's an architect
26:21and another brother
26:22who's a lawyer.
26:23So Angel says,
26:24well, I think I'll be
26:25a little different.
26:26Just a little.
26:31He has a brother
26:32who is in the Navy
26:33as well.
26:38Papa Manfredi
26:39did okay for himself.
26:40Yeah, and the one
26:42that's an architect
26:42can learn a little bit
26:43from Manfredi
26:43because Manfredi
26:44has built himself
26:45up a good name
26:46here in the sport.
26:47And he's building
26:48an early lead
26:49you'd suspect
26:50on the scorecards
26:51against Jorge Paez
26:52as they continue
26:53to trade shots
26:54at close range
26:54to the delight
26:55of this crowd
26:56in the Mohegan Sun.
26:58And Paez
26:58is taking an awful
27:00lot of punishment
27:00early for a guy
27:01in his 75th pro fight,
27:03Roy.
27:03Yeah, he's taking
27:03too much punishment
27:04in my opinion.
27:08There's now blood
27:09streaming
27:10from the right ear
27:11of Paez.
27:13Vicious left-hand shot
27:14to the body
27:15from Paez.
27:17Counter right-hand
27:17inside lands
27:18pretty well.
27:20Angel Manfredi
27:21firing lefts
27:22and rights
27:22at close range.
27:23Willing to take
27:24punches from Paez
27:25with a chance
27:26to land something
27:26heavier in return.
27:28Come on.
27:28Oh, a cut
27:29from a hit,
27:29but I think...
27:30Come on.
27:31Neither fighter
27:32appears capable
27:33of stunning
27:34the other fighter
27:35with one punch.
27:37And so they feel
27:38comfortable staying
27:39close at close quarters
27:40exchanging.
27:42Although I think
27:42Manfredi can stun
27:43his man with one
27:44or two or three
27:45or three or four.
27:47That straight right
27:47hand hurt Paez
27:48and now Paez
27:49bothered by the blood
27:50coming out of his eye
27:51and Manfredi takes
27:52advantage with a
27:53vicious left hook.
27:54Now we're seeing
27:55what's known as
27:57a paint job
27:58in boxing
27:59as blood pours
28:00from Paez.
28:02It's pouring out
28:02of his eyes.
28:03Huge cut over
28:04the right eye
28:04of Jorge Paez
28:05gushing blood now
28:07and affecting
28:08his vision
28:09as Manfredi
28:10works away.
28:11That cut was
28:11from the head
28:12butt though.
28:17Harold Letterman,
28:18what's the rule
28:18if the fight
28:19is stopped
28:20due to an
28:21accidental butt?
28:22Jim,
28:22if it's stopped
28:23before the sixth round
28:24on a cut
28:25caused by an
28:25accidental head butt,
28:27the fight is
28:27a technical draw
28:28and Angel Manfredi
28:29retains his title.
28:30So it's almost
28:31as if it's a win
28:32for Angel Manfredi
28:32if it's stopped
28:33before the end
28:34of the sixth round.
28:35Once the coach
28:35beyond the sixth round
28:37and a head butt
28:38causes the fight
28:38to be stopped,
28:39they go to the scorecards.
28:41Paez pawing
28:42at his right eye
28:42with the right glove
28:43and then firing
28:44with the left one.
28:45He's showing
28:45no shortage
28:46of courage here
28:47but compromised
28:48now by the flow
28:49of blood.
28:51There may be
28:52some blood
28:52on the outside
28:54of the right eye
28:55of Manfredi
28:56as well
28:56unless that was
28:57a splatter
28:58from Paez.
28:59You're throwing
29:03only one punch
29:04at a time.
29:06You have a lot
29:08of valor.
29:08You're falling behind.
29:10You're standing there
29:11and he's hitting you.
29:13You can do it.
29:14You can do it.
29:16Use the combination.
29:18Just one punch
29:19is all you're looking
29:20for.
29:20You have to use
29:21combination.
29:22When the right hand
29:22goes in the chin,
29:23you're missing it.
29:24You're missing a lot.
29:26Your right hand,
29:27left hand
29:28and use that hook
29:29but you have to
29:31you have to hit
29:31your target.
29:33What's going on?
29:34You are a warrior.
29:35What's going on
29:36with you?
29:40What's going on
29:41with Paez
29:42is that he's
29:4331 years old
29:45going on
29:46who knows what.
