00:01The Story of Easter
00:03This is Jesus, who is the Son of God and the Savior of the world.
00:14While Jesus was on earth, he taught everyone about God's love and healed people from their sickness.
00:21He did many miracles, like calming storms, and even raised people from the dead.
00:34Jesus and his disciples stopped in a town, and Jesus told two of his disciples to go on ahead of them.
00:42He told them to go into a village, and that they would see a young donkey that no one had ever ridden.
00:52He told them to untie it and bring it to him.
00:58If anyone asks, what are you doing?
01:01He told them to just say, the Lord needs it, and will return it soon.
01:05So the disciples did what Jesus said, and brought him the donkey.
01:13A long time ago, before Jesus was even born, God had said that the Savior, the King of Israel, would come to Israel in this way.
01:22And now Jesus was doing just as God had said.
01:27The news that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem swept through the city.
01:31Many heard about all the amazing things he had done.
01:34So they cut palm branches and ran to see him.
01:39The Pharisees and religious rulers realized that there was nothing they could do, for everyone was going to see Jesus.
01:48Jesus rode into the city of Jerusalem, and the crowd spread their coats on the road ahead of him.
01:54His followers began to shout and sing as they walked along, praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had seen.
02:02The Pharisees were upset, and they told Jesus to stop the people from saying things like that.
02:10But Jesus said, if they keep quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers.
02:17So the people kept on singing,
02:19The entire city of Jerusalem was in an uproar as he entered, asking,
02:32Who is this?
02:33And the crowds replied,
02:34It's Jesus.
02:36And Jesus rode the donkey through the street of Jerusalem to the temple in a triumphal entry,
02:43just as God said he would many years before.
02:46The Jewish leaders and teachers did not like what Jesus was doing or how he claimed to be the son of God.
02:58And so they made a plan to arrest him to get rid of him once and for all.
03:04Judas, one of Jesus' disciples, agreed to betray Jesus.
03:09Come in, come in.
03:11And give him over to the religious leaders for some money.
03:16At this time, the Jewish people were celebrating a festival called Passover
03:20that had been celebrated since the time of Moses,
03:23when God brought his people out of Egypt.
03:27So Jesus was going to Jerusalem to celebrate.
03:31The disciples asked Jesus where he wanted to eat the Passover meal that night.
03:36Jesus said,
03:39As you go into the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you.
03:44Hello.
03:45Follow him.
03:48At the house he enters, say to the owner,
03:51Uh, hi.
03:53The teacher asks,
03:55Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?
03:59He will take you upstairs to a large room that is already set up.
04:07That is where you should prepare our meal.
04:09The disciples found everything to be just as Jesus had said.
04:16Later that evening, Jesus arrived with the 12 disciples.
04:20They sat down to eat, and Jesus said that he was happy to be with everyone.
04:25Jesus got up from the table, took off his robe, and began to wash his disciples' feet.
04:32Jesus loved his disciples, and he knew the time was coming for him to leave them and return to heaven.
04:42When Jesus came to Peter, he said,
04:45Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait!
04:46Are you going to wash my feet?
04:49Jesus said,
04:50You don't understand what I am doing now, but someday you will.
04:55No!
04:57Peter said,
04:58You will never wash my feet.
05:00But Jesus then told him that unless he washed his feet, he would not belong to him.
05:06Oh, well then, okay!
05:08Then Peter said,
05:10Then wash my hands and head as well, not just my feet.
05:14But Jesus told him that was not necessary.
05:18He just needed to wash his feet for Peter to become clean.
05:25So Jesus finished washing their feet,
05:28and said that the disciples should do to others as he had done for them.
05:33He told them to follow the example that he had set for them,
05:37to serve each other and not think of themselves as greater than any other.
05:42Then God would bless them for doing as Jesus had taught them to do.
05:48As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it.
05:52He said,
05:53Take it, for this is my body, which is given for you.
05:57Jesus told them to do this, to help remember him.
06:03Then he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it.
06:07And he said to his disciples,
06:10This is my blood.
06:12It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.
06:16Jesus said,
06:18One of you eating with me here will betray me.
06:21He told them that things were supposed to happen this way,
06:24but that great sadness would await the one who betrays him.
06:29The disciples were very upset and asked,
06:31Am I the one?
06:33Who is he talking about?
06:34Judas asked Jesus,
06:37Am I the one?
06:39And Jesus said,
06:41You have said it.
06:47One of the disciples asked Jesus,
06:50Lord, who is it?
06:51Jesus said it was the one who he would give the bread to.
06:56He gave the bread to Judas.
06:59And Jesus said,
07:00Hurry and do what you're going to do.
07:02None of the others at the table knew what Jesus meant.
07:06So Judas left at once to betray Jesus.
