A container of coconuts concealing 500Kg of cocaine was intercepted by customs at Tilbury docks. It was the largest seizure of cocaine ever in the UK.
Transcript
00:00The container had left Guyana weeks earlier, packed with 300 sacks of coconuts, and hidden
00:26amongst them was 500 kilograms of cocaine.
00:30Its destination was London's Spitalfields Market.
00:33With tons of fruit and veg arriving every day, it's a smuggler's dream.
00:38My job was to bottle one of the vans or the lorries to wherever it was going.
00:44Basically, bottling is to follow a vehicle, to stop the police from getting in between
00:49that vehicle he knew, just following the bumper, that's it.
00:52Business as usual, just protecting what I had to protect.
00:56Took my usual route, drove down through Hackney, hit the motorway, jumped off at the exit of
01:01Spittalfields Market, pulled into the lay-boy, switched the engine off, sat here and waited
01:09as usual.
01:10Within a second of pulling up, switching the engine off, stopping, a silver bolts out of
01:18the bull, pulled straight across the front of me, a fella came jumping out, had a metal
01:22bar.
01:23The gist came straight to the car, jumped straight in the body, started smashing the windscreen.
01:26All he could hear was, fucking, fucking, fucking, fucking.
01:28I thought it was another firm coming to nick the snag, do you know what I mean?
01:33Because that was first impressions, that's how it had been done.
01:37It wasn't a rival firm.
01:39Andrew was being arrested by customs and excise.
01:43His fiancée, Amber, is standing by her man.
01:46He is an old, romantic, sweet twerp.
01:47It's very difficult to say something nice about Andrew at this particular moment of
01:48time, because I just want to kill him.
01:49No, he is a romantic.
01:50He's very sweet, he's sweet, he's gorgeous.
01:51Except when he's sitting behind a truckload of garbage.
02:08This is the inside story of a smuggler, his girlfriend and their fight for freedom.
02:13Customs officers say they've seized over half a ton of cocaine in a shipment of coconuts
02:22from Guyana.
02:23Six men were arrested in the operation in East London last night.
02:26The drugs have a street value of a hundred million pounds.
02:31Customs claim that Andrew's arrest was the result of months of international undercover
02:35and surveillance work, code-named Operation Cyprus.
02:40They had tracked the container for months through the Caribbean, monitoring all those they thought
02:44were involved in the smuggling operation.
02:49In London, they were on to Andrew Pritchard and his associates, trying to anticipate when
02:54they would move.
02:56That December night, when the container arrived, Customs opened it.
03:00Hidden amongst the coconuts, they found a massive 500 kilograms of cocaine.
03:05The largest ever seizure on British soil.
03:09The Customs elite unit set a trap.
03:12They secretly swapped the drugs with blocks of wood and allowed the container to proceed
03:16to Spitalfields.
03:19When Andrew came to meet the consignment, Customs made their move.
03:23He was caught red-handed, just outside the market.
03:26It seemed this was a cut-and-dry case.
03:30His girlfriend Amber was on a night out with friends when she heard the news.
03:35I called Andrew to find out if he was quite drunk, so I wanted to know if he could pick
03:38me up.
03:39But he didn't answer his phone.
03:41So I left it.
03:42And I then got a call from his sister saying, there's Customs and Excise in the house.
03:47And I went, what?
03:48And she said, there's Customs and Excise.
03:50So then I got a bit panicking.
03:51I was thinking, Customs and Excise?
03:52Why the fuck would they be around my house?
03:55And I started thinking taxes.
03:57And then I started thinking drugs.
04:01And I spoke to Andrew's solicitor and I said, look, give me worst-case scenario.
04:05And he said, well, the allegation is importation of 500 and whatever it was at the time, 500
04:10plus because...
04:11And I said, you what?
04:12And I said, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
04:14I said, that's been a mistake.
04:15And he said, Amber, that is the charge.
04:16And I said, so what's he looking at?
04:18And he said, 35 years.
04:22You know, Andrew's 40.
04:25You know, sick, ah, I can't even, it's too painful to even, I can't comprehend it.
04:32And I have to get my head around the worst-case scenario.
04:35I've got this great T-shirt here that someone bought me for my birthday.
04:39But I don't think it's appropriate to wear.
04:41It's got seas from crackle.
04:44And I thought it was quite funny, but no, I won't be wearing it to court.
04:48Amber, a West End girl with a career in PR, got engaged to East End wide boy Andrew in 2002
04:55after a whirlwind romance.
04:57This was myself and Andrew in Venezuela.
05:01Andrew getting a tan in Jamaica.