29:49He's coming
29:50to the end
29:51of the road
29:52of a really
29:53fabulous career
29:55for the little guy.
29:56his heroes
29:58were Muhammad Ali
29:59and Charlie Chaplin
30:02and he's one
30:03of my heroes
30:04too
30:04for the way
30:05he's giving
30:06an effort
30:06here tonight.
30:07Yeah,
30:07and that cut
30:07isn't a bad
30:08face for Paez.
30:13Good body shot
30:14by Manfredi.
30:15Harold,
30:16your scorecard
30:16through four rounds.
30:17Jim,
30:18four rounds
30:18to nothing.
30:19One to 36.
30:20Angel Manfredi.
30:21He's the much
30:22busier guy.
30:23Those double hooks,
30:23those triple hooks,
30:25those triple left
30:25jibs are really
30:26impressing me.
30:27What I can't
30:28understand is why
30:28Jorge Paez
30:29is standing right
30:30in front of him.
30:31I think that's
30:31the big mistake
30:32in the fight.
30:33Well,
30:33maybe Jorge Paez
30:34at age 31
30:35in his 75th
30:35professional bout
30:36doesn't have the
30:37legs to do anything
30:38but stand in front
30:39of him.
30:39Right,
30:39Roy?
30:39That's about it.
30:41Well,
30:41and he doesn't
30:42want to stand
30:42away because
30:43Manfredi has
30:44the reach on him
30:46and would just
30:46be doing the same
30:48thing with the reach.
30:49He's got to get
30:49close to him
30:50in order to punch.
30:51It's a brave
30:53and willing effort
30:54for Paez
30:55but he's turning
30:55out to be
30:56an extremely
30:58well-chosen
30:58opponent
30:59for young
31:00Angel Manfredi
31:00at this stage
31:01of Manfredi's
31:02career.
31:03108 punches
31:04thrown by Manfredi
31:05in the last round,
31:06round number four.
31:07He's just firing
31:08at will because
31:08the opportunity
31:09is there to do
31:10anything he wants
31:11to do.
31:12He has to take
31:12a little leather
31:13in return from Paez
31:14but Paez hasn't
31:15shown the power
31:16to hurt him.
31:16a hard right hand
31:19over the top
31:20by Paez
31:21and Manfredi
31:21just comes right
31:22back and bangs
31:23to the body.
31:30This appears
31:31to be the classic
31:32case of a young
31:33fighter trying
31:34to add to his
31:35reputation by
31:36fighting an older
31:37fighter who no
31:39longer can fight
31:40the way he did
31:41as a younger
31:42fighter.
31:44That's what it
31:44seems like to me.
31:46Magnificent courage
32:07from Jorge Paez
32:08and Manfredi
32:10has not been able
32:11to get the right eye
32:12to gush with blood
32:13the way it did
32:13in the last round
32:14so Paez
32:15is in a little bit
32:16better shape
32:16with regard
32:17to seeing
32:18the incoming
32:19and having a chance
32:20to block some
32:21on it.
32:21But he's still
32:22getting tattooed
32:23a lot
32:23particularly
32:24by the uppercut.
32:25good body shot by
32:42Manfredi.
32:43This is combination
32:45scoring well for
32:47Angel Manfredi.
32:51Where's the blood
32:52coming from in the air?
32:53Huh?
32:54Where's the blood in the air?
32:55That's just a cut
32:56on the outside.
32:57I saw that one already.
32:57Yeah.
33:00You have to throw
33:00more punches.
33:02You have to throw
33:03more punches.
33:03Let him stay here
33:04so I can work on him.
33:05You're falling behind.
33:08Throw punches.
33:10You're going to start
33:11throwing punches right now.
33:12Are you listening to me?
33:15Throw punches
33:20and use the combinations.
33:28There's the man
33:29you saluted earlier,
33:30Larry.
33:32Juan Manfredi.
33:33So proud of all
33:34four of his sons.
33:35I want a three punch
33:35combination on him.
33:37I want the feet.
33:38Hoping El Diablo
33:38can continue his early
33:40dominance against
33:40Jorge Paez.
33:42Come on.
33:43Get the gun out.
33:44Come on son.
33:45Paez already manages
33:47a few young fighters.
33:49He wants to go into
33:50boxing next or graduate
33:52to being a manager
33:54and trainer.
33:55And as each round
33:57goes by he's getting
33:58closer to that goal.
