00:00A teenage girl has been detained for 15 years for attempting to murder two teachers and a fellow
00:08pupil at a school in South Wales. The attack took place at Asgol Dufrin Amman in Ammanford,
00:12Carmarthenshire, almost exactly a year ago on April 24th, 2024. Armed with her father's
00:18multi-tooled, the then 13-year-old targeted teacher Fiona Elias during a morning break,
00:23stabbing her without warning. She then injured another teacher, Liz Hopkins, who intervened
00:27to protect her colleague before turning the knife on a fellow pupil. All three victims survived but
00:32were left with physical injuries, with teacher Liz Hopkins being airlifted to hospital in Cardiff
00:37after being stabbed in the neck. During sentencing at Swansea Crown Court, the judge said the teenager
00:44had shown little genuine remorse despite her claim she felt guilty over the incident. She described
00:49the attack as planned and deliberate, carried out during break time, which he believed was a bid for
00:54maximum attention. The court heard how the girl had spoken to friends beforehand about doing
01:00something stupid that could get her expelled. She also made disturbing comments after her arrest,
01:04including, I stabbed her, oopsies, and that's one way to become a celebrity. Victim impact statements
01:11from both teachers revealed the long-lasting trauma caused by the attack, with Fiona Elias said that
01:16while her attacker's name and face are protected, her own story will never be forgotten, describing herself
01:21as the victim of an attempted murder in her own workplace. The teenager, who cannot be named
01:27for legal reasons, had pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and carrying a knife, but denied
01:32attempted murder, which a jury found her guilty of earlier this year. She will serve half of her
01:3715-year sentence in detention, with the rest on licence. James Beach Watkins, reporting for Local TV.