05:04This was in Jamaica, sandals.
05:06And Andrew took me the little gift.
05:09Their wedding plans were ruined after Andrew's arrest.
05:12I thought I had more pictures of Andrew.
05:14Oh, you know what? I did have more pictures of Andrew.
05:16Sorry, I've just realised. Customs took them.
05:19Andrew is being held in Wandsworth prison.
05:21He has spent the past 17 months perfecting his case
05:24and has decided on a bold and potentially risky defence.
05:28Hands up, I'm a smuggler.
05:30You know, I'm not going to terror and say I'm not.
05:32I'm a villain.
05:33I smuggle containers.
05:34That's what I do.
05:35I'm not a drug smuggler.
05:37Mobiles are banned in prison, but Andrew has acquired one
05:41and he uses it to make illegal calls from inside.
05:44From the beginning, it was always about smuggling cigars.
05:48The prosecution said you were a mastermind, the fixer.
05:52Prosecutions say I was going to be taking my cocaine.
05:56According to them, to have it pressed, to double the amount of it.
06:00And yeah, they say not only did I organise it,
06:02they said they were also responsible for distributing it as well.
06:06A lot for my master, isn't it?
06:09Andrew is no stranger to running complex operations.
06:26He made his name in the music industry,
06:28promoting A-list artists and staging major music events.
06:32The Sun Splash Festival attracted over 50,000 revellers.
06:36Welcome, baby. How you doing?
06:39Always wanted to meet one of the spices, you know?
06:42Andy had a lot of money.
06:43The vision what he had was, let's do Sun Splash.
06:46He wasn't thinking about the cost.
06:48He had a bit of longer.
06:50We led very much a hip hop video lifestyle.
06:53We were earning hundreds of thousands of pounds.
06:55The first time you earn a big amount of money,
06:57you go out and do the whole bling bling thing.
07:06He lives large, he doesn't do things by half.
07:10He lives in style, he does everything in style.
07:13He would always do it, the bigger the better.
07:16Andrew was always, you know, a wide boy.
07:193,000 pound suits, 100 grand cars, you know, 50 grand watches.
07:23Once he was used to having a certain amount of money,
07:25you know, to go from earning hundreds of thousands of pounds in a month
07:29to earning 30 grand in a year,
07:32was obviously not the direction Andrew was going to go in.
07:34He wants to be Puff Daddy.
07:37Andrew's lavish lifestyle made him a prime suspect,
07:40but customs needed evidence.
07:42They froze his acids and seized all his belongings,
07:45including his yacht.
07:47But which one is it?
07:48This little one.
07:50This one?
07:51This is it. Firefly.
07:52This is it. Firefly.
07:54This is basically the boat that customs actually tried.
07:57They gave a picture of that in court
07:59and they obviously took it at a certain angle,
08:01so it was an elongated shot.
08:02So it looked like it was this 60-foot yacht.
08:04And actually, this is it.
08:06It's tiny.
08:08It's not exactly Pablo Escobar's yacht,
08:10but the accusation is you need a flash lifestyle.
08:13Is it drug money?
08:15That's the question, isn't it?
08:16Shut up!
08:17But isn't that the question?
08:18Some overdraft that could find that.
08:20Don't be funny.
08:21Well, that's the question the jury want to know.
08:23Customs find out.
08:24Is it bling bling or is it drugs?
08:25The customs have retracted this evidence in this trial.
08:28We're going to ship it out with the Jeep over to Tobago.
08:30And for the night when customs came out,
08:32this was actually parked outside the house,
08:34because it was attached to the Jeep.
08:35Because the next day,
08:36both of them were going onto a container.
08:39And it was just like,
08:41this is the last thing I need outside the house.
08:43I've got seven customs officers,
08:44a boat parked outside.
08:46It's not looking good.
08:47It looks like you're about to jump ship
08:49with all your cash from the drug deal.
08:52The flip side of that, you could say,
08:53is that why would someone
08:55who was expecting a substantial large amount of cash
08:57be bothering to take a boat this size
09:00and a W-Rage Jeep all the way to the Caribbean
09:02when they had all that money
09:03and they could just go and buy themselves
09:04a 60-foot yacht and a Ferrari?
09:07Amber may be sticking by her man,
09:10but the prosecution case looks watertight.
09:13Andrew is a self-confessed smuggler.
09:15He was caught red-handed at the scene
09:17and phone calls link him to his co-defendants.
09:20If he is found guilty of Britain's
09:22biggest ever cocaine importation,
09:24Amber will be in her 70s by the time he is free.
09:30Andrew Pritchard is on remand awaiting trial.