34:01must have done
34:01a pretty good job
34:02of holding on
34:03to his money.
34:03He lists his home address
34:04as Beverly Hills,
34:05California.
34:09One of the most
34:10likable and intelligent
34:12athletes we've ever
34:13interviewed.
34:19And now the blood
34:23begins to flow again
34:24from Pius' right eye
34:25as Angel Manfredi
34:27has gotten the left
34:28hook going early
34:28here in round number
34:29six.
34:32Jab, jab, jab, jab, jab.
34:35Oh, quick shot by Paez.
34:37Left to the body
34:38and a left uppercut
34:39that landed.
34:45See if Manfredi
34:46goes back to the jab,
34:47jab, jab, jab.
34:47He throws four straight
34:48right hands in a row.
34:52And a quick left hook
34:53that rocked Paez
34:55on his back momentarily.
34:56Roy, do you take
34:57any points away
34:59from Manfredi
35:00who is having his way
35:01obviously
35:02because he hasn't
35:03really been able
35:04to hurt
35:05Paez so far?
35:07No, I don't
35:08because Paez
35:09is a great fighter.
35:09He's not one of these guys
35:10who was noted
35:11for not having
35:12a strong chin.
35:13Paez in his day
35:14was a very tough
35:15competitor.
35:16So you can't take
35:16anything away from
35:17Angel from not finishing
35:18the job yet.
35:20Actually, I think he's
35:20being pretty smart
35:21about what he's doing.
35:22Yeah, why risk anymore
35:23when you're winning
35:24the fight easily
35:25and you have your man
35:26deteriorating
35:27in terms of
35:28blood flow
35:29and cuts and nicks
35:32popping up
35:33all over the place.
35:34He doesn't need
35:35to risk anything else.
35:37Just keep popping.
35:38I'm not talking
35:39about risk.
35:40I'm just talking
35:40about does he really
35:42have power?
35:43Yeah.
35:43He has power.
35:44Paez keeps his head
35:45forward but he keeps
35:46his chin tucked.
35:47So he's not really
35:48hitting Paez on the chin
35:49often with big shots.
35:50He's hitting him
35:51high on the head.
35:52Yeah, good point.
35:53I think you're right.
35:54A lot of forehead shots.
35:55Right.
35:56That's what Paez
35:57has given him
35:57is forehead.
36:02More willing effort
36:03from Paez
36:04who landed
36:04the right uppercut
36:05and lands a straight
36:06right hand
36:07across the top
36:08but seemingly
36:09unable to hurt
36:10Manfredi
36:10and Manfredi
36:11continues to stand
36:12in for the target
36:13practice
36:13against Jorge Paez.
36:15Later in the fight
36:16though, Larry,
36:16these head shots
36:17will start having
36:18an effect on Paez.
36:19Tends to give you
36:20a headache.
36:20Yeah, it makes you
36:22a little weaker too.
36:36Looping right hand
36:37by Manfredi.
36:39And Manfredi
36:39seeming to slow
36:40his own pace
36:41just a little bit
36:42as round six comes
36:43to a close
36:43and sensing that
36:44Paez comes back
36:45with a four-punch
36:46combo of his own
36:47and the two fighters
36:48showing a lot
36:48of sportsmanship
36:49as they continue
36:51a slap gloves
36:52at the end
36:52of the rounds.
36:54Airing this month
36:54on HBO,
36:55a new installment
36:56of Real Sports
36:57with Bryant Gumbel
36:58featuring a profile

37:13Real sports,
37:14the only show
37:14of its kind
37:15and it's only
37:16on HBO.
37:17Here we take
37:27another look
37:29at what is
37:29turning out
37:30to be a kind
37:31of ritual
37:33bloodletting
37:34the younger man
37:36letting the blood
37:38of the older man.
37:40Baez comes out
37:47for the seventh.
37:48No doubt
37:49wondering what
37:49he might conceivably
37:50do to change
37:51the tempo
37:52of the fight.
37:56The only thing
37:57I can think of
37:57now is to put
37:58on his religious
38:00garb and pray.
38:06Doesn't mean
38:07it seems to have
38:07enough power
38:08to hurt
38:08Manfred.
38:10A quick combination
38:20by Manfredi.
38:21And that left uppercut
38:22opened the cut
38:23above Paez's eye
38:24again and now
38:25the blood begins
38:26to flow.