07:09Then Jesus comforted and encouraged the disciples.
07:13He promised them that they would have a helper come when Jesus was gone.
07:17They all sang a song to God together.
07:21Jesus knew the time had come for him to die,
07:24as the scriptures had said long ago.
07:27So he went with his disciples to an olive grove called Gethsemane.
07:33And Jesus said,
07:34Sit here while I go to pray.
07:37He took Peter, James, and John with him,
07:40and he was very distressed and troubled.
07:43He asked them to stay with him and keep watch,
07:46meaning he wanted them to stay awake with him.
07:50He went a little farther on and prayed.
07:54He cried out,
07:56Abba, Father, everything is possible for you.
08:00Please take this cup of suffering away from me.
08:04Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.
08:08Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened Jesus.
08:13Then Jesus prayed even harder and was suffering greatly.
08:17He went back to his disciples and they were all asleep.
08:23He said to Peter,
08:25Couldn't you watch with me even one hour?
08:28Keep watch and pray so that you will not give in to temptation.
08:33And then Jesus left them again to pray,
08:36the same as he did before.
08:39He went back to the disciples after he had prayed
08:42and found them sleeping again.
08:44The disciples didn't know what to say.
08:50So Jesus went away a third time,
08:53praying the same things again.
08:56When he went back to his disciples,
08:58he said,
08:59Go ahead and sleep.
09:01But look,
09:02the time has come.
09:04For Judas,
09:05the disciple who was betraying Jesus,
09:07was coming with men to arrest Jesus.
09:10Judas showed them who Jesus was.
09:13Jesus was arrested and taken to the rulers of the land
09:18so that they could decide what to do with him.
09:21Jesus was presented before the high council
09:24and they asked him if he was the Messiah,
09:27the savior of the Jews.
09:28They asked him if he was claiming to be the son of God.
09:33You say that I am.
09:34And the council was furious
09:38and they shouted that Jesus was guilty
09:41and he deserves to die.
09:46So they took Jesus before the Roman ruler Pilate
09:50and he heard the case against Jesus.
09:54Pilate didn't think that Jesus had done anything wrong.
09:57Huh, seems okay to me.
09:59They found him to be innocent.
10:01So Pilate said that he would punish Jesus
10:04and then release him.
10:06Where's the name of Jesus?
10:07Where's the name of Jesus?
10:07Huh, what?
10:08But the crowd kept screaming louder and louder,
10:11Crucify him!
10:13We want him dead!
10:14And because of the pressure of the crowd,
10:16Pilate turned Jesus over to the Roman soldiers
10:19to be crucified.
10:20Jesus was hurt and spit on.
10:29His clothes were torn and taken from him
10:32and a crown made out of thorns was put on his head.
10:36He was beaten so badly
10:38that he could barely stand on his own
10:41and then he was forced to carry his cross
10:45so far up a mountain that he needed help
10:48because he could not do it on his own.
10:50Once Jesus made it to the place
10:57where he would be crucified,
10:59called the Skull,
11:01the soldiers around him nailed him to the cross
11:03and waited for him to die.
11:06While Jesus was hanging on the cross,
11:09many people shouted to him,
11:11If you really are the Son of God,
11:13save yourself from the cross.
11:15But Jesus knew he had to die
11:18to forgive his people for their sins.
11:22At noon,
11:23darkness fell across the whole land.
11:26Three hours later,
11:28Jesus took his last breath
11:30and finally died.
11:33At that very moment,
11:35the curtain in the temple
11:37that separated the priests
11:38from God's holy place
11:40tore in tomb.
11:43A soldier watching the whole thing said,
11:47This man truly was the Son of God.
11:52Then a righteous man named Joseph
11:55came and placed Jesus' body in a tomb.
11:58Three days passed
12:00and it seemed that there was no hope.
12:06But very early on Sunday morning,
12:08the woman who cared for Jesus
12:10went to go visit his body
12:12and found that his tomb was empty
12:14and that he was no longer there.
12:16Don't be afraid,
12:21said an angel.
12:23He is not here.
12:24He is risen.
12:26At this,
12:27the woman remembered
12:28that Jesus had told them
12:29that he would rise again
12:31on the third day
12:32and ran to go tell the disciples
12:36what they had seen and heard.
12:40Jesus appeared to his disciples
12:42to show them that he was alive.
12:44That same day,
12:47two of Jesus' followers
12:48were walking to a village
12:50called Emmaus
12:51and talking about everything
12:52that had happened with Jesus.
12:55As they were talking,
12:56Jesus suddenly came
12:57and walked with them.
12:59Oh, hello.
13:00But God kept them
13:01from recognizing Jesus.
13:04Jesus asked them
13:05what they were talking about.