09:33He is suspected of being responsible
09:35for importing 500 kilograms of cocaine.
09:38He first came to the attention of the police
09:41and the underworld in the mid-1980s.
09:44The East London boy went into business with Wayne.
09:47They were young and looking to make big money.
09:50Once we've established our locations,
09:52the first thing we'd have to do is find an easy point of entry.
09:56We'd come up to the gates, clip them off,
09:58we'd move our vans in,
10:00put the chain on and lock the gate up
10:02and then find our route of entrance.
10:03Once the door's off, in we go.
10:07Now once we're in the building,
10:08the first things we're looking for is a strong room
10:11where we can have all the communications,
10:12count the money, things like that.
10:14This would be actually a perfect strong room.
10:17It's easily secured.
10:18There may be up to 160 grand that go through this strong room here
10:22in any one given night.
10:24Everybody had to pay to get it.
10:30Genesis 89, an invitation to all Genesis veterans and members.
10:35Andrew made his reputation setting up illegal asset house parties in East London.
10:43He was 22 and had already made his first million in cash
10:48and met his future fiancee.
10:51Amber actually came to our first party
10:54and she ended up helping my sister behind the bar.
10:56We loved Amber. Amber was a mate.
10:58You know, and we looked out for Amber.
11:00You know, she was like a sister.
11:02They were out there.
11:03They were the first people to put on a do
11:06and actually tell the masses.
11:08The parties were fueled by ecstasy, MDMA.
11:12MDMA was about sharing the love, sharing the passion.
11:15Took one and you had a good time.
11:17MDMA allowed us as men to be able to look at your friend and say,
11:21you know what? I fucking love you, mate.
11:24It actually allowed us to dance in a really stupid way.
11:28For us, our party started when Genesis finished.
11:33So on a Sunday morning, we'd take like a bunch of women,
11:36could be page three girls, models, pop stars, whatever.
11:39We'd go to a fat hotel, rent out big hotel suites
11:42and just have huge sessions.
11:44We're sleeping with like six and seven women together in a room
11:48of one of your really good powers.
11:49It was mad. It was absolute madness.
11:51Bang at it, you know, fucking, you know, all the rest of it,
11:56dropping, fucking, doing all of that.
11:58We'd probably spend 60 grand or something like that
12:01each time we had one of these sessions.
12:03People had money. Everybody had money.
12:05Everybody was spending, everybody was drinking,
12:07everybody wanted a party.
12:08Andrew and the boys were making 200,000 pounds a week.
12:13Criminal firms started trying to muscle in.
12:15His partner Wayne got kidnapped three times.
12:19Not only did they want the money, they wanted our name
12:23and they wanted us to run the parties for them.
12:27I don't think Andy's the type of guy that's going to get robbed.
12:31Andrew used his East End contacts to get the top firm on side.
12:35Because we're from the East End, we know people.
12:38And you kind of went up the ladder until you ended up with,
12:41you hope, to be the top boys.
12:43People we know were big enough and bad enough
12:47to watch the back door.
12:49With London's top firm behind him,
12:51Andrew and his crew were invincible.
12:53We had three guys coming to the reception.
12:56I'm standing, taking the money, pull guns out,
12:58pointing them at our faces saying, give us the money.
13:01All the security pulled out their guns
13:03and it was like a scene from Reservoir Dogs.
13:05They've got three guns, suddenly there's six guns pointing at them.
13:08Andrew's success in staying one step ahead of the law
13:11and pulling off illegal raves made him a face to know.
13:14Once it was established that we had protection,
13:18you know, then we got the respect.
13:20Who's going to go over there and throw the network?
13:22For more information and the information on the hotlines,
13:25please stay tuned.
13:26Genesis Live and Check It!
13:29The raves were a moment in time
13:31and as they died out, Andrew turned to smuggling.
13:35His luck ran out when he was caught
13:37meeting half a tonne of cocaine
13:39with a street value of £100 million.
13:44It's the first day of his trial.
13:46His fiancée, Amber, is preparing for the biggest ordeal of her life.
13:50I've got to stop moaning for him.
13:52The jewellery have been sworn in,
13:53so we get to see what the delightful character is.
13:57Andrew saw one of the miscellated emails.
14:00Yeah, he did.
14:02He said there's quite a few West Indians
14:04and I'm like, is that a good thing?
14:06I don't know.
14:08They might go in a massive hate campaign
14:11because they see Andrew's lifestyle
14:13and then go,
14:14yeah, he's definitely guilty
14:16because I ain't got that.
14:17Do you know what I mean?
14:19Or it could go, you just can't tell.