38:27Paez goes back
38:27to flicking
38:28with the right glove
38:29to try to keep
38:29the blood out
38:30of his eye
38:30and Manfredi
38:31will go back
38:32to working
38:32his combinations
38:33and Paez
38:34continues to show
38:35his great heart
38:36and will as he
38:37just hangs in there
38:38takes the punishment
38:39fires away.
38:40You okay?
38:41Yes.
38:41All right.
38:43Box on.
38:44Box on.
38:45Box on,
38:46says Mickey Van.
38:46Yes.
38:47Yes.
38:47Yes.
38:48Yes.
38:48Yes.
38:48Yes.
38:49Yes.
38:49Yes.
38:50Yes.
38:50Yes.
38:50Yes.
38:51Yes.
38:51Yes.
38:52Yes.
38:52In his desire
39:04to stack up
39:06a little bit
39:06more money
39:06for his family,
39:08Jorge Paez
39:08says, Roy,
39:09that he wants
39:10to fight
39:10six more times
39:11over the course
39:11of the next year.
39:12Six more times?
39:14Six more times.
39:15That would take us
39:16to 81 Paez fights.
39:18I hope he doesn't
39:18cut like this
39:19in all of them.
39:20You're not joking.
39:21If he cuts like this
39:22in all of them,
39:22he doesn't get a chance
39:23to fight six more times.
39:24Don't let him.
39:25Get him out.
39:25Come on.
39:26Listen, homie.
39:29Michael Carbajal's
39:30brother told him
39:32immediately after his fight
39:33with baby Jake Metlala
39:34that his eyes
39:35are going to keep
39:35cutting like that
39:36and perhaps he should retire.
39:38And that was
39:39very good advice.
39:42Although I don't think
39:43Michael would take it.
39:44as a fighter gets older,
39:46he starts to cut
39:48more easily.
39:50Skin gets a little thinner.
39:55Carbajal showed
39:56a lot of class
39:57with his tribute
39:57to baby Jake Metlala
39:59in the ring
39:59after the fight.
40:00Yes, he did.
40:01Absolutely.
40:03Those are the type
40:04of people
40:04that boxing needs,
40:05though.
40:07Both fighters here
40:08opening up
40:09and throwing
40:09a lot of punches
40:10in round number seven.
40:11A quick body shot
40:12by Manfredi.
40:14Nothing to change
40:15the momentum
40:16of the bout so far.
40:17This round
40:17very much like
40:18all of its predecessors
40:20as Angel Manfredi
40:21lands,
40:21backs away,
40:22lands,
40:23backs away again
40:24and Paez
40:24just keeps coming forward
40:26and putting himself
40:27in harm's way.
40:32Jets, come on.
40:33You jumped in then, son.
40:35Come on.
40:35Box on.
40:35Come on.
40:41Come on, son.
40:50Get this guy
40:50here with respect.
40:51You understand?
40:52How he's shaking his hand.
40:53Let's get this guy
40:54out of here.
40:55Before he cuts you
40:56or something.
40:57You understand?
40:57He's getting dirty on you.
41:00Forget about shaking
41:01his hand
41:01before two minutes.
41:02I'm getting back.
41:03Let's go.
41:03Let's work on this guy.
41:05You understand?
41:06We love you.
41:07Hey, I'm a combination.
41:08Come back with something.
41:09Right at the end,
41:09come back with a nice punch.
41:10You see, you're throwing
41:11past punches,
41:12come back with a nice punch.
41:12Come back with a nice punch
41:13and get out of there.
41:14The puncher.
41:16How's your shoulders?
41:19So why don't you
41:20throw more punches?
41:24You have to loosen up.
41:25You have to throw more punches.
41:27We're not going to hit.
41:27We're not going to win
41:28this fight with one punch.
41:29You have to throw more punches.
41:31Let's do combinations.
41:33Pull it, man.
41:34Get a regular.
41:35All right.
41:36Vamos, porque?
41:37Vamos.
41:38Okay?
41:39That's what we have.
41:39You heard
41:42in Manfredi's
41:44corner.
41:47No mercy.
41:48Get it over with.
41:50Time out.
41:50The hell with shaking his hand.
41:52That was interesting.
41:56And, of course,
41:57Piaz's corner
41:58wants him to throw more punches.
42:00Easier said than done
42:01when you're getting nailed
42:0270, 80 times around
42:04as Piaz has been.
42:08Harold Letterman,
42:10any change in the outcome
42:11of this fight so far?
