00:00Good morning and welcome along to the first bank holiday weekend of the month.
00:05You know what? The weather's going to be okay for this bank holiday weekend too.
00:09A lot of dry weather, many places seeing some sunshine, just quite a bit colder than it has been.
00:15And it is starting a little grey over southern Scotland, northern Ireland, some drizzly rain here,
00:19but that should scoot away to the south. There's a few showers coming in across northern Scotland.
00:23The far south of England, there's the threat of these showers in the Channel just drifting north at times.
00:29So the possibility of a shower or two here, certainly over the Channel Islands, but the vast majority, I think, will stay dry.
00:35We'll see the cloud increasing over the Midlands and Wales, but then some sunnier skies following to Northern Ireland and southern Scotland.
00:42The showers in the far north, well, they should tend to fade away through the day.
00:46But look at where the wind is coming from and that'll tell you why things are cooling off.
00:52Still reasonably warm in the south, but even here, quite a bit cooler than it has been over recent days.
00:58But we might even squeak up to 23 degrees Celsius. Further north, we're looking at temperatures in the mid-teens.
01:03So safe through the central belt of Scotland, 15, 16 as it could be in Glasgow.
01:07That's still above average for the time of year, but it will feel pretty fresh in northern Scotland
01:12and along some of these North Sea coasts with that brisk wind bringing the chill from the north.
01:18That'll continue to push away any showers from the south coast during the evening.
01:22In fact, most places having a dry night.
01:24Still some more showers coming in over the Northern Isles and the northeast of mainland Scotland.
01:29And it's pretty cold with that wind, especially over the mountaintop.
01:33So be aware of that heading out into the hills across Scotland through this weekend.
01:38Elsewhere, though, most places having a dry night.
01:40Again, some lengthy clear spells.
01:42With the colder air in place, a noticeable chillier start to Sunday across the south compared to this morning.
01:49Temperatures could be well down into single figures.
01:51And pockets of frost possible across northern Britain.
01:54So gardeners, take note of that.
01:56You don't want to be planting any delicate plants this weekend.
01:59Still the potential for frost as things turn colder through the weekend.
02:03Then Sunday's weather is quite cloudy in the east.
02:06Cloud bubbling up pretty quickly here.
02:07There will be a few showers across eastern England, eastern Scotland.
02:10But they should be fairly light and they should be tending to move through.
02:13Again, a lot of dry weather.
02:14Certainly in the west, quite a bit of sunny weather, I suspect, on Sunday as well.
02:19The wind will make a big difference.
02:21So a real chill on these North Sea coasts again, where we may struggle to get out of single figures.
02:26But for the west, temperatures in the mid-teens might even squeak a little bit higher in places.
02:31So these kind of values are still around or even a touch above average for the time of year.
02:36But because it's been so warm, you will notice that drop off.
02:40And it will feel fresh again in eastern areas on Monday, particularly eastern England.
02:45The winds may ease off completely across Scotland.
02:48And so here with sunshine and Northern Ireland, a pretty good looking day for the bank holiday.
02:53A bit more cloud for England and Wales on Monday.
02:55Small chance of some early showers.
02:57But again, a lot of dry weather, a lot of fine weather to be had.
03:00Again, a chill on those North Sea coasts with the wind coming in from the sea.
03:03But elsewhere, temperatures getting into the mid-teens, a little bit higher in parts of Scotland.
03:08So again, around or maybe a touch above average, but below average on those easternmost coasts.
03:15And quite a big shock to the system just because we're seeing a drop in temperatures.
03:18This map is showing the change in temperatures on Monday when compared to Friday.
03:22You can see a big drop, particularly across the southeast.
03:26So yes, it is turning cooler, but still a lot of fine weather to be enjoyed this bank holiday weekend.
