Cebu governor defies suspension order

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said in a press conference on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 that she will not step down despite a preventive suspension order from the Office of the Ombudsman.

She said she has written a clarificatory letter to DILG Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla, questioning the legality of the order.

Her legal counsel, Alex Avisado, said Garcia is well within her rights to stay in office and is simply exercising legal remedies available under the law.

Garcia questioned the timing of the order, issued just days before the May 2025 elections.