42:13None whatsoever, Larry.
42:14I have it a shout-out.
42:1570 to 63.
42:16Hey, Jim,
42:16you've got to work a little bit
42:17on that cockney accent.
42:18You don't have it quite right yet.
42:20But, in any case,
42:21the most important thing
42:22in scoring fights
42:22is between punching Larry
42:23and certainly
42:24Angel Manfredi
42:25is out punching him.
42:26Those double hooks,
42:27the double jerks,
42:28he keeps opening that cut up.
42:29But, I'll tell you something,
42:30Chuck Bodak
42:30in Piaz's corner
42:31is keeping him in this fight
42:32by doing a great job
42:33on the cut.
42:34Well, Harold, lately...
42:36Oh.
42:37Great left hook.
42:40Just a sensational
42:42short left hook
42:43in close.
42:44Six.
42:45Seven.
42:46Does Piaz want to get up
42:47and go on?
42:48Nine.
42:49Yes, he does.
42:49I don't think so.
42:51And Mickey Vann
42:52says no more
42:53as Angel Manfredi
42:55scores a sensational
42:57eighth-round knockout.
42:59Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
43:02He chucked him down
43:04and finished him.
43:07Finished him.
43:10You heard Sam Colonna
43:12in Manfredi's corner saying
43:13enough of the shaking hands
43:16with the guy.
43:17Go finish him.
43:18And Manfredi
43:19followed orders.
43:30I'll tell you what,
43:32I doubt he got any closer
43:33to a fight
43:34with Arturo Gatti
43:35or Gennaro Hernandez
43:36off of that effort.
43:37He might have looked too good.
43:38He might have.
43:40I don't think
43:42a guy can look too good
43:43for Arturo Gatti.
43:47Well, that would be
43:48a fight to see.
43:49No question about it.
43:50Too easy.
43:55All right, let's take a look
43:58now at two versions
44:00of the knockdown
44:01and you're going to see
44:02a perfectly thrown
44:03left hook
44:04that lands flush.
44:09That one, I think,
44:10was right on the temple, Roy.
44:11Right on the temple.
44:14No, actually,
44:15it was right behind the ear.
44:16Oh, that's right.
44:19Behind the ear,
44:20on the skull,
44:21on the back of the neck.
44:22Well, it was a new place
44:25to land, I guess,
44:26and that's where he finally
44:27got Mauro Mero,
44:29Jorge Paez.
44:35And Father Juan Manfredi
44:37in the corner
44:37to congratulate his son.
44:39Let's go to Mark Biro
44:39with the official particulars
44:41on the knockout.
44:41Ladies and gentlemen,
44:43the time,
44:45one minute,
44:46six seconds
44:47of the eighth round,
44:48the winner
44:49by knockout
44:50and still
44:51WBU's
44:52super featherweight
44:53champion of the world,
44:55Angel
44:56El Diablo
44:58Manfredi.
45:00Manfredi.
45:01You shouldn't bet
45:02against Godwin, baby.
45:03You shouldn't bet
45:04against the Lord.
45:04You can't bet
45:05against me, baby,
45:06and you lose.
45:07You can't bet
45:07no money against me.
45:09I approve to you.
45:10Gary and I approve to you.
45:11I'm the best 130-pounder.
45:12Bring on Gotti, baby.
45:14Bring on Gotti.
45:15I love him.
45:16That's who he wants.
45:17Arturo Gotti,
45:18130-pound star.
45:20Final punch stat numbers
45:22in the bout,
45:23and you'll see that
45:23Angel Manfredi,
45:25who threw
45:25more than 100 punches
45:27in five consecutive rounds,
45:29wound up throwing
45:30744 of them
45:31in the bout
45:32and landing
45:32an exceptionally high
45:3453%.
45:35He was taking
45:36a lot of leather
45:36in return
45:37as Pies was able
45:38to land 170
45:39out of 386,
45:40but Pies's punches
45:41not doing much damage
45:43to Manfredi.
45:45And now let's go
45:46to Larry Merchant
45:46with the winner.
45:48All right, Angel,
45:49congratulations.
45:50It looked as though
45:51that the punch
45:52that put him down
45:53looked like it just
45:54grazed his shoulder.
45:55It was just
45:55an accumulation of punches?
45:57It was a solid punch,
45:58but before I answer
45:59your question,
45:59I'd like to say
46:00I'd like to thank the Lord.