13:07The two men were very sad.
13:09One of them,
13:09whose name was Cleopas,
13:11said,
13:12You must be the only person
13:13in Jerusalem
13:14who hasn't heard
13:15about all the things
13:16that have happened there
13:18in the last few days.
13:20Jesus asked,
13:22What things?
13:23The men replied,
13:25The things that happened to Jesus.
13:27And they began to tell Jesus
13:28about everything
13:29that had happened to him.
13:31They told him
13:32that some women
13:33had gone to his tomb
13:34and said that his body was missing
13:36and that others had gone
13:37to see if it was true
13:39and saw that his body
13:40really was gone.
13:41Then Jesus said to them,
13:44You foolish people,
13:45you find it so hard
13:47to believe all
13:48that the prophets
13:49wrote in the scriptures.
13:51Let me explain.
13:52Then Jesus took them
13:53through the writings of Moses
13:55and all the prophets,
13:57explaining from all the scriptures
13:59the things concerning himself.
14:01By this time,
14:02they were nearing Emmaus.
14:04Jesus acted as if he was continuing on.
14:07Hey, wait!
14:07But the men begged him
14:09to stay the night with them
14:10because it was getting late.
14:11Come with us!
14:12Oh, okay.
14:13So Jesus went home with them
14:15and as they sat down to eat,
14:17Jesus blessed the bread.
14:19Then he broke the bread
14:20and gave it to them.
14:22Suddenly their eyes were open
14:24and they recognized Jesus.
14:26It's you!
14:27And at that moment,
14:29he disappeared.
14:30Where'd he go?
14:31The men said to each other,
14:33Didn't our hearts burn within us
14:35as he explained the scriptures to us?
14:38Come on!
14:39And that hour,
14:40they made their way back to Jerusalem.
14:43They found the eleven
14:44and the others who were with them
14:45and told them their story.
14:49As they were telling their story,
14:51Jesus was suddenly standing among them.
14:53Well, that's how it happened.
14:55Yep.
14:55Ah!
14:56Everyone was frightened
14:58and thought he was a ghost.
15:00Okay, come on, guys.
15:02But Jesus showed that it was really him.
15:05He showed them his hands and feet
15:07and they all watched him in awe.
15:09Then Jesus asked for something to eat.
15:12Oh, got anything to eat?
15:13And they gave him fish to eat.
15:16Oh, that's good.
15:18Jesus reminded them
15:19that everything happened
15:20as it was supposed to
15:22and helped them understand the scriptures.
15:25Then he promised to send them the Holy Spirit
15:28and told them to stay in Jerusalem
15:30until the Holy Spirit would come
15:33and fill them with the power from heaven.
15:37One of the twelve disciples, Thomas,
15:40was not with the others when Jesus came.
15:43Hey! Hey, Thomas!
15:44Later, the disciples told Thomas,
15:47We have seen the Lord.
15:48But Thomas said,
15:50I won't believe it
15:51unless I see the nail wounds in his hands.
15:54Put my fingers into them
15:55and place my hand into the wound in his side.
16:03Eight days later,
16:04the disciples were together again.
16:06And this time, Thomas was with them.
16:09The doors were locked.
16:10But suddenly,
16:11as before,
16:12Jesus was standing among them.
16:14Oh, hey, guys!
16:15Peace be with you, he said.
16:17Then Jesus said to Thomas,
16:19Put your finger here
16:20and look at my hands.
16:23Put your hand into the wound in my side.
16:26Don't be faithless any longer.
16:29Believe.
16:30Thomas said,
16:32My Lord and my God!
16:34Then Jesus told him,
16:36You believe because you have seen me.
16:39Blessed are those who believe without seeing.
16:42After Jesus had spent 40 days with the disciples
16:48and appeared to many people,
16:50he led the disciples to a place called Bethany.
16:53Jesus blessed the disciples
16:54and told them to go out
16:56and tell the whole world about him
16:58and the good news of forgiveness
17:00and make disciples of them.
17:02Then he said,
17:04Be sure of this,
17:05I am with you always,
17:07even to the end of the age.
17:09Then Jesus was taken into heaven
17:11to sit at the right hand of God.
17:20Not long after that,
17:22the Holy Spirit did come to the disciples
17:25to be their helper.
17:27The disciples knew that God
17:28would truly be with them always.
17:31And the Holy Spirit is still with us today
17:34for Jesus promised
17:35that he would be with us
17:37to the end of the age
17:38and he is.
17:41For you in the world who traveled as a night
17:43till the end of the natural war
17:44to be with them.
17:46And the Holy Spirit
17:47versa than Jesus Christ
17:47The Holy Spirit
17:48The Holy Spirit
17:49The Holy Spirit
17:50For you who is ongers
