Transcript
00:00Good afternoon, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sausage Newspaper. It's lovely
00:07to speak to Lucy Kruger in Berlin, in Berlin for the moment, from Johannesburg first and
00:12then Cape Town and now Berlin. But before long, Lucy, you'll be making your first ever
00:17full UK tour. Now, why? Why is it important to conquer the UK?
00:24I wouldn't put it like that. It's a very interesting question.
00:26No, I suppose I grew up listening to quite a lot of music from the UK and I do think
00:34that a lot of, yeah, there's just been a lot of interesting things formed there and made
00:40there and I also just am quite happy to go to most places, to be honest, to travel with
00:47music and we haven't yet done the UK and so that feels exciting.
00:50The key thing, the important thing is to find connection with an audience, isn't it? That's
00:54what you're hoping for.
00:55Yeah, yeah, definitely.
00:58And tell me a bit about the band. It's a band that's been going for a while in different
01:02forms.
01:04Yeah, since 2015, which when I say it like that is a bit terrifying because that's 10
01:09years, which is a long time. But it's changed quite a lot. I guess I started off as a solo
01:18project and then I realised very quickly that it's very hard to make very interesting or
01:22meaningful music by yourself. Yeah. And so I drew other players in and I kind of wanted
01:29to make it known to them and to the audience that they were very much a part of that world
01:35that I was trying to make with them. But yeah, because of sound and feeling and theme and logistics
01:43and geography, that has changed throughout the years.
01:46Because of the band, for instance.
01:48Yeah, exactly. Yeah. And I guess there's something very, very lovely in kind of having a very secure
01:56and stable band that you're working with and developing, but that also leaves a bit of room
02:01for change when change is necessary for whatever reasons, which just...
02:06What's happening with the band at the moment, recording-wise?
02:11Well, we are busy writing new material. We rewrote and recorded quite a bit last year.
02:22And yeah, I guess I put out quite a lot. So I'm just, I am sort of constantly working on new
02:30things. So yeah, we're writing at the moment and, and, and touring.
02:37Well, lovely to meet you. Good to speak to you. And good luck.
02:40Nice to meet you too.
02:43Thank you very much.