46:01East Chicago,
46:01Gary and I did it, baby.
46:03I told you I wasn't
46:03going to let you down.
46:04Yeah, it was a nice punch.
46:05You caught him right
46:06on the tip of the chin.
46:07Real nice
46:07with a nice cut left hook.
46:09I knew I was
46:10going to catch him
46:10with it.
46:11Were you just determined
46:12to take your time,
46:14chop him down,
46:14and take the knockout
46:15as it came?
46:16Like I said,
46:17I'm very experienced.
46:18I took my time,
46:19and I knew the knockout
46:20was going to come,
46:21but with an experienced
46:22fighter,
46:23you just can't go out there
46:23and try to bang with him.
46:24You've got to take your time,
46:25and you've got to pick him.
46:26Pick him apart.
46:26All right,
46:27you talk about Arturo Gaddy.
46:29You seem consumed
46:30by that idea
46:32of fighting Gaddy.
46:33Why?
46:33Well, basically,
46:34you know,
46:35he's a young champion.
46:36He's a good fighter,
46:36good champion.
46:37I respect him
46:38outside the ring,
46:39but, you know,
46:40I'm a young champion.
46:41Let's us two young champions
46:43bump heads,
46:44and let's see
46:45who's the best
46:45at 130 pounds,
46:46because I feel
46:47it's me and Gaddy,
46:48and that's the only fight
46:49that'll make me happy.
46:50It's my dream fight.
46:51Thank you very much.
46:52God bless you.
46:53Good show.
46:54All right.
46:55Jorge.
46:56Jorge.
46:57Thank you for making
47:00such a spirited effort.
47:11I'm a warrior in the ring.
47:14You are a warrior,
47:15but you told us yesterday
47:17that you had boxing
47:19up to here,
47:20and you're ready
47:21to retire.
47:22Will you continue
47:23to fight?
47:24You said you were
47:25a warrior in the
47:27quadrilateral,
47:28but you said you
47:29had boxing up to your head.
47:31Do you think
47:32you're going to retire?
47:35I think so.
47:38I think so.
47:38I think so.
47:38What happens is
47:39what I'm talking
47:40about with my
47:42privileged
47:43Mr. Dean Gerson
47:45and Mr. Del Toro,
47:48that I'm tired
47:48of being coming
47:49from Los Angeles
47:50I've been talking
47:54to my manager
47:56and, you know,
47:57it's very tiring
47:58to come all the way
47:59from Los Angeles
48:00just one week
48:00before the fight.
48:01And I went back
48:03and then came back
48:05to Connecticut again.
48:07That's very tiring.
48:09It seems, though,
48:12you've had a great career.
48:13Are you fooling yourself
48:14to think
48:15that you can beat
48:16good young fighters?
48:18you've had a great career
48:20in your life.
48:21Do you think you can
48:23continue to fight
48:23with the young people
48:24with the young people?
48:25Well, naturally, I can keep
48:31beating these young guys,
48:32but today was not my night.
48:34We all have bad nights.
48:37Thank you very much.
48:39Good night.
48:41Jim?
48:42All right.
48:42Thanks a lot, Larry.
48:43I hope he doesn't fight
48:44six more times
48:45if he's going to get hit
48:45like that.
48:46On the other hand,
48:47maybe he won't have opponents
48:48as tough as Angel Manfredi.
48:50Here's my take, Roy,
48:51on Manfredi
48:52and Arturo Gotti.
48:53It looks to me
48:54that Manfredi
48:55is probably the quicker
48:56of the two
48:56and throws more punches
48:57from more angles.
48:59Gotti definitely
48:59in the more classic style,
49:01probably the harder puncher.
49:02What do you think?
49:03I think Gotti is
49:04the harder puncher,
49:05and I think he has
49:06the more classic style.
49:08I think it'll be
49:08a great fight,
49:10but I'm not sure
49:11if Manfredi can withstand
49:12the power shots
49:13from Arturo Gotti yet.
49:15All right.
49:15Well, maybe we'll get
49:16a chance to see that
49:17if the Gotti folks
49:17are listening
49:18and pay attention
49:19to Manfredi's
49:20overwhelming desire
49:21to fight him.
49:22In the meantime,
49:23another man
49:23with an overwhelming desire
49:25is Roy Jones,
49:26and that's his desire
49:27to get back
49:28the 175-pound
49:29world championship
49:30that he lost
49:31earlier this year
49:32to Montel Griffin
49:33in a fight
49:34which had an unusual ending
49:35in Atlantic City,
49:36New Jersey.