14:21You can't.
14:22I will read them.
14:24And I will give them the not guilty eyes
14:26where I just stare at them for hours
14:28saying not guilty, not guilty.
14:31Andrew and his co-defendants
14:33have already been tried once,
14:34but it was a hung jury.
14:36Because this is a second trial,
14:39there will be a conclusion.
14:41He will either be imprisoned or freed.
14:45Andrew must cast doubt in the minds
14:48of at least two members of the jury
14:50if he is to be acquitted.
14:52If not, he faces 35 years in jail.
14:59The trial is to be held at Blackfriars,
15:01a secure Crown Court.
15:03Andrew is pleading not guilty.
15:06His defense is that he is a smuggler,
15:09but not of Class A drugs.
15:12Carl, a fellow smuggler,
15:14worked with Andrew in the late 90s.
15:17I think Andy's defense at the moment
15:19is that he's been importing cigars.
15:23I first met him in 97.
15:26And were you bringing in drugs at the same time?
15:28No, no, no, no.
15:29We were undoubtedly, as I recall,
15:32importing clogs from the Caribbean
15:34directly into Schiphol Airport.
15:37Because there's a markup in clogs done in this world.
15:39It is, yeah.
15:40Yeah.
15:41Key to Andrew's defense is wider customs corruption.
15:44He claims that his smuggling operation
15:47relied on customs officers at the port
15:49clearing containers
15:51and that they were paid a fee to do this.
15:53How it works is very simple.
15:55Customs officers are paid
15:58flagging a container so they secure it
16:01so that no one else can trouble it.
16:03It's helped by their team.
16:04Passes through an x-ray,
16:06which their men work on the x-ray,
16:08and it's released.
16:09And that's how it's done.
16:10Eddie is one of Andrew's most trusted associates.
16:14He's a well-known face in London's gold markets
16:17and has traded with Andrew over the years.
16:19He's convinced of Andrew's innocence.
16:22Somebody who is effectively a drug dealer
16:25must be absolutely stark raving mad
16:28to be so close to a consignment like this.
16:33That big.
16:34Wouldn't you effectively be tempts removed?
16:37You would, wouldn't you?
16:40Each day, the court breaks for lunch.
16:42Everyone congregates at the nearby bistro.
16:45How's Andrew feeling about this now?
16:47I saw him this morning in the dock.
16:49Yeah, and he seems to be keeping his chin up, as always.
16:51You can't fault him for that.
16:53He's always Mr. Happy-go-lucky.
16:55Well, he knows what's happened at the end of the day.
16:57You know, justice will prevail.
16:59But Amber won't leave anything to chance.
17:02She is desperate to get her fiancé home
17:04and will use all her powers.
17:06If you notice, it is a Cartier pouch.
17:09Nothing but cloths.
17:11Such a fashion queen.
17:12Even your witchcraft.
17:13Even the tools of witchcraft are in a Cartier.
17:16So what is this?
17:17I'm going to look in.
17:18No, I can't discuss it because it might break the spell.
17:20No, don't touch it.
17:21Don't touch it.
17:22So it's Dove's blood.
17:23It's Dove's blood.
17:24It's a whole spell.
17:25It's a whole procedure.
17:26When you're in a circumstance like this, you've got to do whatever you can.
17:29So what's the purpose of this?
17:30The purpose of it is that he doesn't mistrial.
17:32Nothing bad.
17:33I don't wish anything bad on anyone.
17:34This is the judge?
17:35This is the judge.
17:36Just so that he mistrials or he suddenly isn't able to speak during the trial.
17:41So one of the coconut wives is practicing white witchcraft?
17:48Yes, white witchcraft.
17:49The thing is, you all laugh now, but when this works, you'll be thinking about it.
17:56Each day, the prosecution present new evidence.
17:59And with it, Amber and Andrew's confidence ebbs and flows.
18:03It's like comments he makes under his breath.
18:06That's what it meant.
18:07Do you know what I mean?
18:08Which I'll stick to in there, you really are getting desperate.
18:10You know, and he was getting desperate because he's got no case.
18:13Andrew mulls over the day's events on his illegal mobile.
18:17But I don't know why we're all acting surprised here.
18:20Because he was not going to sit there and say,
18:21Oh, we really think these people are innocent and we should have quit this trial.
18:25You know, he's there basically to try and sentence you guys.
18:29So I have to watch him sit there and ask me questions while he's lying.
18:34Effectively lying.
18:35You're panicking, aren't you?
18:36That upset me.
18:37You understand if you antagonise.
18:39Good night.
