With a new survey suggesting 39% of women struggle to find clothing that caters to them as they get older, Celebrity Stylist Lynne McKenna was keen to help Leeds locals feel less 'invisible' at a recent event.
Transcript
00:00My name's Lynn McKenna and I'm a celebrity stylist with a background in fashion magazines.
00:06So I started out styling photo shoots and celebrity covers,
00:10which then led into styling celebrities for their personal events and parties.
00:15I also have a pattern column in the metro, which is really fun
00:19because I just get to talk about all the things I love in fashion.
00:22So whether it's colour or print or a trend that everyone should be wearing,
00:25I basically get to play with clothes for a living, which is lovely.
00:29With a new study finding some women feel invisible in both work and social situations
00:34when they reach the age of 36,
00:36and with 39% of survey respondents struggling to find clothing that caters to them as they get older,
00:42celebrity stylist Lynn McKenna ventured to CLAS in St John's Shopping Centre
00:46to help Leeds locals fall in love with fashion again.
00:50CLAS are really pro-women feeling amazing about the way they look and how they feel
00:54and through what they wear.
00:56So they've spent a lot of time researching how women are feeling
01:00and they took a poll of 2,000 women and 44% felt unseen,
01:04which is ridiculous because we're all amazing, we should all feel amazing,
01:09we should all be seen and I think fashion is a really, really lovely, easy way to do that.
01:16But I think what it is, it's finding your confidence through fashion again.
01:19I've worked in the industry for, I'm going to say, 25 years now
01:22and through my career I've met so many amazing women,
01:26but I've met so many amazing women who have lost their way with what they wear
01:30and how they style themselves, whether life's got busy, they've got children,
01:35you know, their careers have taken off
01:37and they just don't have the capacity to think about what I'm going to wear every day,
01:40so they wear the same, you know, five outfits on repeat
01:44because they're their go-to or body shapes have changed
01:47and it's really overwhelming and it's also another part of your life
01:50and you know, I just don't want to have to think about it.
01:52So what I love about my job is I get to come in, I get to think about it for them
01:56and then hopefully help them find their way with fashion again
02:00and fall in love with the clothes they own
02:02and the clothes that we're going to introduce to then build their wardrobe again
02:06and make them excited about getting dressed every day.
02:08So you go through loads of different feelings and emotions about how you feel about yourself
02:12and fashion should be the thing that is a constant
02:16and it's the thing that helps you build a little bit of identity.
02:22So how stylish are you and how stylish is Leeds?
02:26Lynne shared her reflections of the city.
02:29I love Leeds. I have been walking around
02:31and I can't believe how many amazing shops you have.
02:34It's the most wonderful shopping destination.
02:36You have everything you could possibly need
02:38and also what I've noticed about today
02:40everyone is so friendly.
02:42I don't think I've walked into a shopping centre in my life
02:45where everyone's come up and just chatted
02:46and I've discussed where they're going on holiday
02:49what they like, what they don't like
02:51we've done some trying on sessions
02:53everyone's just so happy and friendly
02:55and it's been really lovely
02:56today's been a lovely breath of fresh air.