49:37If you were watching
49:38with us on March 21,
49:39you know that after
49:40eight difficult
49:41and fairly even rounds,
49:42Roy Jones,
49:43ahead on two scorecards,
49:44got his man Griffin
49:45into trouble
49:46in the ninth round.
49:47And then as he chased
49:48Griffin around the ring
49:49and as referee Tony Perez
49:50looked on,
49:51Griffin went to one knee.
49:52You saw Roy Jones
49:53land the right
49:54and left hand
49:55that followed Griffin's
49:56having put his knee
49:57on the canvas.
49:58Eventually,
49:59Jones was disqualified.
50:01Griffin remained
50:01unbeaten
50:02and took over
50:03that 175-pound
50:04world championship.
50:06The rematch
50:06is coming Thursday night
50:08live on pay-per-view,
50:10and I have to assume
50:11that you've never wanted
50:12anything more in your life.
50:13Never have,
50:14because I hate to see
50:14a guy go out
50:15like a coward
50:16and go around
50:17and talk and say
50:17so many different
50:18and unpositive things
50:19about a guy
50:20who has been really
50:21trying to do all he could
50:22to help the sport.
50:23I wasn't forced
50:23to fight him.
50:24I was giving him a shot
50:25because I thought
50:25he was pretty deserving
50:26of a shot.
50:27Now I have to go in
50:27and treat him
50:28like the kid he is
50:29and let the world see
50:30that I am still
50:31the man that I am
50:32and have to go in
50:33and do my business.
50:34Now I'm going to try
50:34to do it in a sensible way
50:36and a respectful way
50:37in the best way
50:37that I can,
50:38but if it gets ugly,
50:39it gets ugly,
50:39and I still got to do my job
50:40because I'm not coming
50:41out of there
50:42without my title.
50:43Well, Roy,
50:43to be honest,
50:44in the first seven rounds
50:45of that fight,
50:46he proved he was
50:47deserving of the shot.
50:48I think he gave you,
50:49stylistically,
50:50more trouble
50:51than any opponent
50:52you've ever faced.
50:53Well, quite naturally,
50:53when two counterpunches
50:54face one another,
50:55it's going to be
50:55a difficult fight
50:56for both fighters.
50:57That's just all
50:57a part of the game.
50:59However,
50:59when you have your guys
51:00figured out as I did,
51:02I knew that
51:02if we went out there
51:04for seven or eight
51:04good rounds,
51:05then put the pressure on,
51:06turn the heater up,
51:07like I said,
51:08when y'all asked me
51:09questions when he faced
51:10James Toney last time,
51:12I told you,
51:12James Toney should have
51:12picked up the pressure
51:13on him.
51:13He didn't.
51:14I went right out there,
51:15did the same thing,
51:16picked up the pressure
51:16and put him out of there,
51:17actually,
51:18and they gave him
51:18a belt anyway.
51:19But, you know,
51:19if they can give a guy
51:20a belt that way,
51:21that's what encourages
51:22guys like Seldom
51:23to go in and lay down
51:24when Tyson missed
51:25him with a punch.
51:26That's what encourages
51:26guys like Akin 1
51:27to go in and hold
51:28rather than get hit.
51:30They go in
51:30and they don't even
51:31try to win.
51:32How are you going
51:32to go take the title
51:33from the world's best
51:34boxer pound for pound
51:35on the planet
51:36because he didn't hear
51:37the referee say anything.
51:38If the referee
51:39don't come down
51:39to stop it,
51:40it's not my job
51:41to do that.
51:41So, in football,
51:42if you catch a pass
51:43and step out of bounds,
51:44you're not going to
51:44stop to see that
51:45you step out of bounds.
51:46You keep him going.
51:47The referee has
51:47to make that call.
51:48In my opinion,
51:49they should have
51:49made the call.
51:50If he didn't,
51:50I'll make it this time.
51:52Next Thursday night,
51:53live on Pay-Per-View,
51:549 o'clock Eastern time.
51:56It takes place here
51:57in rural Connecticut
51:59at another one
52:00of the local casinos,
52:01Montel Griffin
52:02against Roy Jones
52:03for the second time.
52:06And now let's look
52:07ahead to the...
52:07I'll be right back.