18:40You are worrying, Andrew.
18:41You're talking to me.
18:42I can hear it in your voice.
18:43You're panicking and you're worrying.
18:44Never mind.
18:45I'll call you later.
18:48I love you.
18:49Love you too.
18:50Bye, bye, bye.
18:52Oh, bye.
18:53He's on my thanks.
18:54Oh.
18:55He's panicking.
18:56He's panicking.
18:57He's stressing.
18:59The judge is laid into him.
19:01The judge is going to lay into him.
19:02The judge is there to do that.
19:07He's basically wants the sentence.
19:09He's on a retrial.
19:10A lot of money has been sent.
19:11Are they have to get convictions here?
19:14convictions here since Andrew's arrest Amber has had to give up her career in
19:34PR it's a full-time job supporting him she goes to court every day and travels
19:40across London to visit him in Wandsworth prison she's been on a hundred and sixty visits so far
19:54it's a long way from where she imagined she would be as she approached her 36th birthday
20:02her and Andrew had planned to get married in August 2005 and were desperate to start a family
20:10the prosecution have a strong case and their future is uncertain
20:20I wake up some nights and I have panic attacks anxiety attacks where I have these dreams of
20:31Andrew because Andrew is allowed to wear normal clothes at the moment and I had this dream that
20:37he was um changing his clothes and he has hands and he had this blue sort of boy suit and the
20:43prison guard went welcome to your new home Pritchard and I woke up and I couldn't breathe
20:48and I was like and I was on my own and that really stressed me out
20:57but yeah there isn't a day there's not a day because there isn't a minute of the day where
21:00I was going to be breathing shit the situation the trial is about to take an unexpected turn
21:22amber discovers that something very unusual has happened inside the prison
21:27basically what's happened what has transpired so far is that a file um was placed under one of
21:35Andrew's co-defendants cell door and it's a file with incriminating evidence against customs
21:42um nobody knows where the file came from I don't really know too much I'm only going about how what
21:47information Andrew feeds to me but he's seen quite excited and he seems quite positive and he's on good form
21:54the documents are top secret customs intelligence files about operation cyprus somehow they've been
22:02taken out of customs HQ into prison and under the cell doors of Andrew and his co-defendants
22:08are you an architect in the distribution of the documents you're a sensible man I've been in
22:14prison for 17 months how could I in any way whatsoever be responsible for something like that
22:20did you have anything to involve involvement in this documents appeared in prison and up to this day
22:27we don't know how they got there envelopes were coming underneath people's doors so obviously it's a
22:32prison officer who was obviously getting paid by whoever to bring these documents in and how they
22:39would get out of customs house obviously is another interesting like you know theory but no no nothing
22:46whatsoever that would be perverted in the course of justice uh donald and you would have nothing
22:51i'll never break a ball like that these documents are far too sensitive to be ever shown to a jury but
22:58their existence will become public by other means clouding the waters for the jury they find their
23:04way onto the internet and for maximum exposure a pirate radio station broadcasts the website address
23:10message reads special request for anyone who's had problems with custom and excise look at his website
23:19justiceandcrime.tk
23:22the files are now available for anyone including the jury to access but they need to be made aware of
23:28the website this happens a few days later when there is an unprecedented outburst in the court
23:34one of them andrews co-defendants was given evidence and he basically got up in the stand and started
23:39shouting um i've been persecuted you don't know the truth um you don't know what's going on and he
23:47basically announced a website the co-defendant suggests to the jury that the website names corrupt
24:02customs officers obviously the jury heard it everyone in the court heard it so the judge said to the
24:08jury if you look at this website and you'll be in content of court the judge immediately calls a break
24:14so that he can see the site and decide whether there is evidence of corruption as andrews co-defendant
24:19claims loads of people have tapped into the web page basically the web page consisted of highly
24:27sensitive restricted documents from customs and excise with observation locks information regarding this
24:33trial it's quite clear that customs are heavily involved in this their hands are in this
24:39the judge has looked at the leaked documents and finds no evidence of corruption by customs he
24:46instructs the jury to ignore it there may be no evidence but the possibility of corruption has now
24:52been suggested to the jury they can't have the crown looking dodgy so they're doing everything in their
25:00power to stop that being revealed which is the frustrating thing
25:07and i just really miss andrew i really really miss him it's time for him to come home now i've had enough
25:17frustrated by the apparent injustice of andrew's defense that customs officers were paid off to
25:23let contraband through amber verbally attacks the lead prosecutor
25:27i don't think i'm going to be allowed back in court i think i just done the whole council chick
25:34girlfriend thing no you know what it is it's really frustrating and i've sat there and i've
