03 May - National weather forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest Met Office forecast.
00:04High pressure still dominating our weather pattern at the moment.
00:08However, a change in wind direction is bringing lower temperatures and Arctic air mass pushing southwards across the UK over the next 24 hours.
00:17Also introducing colder air from the north, but it will be largely dry and sunny for the vast majority of us.
00:23Through the rest of this afternoon, we do have a cold front pushing southwards across England and Wales,
00:28introducing thicker cloud, perhaps one or two light spots of rain.
00:32To the south of this, holding on to the warm air for just one more day, temperatures around 22 or 23 Celsius.
00:37But further north, the colder air is starting to set in, so temperatures starting to fall into single figures across northern Scotland.
00:45Still 15 or 16 Celsius across Northern Ireland, Northern England, central and northern parts of England around 17 or 18 Celsius before falling away later.
00:53And it's that northerly breeze which will just take the edge off the temperatures.
00:57For most, it will be dry, but there will be some showers across northeast Scotland.
01:01And then as we go through this evening and overnight, those showers start to become more frequent across northeast Scotland and also filter down the North Sea.
01:09So coastal stretches, seeing showers through the night elsewhere, generally dry with clear spells.
01:15And it will be a chillier night than of late too.
01:18Temperatures falling into single figures for all of us.
01:20And a touch of frost possible through the glens of Scotland, perhaps Northern Ireland in the countryside as well.
01:26So it will be a chilly start to the day for many of us, but a bright start.
01:30There will be sunny spells.
01:31However, that keen northerly breeze feeding showers down into eastern parts of England and Scotland.
01:36Some of these moving further inland as the day goes on.
01:39There will be some bright or sunny spells, especially the sunshine becoming more limited to western parts.
01:45Even here, the odd shower is possible.
01:47But I think for the vast majority, most of us will be dry, though feeling cooler with that northerly breeze and generally more cloud around as well.
01:55Temperatures across some northern and eastern facing coasts struggling around 9 or 10 Celsius.
02:00The warmth around 17 Celsius across the southwest, so lower than it has been of late and a little nearer to average.
02:08But for most, it will feel much chillier compared to what we've been used to over the past week or so.
02:14Into the evening time, still some showers across eastern parts feeding inland.
02:18Most places dry, turning quite chilly as well as the skies begin to clear and overnight.
02:24And a quick look at bank holiday Monday.
02:26The northerly air stream is still in place.
02:29It will be largely dry thanks to that high pressure, some sunny spells, some showers still possible across the east and southeast of the UK.
02:36And temperatures on the cool side in the breeze, but on the face of it, near average for the time of year.