25:39listened to it time and time again and i keep my mouth shut and i don't say anything and it's fine
25:44but he's just done the summing up basically the prosecution what the crowd suggests is what happens
25:49and i'm not going to sit there and listen to it anymore it's a pack of lies and it's like they're
25:53going through all this shit about the boys did this boys and they miss out the whole fact that
25:59fucking customs and exos took money and fucking had meters to get this fucking cocaine in and it's like
26:05you're gonna let three fucking people that have nothing to do with this go down because the system
26:10is fucking covering them up and it's not right and all those people have got to live with this
26:14shit and my fucking fiancee fucking goes down i'm gonna haunt those for the rest of their life
26:20and i swear as the god almighty hears me i will come back and those people up as much as i can
26:28in spirit not anything else it'll be purely in spirit i'm just really upset
26:35the first few weeks of this trial have seen top secret customs documents end up in prison cells
26:41the courtroom drama is now shrouded in talk of corruption reasonable doubt is creeping in
26:50andrew pritchard is about to take the stand accused of being one of britain's biggest ever drug smugglers
27:03it's a crucial day for andrew he will get to give his version of events but will also face rigorous
27:08cross-examination his fiancee amber won't be in court andrew fears that she won't be able to contain
27:17herself from another outburst if the questioning gets tough hi baby it's only me hi honey you all
27:26how are you what's the matter no it's a really heavy dark cold today um i think i shot myself in the
27:35foot you know what i mean what i'm saying is i ain't that confident anymore that i'm coming over
27:39right oh baby please don't say that to me well i i everyone else is saying he's confident and i hope so
27:46but oh andrew you have to keep the faith please there's no point otherwise of course i'm gonna keep the faith
27:52by andrew is concerned that he didn't get through to the jury he is facing 35 years if convicted
28:01didn't put anyone in the show either i made it that could have been horrible to people and i wasn't
28:06do you know i mean because at the end of the day you know all their documents coming out there's one
28:11issue i'm sure other things will will will will will yeah well andrew we're running out of time we've
28:16got a wig left well don't get upset baby it's gonna be all right don't worry about it it's gonna
28:22be all right don't cry it's not as bad as it's gonna work out all right that's gonna be fine everyone
28:28said i've gone right everyone said exactly well why don't you start the conversation on the phone
28:33with that instead of starting the conversation on the phone with oh i think i'm going to go down
28:37babe i'll call you later and i love you i love you too baby bye bye
28:47the whole thing is up there's so many needs that are needed and that are not being
28:56had but there's nothing i can do it's a up situation how do you deal with it you try and
29:00deal and cope with it to the best of your ability i'm in a relationship with my partner but i don't
29:04have any actual touchy you know i don't have a relationship so yeah it's up it's like yeah
29:11well i'm engaged to this man who i haven't been with for 17 months i talk to him every day i feel
29:17every bit of pain that he feels but i'm missing that whole emotional side his way of trying to deal
29:23with it was like you have a choice if you can't handle this i'd rather you go it was my choice and i
29:29chose to to to follow this path you take the sours with the sweets as they say the sound of kiss 94
29:38fm euradical radio with yours truly jazzy b pumping the beats across london town and here's another
29:44smoking jammy you want it over but you don't you want it over a right result obviously
29:58but you don't want it over if it's 35 years you know because they can send them to wherever
30:03it's out of my power i can't do it any more than keep praying and do my little rituals and stuff
30:19but that's it that's all i can do
30:34it's part of me that i think it's going to be okay i really do but it's not really isn't it
30:51i had the best visit ever the longest visit we had what time is it had about an hour and a half
30:57um i'm excited i think he's coming home i know he's coming home so we just basically had an hour
31:04and a half of talking about what we're going to do and he was pretty children it was nice it felt
31:07like he was coming home so i need to go home and tidy up there because it's like a shithole
31:17the judge will shortly ask the jury to retire to consider the verdict it is for them to decide if
31:23andrew pritchard is a major drug dealer or a white boy cigar smuggler i do think your energies if you
31:30put your energies into something positive then positivity will come back
31:33even though you're doing the whole positivity thing you can't in the back you had you can't help
31:44thinking what if the worst scenario happens and you know you're left here with a fridge full of food
31:50some balloons i'll be like 20 years later mrs havisham coming home for the first time amber lets her guard
32:00down and allows herself to believe in the fairy tale ending
32:03all together positive vibes for pritchard to come home
32:14so cheers my darling love you very much the release of andrew
32:17andrew's going to be thinking about three things which is going to be food that will be his first
32:23thing having a bath will be his second thing and bed and sex will be his third thing not sex making a
32:30ahhh i can't wait sorry i just gotta wait for real excitement then could be getting late this week
32:40you don't know what that feels like
32:44you just don't know you just have no idea how happy that makes me feel
33:00i'm thinking what andrew would really really appreciate i was thinking steak vernet sauce a bit
33:07of asparagus marge to it sweet corn seafood and he likes um prawns as well constantly that's coleslaw
33:14and ham and loves trifle do you think we can risk the six george six is thursday isn't it love cheese
33:22that organic juice is lovely i had some of this candles i'll get him the green one
33:34is that a bit gay though i bought you loads of food so you have to promise to come home
33:38it's cold you know i've been up all day and it doesn't come out what the fuck am i gonna do
33:54i just hit it just hit me again it's like fuck you'll be fine you'll be fine that's what i love
34:03about you it'll all be fine in thee o lord do andrew puts his trust never let andrew be put to
34:08confusion deliver andrew in thy righteousness and cause andrew to escape incline thy ear unto him and
34:14save him be thou his strong habitation where he may continually resort thou hast given commandment to
34:19save him for thou art his rock and his fortress deliver andrew oh my god out of the hand of the
34:24wicked and out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man for thou art his hope o lord thou art his
34:30trust from his youth by thee has he been holdened up from the womb the auntie that took him out of
34:34his mother's bowels his praise shall be continually of thee he is as a wonder until many but thou art
34:39his strong refuge let his mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day cast andrew
34:44not off in the time of old age forsake him not when his strength faileth and his enemies speak against
34:49him and they lay wait for his soul take counsel together
34:52if andrew gets off if there's no such word as if
35:02if he gets off is that a victory for for your spirits and for your spells and for your rituals
35:07or is it victory of the evidence
35:13i think it'll be a little bit of both because i think the spirits are working with us for the evidence
35:17we've had articles in newspapers we've had three different court cases going so i do think the
35:21spirits are working for andrew and if he doesn't come home then i have to just accept that and decide
35:26that they obviously have other things for him
35:35as the judge begins his summing up amber can't face leaving the house
35:40best friend george is at the court and will keep her updated
35:43today the jewish has gone out and um the judge done his final summing up
35:49and um wasn't very good actually he didn't seem to know what he was talking about he got confused
35:56quite a few times and seemed to lose track of what he was saying i don't think he would read his own
36:00notes actually but um and we'll say differently she'll say his spells have worked my spell for the judge
36:07was some so that he mumbled on his speech and he was mumbling today they couldn't hear
36:13him when he's closing his speech calm down i know i can feel myself going into semi-panic mode so the
36:21jury are out okay i'm not going into court i'm scared why because they're trying to put my man down and
36:29i don't want to be there you don't i'll be there for you darling there is no real evidence here in this
36:35case that says that these people are going to be hung because admittedly so yes something went on
36:43something untoward went on but what was it was it cigars or was it cocaine i think personally there
36:51certainly is reasonable doubt and um and i think that's a sort of general feeling and that's building
36:55and building i think you know the case will definitely be resolved this week and um it's my
37:01view now i i think they're coming home i wouldn't be able to make my mind up and i'm sure there's people
37:05and then that could make the mind up so you might get some yeses and some no's so you just don't know
37:09just two hours after the jury retire they come back possibly with a verdict i'm not actually going to
37:17go in i'm going to sit outside and wait for the two hours man the jury's back it could be a question
37:27oh the jury have listened to seven weeks of evidence and heard two very different versions
37:35of events now it comes down to whether they believe her majesty's customs and excise
37:41or east end boy andrew pritchard
37:46it was a false alarm the jury just had a legal question i don't think we're effectively going to be
37:53getting a result today but at least they're trying to untangle this web of intrigue and deceit that's
38:01going on the jury have now been out for three days it's friday and um it'd be nice to have a verdict
38:09today because i think for everyone not just me to go through another two days at you know the weekend
38:16it would just be a killer for everyone
38:26oh i hate this it's a really weird situation because it's like you want to go and you need to know
38:33but you know that the crowd and everyone they're there to basically condemn
38:38someone that you love so it's almost like why do you want to put yourself through it
38:41yeah i have done everything i possibly can you know there's nobody that could say god that girl
38:47didn't do everything in a possible power to get andrew home
38:54i don't think i have anything more to give to this situation to be honest
39:02i'm exhausted i'm physically pinned to be exhausted
39:11i've been through all that to be told to come back on monday the jury have had enough
39:25and they can't give um any verdicts on monday the jury have had a enough what do you think we've had
39:31done
39:45Anyone else?
39:4652.
39:47Take care.
39:48Come on.
39:4952.
40:15Okay.
40:16Got 18 months.
40:17We've got 18 months.
40:20We've got 18 months.
40:23How did we get to this?
40:24A cold.
40:25I'm getting upset.
40:26Sorry.
40:27I know, I just got upset.
40:29It's cold.
40:30It's fine, everything.
40:32It's good.
40:34It's fine.
40:35It's good.
40:38Please, God.
40:40Please God. I know you promised me once. I know. I know you promised darling. Okay.
40:54I love you too, Andrew. Please say your prayers tonight, okay? Okay. God bless Andrew. I
41:03love you. Bye, babe. Bye, babe. Bye, babe. Oh, I hate when I cry. I cry all the time on the phone, too, and it's not good. I'm always crying. Do you know what it is? I just don't really want to set myself up for disappointment. Do you know what I mean? And I know he's being positive. And I know he keeps the faith and he promises me all the time. What if it does go wrong?
41:27Well, if it does, we'll go horribly wrong. Do you believe his defense or are you required to believe his defense because you're his girlfriend? I'm not stupid. And I do believe his defense. I know, I know, Andrew. I know whether if he would have been involved in the importation of 572 kilos of cocaine.
41:53Was there any part of you that said, oh, my God, I wonder, is Andrew actually guilty of this? Yeah. Yeah. Of course there was. Do you really care? You just want your man back? I think, no, I don't care. I just want to get my man home. That's what it's about for me. And I just want to get on with my life, really.
42:23It's seven weeks since the start of the trial. The jury have been out deciding Andrew's fate for four days.
42:36There are rumors that Andrew has an escape plan in place if he is found guilty. The police seem to be taking the risk seriously and officers are stationed outside the courtroom.
42:47There are rumors that Andrew doesn't have to be taken by him.
43:17Oh, my God.
43:47Oh, my God.
43:49Not guilty.
43:53Fantastic.
43:57I was bringing the spirits today.
44:17We don't really know what happened.
44:22Was it cigars?
44:24Was it clogs or cocaine?
44:27Who knows?
44:29No problem.
44:31He's a character, isn't he?
44:32He's a rascal.
44:33A lovable rogue.
44:35And I think, you know, people like a lovable rogue a little bit.
44:39Just to let you know, I've got you on a regime at home.
44:43I don't want to be on a regime, believe me.
44:45I'm only joking.
44:46At six o'clock, you'll be taking a bath.
44:49Believe me.
44:50For once you have a prison prison, keep you in a regime.
44:52There's no way a human being is slated to the airport.
44:54I'm not everyone.
45:09The threat of a 35-year jail sentence has been lifted.
45:28The jury could not come to a unanimous verdict,
45:31and so the judge found Andrew not guilty and released him.
45:34All his personal effects are returned.
45:41Operation Cypress, the largest ever seizure of cocaine in the UK,
45:45has cost millions of pounds, and no one has been convicted.
45:50It's a Colombian emerald.
45:52It's a Colombian emerald.
45:53We're going to get married.
45:54We'd like to see your nanny.
45:55Have a couple of kids.
45:56Oh, we're trying for a baby now, actually.
45:58Yeah.
45:59We're having our first scan next week.
46:01We're funny.
46:02Glad you're pregnant.
46:04Caribbean, we're getting married.
46:08I think we should, yeah, whatever.
46:09We'll talk about it.
46:09We're just one step at a time.
46:10One step at a time, yeah.
46:12That's the main thing, yeah.
46:13We'll at least keep him around.
46:14Let's do another sentence.
46:24Andrew believes that customs now have him in their sights
46:27and that he will be a prime suspect in future smuggling cases.
46:31A lot of very, very, very, very angry people in the establishment now
46:36for seeing me be free again.
46:39I'm not kidding myself.
46:40You know that.
46:41And they're going to try to say I've manipulated the system
46:44to win this case, which isn't true.
46:48I've fought for my life here.
46:50So are you a big cocaine smuggler?
46:53No.
46:55Did you really know it was cocaine or did you just,
46:57it was a good excuse to save cigars?
47:00It was cigars.
47:01Are you a lucky, innocent man
47:03or are you an amazingly lucky, guilty man?
47:08I'm an innocent man.
47:10Can you resist a good deal?
47:11The white boy gene, the Dell boy gene,
47:13you've got to curb that.
47:14Never in a million years, the answer to that.
47:17Of course I'm up for a deal, you know,
47:19but choosing more collectively next time, I think.
